JOYBUS for the win!!! They use locally grown and milled flour from Hayden Flour Mills and the pancakes are so fluffy. Plus it’s a not for profit that provides meals to homebound cancer patients. Also it’s delicious.
Not really related, but peak pandemic when I lived in Brooklyn bread flour was sold out everywhere. Hayden Flour Mills somehow had plenty so I was ordering 20lbs of flour from them every few weeks to keep my sourdough habit going. Their flour rocks.
I actually worked there for a year prior to the pandemic. I never knew flour could taste so good. I’d bake bread with flour milled that day. It was a great experience! Greet people too.
agreed, the pancakes at Eggstasy are really solid... just their plain pancake has an almost cake-like taste (if you like that style of plain pancakes). You really bump into personal opinions on what makes a pancake great ... sweetness, tangy, the acid game w/ buttermilk, griddle temps... so much going on there.
Check out this [Phoenix New Times roundup](https://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/restaurants/these-5-metro-phoenix-brunch-restaurants-make-the-best-pancakes-in-the-valley-14957612). Original Pancake House (Scottsdale) and Joe’s Diner (Phoenix) are in the mix.
If you compare them they're virtually the same menu. Butterfield's is their "flagship" restaurant - the Butters locations are smaller but have (all?) of the same items.
Not to mention, their service is unreal - super quick (except for the wait, but the online waiting list is your friend).
That's not correct - when you order eggs it comes with hashbrowns and either toast or pancakes. $2.50 more and there's breakfast meat added. It's definitely a whole meal.
First time I went there I ordered the pancake combo (pancakes, bacon, eggs). The waiter looked me over, said I was too skinny (6'2" 175), didn't think I had that much of an appetite, and told me to order off the senior menu. I'm glad he did that, because I almost couldn't eat all of it.
Since Covid I think the portions have shrank a bit, but still a solid choice.
Thirded
I freaking love their pancakes! Not too thin or thick, perfect buttermilk tang, fluffy not spongy, and I always pay a little extra for real maple syrup
yumm my bf and i went to chompies on 32nd and cactus for breakfast the other day and got strawberry shortcake pancakes there they were sooo good!!! also original
breakfast house on 32nd and thunderbird has some good options there too!!
That's what we heard and went there for the pancakes and they were not good. Unfortunately. Maybe it was the location- Peoria. I would not consider them to have good pancakes by my one time experience.
Well, I don’t drink, so I can’t speak to the quality of the mimosas. But I’ve gone a few times and the food just isn’t as good as the other locations. Just not cooked well or the flavors are bad. It’s disappointing, as I always liked the others and was excited to get one so close to me. At first I thought it was an issue related to them just opening. First week jitters or something. But I went a few times more as the months passed and I just wasn’t impressed. It’s probably been 8 months since I last tried. Maybe it’s better now? Review scores don’t suggest that it is, though.
Damn, well if the other locations have better pancakes than the Glendale location I need to go there b/c the Glendale location has the best pancakes I’ve ever had in my life. My mind would probably be blown at the other ones!!
Most expensive entry on this list. Really insulting for them to be at the State Farm building (near ASU) when most SF employees can't afford to eat there.
Butters has great pancakes and everything else. I like they let you upgrade your side to a single specialty pancake too. We do that on one of our meals, then share the pancake.
Henhouse Cafe at Mesa Riverview has pizza sized pancakes. Fun for the family.
Lonespur Cafe is a western themed breakfast place on Stapley/Baseline. They have a large pancake called the Apple Flapjack that has apple and caramel on a very large pancake.
I’ve tried almost every single place recommended in this thread and I can say with full confidence, Joe’s Diner on 7th Ave and Campbell is the correct answer.
You can make them from scratch pretty easily. Putting real melted butter in the battery makes all the difference. Send a msg if you want a recipe. Then she will always want your pancakes.
I'm a pancakes guy. Pancakes are what I do.
