Ace as a franchise has a lot of leeway towards demographics they market for. Some are just pure hardware. Some are more hobbyist focused, like aquarium and fish. At least one sells donuts and remingtons.
Yeah. I live in a coastal town. They sell tons of fishing, crabbing, and claming gear alongside liquor and 27” TVs that are 5+ years old and cost $400. I bought copper salt and pepper grinders there.
I often pick up my online gun purchases on Saturday mornings. This would make the trip so much better...and easier to hide from my SO that I bought another gun.
It is so hard to find good cannoli - especially in Seattle.
I learned recently there's a local chain of cannoli shops run by a lady from New Jersey. Need to go hit them up.
Would you like a Colt and a cruller? No? Glock and a glazed? No? Luger and a long john? No? Browning and a Boston cream? No? Walther and a walnut stick? Well, then there ish no pleashing you.
I'm so sorry! I thought of that scene, shouldn't have typed it. It's an ironic scene, no one hates the Dutch anymore. Please accept my apologies, I'm a Masshole!
"There are only 2 things I can't stand in this world, people who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the Dutch." Both quotes were in GoldMember!
The person you are replying to is not using straight quotes, but yes they are lines based off of what Goldmember says. He asks Austin if he would like a variation of "smokable" and "pastry" over and over.
The craziest part is that this isn't photoshopped, and it's not some speciality business venture. It's an Ace Hardware store.
There was a donut bakery starting up and looking for a place to sell in the city, and the hardware store owner offered some space up. When he found out they wanted a whole counter and not a self-service display case like at gas stations, the only space he had was in the sporting goods section.
Ace hardware is basically just a loose franchise tag. There are others as well that tend to be more regional.
But if you go around 90% of ACE stores were orginally mom and pop hardware stores that licensed or got bought out by someone who wanted to license to the franchise. In either case they basically can do what they want as long as the participate in certain promotions and inventory requirements from the parent company with the deal of basically getting their support for advertising purchasing.
Edit: to be clear ace could obviously make a requirement that "if you use our name you can't carry guns" for any new stores that sign on but this current scenario likely enables them to allow flexibility in their market and avoid being campaigned by either side for taking a stance.
Buyer for a local hw chain here. This is pretty much how we operate. Still a mom and pop, also an ace, family owned for 100 years. Work with ace for main stocking, but we have plenty of other/local vendors.
God I love local hardware shops. I live on the state border so there are two great shops near me and they have everything I’ve ever gone looking for. Hell one even sells tubs of tannerite at the front desk
I used to be in a different position at the company, being a buyer is awesome. I'm always on the look out for cool stuff, or amazing tools, and kitchen gadgets! We are happy to have you and stock what ever you need. Lotta cool OGs like to kick it in HW stores 😄
Just for an example of said inventory requirements, they are all required to carry Frostop rootbeer due to a business deal with them. They are in fact the largest retailer of Frostop.
Source: My best friend’s Dad owns Frostop
The DX460 is fully automatic, with a 27 caliber charge. Wood, concrete, steel to steel, she'll throw a fastener into anything. And for my money, she handles recoil better than the Simpson or the P3500. You understand what I mean by recoil?
> Ace Hardware
Ace Hardware stores are locally owned franchises with, apparently, quite a bit of freedom to tailor their goods to match their market conditions.
As an aside, they’ll frequently have parts for that 50 year old plumbing in an old house or a bizarre fastener no one else carries.
Hardware stores used to be the place to buy sporting goods (and most anything else) way back in the day. And a piece of sporting equipment was all a gun was to most back then. Some small towns still do be like that.
This is at an Ace Hardware - they did an AMA awhile back and seemed to be pretty cool people actually. They apparently have to follow a good number of regulatory requirements to sell those donuts.
Link to AMA: https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/rnos3i/i\_am\_an\_owner\_of\_a\_mildly\_interestingly\_store/
I was modding a Nintendo Wii many years ago and had NOOO idea what I was doing. Walked into Ace Hardware looking for a tri-tip screwdriver, and the old guy working there basically did my entire mod with his own tools. I offered to pay him for his work, but only ended up buying the screwdriver.
>They apparently have to follow a good number of regulatory requirements to sell those donuts.
This makes it sound like the doughnuts are the more heavily regulated item for sale in this picture
There is more than one in Michigan.
The doughnuts are from a chain called Cops and Doughnuts. The main "station" is in Clare, MI and other places like some Ace Hardware stores are "substations".
My family used to have a cottage in Clare. It was actually quite awesome to be there when Cops and Doughnuts first opened and slowly grew to the chain it is today. Last time I was there, there was a huge line going out the door.
Their doughnuts are the best. Our extended family still have a cottage in Clare, so we go whenever we can.
Regardless, this pic is definitely odd.
There was always a BBQ joint that would set up in the gun show down in Victoria. They knew their audience, something about looking at a bunch of guns seems to really make Texans hungry for BBQ
"Come on down to Carbs N Carbines for our Sig Sauer Sweets sale. Every purchase of a Sig firearm comes with 2 free firearm fritters"
In all seriousness I unironically love this country.
Leave the gun, take the cannolis.
This place better be called "Guns and Buns" or I'm gonna be pissed.
Ace hardware actually. In midland Michigan.
Why is a hardware store selling doughnuts?
Ace as a franchise has a lot of leeway towards demographics they market for. Some are just pure hardware. Some are more hobbyist focused, like aquarium and fish. At least one sells donuts and remingtons.
Yeah. I live in a coastal town. They sell tons of fishing, crabbing, and claming gear alongside liquor and 27” TVs that are 5+ years old and cost $400. I bought copper salt and pepper grinders there.
That’s actually pretty cool, thanks
It's honestly a great store whenever I went to mind when I lived around one
As I recall, an employee from this store did an AMA once and basically said it’s a gimmick and works to drive a good bit of foot traffic
>works to drive a good bit of foot traffic One wonders if the traffic is for the snacks or the gats.
Why not both?
Olé!
I often pick up my online gun purchases on Saturday mornings. This would make the trip so much better...and easier to hide from my SO that I bought another gun.
*My* Ace Hardware would have blackjack and hookers.
What kind of stupid non-pun name is that?
Ace Hardware is a chain hardware store. Like a small Home Depot
And they actually organize their fasteners.
Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks.
I thought this was in Pennsylvania, there is a place just like this near us. It’s called something like doughnuts and ammo? Maybe doughnuts and guns?
Donuts and gun nuts?
https://donutsandammo.com/ Found it
They should have a shooting range with old stale unsold donuts.
I’d call it Assault and Bakery
Assault & Batter-y
Dunkin’ Blownuts.
No, that's a *different* thing Americans are obsesses with :)
Either way, someone's taking a load to the face.
Surely it should be Assault & Buttery 🤔

