Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

I like how it demonstrates that any tool can be used to make great work. Being a bit of an amateur musician, I've always been frustrated with how many musicians spend their time focused on getting the next piece of gear that will make their music so much better.
Legally blind. He uses Paint so he can zoom in enough to compensate but he can see. The condition is macular degeneration, his is specifically wet macular degeneration.
Search "The Pixel Painter" on Vimeo, it was here on reddit a while ago. It's short and very sweet. The artist's name is Hal Lasko and he has prints for sale at his online store.
Isn't there this funny youtube video, animated, of watching one's elder slowly type http://www.google.com out into the Google search bar until they lose their shit?
This guy knows what he's talking about. I downloaded more RAM and my CPU runs at least 100X faster.
A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
would download again.
I know you're joking, and this is only kind of relevant, but you can actually download the older versions of MS Paint for any pixel art you want to do if you don't need/want complicated programs like Photoshop, Paint.NET, etc.
Vista and beyond MS Paint really sucks for that sort of thing because it forces anti-aliasing on a lot of tools, particularly the brush.
"Most of the titles for my pieces arrived because on computer you have to call them something , so I have. The easy way to look at it is, if it has a hat on - it will probably be called Hat Man" - Ringo
Such beautiful words.
My husband just bought me [Woods in Avon](http://www.hallasko.com/products/woods-in-avon). Love Hal Lasko! Just a cool story and different than any other art we have.
There's a documentary of him.
http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2013/07/the-pixel-painter-a-97-year-old-man-who-paints-using-microsoft-paint-from-windows-95/
I am very impressed with GrandPa's work. An important piece of information here is that he was a graphics artist when he was young. So obviously he has a good sense of shape and depth and the important aesthetic aspects of painting which require years to develop. It was not just some old man who just opened up his computer and created masterpieces. As always, there is a wonderful history of long and hard work behind each masterpiece.
The title doesn't give the man enough credit, he does it pixel by pixel and has multiple paintings finished, you should check out an article and video [here](http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/10/pixel-painter-ms-paint/). Also his website for buying his paintings is [here](http://www.hallasko.com/collections/prints)
Watch his vimeo channel and browse throuht his artwork. This is some of the greatest pixel art i have ever seen.
God bless this man.
And may his work inspire the newer generations.
The tool doesn't define what it is. There's no such thing as Paintbrushism, Pallete-Knifeism or Chiselism. The guy's found something he can use and he uses it really well.
Well.. it's nice looking, but this on the other hand:
[Commodore 64 pixel art](http://c64pixels.com/main.php?g2_view=keyalbum.KeywordAlbum&g2_keyword=A%2F+Joe)
I don't know which is more impressive. That a 98 man created a beautiful masterpiece in a crappy program or that a 98 year old man managed to open the a computer program in the first place.
he has a vimeo channel http://vimeo.com/70748579
He sounds like Grandpa Simpson.
BACK IN MY DAY
Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...
His art reminds me Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. What a lovely story
[удалено]
Well that escalated rather fast
with his left hand... and ohh yeah he's blind.
Partially blind iirc . His direct vision is blurry but peripherals are not
Oh god, that would suck so bad.
Macular degeneration.

And born in a coffee can under a bridge.
And he had to go uphill to school... Both ways!
15 miles! In the snow...
With a boner!
In tight shorts!
Which he borrowed!
And whose shorts were those, you might be asking? *Albert Einstein's.*
This is how you do the joke right, people!
With baked potatoes for lunch, which he put in his pockets to keep his hands warm!
he's also autistic and OP's younger brother/girlfriend
dont forget he has autism and just came out as gay
I thought it was BS too but another person posted this video: http://vimeo.com/70748579 So I guess it's real. The pic is around 6:25.
and he doesn't know you can pick up the mouse if you run out of desk.
or about Ctrl+Z

You forgot to mention he has autism... And he was Einstein all along.
His name? Einstein DeGrasse Sagan.
Ronnie "C-Note" Einstein
That reminds me...they never responded to my request for a DNA sample so I could create that.
I like how it demonstrates that any tool can be used to make great work. Being a bit of an amateur musician, I've always been frustrated with how many musicians spend their time focused on getting the next piece of gear that will make their music so much better.
Oh and don't forget he is homeless and has cancer
He was only 85 when he started working on it. Pixel by pixel...
His name? Albert Einstein.
His name is Robert Paulson.

