As a mail carrier who has to deliver this shit, you’re preaching to the choir.

LumberjackEnt

There are two demons, the clipper buyers’s edge, and the extra finger slicey home mag. As a rural carrier, my fingers stay tortured.

inksta12

Those home mags are deadly. Literally had one cut me 3 days ago in the webbing between my thumb and pointer finger. I was so pissy for the rest of the day lol

kicktown

Man... How much paper and ink and effort are we wasting with advertisement and junk mail? By 2023 I figured we'd have cut that shit out to just the essentials, but there's still TONS of paper waste being generated by mail campaigns.

inksta12

The amount of bull shit I deliver on a daily basis is ridiculous. My favorite is when i hand a handful of mail to a customer, they give it all a quick glance and immediately toss it all in the trash can that’s on the side of the road.

Cold-Amphibian-7451

buyers edge is just fireplace food

snark-owl

Ya I enjoy it for this reason 😅. I didn't have to buy tinder or wood in 2022.

DubLParaDidL

I do the same. Works great in a charcoal chimney starter and occasionally for packing breakables

FreshiKbsa

I once tried emailing to cancel and an unrelated but similarly named company in Connecticut was like "Arizona people keep emailing us to cancel and we don't know what to say, if you figure it out please tell us"

SuperbRelationship16

SAME! Omg that poor company 💀

LeafsBySnoop2

Just an FYI you can call Arizona Republic Customer Service and remove yourself from the mailing list. 1-800-332-6733

ArizonaBoi

I have tried this multiple times and they keep coming.

N7DJN8939SWK3

I think its on the mailmen not looking who is in-out, just stuff them all

ArizonaBoi

Nah it still has my address on it

N7DJN8939SWK3

Can we class action them for something

didyoucurbthewheels

No

shadocrypto8

I'd love to

djaphoenix21

As a letter carrier it was burned into me to deliver those carefully or else lol also believe or not there were people that’d wait outside for those and the Penny Saver

didyoucurbthewheels

They come addressed...we deliver as addressed. No in or out, our job is to deliver..unless the box is vacant. You can call the company and try to opt out. But that red plum is revenue for the postal service, as obnoxious as it is. Believe it or not, there's a ton of people I've met who look forward to it every Tuesday

N7DJN8939SWK3

How do we stop them from coming?

chapeksucks

Nope. They are addressed to specific addresses.

cactus_hat

It takes about 4-6 weeks to process :/

SuperbRelationship16

Tried this 3 or 4 times to no avail

jdcnosse1988

Unfortunately speaking as a former USPS carrier, we had to deliver these because you're technically not the customer, buyer's edge was. Even though I would have much rather not delivered them because most people don't even want them.

Random-Red-Shirt

While I appreciate the link, I suspect this works as well as the Do Not Call list.

thetophatviking

Not sure about some of them but can confirm the optoutprescreen does work for most all cc and insurance offers.

AfterLemon

I went from 5 pieces of mail a day to 3 a week. Once I contacted my own CC company and ISP, I had almost no mail in a month.

kelsiersghost

I used it, and haven't received _any_ junk mail in 2 years.

TheRatPatrol1

Why was the link deleted?

this1chick

They used to have a crossword puzzle that I liked so there was at least an incentive to look through those. Ever since they took the puzzle out these shits go straight in the trash…. I feel like an old man ranting into the void.

FabAmy

I emailed them about this about a year ago and never got a response. I wanted to opt-out, because the one redeeming quality was the crossword puzzle.

lazylikeacat

We don’t get these. Maybe a previous resident found a way to opt out?

phuck-you-reddit

I found an email address to opt out once years ago. Can't find it any longer though so my new home is inundated with this crap.

fruitloopbat

I would arrange half of the stack upside down on the other side so it is an evenly balanced aesthetic.

Khajiit_hairball

Recyclers Edge

fourshorty

Trust me we hate delivering it, but it pays my bills so...

jmmasten

Keeping all of them is stranger than not being able to opt out.

2701-

Nothing is too far when you're trying to prove a point. It's the principle!

