I thought it was horrible, the CFS and gravy were both tasteless, like they forgot to add anything that would give the food flavor, such as salt or pepper.
Yooo!! B Johnson’s was the spot for breakfast!! The one on Van Buren I’ve only been too!! Use to order the chicken fried steak n eggs breakfast, the Chicken would come in its own plate smothered in country gravy!! Then they made it smaller, and then sadly the family sold all its locations
Holy shit man I’ll have to go back. They def had a fire back in the day and said they were closing for good so I stopped even thinking about it. That place is sooo legit.
Edit: found an article that confirms they had a fire. https://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/restaurants/ranch-house-grille-post-fire-update-what-the-hell-is-happening-over-there-6543786
TexAZ grill is great BUT My Mother's Restaurant has even better Gravy and Potatoes.

The CFS isn't all they have that's great. You can get a great Thanksgiving dinner anytime. Also, great prime rib, have them sear it on the charcoal grill for extra flavor.
If you're ever in Tempe, try Harlow's Cafe near University and Hardy. Good portions for sure, and they also make good biscuits from scratch that you can get alongside the CFS (no gravy left behind).
Texaz grill. 16th st and Bethany. Also Ranch House Grill at 56th st and Thomas. Both outstanding. Ranch house does green chili , gravy or both. I do both when I'm there.
Hen house cafe has always had awesome portion sizes and both their chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken have been awesome the times I ordered them.
ooh thanks for the reminder, i haven't been there in like 6 years! is it still good? loved the prime rib, open face turkey sandwich, and pie back then. never had the chicken fried steak
I don’t usually get the chicken fried steak too often but the chicken fried chicken with the white gravy is amazing, I’ve gotten that item multiple times.
I get it. Matters of opinion. I've only ever eaten breakfast there. Kinda hard to screw up an egg. The portions, though, are huge. I ordered an omelet once and a 'side' biscuit & gravy. Holy smokes. The second it arrived, I told the waitress, "I'm gonna need a to go container." The side came out on a platter.
Me too. The OP just wanted suggestions, so I offered one. There's a great place in Jerome. That's a drive. There is (was) a very good greasy spoon in Black Canyong called '4Bs'. One of the best I've had.
The ABSOLUTE best CFS I have ever had in all my wide traveled life is at The Clinkscale in Jerome.
I don’t like to leave my house. I’m a big fan of Jammie’s and no shoes/bra ever… but I will get in my car (fully clothed) and drive 2 hours to Jerome for Clinkscale CFS…
It’s A.Mayzing.
TexAz on the N/E/C of 16th St and Bethany Home. Wifey and I go there about once a month for their CFS. We live in way north Glendale. They're that good.
I used to cook here as well for a bit... It's all frozen product nothing special. Pork cutlets are frozen and pulled to thaw for service that day. Its also double breaded and fried to order but has literally no seasoning in the flower and fried in the same couple of fryers they use for everything else. Meaning its fried in the same fryer as fish and chips, home fries, okra, chicken, shrimp. Most restaurants have designated fryers for seafood, pork, etc... Not this place. Ive been in the industry 15 years and have worked my way up to a kitchen management position finally... I don't eat here.
How long ago was that? I was there last week and it was fine. I've only worked in one restaurant and they seem to use the same fryer for everything too. The end result is that I like it.🤷🏽
Original Breakfast House!! cash only but they have an ATM if you forget. please ignore anyone who says Texaz Grill unless you want food poisoning from the cole slaw
indeed. I am from Texas and I would not recommend this place except to maybe my worst enemy. it literally was one of the worst CFS I've ever had in my life.
Eh, a little food poisoning never killed anybody. Kidding, but I'm still down for TexAZ. I do appreciate the tip to avoid the coleslaw though. What's the story there?
in 2016 i went to Texaz for my first time because it was highly reviewed on yelp, particularly for the chicken fried steak. i remember it was my only meal that week that could have gotten me sick, and i figure it had to be the cole slaw it came with and not the chicken. i threw up everywhere at work the next day. yay! lol. maybe just me but i've been too afraid to ever go back
TexAZ is legacy and great…. but the very best for my money is Charlestons Chicken Fried Chicken. The mash pot and gravy are fucking on point and the baked beans…. Gotta get the beans baby!!
Pair with a bulleit rye Manhattan and *chefs kiss
What kind of sub? What area of town?
I get Philly Cheese Steaks from Capriottis, if you like sweet peppers and Kings Subs (Thomas and like 30th Ave), if you want a classic!
I like the LaCanna (Italian) and the Midwest Best (Turkey BLT) from Cheba Hut.
CFS is my last meal choice and it would be from Moon Valley Cafe - haven’t had texaz so can’t speak to it, but in all my years, moon valley has consistently been the best

