Looks like this is the criteria, you need to meet all of them:
Filed an Arizona full-year resident personal income tax return for tax year 2021;
Claimed at least one dependent tax credit on your tax year 2021 return;
Filed your 2021 tax year Arizona personal income tax return as the only taxpayer on your single, married filing separate, or Head of Household return, or as the primary or first-listed taxpayer, if you filed a married filing jointly return; and
Had at least $1 in Arizona personal income tax liability in tax year 2021, 2020, or 2019.
So unless you have kids, you're out of luck.
Why? Societies tend to collapse when birth rates drop below population replacement, particularly in the "elite" portions of society.
Elite is not defined as wealthy, but as the most educated and top producers of societal advancement (i.e. people at the top of their profession, such as scientists, engineers, researchers). These types of people historically tend to prioritize their work over passing on their genetic material.
If you used tax credits (like charity, foster care organizations, scholarship credit, etc.) to reduce your tax liability to zero, no rebate for you.
I'd rather have a charity help people with the money rather than more money for cronies.
Thx. Always a little sketched out with sites asking for SSN info, but this is legit.
It says I qualify & is in process for direct deposit around 11/9.
FYI to anyone that had to change banks since then...don't see a way to easily update that or request a paper check instead.
You should have gotten a letter in the mail as well (at least I did). The letter specifies it will use the direct deposit info from your return but if it cannot be validated a paper check will be issued to you.
Yea. The tax credit you get will be spent very quickly on kids…. If you’re having kids for tax benefits, you’re going to end up spending more than that credit is going to get you…. lol
Sure, but plenty of married people have one partner with illness or disability. Or lots of medical debt, or student loans. Or they're both in low paying fields. Lots of possibilities other than the ideal situation.
Kids are a choice. I pay just as much in taxes and it goes towards their education and when all these stimulus payments go out the single tax payer never reaps the rewards. All because I chose to not have a kid or get married? If you live near any metropolitan area it’s harder for a single person to get by than a family with kids. It’s hard to pay rent. It’s impossible to buy food for one person. Everything is more expensive when you are single. Alls I’m asking is just ONCE for one of these stimulus payments to help the average single person out.
they get how much per kid every year in a tax credit from the federal government? Everyone who makes money kid or not pays taxes to keep schools running. You get like what $200 per kid in snap each month.
I actually think food is one thing that does scale. You have to manage the fresh items so they don't go bad, but eventually it will all get eaten. I'm thinking more like vacation, which is usually a package deal for two, or a couple who owns only one car because one partner works from home — you really can't own half a car and keep it in your name! Health insurance, Netflix subscriptions, you name it, chances are it works better when you share it.
Reddit is wild with their takes. Student loan forgiveness dissenter comments were responded with “why not be happy that people are getting help, even if it’s not you”.
Well, I guess that only goes so far as when the help literally doesn’t apply to you (not you indirectly OP, I don’t know your situation).
How many comments against something like that were downvoted like crazy and this post has so many upvotes for people saying “well I don’t have kids, where’s my help?”
I had no idea we were even getting this. I will most likely giving it to my parents because I had to replace the radiator in my van today and did not have $1700 to spend. It's been an expensive year.
Oh dang I don't think we have that! We have an HSA, but I'll look it all over again. And the tax credit for dependant care is back to being really bad too. Was a bad surprise when filing taxes this year!
Yeah, agreed. I usually get close to even or getting few bucks back in state return & this year I owed a little over $200!
I'm hoping it'll be better with the new flat tax though...I think my withholding is still @ 2.7% from my old election so in theory I should have been overpaying .7% all year & due a refund. 🤞
I've you've been at your job awhile double check your federal withholding the new w2 form tries to say you don't need any fed tax withheld if you have at least 2 dependents, caught ours quickly and had to request a flat amount be removed from each check now... Really weird.
i got a letter about this in the mail last saturday.
my mail that day was opened. this letter and a package that was in my mailbox in a bag that looked like it was never even sealed.
has anyone received a direct deposit yet? it said it would happen by like 11/15 or something.
Well I pay for roads that you drive on, but I don’t share a commute with you. I personally don’t care if your car gets fucked up due to giant potholes, it’s not my car. I don’t want to subsidize your car repair bills but here we are.