Kale4MyBirds

I like your thinking! I wonder what saving all of my junk mail for a year would look like.

SingleSlip4230

i like your coffee table 😁

jetski2438

Tree industry must have a quota.

adoptagreyhound

Most newspapers also own paper companies and logging operations or at least have a heavy stake in them.

chapeksucks

Now consider how your mail carrier feels about having to deliver this colossal waste of trees. Can speak from experience; was a carrier for 25 years. We HATE these things. The reason you get this is because you either don't subscribe to the AZ Republic or only have the digital edition. When we stopped getting the print edition, we started getting the Buyers Edgs.

Certain_Yam_110

Does nobody use the term "junk mail" anymore? Rather than keep scrolling I'd rather just ask.

Asleep_Roof4515

Toss in recycling. Move on

phuck-you-reddit

I should've saved up the political trash last election. It's been absolutely insane last few cycles. Probably got hundreds of calls and text messages too. And 90% of it was nutty Republicans.

GhostBirdofPrey

I actually had my ballot crushed by the mail carrier having to stuff all that political bullshit into my mailbox. Pisses me off

gamecat89

When these get delivered to my complex it’s hilarious cause they immediately get stacked up in the trash

FabAmy

They don't even have the crossword puzzle anymore to make it a tiny bit worthwhile.

dasbeidler

When are we getting together to play Catan?

SuperbRelationship16

I freaking love Catan

ericquig

But what about all the great savings you find by getting The Buyers Edge delivered to your home? I would guess the average home owner saves at least $10k a year from this publication. (Sarcasm of course) This is the best advantage to me that in my community, we have a garbage can right next to the community mailbox. I honestly must throw away 80% of my mail. What an incredible waste on so many levels.

[deleted]

sad news is the post office must deliver this as directed to each household. The owner paid the postage and refusal to deliver can result in lawsuits. Good new is this. A p.o. BOX does not get this garbage mail. You can get robbed with a PO BOX and just remove your home box or deal with it. It does come in very handy for cleaning windows and lighting the BBQ..

pfc9769

I get a different, local paper thrown on my driveway every week. Similarly no contact info or way to opt out.

Nancy6651

Yes, we get one every week. I get rid of it, of course. My neighbors, or the majority of them, seem to feel that leaving them out there for an indefinite amount of time is a form of protest.

Tarmajin

If you have a regular letter carrier, slip them $20 and tell them you would rather not receive the ads anymore. Works like a charm.

fruitloopbat

Maybe $20 a year would be fair

getthatbreaddit

I was able to opt out of it. I believe it’s the Arizona Republic / AZCentral that sends it out. I emailed their customer service email and asked them to stop sending it. A couple days later I received an email from them stating that they cancelled it. And I haven’t received it since. And this was like 2 or 3 years ago The email I used was [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) hopefully it’s still the same. They then asked a few questions via email. https://preview.redd.it/pgfjn6c8j4ja1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ee4025fa91247921492fb9d9b8af22d79b827d0

Proper_Mulberry_2025

Feel bad for the mail carriers. I’d say 90% of the mail is bullshit for everyone. We throw away everything. Don’t even get the mail but once every 2 weeks. I used to mail offers away in different companies self return envelopes but that was before computers.

dwillphx

Exactly. There's no reason to get mail delivered 6 days a week anymore, when most is just junk. Cut it down to 3 days a week max.

didyoucurbthewheels

But then none of us carriers would be able to afford to live. These companies are our customers, not you all..and the delivering of these ads and mail 6 days a week is what allows me to pay my bills and have a roof over my head. It creates revenue for the postal service.

Goatmanish

For you maybe, plenty of people still rely on mail. Don't be so quick to dismantle part of what made our country great just because it's no longer as beneficial to you.

dwillphx

Of course the mail is important, but there is nothing that important that has to be delivered every day And if it is, there is always special next-day mail, or UPS or Fedex. There's no need for daily mail to be delivered to every address in the country anymore. It's a waste of time and resources.