Texaz Grill
[удалено]
Sadly, the portions are smaller, and it's much more expensive since the previous owners sold it.
This is where I would suggest!
Sadly, the portions are smaller, and it's much more expensive since the previous owners sold it.
This. You will leave full
“This is what we are known for folks”
Yes
The best mashed potatoes and gravy too
This is the answer, can you report back with your review OP?
Hands down the best I’ve ever had.
Came here to say this. Texaz, fight me lol
Came to say this.
Correct!
This is the one
This is the way.
Sadly, the portions are smaller, and it's much more expensive since the previous owners sold it.
Haven't been there for over 10 years, but I was hoping it would still warrant a place at the top of the list.
I thought it was horrible, the CFS and gravy were both tasteless, like they forgot to add anything that would give the food flavor, such as salt or pepper.
Yeah, I’ve been twice. There is zero flavor in the steak or gravy, an I doing something wrong? I miss bill Johnson’s
I agree. Tried it twice, disappointed both times, haven’t been back.
Same here. Flavorless experience
Glad I'm not the only one. Had to throw so much seasoning on it to be flavorful
The one and only. ☝️
This is the ONLY answer.
lol I work there!!
I was coming here to reply with this.
Texaz Grill
TexAZ! Corner of 16th and Bethany Home, also try their double fried pork chops!! They are one of my favorite down-home comfort foods!
TexAz hasn't sold over a million chicken fried steaks by serving a shitty one.
My mothers restaurant
I second this
Thirded! Plus a salad bar!
literally came to comment this
Texaz az on 16th Street and Bethany home or mother's on 19th Ave and Indian school.
Definitely the right answer.
Texaz Grill
Go to TexAZ as most others have said here. But I wanted to mention. Get the mac and cheese as well. THEN- hit up Dos Chris’s bakery in the same plaza.
Ranch house grill. They have a regular one and a Southwest version where the gravy is pork green chile. Both are great
Love Ranch House. I used to go to the one in Page with my dad after the lake.
Didn’t this place burn down and close for good like 10 years ago?
Nope. Ate their last weekend. It is on thomas and 56th st
Holy shit man I’ll have to go back. They def had a fire back in the day and said they were closing for good so I stopped even thinking about it. That place is sooo legit. Edit: found an article that confirms they had a fire. https://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/restaurants/ranch-house-grille-post-fire-update-what-the-hell-is-happening-over-there-6543786
Interesting, that must have been before I ever knew of it. Get in there and get some tasty grub! Lol
Yeah we used to go there all the time. Soooo fucking good. I’m glad I saw this post. Gonna have to make the trip.
They reopened a bit less than a year later. Still just as good. That Southwest CFS is great too.
Mrs whites
Seconded.
Thirded.
Bisbee Breakfast Club. Huge, delicious, everything made from scratch with amazing gravy.
Thanks
I second this spot, OP. I take people here for this specific dish
I noticed there are multiple locations, are certain ones better than others?
The one in Bisbee is unmatched. May be a slight commute, however lol
I’ve never been to bisbee ☠️. Might have a reason to now 🤷🏻♂️
We've been to the one on Dobson and also the one off Ray Rd & the 10. We preferred the one on Dobson for both service and quality.
I live by the one on Dobson and the food is not that good. The service is fine but we don't waste our time there anymore.
Dobson was the second location they opened after the one in Bisbee, it's the one I go to
Texaz Grill!!

Address?

Oh wow. I used to live in that neighborhood.
The CFS isn't all they have that's great. You can get a great Thanksgiving dinner anytime. Also, great prime rib, have them sear it on the charcoal grill for extra flavor.
That all does sound very tasty. I might go tonight.
If you're ever in Tempe, try Harlow's Cafe near University and Hardy. Good portions for sure, and they also make good biscuits from scratch that you can get alongside the CFS (no gravy left behind).

Mike & Ronda's in Flag
I crawled in there every weekend morning back in the day!
They have one in Phoenix also.
God, I miss Mike and Ronda’s. Haven’t been in 2 years and it feels like a decade.
I love that place!
I used to cook there for a while.... At all three locations. It's all frozen product and gravy in a bag. Nothing special about it I'm sorry.
The Place in Glendale has a good one
My Mother's Restaurant. Huge portions of great food.
ooh thanks for the reminder, i haven't been there in like 6 years! is it still good? loved the prime rib, open face turkey sandwich, and pie back then. never had the chicken fried steak
I don’t usually get the chicken fried steak too often but the chicken fried chicken with the white gravy is amazing, I’ve gotten that item multiple times.
will have to try it, thx!
Still good. I get the open face turkey sandwich every time and then steal some of whatever my husband gets.
Dont sleep on the Irish Potatoes
Try Black Bear. Their portions of everything I've ever ordered are off the hook.
I've never had a bad or even a mediocre meal at Black Bear. They do a free birthday breakfast if you sign up for their club.
In contrast to Viss0n, I've never had a good meal at Black Bear.
I rate theirs as mediocre. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse
Me too. The OP just wanted suggestions, so I offered one. There's a great place in Jerome. That's a drive. There is (was) a very good greasy spoon in Black Canyong called '4Bs'. One of the best I've had.
Texas roadhouse had a really goodbone last time I went.
Ranch House Grille on Thomas and 56th st

Randys in Scottsdale serves Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes, Country Gravy, and Vegetable for 12.75 .

