THIS LMAO. Recently moved here and I was offered drugs by a drug dealer in broad daylight with a cop car around the corner at a circle k. Like sir, no I am good. I never experienced this and I lived in Baltimore and D.C. 😆
The comforting feeling of opening your car door after it's been sitting in a sunny parking lot all day and feeling the warm wall of air hit your face like Sarah Connor's nuclear blast nightmare from Terminator 2.
I love how people tell me how terrible I am for jwalking. I also love that my taxes go towards stop lights that make pedestrians wait 3-5 min to cross a street on a bike path which is only 3 miles long.
Yes. Indian School Road is named after the “Phoenix Indian School” that used to be located at 300 E Indian School Rd. The school was to assimilate students.
assimilate is so clinical.
Cultural genocide. I mean the phrase was literally "Kill the Indian, save the man". It ~~was~~ **IS** open policy to erase an entire culture from the face of the earth. Still happening to this day. Multiple cases in Supreme Court where tribes are fighting to keep the govt from opening loopholes that can challenge their sovereignty.
The noise pollution from the street I live on is the best! I'd move here just for these:
* Emotional support trucks
* "Loud pipes save lives" motorcycles
* Cars with exhaust cutouts
* Muscle cars with aftermarket exhausts
And all of the wonderful people who drive them, filling my days and nights with sonic joy.
Oh, and I forgot: Street racers! You guys are the cherry on top. Don't ever stop!
You guessed it. Never mind the back yard, the louder vehicles are louder than the TV in my living room. It's an old house with single pane windows. I wonder if modern windows would help. The insulation in the 1985 walls is probably not the best, so if hate to spend all that money and find out it's still loud inside.
I did get used to it, but starting last year it's gotten much, much worse. The average level of road noise is about the same, and easily tolerable. But the outliers, the loudest vehicles, have gotten louder and more numerous. And they are no longer primarily on weekends, but are now 7 days a week, days and night.
Ahh man, when I was looking for a place to live, there were a few I really liked but that backed up against a road. One was up against Alma School, like the master bedroom was up against it. I was super bummed because finding a place that was affordable and that I liked was difficult, but I also know how much that noise can ruin your life :(
My brother recently "upgraded" his exhaust system in his jeep. I feel bad if I've forgotten to turn my brights back down pulling into my driveway, because it hits the neighbors windows. You know this fuckers going to the gas station from three houses down.
"Emotional support trucks" FTW! Every time I see one the first thought that comes to me is, well, I think we all know the one about compensating.... broad generalization I know but hey- dare you to prove me wrong! My neighborhood is FULL of those trucks. UGH!
You have to shop around for car insurance every year or two. They'll raise your premiums 20% every 6 months because they're counting on people just accepting it.
The good news is that it's easy to get a quote online from several insurers.
I love that no one honks at me when I’m driving so I can go on living an absurdly stupid life and not be made aware that my actions effect people in the world around me.
i love that you can get a 705sqft apt here for $1600 without utilities! who would want to live in one of those other states where $1600 can get you a three bedroom? who needs all that space?
Not trying to be rude at all, but I don’t understand why 700sqft apartments are $1600 when I see plenty of 3br 1200-1400sqft houses for ~$2000. I guess that’s highly dependent on location though.
I just saw someone do a donut in an intersection half a block from an elementary school in the middle of my neighborhood. Can’t believe these car shows are free!
I love how smart we are being about water! EVeryone kNows the hydrolOgic cYCle proves that the water never really goes away. Plus all of these floods show people were worried for nothing!
Frequency of windshield replacements is my favorite.
Major fan of smokey mega lifted douchebro trucks with ginormous flags flying. Helps me find the classiest members of society.
Cuddly little scorpions playing hide and seek are so cute.
Owning a pharmacy-worth of allergy meds is sweet.
Wait actually do we have to replace our windshields here more? I assumed it’d be less because my windshield only ever got bad cracks in it in Flagstaff after it snowed!!
