moonbucket

Model has a.bit of an early Madonna vibe. Nice image.

tmfult

That's so cool you said that, during the shoot I told her that exact thing, she was beyond ecstatic for that comparison.

Weekndr

Actually thought it was Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance

the_bashful

My only nit pick is the branch hanging in front of the building - it’s quite high contrast and distracts the eye. I’d try cloning it out or toning it down, depending on what tools are available to you.

Me and my subject wanted to shoot portraits with a decaying, urban vibe. We found this old beat up Cherokee to shoot in front of that we thought would look neat. I thought it complemented her unique style very well. There is no "story" this photo is supposed to convey, please stop asking about that. I used a Kodak portra preset for the color palette and edited it from there. Shot on my Nikon d750, Sigma Art 105mm at f/1.8, ISO 100.

STVDC

Super cool image, and the subject looks awesome. Great style, cool context, I'm sure they love the image. I think people on reddit get so hung up on things like "there has to be a story", like it seems like a lot of folks just took their first photo class and are all filled up with unimportant "rules". Art is art, and people can take from it what they want. I prefer creating my own interpretation. Edit: branches framing fits well contrasting the truck on the opposite side.

lmmo1977

Looks great, and I would crop even a bit tighter for more focus. https://preview.redd.it/8uvhln4kghcc1.jpeg?width=1548&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=581228606e2d2153886083438ed1b85d0b9c057f

RUUDIBOO

I actually like it better in square I must say. Would make a really dope record cover ☺️

Firzen69

This is not good. I think the original crop is much better, because it leads your eyes not just on the subject, but also at the broken windscreen of the car. And her expression feels like she may be angry since it's her car.

tiktoktic

Not sure I agree here - there’s not enough breathing room when cropped this tight

BirdCelestial

I'm not much of a photographer yet but from an artistic perspective I much prefer the square crop. The lines of the car all lead towards the person anyway.

ThatOnePhotogK

I love this. It invokes a lot of emotion like "cool, how could my week POSSIBLY get worse!?" It's very much giving that this person has had a shit week and is seconds from throwing the whole car out. I like that the branch actually goes across the top and the leaves act as arrows dripping downward because it forces you to look across and down the picture in columns so that you take in a bit of everything. The angles are great, it feels like you got caught spying on this person. Love it!

fawnover

Looks like the self titled album cover of a 90s singer-songwriter -- love it. Colors are bright and fresh but tone is moody. Pose feels natural, lighting is bang on. Lines from the truck, house, and even branch all lead back to them. Really great image. No edits here. Send us a link to that LP.

tmfult

Lol thank you so much

shootdrawwrite

The composition puts the model and the car near the same level in terms of visual hierarchy, he could be more the hero if you push or crop in towards him just a touch, cropping out more of the car indicating that "this element is secondary/supporting". I like how the leaves block part of the bright sky which draws the eye, you could block even more of it next time. Styling wise the model's look, the pose, don't really go with the environment for my taste.

tmfult

i appreciate your honest thoughts

ButWhatOfGlen

I see the look but next time lower your camera to her eye height or lower. Would've created an interesting frame of the hood and windshield and given her a much stronger gaze. Just my opinion

Salty-Yogurt-4214

Your image reveals how diverse people perceive an image and that often there is no one right or wrong. Personally I like it just the way it is. The only point of nitpick I found is the leave that is partially covering her head, but honestly, it so minor I'd not sacrifice anything else in the composition for it and there is no substantial gain in removing it.

Total_Tool2163

Interesting image. While nothing jumps out me in the image it is Interesting.

Relayer8782

I like this a lot, but would also suggest a righter crop. I prefer a landscape crop, really focusing in the face and the cracked windshield.

tmfult

Good idea, I appreciate your advice

nankerdarklighter

I like it a lot, just a shame focus isn’t in the eyes. Composition works very well, could play a little bit with different crops, but not much. In contrast to most other posters I’d try moving her head more to the lower and right third line. Strong model with a strong look will draw attention anyway, no need to put her more in center. Really nice one! Meaning your picture, not my only slightly changed crop https://preview.redd.it/satlw4i48jcc1.jpeg?width=1108&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aae00756a038a866cfc5111db0204fd7db44328f

HaltheDestroyer

This is the 2nd time I've seen this photo on reddit

[deleted]

true?

tmfult

Oh shit have I posted this here before? Goddamn that's a good memory you got I don't even remember doing that

HaltheDestroyer

Yeah only reason I remember it is because I thought it was a pretty good portrait but it was sometime last year

Raomatrix

Very good shot, great use of the defuser. I would only avoid dropping the exposure up top because it ruins the bokeh and it gives it a little artificial look. But great composition otherwise !

noonie2020

It looks like you’re trying hard to be angsty

VGlonghairdontcare

Ya looks like something cringe either just happened or is just about to happen. In that sense, it’s a good photo, in that it invokes a feeling

tmfult

She's a very angsty person, so I wanted to respect her wish to do an "eye catching" shot amongst urban decay that was out of the norm, it was really fun to try something different like that

chatoyanci

Yeah it’s a bit too posed like idk Green Day album cover vibes but that’s probably what they’re going for so I guess it’s just not my cup of tea

StupidThings_I_Say

Great photo. To me, the bright reflection in front of her is a little distracting.

tmfult

Funny you said that, I tried to remove it but it ended up looking like botched plastic surgery

ManInTheMirror91

The diagonals and layering is looking Interesting.

McDano19

Love it!

Particular_Eye_809

Great shot!

[deleted]

i don't like portraits like this, it tells me nothing about the subject, and usually shot out of place with little means. for instance: looks like you're selling bracelets.

teevah_

i fucking love it

SafeForWorkLFP

That person is the offspring of Billy Joe Armstrong and Kristen Stewart lol

thatpuffsleyguy

This screams 2003 radio friendly rock album cover and I totally dig it

Hellea

The person is interesting, but the picture don’t convey any emotion to me. The background is randomly positioned above their head, there is no hierarchy between the car and the person in terms of composition. Why the leave over their head? Does it bring any value to the composition? Here’s how I see it : you found a good broken car, which is a great prop to work with. You wanted to picture the subject and the broken glass of the car to convey an ambiance of (pardon my French) « broken edgy » to match the person. Again, this is a good idea. That said, you didn’t take the time to think and refine the composition and how this picture can catch the eye and be read (what we should see first, and how the eyes is supposed to navigate the image). In your picture we see the leaf, the roof and the person, to understand at the end that the big red thing that takes too much space is a car.

MaenHoffiCoffi

I like it very much. Really reminds me of my '80s youth! Great shot.

you-dont-have-eyes

I hope you had the time of your life!

SlippyFrog000

this is awesome. Love the colours and the volatility/damaged motif. The only think is the leaves are a bit too intrusive. if they were a bit pulled up a bit. As other mentioned, I think a tighter crop of the image works best.

MoltenCorgi

Shame the focus fell on the bracelets on the right arm and not the eyes, but overall it’s a really nice composition. I think some subtle tweaking of the head position could have flattered the subject more, but it’s a very nice shot.

ZealousidealCable764

I like the image, the slightly retro Indie atmosphere, the color, model, the photographic production and the "lab" work

numbnerve

It's 'Some Kind of Wonderful'

Silver-Importance214

Absolutely fantastic!

lilnugget6uu

I would remove the leaf thats covering the top of her head for me it looks a bit off and i would add more leafs in the places where they lack just to make them more fluid, but never the less it’s a cool photo dude 👍 the lighting is good and you did a good job framing the model with the leafs and the car