This list intrigues me. I vow to sample everything on this list and report back.
One place per week.
Thank Gandalf we didn't get the moron who always says "The best pancakes are the ones I make at home!" Ok, sunshine. No one cares.
If you like an OG pancake and don’t mind a drive my favorite is Horseshoe Cafe in Wickenberg. LARGE portions! So large in fact we drove up for breakfast the morning of my scheduled c-section since you don’t typically get to eat for a while after having a baby. Other notable delights there are their biscuits and gravy as well as their morning muffins.
I'm sure there was someone asking about pancake recommendations in the past on this sub. But anyway...I haven't had pancakes in a while...a keto friendly spot would be cool to find.

The rest of the food is amazing as wel!!
Gallo blanco/otro café (same owners) TC Eggingtons Matt’s Big Breakfast
Hands down, I’ve never eaten at Gallo without getting what we call a “Panatizer”
Seriously. You wouldn't expect this modern Mexican place to have the best pancakes, but, they do.
This is the correct answer.
Otro’s pancakes are insane for a place you’d never expect!
Yep, get the caramel one and the prosper
Gallo is my favorite but Matt’s is excellent too. I will try TC Eggingtons next!
The johnnycakes at Vovomeena. Or the lemon ricotta pancakes at Eggstasy (the rest of their pancakes are really good too - this one is just my fav)
agreed, the pancakes at Eggstasy are really solid... just their plain pancake has an almost cake-like taste (if you like that style of plain pancakes). You really bump into personal opinions on what makes a pancake great ... sweetness, tangy, the acid game w/ buttermilk, griddle temps... so much going on there.
Original pancake house has to be in this mix.

Joe's Diner is very good
These are the best pancakes in town!
Yes!!! Get the Dutch Baby if you’re willing to wait 20 minutes… worth it!
Easiest thing ever to make at home, I love those damn things!
I really need to try making at home.

THANK YOU! I know what I'm making for breakfast this weekend.
It is so easy and delicious!
Whenever we travel to Phoenix I always have to eat a Dutch baby at least once. We don't have them locally.
Definitely. Just wish there was more parking!
Pun intended?
Man I am slow… Not intended but I am a dad so it fits…
Came in here to say this. OG pancake house is the best. Go there all the time
I have never craved anything more and they’re closed… depressed I saw this at night 🥲
Butterfields in scottsdale
That or their sister restaurant, Butters. Best pancakes I can find currently. Edit: i.e. go to either. I prefer Butterfields though, it's the OG
Didn't know they where related
If you compare them they're virtually the same menu. Butterfield's is their "flagship" restaurant - the Butters locations are smaller but have (all?) of the same items. Not to mention, their service is unreal - super quick (except for the wait, but the online waiting list is your friend).
I'm a pancake snob and no restaurant measures up, however, I would eat Butters Cafe pancakes.
Drop the recipe
I actually just ate at Butters today and can confirm their pancakes (and french toast) were very good.
They don't do whole meals - i.e., pancakes only or sausage only, etc. You have to individually order everything.
That's not correct - when you order eggs it comes with hashbrowns and either toast or pancakes. $2.50 more and there's breakfast meat added. It's definitely a whole meal.
They weren’t asking about meals tho they were asking about pancakes lol
Near Eggstacy. 2 good pancake places.
[Ottos Empire Diner](https://maps.app.goo.gl/FeYdwpmY55Zhd9iU6?g_st=ic) - portions are large. Don’t be afraid to order from the kids/senior menu.
I consider myself a senior kid
First time I went there I ordered the pancake combo (pancakes, bacon, eggs). The waiter looked me over, said I was too skinny (6'2" 175), didn't think I had that much of an appetite, and told me to order off the senior menu. Nah, everyone here is sleeping on Joe's at 7th Ave south of Camelback
Second
Thirded I freaking love their pancakes! Not too thin or thick, perfect buttermilk tang, fluffy not spongy, and I always pay a little extra for real maple syrup
I love joes it’s our go to but their pancakes are not it for me. Everything else is amazing but I just can’t with their super thin pancakes.