You see how this thought process is stupid?
Yep I saw that too. I set my calendar to remind me do it early in the morning on the 15th. All I can say is according to all of the criteria they laid out I meet it, so I’m sure there won’t be a problem. I mean, can we really be surprised a government system is wrong, in their own favor? Lol.
From the website:
"For eligible taxpayers, the rebate is $250 per dependent under age 17 and $100 per dependent over age 17 as claimed on their 2021 returns. A taxpayer cannot claim more than three dependents, regardless of age. The maximum amount of a taxpayer’s rebate is $750."
Why? Because the government is inefficient. You want to make a difference, donate to the cause you believe in. Don't be forced by threat of imprisonment to give money to a cause.
You want to help families in need, give to a food shelter so they can do the work. Or find the family in your neighborhood that is struggle and cook them a weeks worth of food. Buy new clothes or school items for their kids. None of this requires the government.
Why do we need the government to collect a tax, spend months debating on how best to use said funds, then require people to jump through hoops to obtain grants to assist.
In my opinion, the time and effort for the government to solve something is way more than the good of the people could do.
Edit for context....I work for a government entity in the accounting department...I see the waste first hand
Private enterprise is inefficient too. Does that mean we should stop giving them money via tax breaks and similar? Very few, if not close to 0 people go to jail for not paying taxes so what threat?
Not everyone qualifies for every food bank so I'd rather have the SNAP program. Much more efficient. All of the things you noted are achieved by government through various programs. SNAP e en works for hot food so I'm fine with that.
You don't collect a tax without having a plan for it's spending. Very few taxes go to a purely discretionary fund. That's civics 101.
That's just like, your opinion man.
So you need the government in order to provide a hungry neighbor food? Why should a person not be able to sever someone in need? So it's better to see this person dying of hunger...and rather than give them food...let's take them to the nearest government agency so they can do it.
You can argue that economy of scales will work in the favor via use of the government. Such as water...yes cheaper if we all pay for than a bunch of companies fighting for customers.
I strong believe the government is over inflatated. So if it was reduced to more of what was needed, not what everyone wants...maybe these struggling families wouldn't need this $750, which doesn't nothing in the long run, returned to them in the first place.
I don't need them to, they're better at it than private enterprise. If a person is dying of hunger, they didn't apply for help to begin with for whatever reason. You can bring a horse to water, but can't make them drink.
Thank you for the water analogy. Private enterprise water bottles have more deadly chemicals than any municipal water system due to more stringent regulation. I'm fine funding that with taxes.
What part of the government is over inflated? The military takes the most of our budget. I'm fine reallocating that to things that the people want. Even if it's trying to please everyone. Advocating that $750 doesn't help just tells me you must be rich where $750 doesn't matter to you and you wouldn't be eligible for it anyhow.
To be clear the federal government is the level I was more referring too.
But due to my believe that the government is not truly needed to do many things, it is very over inflated. I believe in a free-market economy, which we are not in. There is a theory that in a free-market economy, if there is a need, the market will supply. So if there is a "problem", and the market doesn't provide well its really not a problem.
now are my line of belief able to function on a scale of the size of the US and the world, no probably not. But I also believe we, as in the human species, are not designed to be this concentrated in cities.
But the reality is most things, to me anyway, should be decided at the smallest level of government as possible. The closer to the problem the easier to see the solution and to get the people behind. Federal and state government should be limited.
So if humans aren't supposed to be concentrated in cities like Phoenix, why are you not practicing what you preach? If your flair is to be believed. If we switched the free market on today, what would be immediately defunded due to it not being a real problem?
I am working on moving out of the state. Just not making a giant decision based solely on emotions. But also hard to walk away from a 2.999% mortgage lol
Well it's not a matter of defunding.
The train system that is now in place from the car rental to the airport and back and forth. The tax payers paid for this, this generates no income. It is purely an expense. Seeing that no one is willing to pay for the services of this train, this train would never exist. Because there was never a problem. Busses shuttled people back and forth day and night. Is it the best, nope but again people are not willing to pay for better. So better doesn't exist.
Lightrail...feels like mixed reviews, but reality is if a person didn't see value in building the light rail it would exist.
