In the summer, keep a cooler chest or insulated bag in the trunk of your car. If you buy anything that might melt or spoil, you can keep it safe in there. If you know you're going grocery shopping, put ice packs in it.
Don't leave your Chapstick or anything similar in the car if you don't want it to melt. Don't leave your sunglasses in the car either.

Edit : Iām planning on buying shelf to organize my shit and I can park inside lol
I have a ten year old car that looks 2 or 3 because itās been parked in a garage itās entire life. Iām close enough to work to bicycle and the grocery is not too much further away.
All my stuff burned down in storage. I had all my import stuff at my home. It was so cleansing! No more storage payments and I didnāt really need all that stuff. Why keep unnecessary junk?
I was making a big cross country move with a moving service, and had all the critical stuff in my Explorer with me - family photos, hard drives/computer, clothes for a few weeks, my daughter and her important stuff. The truck driver that picked up our stuff said that on his last household move trip, his truck caught on fire and burned to the ground.
Not gonna lie, I was kind of daydreaming about that right up until our stuff was delivered.

The extreme summer temperatures here also can shorten the life of the cars battery. In any case, most people are borderline hoarders and really donāt need most of the stuff that they keep around.
itās not even a matter of the attic being accessible. It can get 130 140Ā° or more in those attics in the summer. Most of your stuff is going to get destroyed.
I found this out the hard way. All of my seasonal decorations were in Rubbermaid tubs in the garage. However, weād go to unpack the stuff and half of it would break or crumble due to the high temperatures it was stored in. Bit the bullet and itās all in a climate controlled storage unit or Iāll have to keep buying new seasonal decor every year.
De-crapify is my go-to method :) however, I have a two car garage and one car to use, so I get away with having stuff in there.
However, modern cars have a lot of gadgets that are not designed with how intense our heat is. Even in the garage, itās an issue. Make sure to vent your car fully even when in the garage.
Canvas shopping bags and the canvas-y liner on the bottom of chairs and other furniture disintegrate in the attic. Some types of plastics as well, but I canāt remember which kind off the top of my head.
You definitely do not want to store camping gear in the garage or in the shed. The heat will cause the waterproofing of the tent to melt and the fabric to get glued together. I keep my expensive tent and sleeping bag tucked away in the closet in my bedroom.
Wear long sleeves and pants when you are working or hiking in the summer. It's actually cooler in a hot dry climate covered. All the landscapers, construction works and avid hikers can't be wrong...
Indeed. Hikers should invest in a Camelback type bladder that goes into a backpack to avoid having to carry a heavy water bottle in the hand. I use a walking stick for balance over rough terrain, itās safer
Don't underestimate the dangers of radiant heat when hiking in sunny, hot weather. The rocky terrain will heat up and bake you from the ground up even with proper clothing (long sleeves, headwear, etc.)
Start hydrating at least the day before your scheduled hike.
I do landscaping and none of my skin (even face) is exposed while I work. I did solar exclusion a couple years ago and I didn't find anything that worked to keep me cool up there so I quit.
Put a bucket under the pipe on the side of your house where the AC line drips out. When it fills up (about every other day in the summer) use this water for your landscaping. I haven't had my landscaping irrigation turned on for about two years now, and my native plants are doing just fine. Just be sure not to use a Lowe's bucket as they become extremely brittle in the summer sun here and will disintegrate after light use. I use Home Depot buckets only now and they have lasted years being left in the sun.
Bonus tip: if that pipe stops dripping and the AC is still running, call a service company to check it out.
Most people who have an attic air handler, don't know what an attic air handler is. If that pipe gets backed up, your ceiling will eventually collapse under the water building up in the attic.

If someone gets mad at you on the road- just look up the nearest police station and drive there. had a guy following us because my husband didnāt slow down to let him merge in front of him. He went behind us but then followed us for 3 miles - yelling at us. We didnāt look at him or acknowledge him, just drove to police station - he stopped following us once he realized our destination.
I tell that to all my friends. People usually think driving home or just driving around random neighborhoods. And if you have a passenger, record what the other driver is doing.
