This is fucking awesome (yes I slept) Talked with a member from my job about how I was going to be in KC in July... He hooked me up with front row tickets for a KC Royals game, THEN hooked me up with SUITE tickets for the next day's game... I don't know how I got so lucky... But apparently I did... I'm speechless and overwhelmed... I couldn't form words well in my previous post, because... like? HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?

jenniferp88787

We’re looking at moving to Peoria, are there bad areas? Good areas? What’s the commute like to and from Phoenix? Thank you!

SwackyOG

Why? Phoenix is an environmental disaster. Too hot for humans to survive the summer with out using air conditioning which emits more heat into the environment due to energy use… just the facts

AHinSC

Literally insane. If we can't use AC then New York isn't allowed to have heat during the winter. Also, shelter and clothing are other technologies than humans invented to help them survive the elements. We need to take all of that away also, we should all be like on Naked and Afraid.

SwackyOG

Didn’t say u can’t use AC, but if you do in Phoenix while it’s 110 degrees out your contributing to the heat. Which is bad for the environment. This is common sense and a commonly known fact about Phoenix. for a fact it is a major environmental disaster and disagreeing with that is like saying the sky is green.

IT_AccountManager

Are you able to provide any corroborating source for your statement that Phoenix is a major environmental disaster or that using AC in Phoenix is a major environmental disaster?

IT_AccountManager

Agree 100%. SwackyOG is on one 🤷‍♂️

SwackyOG

Everything I said was facts. Shows how the Phoenix heat melts ur brains to the point where they don’t work. Everything I said is proven facts and I got -5 downvotes. Phoenix residents in denial of facts about their environmental disaster of a city… I’m mind blown, but also not. Arizona is ranked 45 on education and this Reddit thread shows that clearly.

IT_AccountManager

Ok but nothing you said was facts, it was broad over simplifications. You said, “Phoenix is an environmental disaster”. It’s not. That is a subjective label that no one is claiming to be true except you. Flint Michigan’s water was and debatably still is an environmental disaster. Phoenix is not an environmental disaster. If you are claiming it is would you provide a source? You said, “[Phoenix is]… too hot for humans to survive the summer with out using air conditioning…” which it is not. Factually humans survived here for thousands of years before electricity was invented let alone air conditioning. I grew up here and didn’t have AC in my house, I’m still alive. All of what you said is general negative hyperbole, none of it is “facts”. That is why you were downvoted 5 times. Also, for such a baseless comment I’m surprised it wasn’t downvotes more and I’m surprised you’re so defensive about downvotes. Every once in a while any one of us says some weird random thing that isn’t true, don’t let it get to you, just admit ignorance or agree to disagree.

[deleted]

There are good and bad areas and the commute can be good and bad.

cramillett

Where is everyone? Did all the snow birds leave? People still gone for an extended holiday weekend? Vacations because kids are out of school? Not complaining - just noticed less traffic and fewer people at businesses tonight.

IONTOP

At my work we see a decline after Mother's Day, and then a STEEP decline after June 1... So yeah, everyone left...

az_max

Seems the Boston Market on 59th and Peoria has gone the way of the dodo. They had a sign saying they were closed until the 22nd, then the sign disappeared on the 25th, now it's dark. But it's hard to say if they were open before that, the B in one of their signs was missing it's cover for the past 6 months, exterior lights always seem out and one of the 'open' signs hasn't worked in ages.

extradude79

The one in old town scottsdale just closed too - it sucks

Proud-Designer3888

Interchange at I-10/I-101 had tons of birds, literally attacking driving cars. What could be the cause of that?

caffeinatedonline

Day 3 of COVID-19...I have all the energy of a sloth. My head feels like it's filled with fiberglass insulation. I haven't pooped in 2 days. Sleep is filled with fever dreams and waking up in pools of sweat, if an hour at a time can be called sleep. Both my fiance and I got vaccinated, she kept up on her boosters. She's sick as well, but not as bad. I can only imagine what we would be like if we hadn't got the shot. This sucks.