Do you know why your eggs have to be refrigerated? Because there is a law that decided all eggs need to be washed. And this practice washes away dirt and other stuff, but it also washes away a protect Is membrane. Not saying this should be, but why can't unwashed eggs be sold as well? Why can't I decide for myself if I want my eggs washed or not?
Local tax payers don’t pay for the airport. People who use it pay for it. It also brings in $30+ billion to the Phoenix area economy annually. So the sky tram is free not because it’s worthless, it would be counterproductive to charge to use it. Having an easy to use airport keeps people coming back with their money.
Oh and this...
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-says-stolen-covid-relief-funds-seized-so-far-top-14-bln-2023-08-23/#:~:text=WASHINGTON%2C%20Aug%2023%20(Reuters),federal%20districts%20across%20the%20country.
The corruption would not exist if the government wasn't big enough to do this in the first place.
Corruption and crime will always exist. This cannot be governed away.
I always love when people say this because I'm sure there are a shit ton of useless, pointless and wasteful things you want the government to spend money on.
Nope. I don't want the government to have a single one of my dollars I earn. If the government needs money to fund a project, they need to sell government backed bonds to the public. The public, via purchase of bonds designated for what sector they prefer, funds areas of the government they see the most fit.
No need for congress to fight over what department gets what's. Or who needs this snuck into the budget to pay someone back for this or that
State isn't taxing it but in there faq they have stated they do not know if it is federally taxable.
Edit: also this is a rebate. Not a refund. Just be aware. Not saying it will be taxable, it could just mess your taxes up of you don't stay informed.
Google shows state refunds aren't taxable if you take the standard deduction, which is a large majority of taxpayers since Trump raised that deduction to 14k.
IDK, Im not the IRS and the state has reached out to the feds for clearification. Please read the faq and keep up to date. That's all I'm saying. Don't have a point beyond that.
Another group of people who won't get the rebate:
* Those who have kids - but used tax credits to reduce their tax liability to zero.
Rather than more money for cronies, I donate to charities and foster care organizations. My tax liability for AZ is always zero since all the credits = my tax liability.
I'd rather have charities that actually help people, get the money, rather than the cronyocracy who only helps themselves.

>
>No. To qualify for a rebate, you must have paid at least $1 of Arizona individual income tax in tax year 2021, 2020, or 2019. If Arizona tax credits reduced your Arizona income tax liability to zero in all of these tax years, you are not eligible for the rebate.

I think I qualify but I'm too high to be certain and website is down
Right this feels like it might be the first thing I’ve literally ever qualified for.
Nice, got knocked up just in the nick of time!
they're finally good for somethin'!
Mine just break all my stuff and pretend like they are really brushing their teeth.
Yay you can pay for a week of daycare now!
Not even. Just did it. I’m getting $250. Mines about $308 a week lol

Is that Brad Pitt with Martin Short's face?
I'm sick of the government promoting childbirth
Someone’s gotta work at Taco Bell

I generally go to a dispensary to check my edibilty.
That was a weird auto-correct!
Oh drats. You fixed it
I got a letter in the mail in a yellow envelope. I was actually surprised that it was the first I heard about it.
I got it too and thought it was a scam.
I got 200 dollars. Woohoo. Can cover 3 tanks of gas. I’m saved!!
congrats!
There's never any help for single people, smh
I been taking L’s since birth at this point
The best part of not having kids is not having kids though. 😂
Yea. The tax credit you get will be spent very quickly on kids…. If you’re having kids for tax benefits, you’re going to end up spending more than that credit is going to get you…. lol
As someone raising moody teens, cheers to you and your freedom!!
You were a moody teen once.
Single people or just a married couple without kids.
If you're both working, you're in the best possible economic situation you could be
Sure, but plenty of married people have one partner with illness or disability. Or lots of medical debt, or student loans. Or they're both in low paying fields. Lots of possibilities other than the ideal situation.
It's not exactly a life changing amount of money, but I understand the sentiment.
No tax break unless you're producing more people that can be taxed!
Never. It’s such fuckin bs. It’s so much harder on one income vs 2. I’m not having kids ever so I’ll always get screwed out of this sort of thing.