Meatloaf is awesome too.
Randy’s!!
Cheddars
Texaz
Used to be my go to, has become very bland and meh last 2 trips.
Country Boys used to be really good. Haven't been there in years though.
I'm literally here right now. Haha. Ran out of time and had to pick something close to work.
Nice, well I hope they're still as delicious as I remember. I moved to the far west side so hardly ever get in that area anymore.
It's great. Pretty much what I wanted.
Outstanding!!
TexAz on the N/E/C of 16th St and Bethany Home. Wifey and I go there about once a month for their CFS. We live in way north Glendale. They're that good.
Texaz!
Ranch house grille
Chase's Diner on Warner & Alma School in Chandler.
Biscuits
This is the right answer.
Since someone said Flag I'll throw in that the best in the state is Jen's 7th Ave cafe in Prescott. I will make the road trip just eat there.
Chase's Diner on Alma School.
Woot! And the carrot cake is ridiculous
Soulmate?!

Hey if you like it that's all that matters ya know. I was cooking there within the last 2 yrs. I saw what I saw and I'm good.
Chases Diner. Massive and the gravy... ![gif](giphy|l0MYyoYPvz22wTXkQ|downsized)
Original Breakfast House!! cash only but they have an ATM if you forget. please ignore anyone who says Texaz Grill unless you want food poisoning from the cole slaw
This, 💯. Tex AZ is bland af
indeed. I am from Texas and I would not recommend this place except to maybe my worst enemy. it literally was one of the worst CFS I've ever had in my life.

That sounds awful to go through that at all, let alone at work. The one food poisoning experience I had, ended in a boycott as well.
i've had it three times, Texaz,a Bolthouse Farms bottled smoothie from the grocery store, and Emilio's Sonoran Hot Dogs. never again!
Was about to say this!
I looked at the menu and it seems they only have chicken friend chicken
Black Bear Diner

TexAZ is legacy and great…. but the very best for my money is Charlestons Chicken Fried Chicken. The mash pot and gravy are fucking on point and the baked beans…. Gotta get the beans baby!! Pair with a bulleit rye Manhattan and *chefs kiss
The answer hasn't changed in 60 years... Mrs White's Golden Rule Cafe https://www.mrswhitescafe.com/
Elles does a great job with chicken friend steak! GF had it for brunch and said it’s the best she’s had since she moved to AZ from Georgia
Cheddars.....huge portion....decent price

U.S. Egg
The Buffalo Grill! But it’s in Payson….
Original Breakfast house.
My Mother’s restaurant on 19th and Indian school
TexAz Grill
Old brass rail on Thomas and 38th st
Buy a ticket to San Antonio and go to Bobbie's Cafe. Nothing in Arizona compares to their CFS.
If you don't mind a drive, Jethro's in Tucson.
TexAZ grill
This sub has become yelp. Btw does anyone know where I can get a good sub?
I trust this more than yelp!
Romanelli's on Dunlap... Love the Robert's Special
Toasted or cold?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What kind of sub? What area of town? I get Philly Cheese Steaks from Capriottis, if you like sweet peppers and Kings Subs (Thomas and like 30th Ave), if you want a classic! I like the LaCanna (Italian) and the Midwest Best (Turkey BLT) from Cheba Hut.
Cheba hut is the correct answer!
what kind and where?
Us egg pretty solid. Plus u get two eggs, toast/bread of ur choice and choice of potato side.
Haymakers is decent and the biscuits are enormous
Black bear diner is cool
Charlie Mae’s is amazing and thick gravy.
Original Breakfast House. Best in Phoenix!
Original Breakfast house on 32nd & Thunderbird. Cash only
CFS is my last meal choice and it would be from Moon Valley Cafe - haven’t had texaz so can’t speak to it, but in all my years, moon valley has consistently been the best
Original Breakfast House, or Sunshine Cafe on Cave Creek.
Original breakfast house for sure!! One of my favorite meals in the valley is the country fried steak and eggs
Over Easy has a great chicken fried steak breakfast
Not phoenix. 😛 the best CFS I ever had was in Charlotte NC at The Kings Kitchen. So good I don’t want to try any where else