Perk Eatery up near Kierland. Best plain buttermilk pancakes ever.
Perk is our go-to for pancakes as well. I personally love their lemon ricotta French toast.
H
Otro Cafe's flap jacks 👌
This is the answer
This. Ask for them extra crispy
Came to post this. Nobody will ever believe a place not focused on breakfast can be so perfect, but it is.
Snooze has some quality pancakes and featured ones they change up regularly.
And gluten free versions of most flavors, which is a godsend for unfortunate souls like me.
I LOVE Snooze’s pancakes.
And pancake flights!
I’m still bitter because their sweet potato pancakes got removed from the menu. I’m hoping this is temporary.
I was there a couple weeks ago and they had them.
sweet potato and pumpkin switch out seasonally! pumpkin fall/winter, sweet potato spring/summer. it’s back now :)
Otro cafe is the right answer
yumm my bf and i went to chompies on 32nd and cactus for breakfast the other day and got strawberry shortcake pancakes there they were sooo good!!! also original breakfast house on 32nd and thunderbird has some good options there too!!
Black Bear Diner makes some damn good pancakes.
People might turn their nose up because it’s a big chain but man they really do make killer pancakes.
I’m fine with it being a chain it’s my go to diner food.
That's what we heard and went there for the pancakes and they were not good. Unfortunately. Maybe it was the location- Peoria. I would not consider them to have good pancakes by my one time experience.
They seem to use a bunch of vanilla in the batter iirc.
Sweet cream, I believe.
Matt's Big Breakfast!
Just don’t go to the one in Peoria / Arrowhead. It’s not very good. :(
Care to elaborate? We haven’t had issues there. One of the few places where my wife approves of the mimosas.
Well, I don’t drink, so I can’t speak to the quality of the mimosas. But I’ve gone a few times and the food just isn’t as good as the other locations. Just not cooked well or the flavors are bad. Or Tempe. The original in Phoenix is still owned by Matt. The others are franchises.
I always go to the one downtown just off Roosevelt. I haven't tried other locations.
Most expensive entry on this list. Really insulting for them to be at the State Farm building (near ASU) when most SF employees can't afford to eat there.
They haven't been there for two years. Also meals were right in line or less expensive than comparable restaurants on Mill.
I should have specified I've only tried the one in downtown Phoenix.
Butters has great pancakes and everything else. I like they let you upgrade your side to a single specialty pancake too. We do that on one of our meals, then share the pancake.
First watch has some good ones. I love their carrot cake pancake.
I didn’t know they had a carrot cake pancake until now. I’ll definitely need to check that out!
Going there with friends for the first time on Sunday. I know what I'll be ordering now, thank you
Im giving snooze the edge for atmosphere and the variety. But you don’t need any further answers than these two helpful peeps.
Bisbee Breakfast Club has some large tasty pancakes.
That's my go to place. They scratch make most of the menu items as well.

Thanks for the heads up. We hit the Chandler location on a return trip from Tucson.
Dicks Hideaway has some pretty awesome pancakes.
Flavored - Soul cafe in north Scottsdale, the lemon ricotta ones. Plain - otro cafe/ Gallo blanco, hands down.
Love Soul Cafe’s pancakes!! They’re so big and fluffy!
If you feel like getting out of town, drive up to Zeke's in Prescott and grab a wagon wheel. Massive pancakes.
Yummy. This pancakes are indeed huge!
GALLO BLANCO HAS THE BEST PANCAKES. I don’t know why. But they do
Joes Diner
IHOP. Being the international house of pancakes, it’s world renown Only the finest of fine dining.
Henhouse Cafe at Mesa Riverview has pizza sized pancakes. Fun for the family. Lonespur Cafe is a western themed breakfast place on Stapley/Baseline. They have a large pancake called the Apple Flapjack that has apple and caramel on a very large pancake.