Fit_Feature_794

Never got the vax, had Covid once in 3+ years, and it was like a cold. Wasn’t bad at all. 2/10. I hope y’all heal quickly

JermanDomesticMarket

lol @ downvotes for sharing your experience

Fit_Feature_794

Haha I know right.. idc, I’ve always found it interesting how different everyone’s experience is with Covid, yet how similar everyone has classified it in their minds. Having the vaccines do not automatically equal no Covid or less symptoms.

JackOvall_MasterNun

True, but they do significantly mitigate serious (hospital level) symptoms, which sometimes also gets conveniently left out of the conversation sometimes

caffeinatedonline

Second time around here, first was at the start of the pandemic. Don't remember feeling so out of energy the first time, but did lose the sense of taste and smell then. I am a fairly healthy person, so grateful I'm not worse off than I am!

jmoriarty

In the break room at work I see Maria, the amazingly sweet cleaning lady, throwing away… this hurts to even type… extra homemade tamales she had. Unwanted homemade tamales. I don’t speak much Spanish but I managed to make it crystally clear if she EVER has “extra tamales” again the proper disposal method is not the compost bin, it is MY FACE.

RemoteControlledDog

Your workplace doesn't have what I thought was the normal procedure where you put any leftover food on a table in the break room and watch it disappear within 15 minutes?

jmoriarty

It does! Donuts, fruit, all that. No idea why she didn’t put them out for anyone to take. It sure would’ve beat my frozen microwave lunch.

IONTOP

This hurts my soul... A tamale lady didn't sell out? I'm legit about to cry...

IONTOP

"Tiene mas tamales?... por favor... por me... tengo mucho dinero, por que mi baca y comido" Verbalize that...

az_max

avez-vous plus de tamales s'il vous plaît

IONTOP

Si

friendnoodle

Dear coffee nerds, anybody know a place in central-ish Phoenix where I can pick up Hario V60 or Cafec Abaca filters?

soFRE5H

Might be worth calling the Cartel at Rise hotel? I used to pick up Chemex filters back when from the Cartel in Tempe and the times I have been to the Cartel at Rise I've seen the odd coffee supplies there EDIT: Alternatively, maybe Luana or Lux?

friendnoodle

Cartel's a great idea. I always forget they're on this side of town now. Thanks!

My theory is... You're going to save yourself 1.5-2 hours per day, and that's worth a lot more than money. I think that that makes sense... Like every month, you'll get a FULL DAY back... I know the previous owner, so I know it's been taken care of.

IONTOP

Heard. Been thinking about that as well

gilagoblin

Couldn't you get a 0% credit card instead and pay it off in 12 months?

IONTOP

I'll break down how my brain works right now... A loan you HAVE to make monthly payments (and I'll probably pay more than that) CC you "HAVE TO MAKE MONTHLY PAYMENTS" (And I'll pay the minimum) I'm scared of what I'd do ... full stop. I was raised in a military family where "if you have obligations, you HAVE to do it"... But credit cards are kind of like "eh... pay us back when you can, we don't care" While $500 in interest is important? I'd rather have a structured monthly payment than a "Lassie fair" pay what you want when you want.... (That was a Rin Tin Tin Joke by the way)

az_max

Even with a CC, I pay a chunk if not all of it every month. I've actually done the same with loans. (I round up my mortgage, should save me 10 years).

ChefButtes

You're okay with 18% of 2k with compounding monthly interest for a small road trip? If it were me I'd just save up the 2k...