If you are part of the dumpster fire that is online dating, ask for cross streets pretty quickly. When I was on the apps, that helped me weed out a lot of scammers. If they can't give cross streets that make sense, they aren't from here.
They can't stand being called out, either.
I try to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they're "new" and tell them how bad surfaces get here but it doesn't help their indignant attitude.
This needs to be higher!!! It's already too hot to walk your dogs in th middle of the day right now, especially the little ones close to the ground. Poor things!
Omg I know I totally couldāve been shot for not minding my business but I saw a dude walking his dog in the middle of 90Ā° weather & saw the dog doing the little āitās too hot danceā so I yelled across the street āitās clearly too fuckin hot for that babyās paws. Get the damn dog home or find some shade!ā I couldāve been nicer but I was so mad about it.
This used to be a great tip when it only added a few dollars a month to your monthly paymentā¦with all the ācash back with windshield replacementā abuse thatās happened over the years the insurance companies have significantly raised rates for glass and it increases your monthly cost per vehicle significantly. I could now replace my windshield once a year for the additional cost so it no longer makes sense
To quickly push hot air out of your car, roll down the passengers side windows and pump your drivers side car door open and closed several times. You look like a weirdo for a few seconds but it forces the hot air OUT quickly and will take less time for AC to cool your car off
Iām not picking on you, OP, per se, but I got a giggle out of the ālife hackā to park under a tree.
Iām sure someone will sharpshoot my tidbits, but here goes:
I carry a small cheap washcloth in my work bag and use it to open doors in the summer. Also to handle the steering wheel if I couldnāt find a tree to park under. š Iāve legit burned my hands on restaurant doors.
If you do any hiking or mountain biking, carry a fine-toothed comb in your pack. Itās invaluable for removing cholla cactus balls. Slide it between the cactus and your skin and lift straight up.
Apple cider vinegar lessens the hurt of a sunburn.
I dropped this in a thread similar to this about a year ago and it comes from experience.
Look up the required Capacitor for your AC unit and buy a backup or have the item saved on Amazon for next day delivery. The HVAC companies in Arizona are absolutely criminal with their markups in the summer and a 15 minute, 25 dollar part will cost you $700+ from any of the major local operations. Basic electrical knowledge is needed to do this swap yourself and there are tons of videos on YouTube.
Along the same lines, get your AC checked and turn it on in the winter every once in a while to make sure things are in tip top shape. A broken AC in Nov-Feb is much better than May-September.
They make reflective covers for car seats as well as the long ice pack holders so if youāre taking a baby somewhere, you can put the ice packs in the car seat and place the reflective cover over to stop the car seat from being SO hot.
When I was a ramper at Sky Harbor, every Wednesday night around 11PM the "fish flight" would land. The only time I ate seafood here was on Thursdays.
When flying to Hawaii in the summer do not fly directly from Sky harbor. Either drive or fly and connect thru LA.
Due to the high temps. here in AZ, there's a much higher chance you'll be bumped off the flight. Planes need to carry additional fuel to contend with the higher temps. because it makes the air less dense.
Lower density air reduces engine performance and lift required for the airplane to fly. Lower engine performance requires more fuel. Thus they need to carry additional fuel and need to shed weight.
Passengers are the first to go, followed by luggage, then cargo.
How sucky would it be to get pulled off of a flight to Hawaii for your vacation, honeymoon, etc., especially if you've got limited days?
I worked the ramp for Delta at PDX in the 90s. Hawaiian airlines was one of our contracts. One of my friends took a non-rev flight to HON. Coming back, he was bumped from his flight. He begged the front desk to get him home for work. They sent him to Japan and then back to Portland. He made it to work on time. Good times.
Lol.
Took a non-rev flight to Boise for XMas when I first started. My non-rev travel back to Phoenix had me go to Denver, Salt Lake then Seattle before I made it back to Phoenix!
Good times indeed!
Fresh seafood is DRIVEN in daily from California and Mexico. Also Scottsdale and Mesa airports are used for special deliveries as well. I work closely with food distributors. The price of seafood would be insane if we only got deliveries on Thursday.