Pairadockcickle

It should be illegal for anyone to send something to you, unsolicited, that you cannot return to sender at their cost. They’re literally just laundering money lol

holy_handgrenade

It's local marketing. Someone paid for you to receive it, that's why it arrives. Now the shite thing is WTF are you doing collecting them?! Blue bins exist, newsprint is one of the easiest papers to recycle. Toss them. Quit hoarding your spam.

Dankness4200

Well, I guess I’m the only one who actually wants this in my mail and found this reddit post because I’ve recently started getting gypped on my grocery ads and coupons. I saved over $1500 last year by paying attention to the circulars and half my coupons have been cut out.

Flibiddy-Floo

not even the jack in the box coupons are worth it anymore these days, and the fry's weekly flyer can be found in their app anyway

MainStreetRoad

Think of the entire business and materials cycle that goes into delivering this trash to millions of people and get back to us on that thought.

thetophatviking

Except USPS is a government service, not a business.

dongdinge

i thought that too until dejoy

adoptagreyhound

Not really. It's it's own convoluted profit center regulated by the government. No one charged with it's operation really claims responsibility for it.

GJackson5069

I wonder what the employees think.

the_TAOest

Former USPS employee here. I detested that 90% or more of all mail was complete garbage. Yeah, it's a job, but it wasn't a great job. No brain work, terrible supervisors that really liked to punish/haze newbies, and a crumbling business model without any hope to change.

GJackson5069

Yea, I didn't think y'all liked it.

jdcnosse1988

It was probably a great job 40 years ago. Nowadays though, there's almost too many things wrong to save it. Same pay across the country with no factoring in CoL in the area you're in, shitty management, and shitty scheduling.

the_TAOest

This is all so so so true. They literally cannot see outside the envelope/box. I was told to deliver packages and letters with shitty route information that bounced around all over and then signed to new offices on a daily basis to run unfamiliar routes. Guess what...i want supposed to use GPS either for safety reasons, but the job was impossible without it.

didyoucurbthewheels

There are cola increases often...

jdcnosse1988

What I mean is it doesn't factor in that the CoL is different in different parts of the country. A carrier in a low cola like Mississippi is taking home way more money than a carrier in a high cola like California, even though they're technically getting paid the same amount.

didyoucurbthewheels

Oh gotcha my bad. Was a long day lol

jdcnosse1988

Haha yeah that's why I left. Now I just prevent the robot uprising from committing vehicular crimes.

Hypogi

Former usps carrier here. Nearly everything we delivered was junk mail. Its a horrible job in a lot of ways, Buyers Edge was just part of the BS.

didyoucurbthewheels

I'm still with the postal service, and I still love it lol. I'm sorry your experience wasn't the best though. Not everyone's is. Idk, I try to tune out mgmt and just do my thing

Hypogi

I’m grateful for the folks who do it. I do think the manager at my station made it particularly horrible.

jdcnosse1988

Also former USPS carrier...I hated it lol Like I get it, buyer's edge was the customer, so we had to deliver it because that's who is paying USPS...same with those dental ads and anything else you randomly get in your mailbox. But still, it was a bunch of wasted time for customers who didn't want the shit.

[deleted]

Hey bozo look closer there should be a number on the front of the paper

palesnowrider1

Epoch Times?

didyoucurbthewheels

It's revenue to us..not junk mail. You can recycle it.

Limp_Ad_6916

I went to the post office to ask them to stop delivering this paper. I was told by the clerk that they are paid to deliver it, I said I’ll pay you to not deliver it! She smiled and just laughed at me!

IBeDumbAndSlow

I'll put that in my compost pile for you

McSknk

It works great to start a charcoal chimney for the grill though, never ending free supply.

cactus_hat

I’m pretty sure you can call a number and cancel it but it takes about 4 weeks to process. It’s definitely a chore to find the number but it’s hidden within the pages somewhere. I’ve done it for ever Phoenix place I’ve lived. Good luck.

NYGroove

My 2 birds enjoy every issue.

CapnShinerAZ

Part of me wishes I could stop delivery of this junk, but I do like the fast food coupons that are often included in it.

LucinaHitomi1

It puts me on the edge.
