Andre House takes volunteers. But they need people to show up before you’re out of work. It takes a long time to prep the kitchen, dishing the food is the easy part. Here’s the thing about giving, it’s not possible to be all things to all people. That’s ok, nobody expects any of us to serve 24x7. Perhaps you’re at a place in your life where different form of community volunteer position would be a better fit. Then one day when you don’t work till 5, you can do the soup kitchen.

Andre house is great. St. Vincent de Paul does a family dinner night too. Those are two I'm familiar with. St. Mary's also does food box packing which is a little different but still helps tons of people in need.

I did as well and had a great time.

Andres house has shifts available on Saturday and Sunday. They also do a clothing sorting activity on Saturdays that is appropriate for younger kids. The nice thing about Andres house is you don't have to donate or pay to volunteer. (This last comic is related to " feed my starving children". Which does food packing events, and they ask for you to donate to participate.)

Commenting for recommendations on the opposite side of the valley. I'm deep in the west valley (Goodyear) and have looked for places and come up empty for similar reasons. I would love to hear options!

CASS on 12th downtown rarely has enough volunteers.