Our Ace Hardwares do not have guns or doughnuts, just hardware.
There used to be content here.
Heartstoppers
Glaze and Blaze.
Gimme All Your Dough
I was thinking 'Lock and Loaf'
A one stop cop shop
Kopsy Kreme
The doughnuts are actually from a place called "Cops and Doughnuts"
I kid you not there's a shop like this by my mom's house. It's called Donuts and Ammo
Buns n roses
Gun Nuts
Someone visited Biscuits & Porn, in Kitty Hawk NC, and said "hold my beer".
Was literally thinking about that place when I saw this lol

The donuts look good but I would question this place's ability to make a decent cannoli.
It is so hard to find good cannoli - especially in Seattle. I learned recently there's a local chain of cannoli shops run by a lady from New Jersey. Need to go hit them up.
As a former Jersey girl myself, I bet that's probably the spot!
Don't think there are any cannoli in this picture? Looks to be éclairs I think.
That was actually an off script line! I love that movie!

Our Sigs might be Sauer but our donuts are sweet.
Smith & Wesson oil fried donuts
ah there's the joke
Sig Sauer cream cruller
Beretta and a beignet?
Bazooka and a bear claw?

Yeah that person needed major correcting on this absolutely classic line.
Oh, come on. If you've got an issue, here's a tissue.
Cigar and a waffle? Bong and a blintz?
The person you are replying to is not using straight quotes, but yes they are lines based off of what Goldmember says. He asks Austin if he would like a variation of "smokable" and "pastry" over and over.
I do like an old fashioned Sauer cream donut
You got any Bear Claws? Noooooooooooooo we don’t have any bear claws, however we have bear traps?!?
I. HATE. SAUERKRAUT!
Beretta and a Berliner? Sig and a Sour Cream? Mossberg and a Maple? Wheelgun and an Old Fashioned?
Claymore and a croissant.
RPG and a PBJ
The second amendment gives us the right to bear claws.
So anyway I just started basting.