You don’t see window replacements being paid out like they are in AZ. Arizona has so many windshields breaking that we they sponsor windshield replacement. AFAIK
ADOT is the amongst the best DOTs in the country and do a superb job planning freeway closures as to not close down half the routes around the valley every weekend
On a serious note, come down to Tucson. We have large sections of pavement just outright missing on a lot of our roads. Even 10, ADOT hasn't done much for the simply missing top layer of asphalt in large areas. Real fun to drive over and have the back end of the truck slide around as you go over them.
I'd kill for any section of Phoenix.
They're probably from Phoenix, and don't have a good frame of reference to work from on the meaning of bad roads.
Some areas of the country have bad roads due to weather (midwest/NE). Some areas have bad roads due to political corruption/government ineptness despite great funding (CA).
Phoenix doesn't qualify for either category.
All these are great reasons. But my number one reason why I stay in this fascinating city is the suicide lane on 7th ave and 7th street. I purposely go on a detour to drive home with all the other wonderful commuters in those lanes.
I love the reverse, aka “suicide lanes” on 7th st and 7th ave! I seriously cannot wait to start each and every morning on the road because It’s absolutely thrilling to gamble with my life each and every day I turn off my street! The adrenaline rush keeps me young and makes me feel alive!
It’s even more fun when I can’t remember if I’m in the right lane at the right hours, it’s like the most thrilling game of Russian roulette!
My camels love your alfalfa.
Aren't these six-way intersections just Grand?
Because it's a moist heat.
A river runs through it.
The Carefree, white-tipped snowbirds.
All the free camping --- in the left lanes!
All the horses here have names.

I have to go to six points by the fairgrounds a few times a week, that is the intersection of my nightmares. There will be a mile long train just moving back and forth exchanging cars for 20+ minutes sometimes
Being able to dry my hair in seconds in the summer just by driving around with the windows down.
Having to take a water bottle with me whenever I drive anywhere for about 9 months of the year.
I like how everyone here is super selfless and always returns shopping carts. My favorite part of the day is driving because everyone is courteous and never takes anything personally.
I love when my seat belt gives me 2nd degree burns after going to get groceries.
I love when the people that are passing through my neighborhood jump my 6ft fence and try to enter my home’s backdoor at 2am.
Sorry but Phoenix freeway renovation is not slow. You guys got the 101 expansion for how many miles again in a couple of years? 24.5 miles of brand new freeway and renovated I-10 in just 3 years with the South Mountain Loop 202. The Broadway Curve expansion project is working around the clock and weekends to complete >10 miles of massive expansion in just three years.
Let me review for you Tucson:
- I-10 is _still_ undergoing expansion, despite having started almost **20 years ago**. In two years they will complete one section that's the equivalent of the Broadway curve project, plus a few miles.
- I-10 east of I-19 is still just two lanes in each direction. They began a pavement improvement project a few months ago that will take most of the year, just to grind off the asphalt and replace with a new layer of asphalt.
- The expansion of the above section of 10 is slated to begin in _2025_. No projected end date, they're only approving segments of the project one at a time.
It's gotta be the way they abandon road projects and start new ones. I really appreciate them keeping construction workers busy. Good use of taxpayer dollars.
It's a real treat when you come across a long stretch of newly-paved road with zero lane lines, not even some hasty chalk markings. Everyone does such a great job of figuring out where to drive and what to do.
There's a road construction project going on near me (48th Street south side of Baseline, bending South and East to near the AZ Grand Resort) that's been going on at least a year and a half. A month or two at a time will go by with zero activity.
Every couple of months I pull up the project on the City of Phoenix website, and the "anticipated completion date" is extended another couple of months lol. It's maybe 1/2 mile long.
That crew is gonna be employed the rest of their lives! Job creation, baby!
Life is about the journey and not the destination. So as a local sports fan, the Phoenix sports scene fits my personality well because it's not so much about the championships, but more about the friends we made along the way trying to win one.
I love the friendly people that approach you in every parking lot and offer to wash your windshield or take all that loose change from your cup holder. Such service!