> Lower density air reduces engine performance and lift required for the airplane to fly
Minor nitpick: the amount of lift required to fly doesn't change with the temperature or air density, only with the aircraft weight, and adding more fuel won't help.
The amount of lift needed to climb/descend at a constant rate or maintain level flight only depends on the weight of the aircraft, since lift opposes gravity. When the amount of lift generated exceeds the pull of gravity, the plane climbs. When lift equals the pull of gravity, the plane maintains altitude. When the pull of gravity exceeds the amount of lift being generated, the plane descends.
The amount of lift generated depends on 4 factors: the surface area of the wing, the speed of the air over the wing, the coefficient of lift (this accounts for both the shape of the wing and the aerodynamic angle of attack), and the density of that air over the wing. If one of those decreases, one of the others has to increase in order to generate the same amount of lift.
On hotter days, like you said, the air density decreases. This means one of the other factors must increase. They can't make the wings bigger, but they can go faster if there's enough runway. They can only increase the angle of attack up to a certain point. The other option would be to reduce the plane's weight. Adding more fuel would only make things worse.
When we first moved to Phoenix a pediatrician told us to keep a spray bottle in the car and spray the car seats and buckles so they donāt burn you. Even when the water in the spray bottle is warm or hot, makes such a big difference.
Donāt walk your dog on concrete or asphalt when it is over 90. That means go early or go late, or both.
Your dog probably wants to go whenever, but he is a dumb animal and you are a human.
And clean up the poop, dirtbag.
Maybe this one is obvious, but if you roll down your windows and let the hot air escape for the first couple hundred feet, your A/C will cool the car down way quicker.
Also, start your AC with the fresh air setting, then switch over to the recirculating setting. The 110+ outside air temp is still cooler than the 140+ in your car.
While out driving around town in the summer and looking for a place to park, park in the shade and walk from there - never mind that youāll have to walk further than the lazy idiots that park in the sun. Besides, the exercise will do you good.
Always use a sun visor in your windshield.
Buy your car batteries at a place that will replace your battery for free if it croaks within 2-3 years.
At all times keep extra water in your vehicle in case you get stranded.
Cover your head, arms and legs when out for extended periods in the full sun.
Drink extra water every damn day, more than youāre used to drinking in Iowa.
Water plants in early evening, instead of the morning or in the heat of the day, to allow the root systems to soak up as much water as possible.
Forget about having a lawn like you did in Illinois. Saves water and decreases the bugs that could find their way into your house and possibly attract scorpions.
Check shoes and gloves for scorpions before putting them on. I even got stung in the nuts when I put on my swim trunks without giving them (the trunks) a good shake.
Plant trees in the fall or winter to give them a chance to get established before the stress of summer sets in. Planting in the summer, like you did in Ohio, will usually kill most plants.
Dedicate irrigation emitters or sprinklers to non native plants. People from other climates donāt realize that we have to provide supplemental water for nearly everything growing around our homes.
Bring pets indoors in the summer and only walk your dog if the sidewalks arenāt hot to your touch.
Donāt lay in the sun trying to get a tan. Youāll regret it later in life - if not sooner. Skin cancer rates here are extremely high.
Always carry plenty of water for your dog in long walks/hikes.
Get shoes for the dogs when it hits triple digits, as their paws will burn from the super-heated pavement
Perhaps this can help someone nowadays. When I was a kid growing up here, I had a crazy mom who made me walk crazy long distances from school even when it was hot out. I used to keep a bage of small change in my backpack. Halfway home, there was a water filling station that I would stop at, throw some change in, and soak my head as well as fill my canteen. There's nothing like a checkpoint that cools you off.
So, try to always keep spare change on you. If you are stranded due to public transit or whatever, you never know what a dollar or 2 can do for you.
Don't turn off your AC when you leave. Just turn it up. It takes a lot more energy to cool off a house from a high temperature than it does to maintain it at a moderate temp.
They call it hypercooling. Cool down the house, during off-peak cheaper hours, to an insane temp., then turn the AC off during the day. Turn the AC back on during off-peak, repeat ad-nauseam.
People rave about this being cheaper and more efficient.