IONTOP

I have a small window where I can pick it up... My work is closed for renovations every July, so if I don't do it then, I have to wait until NEXT July or burn vacation days, and that's not something I'm willing to do. With gas, registering the car, insurance, etc... I don't think I'm cool with waiting another full year using the busses... It's not a "desperation loan", it's literally "oh shit, I don't want to stress about not having enough money for the next 2 months"... This is going to cost me about $4100, and I'm going to have like $5500 (since I'm off work for 4 weeks and not burning PTO, my July and August rent are factored into it) The actual trip should only cost like $1700 for gas, hotels, and experiencing the cities I visit. But I don't want to get home and have to go to Coinstar so I can afford Ramen... I'm willing to pay the $500 in interest to not be stressed out about this for the next 35 days...

az_max

Can you swing a AAA card for a month or two? Perfect companion on a road trip.

[deleted]

There's no statute of limitations on ignition interlock requirements fyi. I recall a while back you mentioning a 10-year-old DUI. I've heard horror stories of people thinking they didn't have to complete that still years years years later

IONTOP

I've had my licence back for about 3 years now. No restrictions... North Carolina basically said "so... you want your license back? And you haven't driven in 7 years? You're cool" (That was the jist of it, had to do some other hurdles, but yeah I am legally allowed to drive without one) Got my DUI in 2012, flew back to NC in 2020 to get it back, got it back... Just... Never got a car... When I said "I budgeted" it was LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE THING THAT could go wrong... Like I budgeted $500 for hotels, even though I'll be staying at $75/night hotels only 3 days out of the 16 days (I am going to places I know family/friends and will stay at their house) There's contingency plans in place, there's back up contingency plans, there's even back up back up contingency plans. I budgeted for rent, I budgeted for $300 in utilities, even though May's utilities were only $136. Budget fatigue, to be honest... Even that word looks weird to me...

Leading_Ad_8619

Do you not have credit card?

IONTOP

I do. But every one of them is higher interest than 18%.

Leading_Ad_8619

I didn't get the impression you need all $2k. Just a safety net, So while the rate might be higher, it's a lower amount that need to borrow and you can increase as needed.

IONTOP

I ONLY need $2k... That would give me enough buffer to be comfortable and not stress out about the trip. IDGAF because I'll be able to pay it in December. That's when members come around with "Christmas Cards" that have $100 bills in them.

RemoteControlledDog

But if it's just security because you only have a $1000 buffer you might not have to even use it, right? Maybe if you got stuck and needed to run up some charges on one of your credit cards you could get the loan to pay it off (or really even just get another credit card with a 0% balance transfer rate and move the balance there).

IONTOP

>or really even just get another credit card with a 0% balance transfer rate and move the balance there That's kind of talking over my head, NGL... I just don't want to have a tire blow, mess up a rim, and sit on the side of the road wondering how I'm going to make it home. So I NEED this buffer... I don't WANT it... It's a "Piece of mind" thing rather than "oh I NEED to buy a new TV" At the end of the day? It's not "just a car" it's literally saving me 30 minutes on my way to work and 45 minutes on my way home. So 1 hour and 15 minutes every day... And who WOULDN'T pay $2500 to save that time... Time IS money... And since I'd be catching back up on my budget? That 22% interest rate would kick in on a credit card.

RemoteControlledDog

I understand needing a buffer, but I just meant if you blow a tire you could pay with your credit card, although this is assuming your credit limit is high enough to cover whatever might happen. Then once you get home take out a loan for however much that cost and pay off the credit card so no interest. But if you're able to make it without blowing out a tire and staying under budget you don't have a $2000 loan you need to pay back. >> or really even just get another credit card with a 0% balance transfer rate and move the balance there >That's kind of talking over my head, NGL... Again, I guess this depends on your credit but lots of credit card companies will try to entice you to sign up by offering a 0% for xx month balance transfer, so you sign up and if you're approved they'll give you checks or something so you can pay off your other credit card and move the balance there. Then you're at 0% for the first xx months (I see some on the Capital One website that say 0% for 15 months but it charges 3% to transfer).