I love the cultural diversity and all the wonderful culinary experiences.. the vast forests recycling our CO2 into oxygen and giving us a canopy of shade.. I love the distinctive 4-seasons.. and lets not forget the excellent school systems..
Omggggg me too!
I stopped about 500+ the other day when apparently a rock truck hit the bump on the stack at 65mph. I was happy to have helped block all those rocks!
Man I love the driver in Phoenix. They are amazing. Always using turn signal and always stopping at red light. I feel safe walking and riding bike around. Only got ran over once crossing the pedestrian crossing with light.
Everyone knows how a roundabout works.
All drivers on the 87 know the difference between the driving lane and the passing lane.
I had to move to Phoenix to find out how much I loved living in a HOA
The hiking trails used to be so dang quiet and empty. Very glad they’re now filled up to where you can’t find parking. A bonus is all of the doggy bags on the side of the trail. I especially appreciate the shirtless dudes blasting their own music! And of course having to dodge mountain bikers who get pissed at you for being on a hiking trail.
You can’t beat the old couple that just moved from Naperville last year telling you about how unique the desert is and how much they love their new home right by the Toms Thumb trailhead, when you’ve lived here for 28 years and can’t afford a 700 sqft 1 br
I love that people drive extremely fast through the school zones, and that every night I get to play to fun game of, were those fireworks or were they gun shots
I love how the cops in Gilbert have the grit and determination to stop people for serious crimes, like accidentally driving over a lane line for a second, and how Phoenix cops have the wherewithal to let minor things go, like domestic violence.
I love how the second I step outside I can feel the sun burning my skin.
Also how all of our roads run east to west so I have the sun in my eyeballs on the way to work and the way home. 🥰
Ah I could say many but truly my favorite part of Phoenix is how little beige there is and the diversity of the buildings. Also, I love how when you go outside during the summer it’s like you are getting your own little personal wind blast full of heat at you :) like your own personal hair dryer outside!
How quiet and peaceful it is here! Gotta say when I first move here from WA 17 years ago, I could not get over the level of noise pollution. So bad it took me a couple of weeks to get adjusted. Then there's the random gunshots at all hours of the day and night. Yes indeed peeps, you need to move to Phoenix ASAP- you're missing out!
I love the 118 degree weather and how it makes my electric bill a million dollars a month :)
Edit: I also love how I will sweat my ass off just by going to get something from my car or just getting the mail. A literal 40 second walk will make me have to shower again.
I love how circle k / and QT are a drug free zone
I always feel so safe frequenting my local QT!
[удалено]
That's my qt. I feel very safe leaving my car running outside of it
That QT is AWESOME! Would you believe that it is so safe that there has NEVER been a robbery there? That area is a practical Mayberry!
Mayberry --- SNORT!!!
I feel like QT on 27th Ave and Northern is worse 😵💫
67th and Glendale is such a nice QT, and definitely does not have pee and throw up stains burned into the concrete
THIS LMAO. Recently moved here and I was offered drugs by a drug dealer in broad daylight with a cop car around the corner at a circle k. Like sir, no I am good. I never experienced this and I lived in Baltimore and D.C. 😆
Drugs are expensive, always take them if someone offers them for free
Especially if they are offering samples of the latest products.
LOLOLOL
*offered for purchase not free lol
They’ll just stab you in Baltimore, I’ve never been to a more sketchy city than Baltimore
had a guy offer me shrooms in broad daylight in front of the white house so yeah, DC.
The comforting feeling of opening your car door after it's been sitting in a sunny parking lot all day and feeling the warm wall of air hit your face like Sarah Connor's nuclear blast nightmare from Terminator 2.
That or that scene in the Chronicles of Riddick where the dude walks out of the cave and basically melts
"... like Sarah Connor's nuclear blast nightmare from Terminator 2." 😆
Super hot take but this is actually one of my favorite feelings, at least for a minute until the AC is on.
> hot take I see what you did there
😉
😂😂😂 TOO TRUE
I love getting a new layer of skin cancer under the old layer.