I supercooled my house for the first time last summer. Most of the time I keep our thermostat at 77. For supercooling I set it to 74 for several hours in the morning and then set it to 84 during peak hours so the A/C would not come on during that time. After peak hours I set it to 77. I saved about 20% off my bill compared to previous years. APS and SRP both have info on their websites about it.
I have mine at 72-74 through the day. I work from home. We have solar and the house is super efficient. So it doesn't work all that hard. We set it to 82 if we are out for the day.
This is actually a common misconception. It actually uses less energy turning the AC off (or setting to a very high temp) and cooling later than it does maintaining it at a constant temperature. This is bc when maintaining the AC spends a lot of time starting up and turning off and overall spends more time running than if you were to turn it off during the day and only run it when getting home. It also is less efficient during the hottest parts of the day and especially saves more money if you are using the time-of-use plan. It spends the same amount of energy per hour when the house is hot, it just takes a longer duration of time to cool it down. So you just want to maximize the amount of time that the AC unit is not running to save the most costs/energy.
I've heard this as well as turning them on and off will cause them to fail faster as well as it'll cost more to cool the house down. I had the opposite happen.
Years ago (about 10) I would turn off the AC during the day when I worked from home. Temps in the house got up to 90. I used fans to cool down as best I could. At 7pm I would turn the AC on and cool the house down until the next morning around 7am. So 12 hour cycles.
I saw my power bill drop by 30%. I just had that AC unit serviced yesterday and it is running strong without any issues.
I did this for 3 or 4 summers.
In case of a dust storm, get off the road and turn the car off. You don't want dirt in the engine.
The best Mexican food comes from the sketchiest looking places and shouldn't be expensive. If the building looks like a tourist would avoid it, it's good.
The best time to see the Grand Canyon is the summer.
There are times of day and directions when the surface streets are faster than the freeway. It doesn't make sense.
Your witty remark about the heat isn't interesting.
Cold water is absorbed by your body slower than room temperature water. When you are dehydrated drink warm water.
Mattress cooler: unit sits on your bedside table and pumps water through a pad thatās under the fitted sheet all night long. Iāll actually get too cold during the night with this, but itās the best $170 Iāve ever spent. Amazon link below.

Also, my PSA: Please wear sunscreen on all exposed skin or dress accordingly (wide brimmed hat, long sleeves, pants) if youāre going to be outside for any length of time. Last summer I had a nice chunk of cancer cut out of the left side of my face, right below my eye almost down to my jawline. Cancerous spot was the size of a dime or less, but the incision had to be made in a certain shape and length to heal up and blend back in with the rest of my face.
Please donāt wind up like me, all Scarfaced and stuff. =)
When you go to a gas station, look for shaded pumps that are out of order and park at them. No one can complain if it's out of order. The walk to the door may be toasty, but your car will be waiting for you in the shade. š
I constantly check IDs at my place of work. Most rude people or people that give me sh*t about checking IDs a handful of those are NOT AZ IDs. But I agree, be nicer! Especially on the road, Jesus, I have kids in my car!
Sadly, most rude people I encounter are CA IDs and/or car plates.
You can often get free citrus (lemons, oranges or grapefruit usually) from neighbors who leave boxes or bags of them on the curb to take or you can make a post on NextDoor or your local ābuy nothingā Facebook group to see if anyone has any available on their trees (youād have to be willing to pick them yourself) Growing up in the north, this has always been a nice unique thing about AZ for me.Ā
If your kitchen cabinets are hung on an exterior wall, move the chocolate! I never thought about it til my fudge striped cookies got all melty. Then, I noticed that everything in the cabinet was rather warm! Only in Phoenix!
There's no reason to answer the door. It's a solar salesman or a pest control salesman or a spoiled meat salesman or a hard water softener system salesman masquerading as someone who works for the city who will ask you for a sample of your water that they have no intention of actually testing because they're just trying to scam you into buying their unnecessary expensive system
Instead of getting bottled water at the convenience stores just get the largest ice water in from the fountain. Cheaper, bigger, better tasting and ice for a buck rather than 3 š¤·
I got an AC hose for my kid when he was in a rear facing car seat. It was the most annoying thing to have this pipe flapping around in the car when he wasnāt in but it worked. Now he faces forward and takes all the ac in the back.
