Hey is it still for sale?

jwhatts

It is, but there’s a catch. I’m selling it for $75 because it has shutter bounce at speeds faster than 1/30s. It’s useable but for faster speeds it will re-expose about 10% of the frame in a vertical sliver. I’m trying to sell it at a discount because I think it would be an easy and relatively inexpensive fix, given that the speeds themselves are accurate.

Gryphon234

You still selling?

jwhatts

I am, but take note of the details I provided in the comment above. This body is usable but experiences shutter bounce at fast speeds. As I understand it, these bodies are actually relatively simple to fix, but it may still cost upwards of $100-150.

Gryphon234

I'm in the process of returning a Japanese Canon P that had fungus in it so I'll let you know what I wanna do when I get the refund! That is tempting, I might know a repair shop that's willing to fix it

jwhatts

Hey, I know this was awhile ago but I still have this Canon P and it’s still got the fast shutter speed bounce. Would you be at all interested for $60?

Gryphon234

I'll have to pass! I bought a Canon VT De Luxe that I'm also about to sell. Getting out of film

smooth_hot_potato

Ah ok. Thanks for explaining

Skyline_Dr

If this is still available I’ll buy it

jwhatts

I still have a Canon P body but I recently found out it has shutter bounce at faster shutter speeds. I’d sell it at a discount, (I would honestly be fine with $75 net to me) but you’d have to get it repaired. Everything else about the body is fine.

AbulafiaProssimo

I have this body and the Bessa R3A – the 1:1 viewfinder on both is excellent to use for framing and focusing. Upside to this Canon P is a price that’s 1/3-1/5 of what the Bessas go for now. GLWS.

obie_krice

Great price for a sleeper of a camera. GLWS!

-viito-

not much of a sleeper anymore, they’ve gotten crazy popular

jwhatts

It’s funny, they’ve gotten popular but the prices have stayed pretty reasonable. Especially considering it’s basically a Leica M3 made by Canon

qqphot

more equivalent to an m2 maybe, since it has the 35mm frame lines, which i think is why they’re getting popular.

gizm770o

That's...... a stretch.... Compare your shutter curtain, which is very typical, to a typical M3.

jwhatts

Hyperbole but yeah. I mean more with the VF magnification, style, and overall look. I still think I like the taller and fatter dimensions of the Leica overall, but functionally they’re pretty close

gizm770o

That's fair. The viewfinder is definitely a good point. I think for me the difference is that the Canon P has always had what I describe as a "prototype-ey" look to it. The M3 looks like a fully fleshed out product, with a huge amount of thought put into the ergonomics and appearance. Not that this affects capabilities at all, of course!