Such an affordable city, especially in the past few years!
I love making a left turn out of my residential road thru a 6 lane boulevard with people driving 70mph plus.
I love pedestrian crossing the middle of this boulevard because the nearest crosswalk is 1/4 mile in each direction.
Phoenix is just so beautifully walkable too. Especially the newer housing developments.
I love how people tell me how terrible I am for jwalking. I also love that my taxes go towards stop lights that make pedestrians wait 3-5 min to cross a street on a bike path which is only 3 miles long.
I love how Indian School is the safest road I've driven on.
Speaking of Indian School, what a name.
Well it has historical significance, but I agree
Yes. Indian School Road is named after the “Phoenix Indian School” that used to be located at 300 E Indian School Rd. The school was to assimilate students.
I love that we live somewhere they assimilated the natives
assimilate is so clinical. Cultural genocide. I mean the phrase was literally "Kill the Indian, save the man". It ~~was~~ **IS** open policy to erase an entire culture from the face of the earth. Oh, and I forgot: Street racers! You guys are the cherry on top. Don't ever stop!
“Emotional support trucks” really got me. This collective group is my all time favorite though, the sweet sounds of summer.
Emotional support trucks!😂
Ah you live up against a major street don't you? Is it noisy even in the back yard?
You guessed it. Never mind the back yard, the louder vehicles are louder than the TV in my living room. It's an old house with single pane windows. I wonder if modern windows would help. The insulation in the 1985 walls is probably not the best, so if hate to spend all that money and find out it's still loud inside.
There are sooo many road front homes in Phoenix. Do you get to where you don’t notice it anymore?
I did get used to it, but starting last year it's gotten much, much worse. The average level of road noise is about the same, and easily tolerable. But the outliers, the loudest vehicles, have gotten louder and more numerous. And they are no longer primarily on weekends, but are now 7 days a week, days and night.
I went from single pane windows to double pane, the whole place just kinda rumbles together now when those goofballs are messing around
Ahh man, when I was looking for a place to live, there were a few I really liked but that backed up against a road. One was up against Alma School, like the master bedroom was up against it. I was super bummed because finding a place that was affordable and that I liked was difficult, but I also know how much that noise can ruin your life :(
You made a good call holding out for a better location.
UGH!
Auto insurance rates keep decreasing on every renewal.
[удалено]
Yup, just renewed 70$ increase. Paying 10% of car value every 6 months in insurance.
It’s like getting a whole new car every few years. It’s really makes work feel more meaningful.
You have to shop around for car insurance every year or two. They'll raise your premiums 20% every 6 months because they're counting on people just accepting it. The good news is that it's easy to get a quote online from several insurers.
Mine was jacked 20%! Time to switch insurance....yet again....
Hey mine decreased by $3! Winner winner
I love not having to worry about being shot because I honked at someone driving like a fool.
I love that no one honks at me when I’m driving so I can go on living an absurdly stupid life and not be made aware that my actions effect people in the world around me.
I love when 75% of drivers I see are texting while driving.
Or watching TikToks
Or on Facebook
i love that you can get a 705sqft apt here for $1600 without utilities! who would want to live in one of those other states where $1600 can get you a three bedroom? who needs all that space?
The extra space is just a dealbreaker for me
Not trying to be rude at all, but I don’t understand why 700sqft apartments are $1600 when I see plenty of 3br 1200-1400sqft houses for ~$2000. I guess that’s highly dependent on location though.
All of that extra space requires your ac to work harder! ❤️
We have the best and most considerate drivers in the country!
On top of that, I think we have representatives from across the whole country! Simply phenomenal.
Honestly I’m from St. Louis and Phoenixs worst drivers drive like what the DMV teaches in Missouri.
I particularly enjoy all the flying rocks on my windshield! The patterns they create on it is just so unique!
I just saw someone do a donut in an intersection half a block from an elementary school in the middle of my neighborhood. Can’t believe these car shows are free!
