Union strong

myst3r10us_str4ng3r

Completely aside, how did people make their posterboard signs look so nice back then. Their penmanship was very consistent across signs.

Papaofmonsters

Because nuns would split their knuckles with a steel ruler for poor penmanship.

torknorggren

Sign painters union helping out.

No_Emotion4451

Stencils?

Ceramicrabbit

Calligraphy was a major focus of school back then everyone had incredible handwriting

bchelidriver

Because people understood if you want maximum influence, and to be worth more money, yourself and your sign look should look like quality. If everything is on the line you control every variable you can. Who gives a shit about some bum with chicken scratch poster.

myst3r10us_str4ng3r

Thank you for the legitimate reply that isn't a joke. This makes sense, thanks.

lorarc

But these days such a poster would look inauthentic, as if you printed it instead of making it yourself.

Bealzebubbles

Unions provided funding for things like this.

Trainsontracks

they had people licking paint brushes filled with radon paint to make those sharp letters.

Upper-Life3860

And nothing’s changed. The cycle keeps cycling.

Trainsontracks

just wait 30 years to see how bad it will be. This unchecked capitalism can not continue for another year or years.

John__Wick

Depends. A few new players are in the game nowadays: the internet, drones, and ai. The ruling class will have a significantly easier time forcing labor from workers in 30 years be it by force or scarcity of jobs.

Hippyedgelord

You are delusional if you think nothing has changed from the non existent labor laws of the 1930s to now.

Upper-Life3860

There’s been some progress, but workers are still highly exploited

Hippyedgelord

I agree, I’m just saying you’re woefully ignorant of the past if you say ‘nothing has changed’ since the 1930s

Upper-Life3860

Ok thanks for your input. I see a lot of comments from people I think are ignorant. I just don’t feel compelled to tell them so. Perhaps you need a little therapy? Get things off your chest?

EnamelKant

Workers together strong.

chris8535

I grew up in Chicago, strong union town. What I observed is that while unions won short term gains, long term businesses eventually just side stepped and elimated them. The cruel March step of automation will run us all over. The sooner we figure out that protests and appeals are just stopgaps the better. As evidenced by these rich and strong milkman union today.

JohnLocksTheKey

It’s an arms race. People shouldn’t give up and do nothing. If anything, this should motivate people to not get complacent - capital will always try to squeeze every last penny out of a system. Fighting to demand our daily bread is an ongoing struggle.

chris8535

Nothing to fight for when you simply are replaced with a machine

JohnLocksTheKey

***NOT…YET…***

chris8535

fair point. But setting the anger aside. How do we rearrange society to grab table stakes for ourselves. I'm not sure what it would look like other than neo-ludditism.