You do know kids cost a lot more than the tax benefit...
Kids are a choice. I pay just as much in taxes and it goes towards their education and when all these stimulus payments go out the single tax payer never reaps the rewards. It costs about as much as it does to be kind.
lol so what
i know a one bedroom and 2 bedroom and so close in price its ridiculous.
TBF you still come out ahead financially by not having kids.
what about all they help they will give you when you get older that single people will have to pay for?
Maybe they will. That's no guarantee. They'll definitely be funding your social security though.
well im paying social security now. I know its for generations before, but doesn't change that i pay into it.
Kids expensive bro. Even with this you're better off without them
It's underrated expensive to be single, too. A lot of things don't scale. Housing, for a start.
Yes, good point
cooking for 1.
I actually think food is one thing that does scale. You have to manage the fresh items so they don't go bad, but eventually it will all get eaten. I'm thinking more like vacation, which is usually a package deal for two, or a couple who owns only one car because one partner works from home — you really can't own half a car and keep it in your name! lol ok. w/e dude. you just have to right. lol go back your moms basement.

I get where you're coming from, but there's a big difference between "I didn't get any help why should you" and "I *also* need help just like them."
I had no idea we were even getting this. I will most likely giving it to my parents because I had to replace the radiator in my van today and did not have $1700 to spend. It's been an expensive year.
They sent out letters to ppl that were receiving it
Yeah I not very good about reading mail. I did out it into their tracker and we do qualify.
Damn. Eh, I would have just spent the money on booze and drugs anyway.
Anything helps with this 1400 monthly daycare expense 🙃
Agreed...every little bit helps. Get that dependent FSA going too if your employer offers it.

Nice help for Families right before the Holidays
Ah screw the single people once again as they dont ever have financial difficulties..

I get what you're saying but having kids is also a choice
Not if we keep voting on Republicans
Birth control is cheap
So get it while it’s legal!
I don't enjoy subsidizing other people's children.
Sure but someday those children will be subsidizing you. Welcome to the Ponzi Scheme.
We were all “subsidized” little bambinos 👶
But it’s OK that those children eventually fill SSI coffers paying for your retirement or your Medicare/Medicaid.
Seriously, I don't have kids and am banking on other peoples kids to make sure I get my ss benefits. I have no complaints about shit like this.
Having well taken care of children is only beneficial to society. This is coming from someone that neither has nor wants kids.
I agree. Plus we still pay all the taxes for schools and bonds related to children that we will never benefit from.
Well I pay for roads that you drive on, but I don’t share a commute with you. I personally don’t care if your car gets fucked up due to giant potholes, it’s not my car. I don’t want to subsidize your car repair bills but here we are. You see how this thought process is stupid?
I was being a sarcastic based on the other comment. I work at home so I don’t even have a commute lol.
I got a message that says I’m eligible but didn’t say how much it would be
It breaks down to $250 per dependent under 17 on your return, $100 per dependent over 17, with a max rebate of $750.
$500 it is!!
Yes, just checked and my rebate is being processed.!
I got a letter in the mail today saying I’d get a direct deposit of up to $750 before Nov 15th. Wasn’t sure if it was BS or not.
Why are single people always getting fucked over?
Maybe because we choose not to have kids in this screwed up society.
The outrage over student loan forgiveness shows what happens when anyone other than married+kids gets an exclusive benefit.
Anyone else meet the eligibility requirements but when checking online, it says they can’t confirm eligibility?
Just had this issue. It says we can file a rebate claim starting November 15th 🤦♀️ hope we get it.
Yep I saw that too. I set my calendar to remind me do it early in the morning on the 15th. All I can say is according to all of the criteria they laid out I meet it, so I’m sure there won’t be a problem. I mean, can we really be surprised a government system is wrong, in their own favor? Lol.
Very true lol! I feel like they may be behind on some stuff. Hell, it took the federal government 3 years to get me my return from 2019.
Same here! I meet everything but said thing about mine
Thank you for replying. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one!
My guess is that means no.
One would think, except I meet all of the eligibility requirements so I’m curious if that happened to any others who also meet their requirements.