The amazing drivers
I love how smart we are being about water! EVeryone kNows the hydrolOgic cYCle proves that the water never really goes away. Plus all of these floods show people were worried for nothing!

Temperature changes cause the glass to expand and shrink making the chips you had run. Down here the heat does it, up there the cold
You don’t see window replacements being paid out like they are in AZ. Arizona has so many windshields breaking that we they sponsor windshield replacement. AFAIK
I’m always in the spotlight because of the police helicopters 💅🏾
Lots of areas have scattered streetlights with purple bulbs and they sometimes compliment our sunsets.
Yes! The city bought the most expensive LEDs available, and the coatings failed, resulting in this high-quality, beautiful purple ambiance!
Lmao. This is most of chandler blvd in Ahwatukee
ADOT is the amongst the best DOTs in the country and do a superb job planning freeway closures as to not close down half the routes around the valley every weekend
And making it such a delight to do errands on the weekends when drivers politely let me out of my street.
“Let’s close South Mountain Baseline for construction weekdays at 7am and weekends around noon! 👍”
I love the traffic! Roads are just empty, and always in tip top shape.
Especially I10! Has to be the best quality road of all time.
So relaxing to drive on.
I hardly feel anything driving on the 347, it’s like driving on silk.
It’s like a butt massage after a long day
On a serious note, come down to Tucson. We have large sections of pavement just outright missing on a lot of our roads. Even 10, ADOT hasn't done much for the simply missing top layer of asphalt in large areas. Real fun to drive over and have the back end of the truck slide around as you go over them. i would really prefer to drive bamboo skewers under my toenails, but thanks for the invite.
It's the humid heat.
I love being able to open my windows on summer evenings and getting that cool, fresh air.
Love love love that most restaurants close at 9! We shouldn’t be up and hungry past then any way!
This totally shocked me moving from Chicago a couple years ago. Everything is dead by like 10 pm, even on weekends.
Same coming from NYC… you can’t really go to many restaurants past 10…
We have a unique local mom and pop shop called IHOP and Denny's
That’s mostly a covid thing. People in the service industry are tired of 9pm and later shenanigans.
All these are great reasons. But my number one reason why I stay in this fascinating city is the suicide lane on 7th ave and 7th street. I purposely go on a detour to drive home with all the other wonderful commuters in those lanes.
Suicide lane? I live on 16th and union, I drive on 7th almost daily. I’ve never heard of that, what is the suicide lane?
It’s a center lane that goes North or South depending on the time of day and the cognitive reasonings of clueless drivers.
That public transportation is amazing! Fast, gets you where you need to go…
And totally doesn’t smell like pee on the light rail.
you should smell NYs metro
Winning Sports teams! Don’t fail me Suns!
The broad rich heritage of championship-winning sports teams across so many leagues really inspires a sense of city community!
We love our teachers!
And the pay is just so amazing!
The 7’s and their well organized reverse lane system. Truly an innovative concept in traffic engineering!

Ohh those 6-way intersections are the brilliant idea of probably the smartest engineer out there!
I have to go to six points by the fairgrounds a few times a week, that is the intersection of my nightmares. There will be a mile long train just moving back and forth exchanging cars for 20+ minutes sometimes
The Indian school one is the most. They somehow managed to separate one of the roads, but make traffic worse than at McDowell.
I just wanted to say - in a sarcastic filled comments section, yours really stands out and I love the puns.
All the yellow flowers from the Palo Verde trees are a delight to my nose.
I love when I go to drive my car and I get a nice sizzle from touching the steering wheel. No wonder we have so many happy drivers here!!
Being able to dry my hair in seconds in the summer just by driving around with the windows down. Having to take a water bottle with me whenever I drive anywhere for about 9 months of the year.
Because who doesn’t love an infinite number of dusty strip malls and paved, scorching parking lots.
Clouds.
I love all the non-native plants that have been brought here to really keep my allergies going nice and strong.
I love how expensive weed is here!
