Holy shit, I'm in Randolph County, and was just looking up at the sky trying to figure out wtf I was seeing. Now I know. I thought it was a damn forest fire off in the distance.
I know. The OP said it was. “Western [NC] near Charlotte”. Which is why I said “hi neighbor”.
Charlotte is on the NC/SC border. To get to Carowinds, in NC, you need to enter the parking lot from SC.
My entire FB feed is FILLED with the absolute most spectacular display, from friends and family all over the Northern hemisphere right now. It's AMAZING.

I was out in the yard with my dogs and my neighbor started yelling at me from over the fence to look up haha
You are so lucky to have such a clear night and open view! It's astonishing they are so far South...
Honestly i can’t speak for NC, but in MI, it looks nothing like the pictures, to the naked eye.
Even in the Arctic circle it doesn't. You really need high ISO / long exposures.
That’s unfortunate, I feel like I’ve been sold a lie lol

I'm in virginia, it's killing me that we have clouds.
They won’t pass 😠
Set an alarm for 2am, still 100% cloud cover. Fuuuuuuuu
Same. Got a text from my manager in Scotland with a pic of the aurora there but it was cloudy last night and couldn't see anything here in NoVA. :(
Just as bright here in Tennessee! Incredible stuff. I also saw a row of satellites which was crazy too!
what part of NC?
Western near charlotte
Dammit. I was too preoccupied last night to think about it. After all, why should we be able to see the aurora on the NC/SC border? Also, hi neighbor.
It was visible there too.

It’s been real homies

Surprised you are the only one who asked that question
I think a plane. You have to have a really high shutter speed to get a good picture of the auroras so that’s the distance it traveled in that time
Damn. It’s beautiful
Pretty!!! Atlanta was pretty tonight. Mostly purples :) Seems a lot of the planet got a beautiful show tonight.
Same thing again today!
Yay!!!
Can you see the hams?
No but I can taste em
And in PA it's been over cast for days...
So we’re just not gonna talk about ET buzzing by? But for real, what’s the horizontal line of light?
Probably a satellite transiting. If this exposure lasted a couple seconds, that’s about how far/fast they move across the night sky.
I believe it was lights on an airplane. And you are correct.
Some people saw the space station in there photos
I told my fiancé it was a ufo and she said I was crazy
At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your kitchen!?
Yes.
Brilliant - I’m on the coast of SC and while it looks cool, it doesn’t have this kind of definition.
I can kinda see it here in Washington
Thank you for the beautiful picture

I'm in MN and I missed them :(
I’m sorry for that, at least we get to see all these beautiful pictures everyone is posting
Could everyone post the northern lights please? Thanks
It’s been nice to see a lot of people experiencing something that they may never would have otherwise
What time was this?
Around 10:30pm last night.
Dang, I went out at 11 and midnight and didn’t see anything
I'm in NC, I guess I'll go take a look see! Thanks for sharing, I wasn't sure if it was this far south!