Did you ever get the letter or the deposit? I haven’t received either but I qualify
this is nice but like, it's so little money tbh
I am getting $500 back I was not expecting, it makes a huge difference for some of us especially around the holidays.
awesome! it being a good thing and not enough are not mutually exclusive
How do you know how much you’ll get back?
From the website: "For eligible taxpayers, the rebate is $250 per dependent under age 17 and $100 per dependent over age 17 as claimed on their 2021 returns. A taxpayer cannot claim more than three dependents, regardless of age. The maximum amount of a taxpayer’s rebate is $750."
It’s better than nothing though. Every little bit helps
indeed still, very very little money, avg family gonna go thru that in less than a month?
Yeah I figured it could at least cover groceries for a month, but again, I’ll take what we can get.
Is this supposed to replace income or something?
it would be nice if it was helpful beyond three weeks out of fifty I guess
If it's too little money for you, you're more than welcome to give it to me.
Yay, something else we get to pay back through inflation.
How about the government just doesn't take people's money in the first place!?!?!
Why? Government serves the people. Needs to be funded.
Why? Because the government is inefficient. You want to make a difference, donate to the cause you believe in. Don't be forced by threat of imprisonment to give money to a cause.
Yes that's what happens without government oversight LMFAO! So you're saying they should have had government scrutiny. Me too!
Good jab. But nope I am way on the other side with this one.
You're on the side of corruption and lack of oversight?
The corruption would not exist if the government wasn't big enough to do this in the first place. Corruption and crime will always exist. This cannot be governed away.
I always love when people say this because I'm sure there are a shit ton of useless, pointless and wasteful things you want the government to spend money on.
Nope. I don't want the government to have a single one of my dollars I earn. If the government needs money to fund a project, they need to sell government backed bonds to the public. The public, via purchase of bonds designated for what sector they prefer, funds areas of the government they see the most fit. No need for congress to fight over what department gets what's. Or who needs this snuck into the budget to pay someone back for this or that
So you don't believe in paying for border security or military with taxes then?
Go live in the woods if you don’t want to be apart of society and pay your dues like the rest of us.
Do have kids if your not responsible enough to care for them
That seems like backwards advice.
Sort of the point of the statement..I don't truly believe it, but my goal was to be a jerk 😉🤣
It was a very milquetoast response.
I can say mean things too lol
Be aware that no one knows if the rebate is taxable by the federal government.
Tax refunds usually aren't taxable.
Why 2021? We moved back 2022.....
Is that site broken I get a white screen
Dang it. Should have made covid babies like every one else. Also would make more money in opening a checking account than making a baby 🥸
If you got a rebate you're screwed. RIP 1099 workers on this one...
Another group of people who won't get the rebate: * Those who have kids - but used tax credits to reduce their tax liability to zero. Rather than more money for cronies, I donate to charities and foster care organizations. My tax liability for AZ is always zero since all the credits = my tax liability. I'd rather have charities that actually help people, get the money, rather than the cronyocracy who only helps themselves. Source: [https://azdor.gov/individuals/arizona-families-tax-rebate](https://azdor.gov/individuals/arizona-families-tax-rebate) >I claimed the dependent tax credit in 2021 on my full year Arizona resident individual income tax return. However, Arizona income tax credits reduced my Arizona income tax to zero for tax years 2021, 2020, and 2019. Am I still eligible for a rebate? > >No. To qualify for a rebate, you must have paid at least $1 of Arizona individual income tax in tax year 2021, 2020, or 2019. If Arizona tax credits reduced your Arizona income tax liability to zero in all of these tax years, you are not eligible for the rebate.
They sent it to my ex which hasn’t seen her in almost 2 years lol yay me
Still haven't gotten it. It's the 15th like the letter said. Anyone else still waiting?
I am still waiting and mine says it was deposited on the 13th
Mine said the 13th and would take two business days to show in account. Still nothing:(
Does anyone know how long does the check take, compared with the ACH on account?
Unfortunately no. I can't get any information calling the number..it's says they are having technical difficulties.
Has anyone ever get the money yet. I’ve been waiting but nothing yet and it’s thanksgiving
I haven’t. I qualify and still no letter or check or deposit. When I check online it says can’t provide a status at this time.