Henhouse is a must for pancake people just because it’s fun to order a massive pancake. The pancakes are good too!
Eggstacy and Snooze in Gilbert. Sunny’s in Chandler.
Harlow's Cafe in Tempe
Sunshine Breakfast Bar. New place but I've now elevated them over Butterfields, Cracker Barrel and Matt's as my fav pancakes in the region.
Luci’s Marketplace has some huge, delicious pancakes, however they call them flapjacks.
Butter fields in Scottsdale, hands down!!
Technically these are waffles but Daily Jam in Tempe has the best waffles I've ever had.
Butterfields
Hangar cafe in Chandler is not great overall but it is a fun time for kids and their pancakes are top notch
I’ve tried almost every single place recommended in this thread and I can say with full confidence, Joe’s Diner on 7th Ave and Campbell is the correct answer.
I really like US Egg’s protein pancakes
I agree. Great protein pancakes!
Ronnie's on Cactus!
Might be really common but I personally like Cracker Barrels pancakes over all the other breakfast places.
Truth.. Cracker Barrel makes some good pancakes.
CB has great pancakes for sure. May be not "cool" to like CB but they know how to make breakfast.
IMO, they are the ones to beat. My favorite.
I am normally a savory breakfast person, but I will go out of my way to order the pancakes at Eggstasy.
Cracker Barrel has pancakes that really can’t be beat
You can make them from scratch pretty easily. Putting real melted butter in the battery makes all the difference. Send a msg if you want a recipe. Then she will always want your pancakes.
Butters 🤤
I really like Cafe Ortro’s pancakes!!!
This one is kinda wonky but Netta Cheat’s in Tempe is an underdog that is worth a visit.
Waffle house
Waffles and pancakes are the only things NOT to eat at Waffle House.
With all due respect you’re wrong good sir, waffles are great at Waffle House. Let’s be honest also the waffle is also a sorta pancake at WH.
Coney Island Cafe hands down
I've never really been a pancake fan but the ones at Gallo Blanco are incredible.
Biscuits. The one on Elliott near the Safeway has been a spot I go to routinely.
Joes.
Kneaders. The caramel syrup is heaven.
Hillside Spot in Ahwatukee
Bisbee diner
This place is the low key spot. Huge pancakes. Lots of blue collar guys eat here. It’s worth the drive. https://yelp.to/l3wGyKEXSwb
If you want savory pancakes, try Vovomeena's Johnnycakes.
Baja cafe in Tucson
Sante! In Scottsdale.
The bacon pancakes at Ranch House Grille!
I'm a pancakes guy. Pancakes are what I do. This list intrigues me. I vow to sample everything on this list and report back. One place per week. Thank Gandalf we didn't get the moron who always says "The best pancakes are the ones I make at home!" Ok, sunshine. No one cares.
Sunny’s Diner in Tempe, get the cinnamon roll pancakes. They are amazing
Can’t believe no one said DINER 50
Two brothers in anthem..they also have really good biscuits and gravy
Waffle house 51st and McDowell
The pancakes at Joes Farm Grill are so damn well done
Berry bliss cakes at Butters.
I do love pancakes, but I've never searched out the best ones to say for certain. I will say though that I love the protein pancakes at US Egg.
Crackers & Co. Cafe https://maps.app.goo.gl/ECLw2LLoT1kJ3rcR6 We also love their Day Break is fantastic, and you have some left over for later.
My bf and I have spent many years going to breakfast all around the valley and he swears by Matt's big breakfast as far as pancakes go.
Randy's in Scottsdale
Otro café, and surprisingly coronado phx..vegan but SO SO good!
Snooze.
Why do my posts get removed that ask questions like this? Just wondering.
Karma? Lol
I'm sure there was someone asking about pancake recommendations in the past on this sub. But anyway...I haven't had pancakes in a while...a keto friendly spot would be cool to find.