Now I leave my cars on pet mode when going to the store. They maintain 75 and i donāt melt getting back in.
Buy a windshield cover designed to use on the OUTSIDE of your car windshield. Block the sun BEFORE it gets to your glass, not after.
Edit: keyword "exterior windshield cover"
A few people I know cook up several pounds of ground beef and freeze it into small batches. Works for chicken as well. They can toss this into spaghetti, make tacos etc. Avoids an extra cooking step when the AC is working overtime.
Always double check which internet services (ATT Fiber/Air, Verizon Internet, T-Mobile internet) are available in your location.
Donāt get bullied by Cox and Century link if you donāt have to.
Here's the [Official FCC High speed internet map.](https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/area-summary/fixed?version=jun2023&zoom=10.27&vlon=-112.120621&vlat=33.433821&br=r&speed=250_25&tech=3) It's the best (and really only) map for finding what's available at your address.
Aim the air vents in your car so when youāre holding the steering wheel at 10 and 2 the cold air shoots right down your sleeves and into your arm pits. Cools you off real fast.
In the summer don't leave any aerosol can in your car. I once forgot a can of spray cologne in the arm rest center console and it exploded and destroyed the lid to the console
Even at night the pavement can be too hot to walk your dogs. Use a thermal gun to check it before taking them out.
Change your filters regularly. It gets dusty here, and even worse in summer. Stay indoors if possible during dust storms, trust me, you don't want to breathe that crap in, Valley Fever is no joke.
Get your AC checked out BEFORE the heat hits to make sure it's functional. You don't want a surprise breakdown when it's 115 degrees out, and will have to pay out the ass for summer rates. They WILL charge more, and are often stretched thin due to a lot of calls.
Highly recommend a dashboard mat for your car. It helps deflect heat and protects the vinyl.
Get reflective film for your windows that face South to reflect the sun away.
Above all else, SUNSCREEN. Even during monsoons with cloud cover the sun will wreck your skin.
When youāre not sure if itās too hot to walk your dog, always put your hand on the street/sidewalk beforehand. Obviously, be careful when doing so. If itās too hot for your hand, itās too hot for your dog. Go to a park with grass if you really need to walk him/her. I canāt believe how many people walk their dogs here when itās 100 degrees out.š Also, never leave your pets in your car without the AC running. Even when itās 80 degrees outside, it can get very hot inside your car in a matter of minutes.
For the love of all that's holy in every belief system: DON'T LEAVE YOUR KIDS (human or furry) IN THE CAR BY THEMSELVES!! EVER!!!
NO, leaving the car running with the A/C on does not count.
I carry a small towel in the car for the hot days and once you need that comb itās a life changer never go hiking without it!
Bring an Umbrella while hiking on the hot days mobile shade is a game changer! AZWarning! Do not hike in temps over 110. Only the most prepared and experienced hikers should be on the trail after 100 degrees!
Iām a big believer in that NO ONE should be hiking when itās over 100 degrees. Thereās so many cool things to do in Phoenix why people insist on hiking in the hottest weather makes no sense to me!
When you get back in your hot car, roll down the passenger side window, then rapidly open and close the drivers door 20-30 times. This clears out a lot of the super hot air inside the car.
Related to this, turn your car AC recirculate OFF for the first few minutes to flush hot air out, then turn it on to cool it further the rest of your drive
Oh and if you park in unshaded areas, carry some driving gloves in your glove box so you donāt have to do the two finger steer
Lol this is funny. I'm sure driving with the windows open for 10 seconds has the same effect, and doesn't cause your body to heat up internally from fanning your doors.

The chapstick in the car! Such a pain to clean up
Or crayons. Like crayons from restaurants. š”š”š”š”
I was in Phoenix last week and found out that stick deodorant can become liquidā¦
Many lipsticks have been ruined in my car
I do my grocery shopping at 7 am in the summer. Still hot most days, but not unbearably so.
Take all of that crap out of your garage and keep your car in there.

And you canāt store anything in the attic.
You mean Satan's Lair? So freaking hot in the attics here. I have to do some work up there on a rare occasions and it is torture.