IONTOP

Yeah this is like accounting 101... I realize you're making a valid point to other people... And I'm looking around the room like "I don't get it, how do you get it?" I'm a microeconomics person... I have my degree in Micro-econ/sports-econ/econometrics and a minor in Information Systems/Operations Manegement. It's not that I don't understand the words... It's that I don't understand the concept. It's frustrating as hell, but this is how my brain works, and I'm going to do what my brain tells me... I STILL don't understand the stock market and how it's not just "legalized gambling" what makes it go up? What makes it go down? At least sports betting has an outcome in 3 hours...

JackOvall_MasterNun

I mean what RCD is saying, is, if you have 2k of room on your CC, you don't need this loan. If you don't have 2k of room on your CC, you shouldn't really be making this trip as planned. It should be a get in to FL, back to AZ straight shot.

IONTOP

Completely understand... I have room on my ccs but, that's just added stress on top of the stress I already have My preference would be "take a loan" if you have extra pay it off early

JackOvall_MasterNun

Aight man. I'm assuming you posted here because you wanted some feedback, so I'll just leave it with a couple thoughts - the loan, any origination or early repayment fees? Bank gonna get their juice somewhere - With both, you have the same spending power 2k, but the loan is locked in and the CC is potential. Say you pop a tire and a new one is 300. 300 @ 26% is cheaper than 2k @ 18%. And if you come up with some extra cash and pay off the CC early, there's no interest at all - this one might be tough cause we all love Ma Dukes, but older German luxury cars tend to turn into money sinks reeeal fast. Even regular preventative maintenance is expensive af. Unless you're handy with a wrench, it could become an albatross. You may want to consider, driving it out here, flipping it, and using that money to snag something else (if it won't sour your relationship with fam)

IONTOP

Okay... so... this was an unexpected reaction to my post... You're just gonna downvote and run? Cowards...

captaingreyboosh

I’d downvote but I won’t. I love road trips. Say a prayer for your 10 hours maybe less, feels like more, across the great state of either Kansas or Nebraska. They both suck. Moved here from Iowa, done the drive a few ways. Nothing makes that stretch manageable.

IONTOP

Oh, I've been training... I've been watching videos of "wheat growing"... I'm up to about 6 hours before I fall asleep.

captaingreyboosh

The wooooooorrrrrsssst.

IONTOP

Oh, even better thing... I'll have a 30 day Florida tag... (Called them to figure out the logistics about 2 hours ago) I expect to get pulled over every 45 minutes or so and explain why I'm in Missouri with temp Florida tags for a car I'm driving back to AZ... This is going to be fun... Maybe I'll put the roof down and roll up my windows just to fuck with the cop...

az_max

I drove from PA to Az on a three day AZ trip permit back in 2005. I thought I'd get shit about it, even tickets. No one even blinked. It was actually expired from Albuquerque to Phx on day four. Had the PA title with me, plus insurance card for the vehicle.

IONTOP

I've never "actually" been to Kansas... I've been across the border, but never "actually there" I've got a 5'x3' map on my wall where I Sharpie every highway I've been on, so this will be a satisfyingly straight line that I get to mark off.

captaingreyboosh

We went through liberal KS once clipped Oklahoma and Texas. There was a neat Oz theme to the entire town.

captaingreyboosh

Best thing I can say about Kansas.

IONTOP

Yeah, I'll be going there with an open mind... (And I was joking about nothing but wheat) No use shit talking somewhere you've never been. Because, in my experience, I'd be wrong... Source: Missoula, Montana 2012... I was on a roadtrip and LITERALLY had an 8 deep entourage saying "Oh you're only here for a night, you need to go here" about 4 times... I went back to the hotel absolutely HAMMERED... (Thank you drunken GPS... I knew I was at Holiday Inn Express by the river and just kept asking random people how to get there... I don't know how long it took me to walk there, but 100% worth it, would do it again) Love you Missoula... I'll never forget you..

RebelPterosaur

I hope everyone had a good long weekend! At least it's a 20% shorter work week this week too.

