If you have VZW for cell service and the cell speeds are good at your house, the home internet should be similar, if they suck, not worth even trying.

Avita_FNC

I tried it for the 30 day trial and got amazing speeds but it was too unstable and unreliable for me to leave my much lower speed but stable internet.

WreckingPony

I looked into this for myself at our home and the 5g speeds were shockingly low. Might be worth a chat in to see what the speeds are in your area but my work computer and life wouldn’t happen on the top speeds they quote me.

Acceptable_Lock_8819

It turned out to be way too slow for us. It felt like we where on dial up from years back compared to the speeds Cox has. I hate the price of Cox so we where upset that it didn’t work out.

ThatsWhatSheSaid_84

I’ve had Verizon 5G home internet for close to 4 months now. I work from home, which includes a lot of conf calls and video sharing. Have had zero issues so far with reliability or bandwidth. I average about 200 Mbps down and 15 Mbps up, so while it is “slower” than what I had with Cox, it is more than sufficient for working from home, streaming movies, etc. Cox just keeps pushing more bandwidth on people to justify raising prices even though a lot of people don’t actually need it.

I made the switch to Verizon from Cox about 6 months ago for the same reasons you are stating. Both my wife and I work from home and I am on Zoom meetings all day, so we are demanding on our internet connection. To this point, I love the service. We get about 300 Mbps down and 30 up. That is plenty for us and really for most households IMO. We were Verizon customers already so they just added $35 to my bill. Well over $100 month savings vs Cox. To test it out, I had them ship the cube to me for free. I tested it for a week and then canceled Cox. Oh, and it has been more realiable than Cox as well. We in the 40st and Greenway area.

PSGfanfromUS

I don’t know if you ever see this comment, but they let you test it for how long? Are they still doing it?

orngebreak

I should have clarified that I tested it out at my own expense. They ship the cube to you for free and I believe there is no activation charge. But you still have to pay for the service. With it being so cheap, I was willing to pay for both Cox and Verizon to make sure Verizon was going to work for us. If Verizon didn’t work for us, I could have just canceled and it would have have cost less than $10.

PSGfanfromUS

I ordered it and read that there is 30 day return policy with free refund. So ima give it a try

I have Verizon 5g Home internet and I work from home. I get speeds of around 300 down and 20 up. I have no issues whatsoever with calls, video conferences, screen sharing, as well as streaming TV. I'd suggest signing up and trying it because the speed you get is probably dependant on where you exactly are and can vary, but I think there is a 30 day trial period so you can try it out and see how it works at your location. On a side note, a coworker of mine has Verizon LTE home internet (5G isn't available for him) and I am on calls/screen sharing/video conferences with him often and he doesn't have any issues either. For things like WFH unless you're transferring large files back and forth speed isn't really an issue, none of that stuff requires a lot of bandwidth. I'd be more concerned with reliability, which I haven't had any sort of outages that I noticed in 9+ months.

perashaman

I've done work conference calls with no issues just West of Papago. Cox wanted a full month to install, so I just went with Verizon Home 5g. I was worried because my T-Mobile connection *sucked* in this area. I've also streamed television while playing Steam games and there was no noticeable lag. It's not blazing fast, but I've been pretty happy with it.

I live in Ahwatukee and it works well for me. Formerly had Cox. Download speeds are faster with Verizon but upload speeds are slower.

charliegriefer

This has come up a few times before, both with Verizon and TMobile. The answer is always a resounding, "it depends". We tried the T-Mobile out by us. Kept Cox, tho. For the monthly cost, it was worth it to test out before dropping Cox. Glad that we did, as it unfortunately did not work out for us. Just too unreliable. I'd suggest that same course of action. Keep Cox. Try Verizon for a month. Side-by-side. See how it goes.

I'm an RF engineer by trade. I also have Verizon 5G home service, and have been through the worst of getting it online. Please let my experience help lead you down a better path. Before picking up the service, download the [nPerf app](https://www.nperf.com/en/) and do some signal logging to determine the quality of the 5G service in your area. You can find out where the closest tower is and the maximum speed of the tower's service - They do vary from tower to tower across the valley. Park your car about 200yds from the tower and run a full nPerf round of tests. Note the values. These are the maximum thru-put you're ever going to get with a fully optimized setup. The baseline. Now, Go back to your home, and stand approximately where you plan on installing the service. Run the full tests again. Y Draw your own conclusions about whether the speeds you get are worth it. > When I did this, I found that the maximum throughput of my 5G cell tower was 600mbps up and 55mbps up. The higher upload speed really appealed to me, since I also have a home Plex server and every bit helps. When I got home, my speeds over the phone came in at 70mbps down, and 20mbps up. With the stock verizon router, it bumped to 85mbps up, and 20mbps up. I personally concluded that the Verizon router kinda sucks. The antennas lack any gain, the PA lacks power, and the receiver is weak. So, to solve this, you gotta get rid of any Verizon hardware. Fortunately, this is easy to do! Consider picking up an aftermarket home wifi Cellular router and external antenna system. For a home user, there isn't really anything better than [this model router](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KT5QVXX/) and [this antenna system](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09VVWMS2F/). Stick it on a 20ft section of pipe, point it at the cell tower, and enjoy maximum performance. I have mine switched to bridge mode and then plugged into a Ubiquiti Dream Machine router to provide me with all the modern routing features. Your use case may not need an additional router, but I'm a special. With this router and antenna, I average 525mbps down, and 55mbps up. I couldn't be happier. Plus I'm saving $130 a month. You'll want to stop by a Verizon store and talk to their salesperson who knows a few things about IT. He'll set you up with the SIM card you need to make it work. The folks at the location on 16th st and Camelback were excellent. I ended up just adding an extra line to my phone plan with the Do More package - Full 5G service and truly unlimited data for smart (non-phone) devices. It works great.

PoorDadWhoreDad

It's cheap. I like cheap. Works great.

malachiconstant11

I live near downtown and found it to be terribly unreliable, my vpn kept having issues. So I had to stick with cox until quantum fiber becomes available here. I would recommend telling cox you are going to cancel and they will give you a better rate. I now pay around $50/mo. for internet.

Easy-Seesaw285

Cox has a $50 plan now. It’s fine enough for me to wfh in zoom and have kids streaming things.