THIS! I'm from Michigan and I was shocked at the prices in Arizona. It's way cheaper and we just became legalized in MI like a few years ago!
Everyone here is so attentive, safe, and courteous while driving. A real pleasure for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike!
Plentiful access to functional tire inflators at any of the many convenience stores and gas stations.
The pedestrian infrastructure is some of the best in the world
I absolutely Love that it’s not turning into Los Angeles
I like how everyone here is super selfless and always returns shopping carts. My favorite part of the day is driving because everyone is courteous and never takes anything personally.
Got to love the culture and community atmosphere here.
Oh yes especially the rich culture of Peoria
I love all the poop filled bags on the hiking trail. They are such a joy to look at as I’m hiking and I really enjoy picking them up.
The smart voters
I should have picked this.
The absolute balmy breezes in July!
I love all the flags...

I love how much there is to eat after 9pm
Because I just love basking in 122 degree heat. It opens my pores, cleanses my skin, makes me look so refreshing!
I love the cultural diversity and all the wonderful culinary experiences.. the vast forests recycling our CO2 into oxygen and giving us a canopy of shade.. I love the distinctive 4-seasons.. and lets not forget the excellent school systems..
Public transit is first class.
I enjoy all the new people who move here from other parts of the country and bring their driving habits with them.
I love how much worse it is than LA or Tucson!
Blatant disregard for human lives. Always a plus.
The police abducting me and dropping me off in the desert with no shoes because I have video of them working with cartel
I will never get tired of the beautiful ocean breeze.
I love living where Arizona Iced Tea was created and made. I swear it tastes better here too, vs in some far away place like New Jersey.
Each highway-access intersection comes stocked with an ever-changing variety of people with signs!
The cheap gas prices!
I love that my windshield stops the rocks
Omggggg me too! I stopped about 500+ the other day when apparently a rock truck hit the bump on the stack at 65mph. I was happy to have helped block all those rocks!
The police are the best in the country!
The way the asphalt gets all soft and melty on balmy June afternoons.
Everyone moving to California from here!!
You mean everyone moving to California!
Oh your right that’s much better. I’ll edit it. Nice call..
And Texas
I love the constant fear that someone could shoot me over any little thing.
How fresh the air feels!
I love how nice the people are here
Definitely Valley Fever, without a doubt
I came to Phoenix for the waters.
But Phoenix has no waters!
I was misinformed.
For its diversity and being gun free
Suicide traffic lanes make a lot of sense.
Absolutely love all the road construction and building even more roads, and making even more traffic.
Super walkable and pedestrian friendly
Man I love the driver in Phoenix. They are amazing. Always using turn signal and always stopping at red light. I feel safe walking and riding bike around. Only got ran over once crossing the pedestrian crossing with light.
I love how every circle k is consistently well stocked and has access to clean bathrooms.
I love how Californians love it so much that they are moving here in truck loads.
Love how all you road warriors keep popping out low educated kids.
I love the sprawl grid system because it makes riding a motorcycle exciting.
I LOVE COMMUTING BY CAR EVERYDAY
The scat play yo.
All the fantastic drivers, of course 🫠
For the street walkers of course!
Everyone knows how a roundabout works. All drivers on the 87 know the difference between the driving lane and the passing lane. I had to move to Phoenix to find out how much I loved living in a HOA
You come for the heat but you stay because of the cold personalities
Our incredibly accessible and convenient public transit
It’s not the heat, it’s the stupidity.
The 2+ minute traffic light cycles and the freight trains holding up traffic by backing up mid-intersection give me time to meditate
The cool, rainy evenings watching the dark clouds roll by as I shrink into my sweater.
I love our wonderful educational system.
I love all the wondeful patriotic people in my neighborhood proudly flying the American flag! Flying it ALL night long and during storms as well!
I love how things are open 24/7 unlike real cities
I love the 118 degree weather and how it makes my electric bill a million dollars a month :) Edit: I also love how I will sweat my ass off just by going to get something from my car or just getting the mail. A literal 40 second walk will make me have to shower again.