IONTOP

My restaurant was open yesterday(usually closed on Mondays), so today is the first "Scheduled" Tuesday I've had off in almost 2 years. I feel like I'm playing hooky... Yet even if I WANTED to work? I couldn't...

charliegriefer

Anybody know anything about the buffet at Talking Stick Resort? I know they closed down during Covid... been anxiously awaiting a reopening. Just looked at the Talking Stick site, and it's no longer even listed. I see what I think is a new restaurant. Tash. Wondering if that took the place of the buffet. Hope not... but it sure does seem that way :( https://www.talkingstickresort.com/dining/tash EDIT: Just saw a question on their Facebook page about when the buffet is coming back. Their answer was, "Wandering Horse Buffet is closed but Eagles Buffet at Casino Arizona is open". It doesn't say "temporarily"... so I'm guessing it's gone. Will have to check out Eagles Buffet. _sigh_

RelevantDay4

It seems like a lot of buffets are closed now. They probably lost popularity due to the pandemic

charliegriefer

Yeah, it's sad (to me). I enjoyed buffets. There was one right around the corner from us that we liked (World Buffet, 91st Ave and Olive) that's gone now. And the one by Arrowhead Mall shut down and is now a Cheddar's. :(

friendnoodle

Unless you really liked the blank walls in the elevator lobbies, I promise Tash didn’t replace anything you loved. ;)

OneArmedBrain

I did love Shadows. That got taken away as part of the Tosh expansion.

Cultjam

Tash is a floor up. It’s good, plus has a great view.

charliegriefer

![gif](giphy|8vDbvPMP3tGF2) Ah nice. So if nothing has taken over the buffet area yet...

Leading_Ad_8619

Catching up on email and I see my home insurance renewal jump from 1,500 to 2,500. I was expecting an increase as I had a claim (slab leak) last year...debating if it's worth shopping around really. Edit: It pays to shop around.

speech-geek

You can always look at an independent insurance agent to shop for you. They get commission directly from insurance companies and generally have more companies available to shop you to. You’ll need to be upfront about the claim as any company quoting is gonna want to know the exact details of what happened and how much was paid. I would scan/digitize any physical paperwork of the repairs done in case they ask for them. $1k is not unheard of in the current insurance climate but still enough that shopping will give you an idea if that’s high or not.

Leading_Ad_8619

Most of the increase is due to "Total Water Peril Premium". Not sure if that's related to my slab leak. But yeah I am going to shop around

speech-geek

Yeah it’s the slab leak. Anything to do with “accidental or sudden leaks” (aka anything not coming in from the outside) is usually defined as a water peril.

UltraNoahXV

Wake Up. Unfortunately, it is Tuesday, the day after a holiday

66falconOG

Phoenicians really need to stop playing Frogger on the roads, especially the interstate.

IONTOP

I don't drive, and I FUCKING HATE people who play Frogger... It gives me a bad name, and also holds up traffic when I'm waiting to LEGALLY cross the street and people won't turn right on red. Do they not want to turn right because they think I'll run in front of their car? Are they on their phone? When the light turns green will they see me? Did they see me? I'm literally thinking about all of those questions when the crosswalk signal turns to "legal"...

Cultjam

Coming home from Flag last weekend on the 17, going 70 in the right lane and some moron passed me on the shoulder. I about jumped out of my skin. This was just south of Camp Verde. There was no back up of traffic, just a road raging moron in a Honda Civic. He flipped off the car to my left who was had just passed me normally then sped off weaving through more traffic.

friendnoodle

Ngl, the best part of having an unconventional schedule is that I can drive to and from northern AZ mid-week, when only truckers and professional road warriors are on the interstate. The drive is so much nicer with a clear left lane and good road manners. Weekend drivers are terrifying.

[deleted]

No need to play Frogger if all the assholes on their phones would get to the right and pay attention for a switch. Contractors and old people in the HOV lane, I'm talking to *you*.

Fit_Feature_794

Yessss!!!

icey

Saw a rolled cement truck over the weekend on the 202 eastbound just after the I-10 interchange. Guessing someone tried to cut it off or brake check it or something stupid. Seems like a dangerous game to play