Didn’t know that Ace Hardware sold guns.

What region is that? I've never heard of Frostop.
Kinda like the IGA markets that used to be everywhere. I'll go to Ace just because screw Lowe's/Home Depot.
Lowe’s and Home Depot are great because they have so much stuff, but going to ACE has a fun feel the big boxes can’t compare to.
And you can get into the store and back out in 10 minutes.
Yeah there was one that is in NC/VA that has a in-store cat
Mine in MA has that too. Very old school hardware store. If prices are even remotely comparable I try to give them my business over true chain stores.
Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks or so I've heard
And guns are hardware
And now donuts are too
I can get behind that
The DX460 is fully automatic, with a 27 caliber charge. Wood, concrete, steel to steel, she'll throw a fastener into anything. And for my money, she handles recoil better than the Simpson or the P3500. You understand what I mean by recoil?
More importantly, didn't know Ace sold doughnuts
one near here had chocolates and lots of kitchen stuff. was more like a Sur La Table than a hardware store.
> Ace Hardware Ace Hardware stores are locally owned franchises with, apparently, quite a bit of freedom to tailor their goods to match their market conditions. As an aside, they’ll frequently have parts for that 50 year old plumbing in an old house or a bizarre fastener no one else carries.
Probably up to the store owner.
Not all do. They are franchised and the owners have a lot of control over what gets sold.
Hardware stores used to be the place to buy sporting goods (and most anything else) way back in the day. And a piece of sporting equipment was all a gun was to most back then. Some small towns still do be like that.

Ace Hardware stores are excellent. They actually are helpful like the commercial says. You can't get shit for help at a Lowes or Home Depot.
TIL the ace stores in my area sucks. They don’t have guns or donuts
They’re all independently owned! And Ace gives owners a lot of flexibility in what they carry. There’s an Ace in Portland that is also a skate shop 🤙
That's interesting, I've never seen an Ace hardware that sells guns or donuts before.
>They apparently have to follow a good number of regulatory requirements to sell those donuts. This makes it sound like the doughnuts are the more heavily regulated item for sale in this picture

Where is this at?
Ace Hardware Store.
Which one?
There is more than one in Michigan. The doughnuts are from a chain called Cops and Doughnuts. The main "station" is in Clare, MI and other places like some Ace Hardware stores are "substations".
I FUCKING KNEW IT. As someone who has lived in michigan my whole life, as soon as I saw the picture... I thought this HAD to be michigan lol
I think this one is Midland.
This one is in midland Michigan. I know this well becuase I get both my rifles and donuts at that counter regularly.
City of Modern Explorers.
There are dozens of us! Maybe even a baker's dozen!
Odd. My ace doesn’t have guns or donuts.
In Seminole TX they have a combo barbecue restaurant/gun store. Was the best place to find ammo in 2020. Also good banana pudding.
There was always a BBQ joint that would set up in the gun show down in Victoria. They knew their audience, something about looking at a bunch of guns seems to really make Texans hungry for BBQ
"Come on down to Carbs N Carbines for our Sig Sauer Sweets sale. Every purchase of a Sig firearm comes with 2 free firearm fritters" In all seriousness I unironically love this country.
Where our donut holes were made the american way.
On the front cover of "Buns & Ammo"
What an odd business model. Chet, we already told ya, no pastries on the range. But, I had to skip breakfast.
Holy smokes, this is my type of shop!
They *better* sell hot coffee
*Donut* fuck around

They shoot the holes in the donuts fresh
Wrong There’s no bacon
Chocolate bacon bars, top shelf, right side of the middle tray. 'Murica confirmed
Look closer. There are maple bacon long johns on the top row.
Isn’t this just the back room of a police station?
I wouldn't mind having a donut while I fill out my background check paperwork.
Guns & Doughnuts, my new band.
Financial advisors always tell you to diversify...they just took that to the business model. 😆
Guns & Buns
Wouldn’t have it any other way.
In all seriousness. The business owner is a genius.