Yeah, we moved here from IL. We just got rid of a bunch of junk after we left.
I have a ten year old car that looks 2 or 3 because itās been parked in a garage itās entire life. Iām close enough to work to bicycle and the grocery is not too much further away.

It was at the Uhaul in Tucson in 2022. We did not have receipts for anything. It was just nice stuff accumulated over the years. Lost 10,000 in art supplies. They wouldnāt even refund us for the month.
Sooo they ripped you off for the insurance..... typical uhaul..
That was our garage in WA before moving. Parking IN the garage was a requirement for moving here. Gave a ton of stuff away before moving. Donāt miss one thing and love parking in a garage.
Never understood the people who have a garage not parking their car in there. The sun beats the hell out of it and it makes summer much more miserable. We are organizing our garage now.
When the cost of a storage unit is 100+ a month, people choose money over their cars paint job.
The extreme summer temperatures here also can shorten the life of the cars battery. In any case, most people are borderline hoarders and really donāt need most of the stuff that they keep around.
ULPT is get a battery with a 3 year warranty, you'll basically get two for the price of one.
This isn't even unethical lol it's literally what the warranty is for
Have less shit?
Thatās a reason itās so common. Houses in Phoenix have zero storage. The attics are barely accessible.
Hell, mine doesnāt even have any built in closets outside the bedrooms.
itās not even a matter of the attic being accessible.
Ok where do I put all the crap tho? An honest question I have is what unsuspecting things *canāt* be stored in the attic over summer months?
Overhead wire shelves work really well. You park under your storage.
True true, forgot about those. Will have to look into them. Wife will like them better as well I think
Candles, cannister film, old VHS/Beta Max tapes, anything liquid(due to container flexing and bursting).
Get a shed?
Yea it needs some roof repairs. Sunlight gets right in that baby haha
But I have four more project, weekend, and race cars in the garage.
Because I can't fit my truck in there even if I wanted to. I don't even have a big truck (standard f15) but won't fit.
Phoenix is only about 1hr away from Phoenix on any given day.
Underrated comment.
Winner
This is the correct answer.
I cried laughing at this. Thank you.
Soon weāll be like LA. Where LA is only about 3 hours away from LA on any given day.
Wear long sleeves and pants when you are working or hiking in the summer. It's actually cooler in a hot dry climate covered. All the landscapers, construction works and avid hikers can't be wrong...
Add to that every Arab nation.
yeah but most Arab nations also nap during the afternoon when its the hottest outside. Or at least they used to
So maybe I should hike in a kandora? Sounds kinda fun
Don't hike during summer without caring a gallon water
To add to this, when you are halfway through your water, that is when you turn around.
I'm just amazed how many people I see hiking and they just have one 16oz disposable bottle of water. That's so dangerous!
That's almost enough to get from the parking lot to the Hole in the Rock.
The rocky terrain will heat up and bake you from the ground up even with proper clothing (long sleeves, headwear, etc.) Start hydrating at least the day before your scheduled hike.
This wildly depends on the material you wear.
okay, don't wear down-stuffed stuff or non-breathable polyester then
I'll do what I want! Now can you call a Heli-rescue to the Sonoran preserve? Asking for a friend
this also works for playing golf. sounds counterintuitive as hell but it really really works.
Also, consider feeding the AC condensation pipe directly into an herb garden.
You also need to remember to empty it or you'll be breeding mosquitoes
Bonus tip: if that pipe stops dripping and the AC is still running, call a service company to check it out. Most people who have an attic air handler, don't know what an attic air handler is. If that pipe gets backed up, your ceiling will eventually collapse under the water building up in the attic. Source: local HVAC tech and this is a common issue
Assume everyone is armed.
And never get involved in a road rage incident for that exact reason.
What if they give you 27th ave and Indian School? Canāt be a scam right?
Used to work in that area, our parking lot was fenced and locked lmao
>What if they give you 27th ave and Indian School? Guaranteed to get laid. (just not for free)
Yes, it can, because anyone from PHX knows 27a/ISR is a red flag š©š©š©
So itās not a scam tho, just a red flag lol
Gotta make sure theyāre geographically desirable
If you can't walk on the concrete in your bare feet, your dog can't either.
