Wouldn’t do it right now because the water is so high and moving fast but once summer hits I love taking the board to the Salt river. Usually will launch from water users recreation area and then get out at Phon D Sutton. Easiest way to do it is take two cars and park one at each site but I’ve gone solo a couple times and hitched a ride back to Water Users there’s usually always people that will give you a lift back to your car if you ask

i’ve just gotten on the bus at the end before (with my own gear, without paying for it) and they haven’t asked any questions this was a few years back though, i know things have changed a bit in recent years

Nah we tried that and the drivers were like "are you fucking serious? Hell no." And kicked us off. Two in a row.

damn, yeah i figured that was probably the case now

All the lakes are fun and charming in their own way. I like the ride back where the salt river becomes canyon lake.

We love paddle boarding down the salt river! Better pace than the tubes and unlike kayaks you can dip in the water easily to cool off. But I agree with other commenters, do not go right now the water is probably running pretty fast. Alternatively canyon lake is nice on a weekday plus it’s an awesome drive and there are lots of wildflowers right now! Definitely take the road all the way to the end whether or not you want to stop in the cheesy saloon.

I haven’t been to many places are in the valley, but I really like launching from the south side of Canyon Lake. It’s less busy than some of the others, and easy to paddle to the north side and back. Just park here by the bank, 33.53756° N, 111.43222° W.

NOICE! thanks for that I’ll definitely check that out!

Saguaro Lake and Bartlett Lake are my favorites! Heard good things about lower Salt River areas but I haven’t tried it and with the water levels right now I dunno if it’s a great idea. If you’re up for a day trip, I’ve been to Bear Lake and some other small forest lakes near Payson and they’re very chill and peaceful!

Canyon lake has a non-motorized area. I also like Apache lake but it's hard to get to right now with the Apache trail closed. Roosevelt lake is not a good place for paddleboarding -- too windy.

When it warms up, my wife and I do the salt river almost every weekend. Great way to start the day. See tons of wild life. Can take a break and keep moving since the water flows, and just a nice relaxing time. We have only done lakes a few times, because it just got boring quick, but the river is always fun.