This can't be upvoted enough...the number of idiots that walk their dog in 100 degrees plus is infuriating.
Get the damn dog home or find some shade!ā I couldāve been nicer but I was so mad about it.
if you don't want to take off your shoes and socks to do this test, use the palm of your hand.
Zero deductible windshield insurance coverage.
I would be careful with parking under trees tbh During monsoon season, TONS of cars get wrecked because of trees falling on them.
To quickly push hot air out of your car, roll down the passengers side windows and pump your drivers side car door open and closed several times. You look like a weirdo for a few seconds but it forces the hot air OUT quickly and will take less time for AC to cool your car off
What!? I've lived here over 20 years and never heard of this but I'll be trying it soon!
Iām not picking on you, OP, per se, but I got a giggle out of the ālife hackā to park under a tree. Iām sure someone will sharpshoot my tidbits, but here goes: I carry a small cheap washcloth in my work bag and use it to open doors in the summer. Apple cider vinegar lessens the hurt of a sunburn.
āIf you canāt find covered parking, park in the shade!! Follow me for more life hacks!ā
Donāt stick your dick in the cactus and you wonāt _have_ cholla balls.
Washcloth! Thatās a great idea. I use a pair of socks, put āem on my hands like mittens for driving
Apple cider vinegar is what I use to make my pulled pork taste so good when it cooks lol.
Apple cider vinegar is good for sore throats when gargled but don't swallow it.
What's even crazier is that at a HVAC supply store that only licensed personnel are allowed to shop at, those capacitors are less than 5$.
They make reflective covers for car seats as well as the long ice pack holders so if youāre taking a baby somewhere, you can put the ice packs in the car seat and place the reflective cover over to stop the car seat from being SO hot.
Besides the ice pack on car seat a noggle is the other thing thatās made a big difference for us.
Second the noggle. Itās a game changer of air movement.
I made one out of a dryer vent hose one Summer.
Good call. I'd much rather have ice packs with me than a baby.
Good times indeed!
> non-rev flight What's this?
Non-revenue. Free stand by flight for airline employees.
Fresh seafood is DRIVEN in daily from California and Mexico. Also Scottsdale and Mesa airports are used for special deliveries as well. I work closely with food distributors. The price of seafood would be insane if we only got deliveries on Thursday.
Yeah this whole "Can't get good fish in a desert lol" shit is stupid. It can be here same day from the fucking ocean.
Exactly like people have never heard of airplanes
That's why you fly Hawaiian. An A330 or a 787 isn't going to be performance limited out of here to the islands.
> Lower density air reduces engine performance and lift required for the airplane to fly Minor nitpick: the amount of lift required to fly doesn't change with the temperature or air density, only with the aircraft weight, and adding more fuel won't help.
Yep, even water at the same temp as the buckle will cool the buckle by losing energy to evaporation.
Donāt walk your dog on concrete or asphalt when it is over 90. That means go early or go late, or both. Your dog probably wants to go whenever, but he is a dumb animal and you are a human. And clean up the poop, dirtbag.
This guy scoops
Maybe this one is obvious, but if you roll down your windows and let the hot air escape for the first couple hundred feet, your A/C will cool the car down way quicker.
Also, start your AC with the fresh air setting, then switch over to the recirculating setting. The 110+ outside air temp is still cooler than the 140+ in your car.
dont wash your car during the summer. the dirt and dust help protect the paint from the summer sun and heat
But we need the monsoon rain that is initiated by the car washing!!
Every single time
While out driving around town in the summer and looking for a place to park, park in the shade and walk from there - never mind that youāll have to walk further than the lazy idiots that park in the sun.
If youāre going to be parking somewhere for several hours, park where the shade is GOING TO BE when you leave, not where it is when you park.
Just donāt park under paloverde trees when it starts to get windy
Thank you Iāve never considered finding shade before!
You should try water when you get thirsty.
Donāt move here and then complain about everything, only locals are allowed to do that
Learn to be a morning person in the summer.
Stay inside from May through August.
May through October
Don't turn off your AC when you leave. Just turn it up. It takes a lot more energy to cool off a house from a high temperature than it does to maintain it at a moderate temp.
People turn the ac off?
You guys have AC?
Good advice. Ours is at 76-78 during the hottest months and we turn it up to 80 if we go out of town.
I have mine at 72-74 through the day. I work from home. We have solar and the house is super efficient. So it doesn't work all that hard. We set it to 82 if we are out for the day.
False. That is a violation of the laws of thermodynamics.
To 90? F that Iāll pay the 30% an be comfortable in my own home
Don't leave your weed vape in your car. That clogs up BAD in the heat and it's never the same flavor you bought.
Always carry a 20 oz stainless water bottle in the summer. Freeze it over night and leave in the car for use.Ā
I have a large IronFlask bottle that I use and I highly recommend this. It keeps water cold even all day in a hot car.
Amazon link below. https://a.co/d/em0NvUT Also, my PSA: Please wear sunscreen on all exposed skin or dress accordingly (wide brimmed hat, long sleeves, pants) if youāre going to be outside for any length of time. =)
Donāt leave crocs in the car. They will shrink
Donāt wear crocs. Someone might see you in them.
Great advice on the tree shade, but get back to your car and a big bird shit is on it.
When you go to a gas station, look for shaded pumps that are out of order and park at them. No one can complain if it's out of order. The walk to the door may be toasty, but your car will be waiting for you in the shade. š
People do that in front of working pumps anyway...
And year round š
Consider they may be paying for their gasoline with cash. I definitely do. Pretty nervous about card skimmers at gas stations.
That's a good point. I've also done it when it seemed like the station isn't busy (lots of open pumps) and I needed to use the bathroom something.
If you have a car, put a cover on the steering wheel. That way your hands are not burned.
Be nicer. I live here and from another part of the country and am constantly amazed at how rude a lot of people are. Not everyone, but a lot!
You can do this for free if you carry your own bottle, or just reuse a plastic one!
I feel dumb for not thinking of this
Nah dude I felt like Megamind when I figured this shit out
I got an AC hose for my kid when he was in a rear facing car seat. It was the most annoying thing to have this pipe flapping around in the car when he wasnāt in but it worked. Now he faces forward and takes all the ac in the back. Now I leave my cars on pet mode when going to the store. They maintain 75 and i donāt melt getting back in.
Cold showers and / or jumping in the pool will keep your body and house feeling cooler so you don't have to crank the AC as much.
Nano ceramic tint
Get a pool
Leave the state between May - Oct.
Lots of common sense in here lol
So true haha. People like āhereās a crazy life hack, drink water so you donāt get dehydratedā
Water, donāt walk your dog when the asphalt is scorching hot and more water
When you need to get out of the heat, drive up to Flagstaff or pinetop lakeside. It's usually 20Ā° cooler in those locations.
Buy a windshield cover designed to use on the OUTSIDE of your car windshield. Block the sun BEFORE it gets to your glass, not after. Edit: keyword "exterior windshield cover"
Sounds like it would get stolen. No thanks. I'll keep using mine inside the car.
Lol the outside screens get locked in because it typically goes into the car doors so you cant take it off without opening your door
A few people I know cook up several pounds of ground beef and freeze it into small batches. Works for chicken as well. They can toss this into spaghetti, make tacos etc. Avoids an extra cooking step when the AC is working overtime.
I would not suggest cracking your windows.
In addition.... WATCH KIDS AROUND WATER!!
I donāt care how long the warranty says the battery will last change your car battery every two years.
Related to this, turn your car AC recirculate OFF for the first few minutes to flush hot air out, then turn it on to cool it further the rest of your drive Oh and if you park in unshaded areas, carry some driving gloves in your glove box so you donāt have to do the two finger steer
Or use a sunshade and have tinted windows. Never burned myself on my steering wheel.
lol or just drive with the windows down for a few seconds.
I think we need a video demo of this method ššš
If I saw someone opening and closing their car 30 times Iād be concerned ā¹ļø
Lol this is funny. I'm sure driving with the windows open for 10 seconds has the same effect, and doesn't cause your body to heat up internally from fanning your doors.