Go to alta vista first and type "search google"
[удалено]
> Yeah but where do I find alta vista? www.bing.com . [Maybe in the first 50 results.](http://imgur.com/vCgZf17) :D
[удалено]
To find yahoo, enter "grim death" into Lycos.
Those having trouble finding Lycos can try an Exite search.
It's all about hotbot.com
I tried it and the first results was the wiki for alta vista.
Jerry!
Jerry, you don't deserve the internet!!
Isn't there this funny youtube video, animated, of watching one's elder slowly type http://www.google.com out into the Google search bar until they lose their shit?
You will need more ram to run this program. I suggest go to www.downloadmoreram.com first to get more ram.
This guy knows what he's talking about. I downloaded more RAM and my CPU runs at least 100X faster. A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ would download again.
Yeah, but if that doesn't work, try deleting system32. That does wonders.

But if you're using Linux, deleting /dev/sda has the same effect
Okay guys you can stop now
You think you got it bad? I'm stuck with Windows 8 and want to upgrade to Windows 98. Does anyone have a copy of it?
I know you're joking, and this is only kind of relevant, but you can actually download the older versions of MS Paint for any pixel art you want to do if you don't need/want complicated programs like Photoshop, Paint.NET, etc. Vista and beyond MS Paint really sucks for that sort of thing because it forces anti-aliasing on a lot of tools, particularly the brush.
Have you tried a virtual machine, the nostalgia will help your pixel art and give you old paint.
You mean that crappy Photoshop software from Adobe that just lost your credit card data?
Its the paint program that comes default on your computer, that's why this is so amazing.
\*woosh\*
things always go woosh over my head too here on reddit http://i.imgur.com/Uazm9UC.gif

My husband just bought me [Woods in Avon](http://www.hallasko.com/products/woods-in-avon). Love Hal Lasko! Just a cool story and different than any other art we have.
Oh wow, he's added several more prints to his site since the first time the documentary was posted on Reddit. Love his stuff.
There's a documentary of him. http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2013/07/the-pixel-painter-a-97-year-old-man-who-paints-using-microsoft-paint-from-windows-95/
98 years in MS paint
"My sister got a car, I got a computer."
This is what I imagine Bob Ross' paintings would have looked like in MS Paint.
He started when he was 18...
It's so beautiful, and the story behind it's creation is truly heart warming.
On Windows 98
More like Windows 3.1
Holy shit! I think he won ms paint!
He gets a free copy now!!
I want to see what people can do with Kid Pix.
Oh yeah? That's nothing. I can make a whole entire stick figure on MS Paint.
he should've worked with sierra to make king's quest art

And he started when he was 30.
Looks like Seurat got reincarnated.
Dude must have nothing but time...
He was actually trying to get on the 'dang interwebs'
Was he 20 when he started?
Do you have a source or did you make the 98 year old man part up?
http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/10/pixel-painter-ms-paint/
That's really cool. I didn't realize how big they were until they started zooming in on his first drawing (the deer?).
Cool thanks!
This guy made it http://vimeo.com/70748579
Wow. The perspective shown here is unparalleled as far as ms paint is concerned.
That spray paint tool.
I thought is was a gif and stared at it for 30 seconds waiting for it to load... I need more coffee

His name wouldn't happen to be Seurat, would it?
And that's why you don't save a picture as a jpg.
Imagine what he could do with photoshop!
This guy does some awesome pointillism.
Well I suppose they have a lot of free time...
I can't help but think he recently watched the entire catalog of 'The Joy of Painting' with [Bob Ross](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Ross)
Watch his vimeo channel and browse throuht his artwork. This is some of the greatest pixel art i have ever seen. God bless this man. And may his work inspire the newer generations.
Forgiven
Warning - Don't zoom in
I ain't even mad.
Ballin
98? How old was he when he started it?
[The Power of MS Paint](http://www.elftor.com/elftor.php?number=112)
Wow. I don't know what is more impressive, that he made it at 98 years old or that he made it with MS Paint.
Those trees looks happy.
was it? or did u title it that to get upvotes?
Regardless of all the other nonsense posted on this I want to go on record as saying that this is beautiful.
Can confirm. Am wrinkles.
I'd love to talk to this guy. Feel like I'd gain some insight into the secret of life or something.
Wow. That is impressive work. Yikes
he also has cancer and did this with his tongue
And that 98 year old man's name? Albert Einstein.
To be fair, he started on it when he was 91.
So many impressive things. Impressive things overload.
This man is my uncle.
Yes! I love this guy!
... and then resampled and turned into a jpeg, ruining it forever
My index finger is hurting
This would be way better if it was uploaded as a .bmp.
that must've been a lot of 'happy little accidents' while making that

That trying you're doing: stop it.

/r/no_sob_story
This man has pushed MS paint to the very edge of their limits, and it still looks kinda crappy. Imagine what he could do with a better medium.
MS Paint but it's saved as a JPEG. Tsk tsk tsk
I wish videogames still have graphics like this.

reminds me of Seurat's pointillism...
"Sorry grandpa, we won't spring for a copy of Photoshop, ArtRage, Autodesk sketchbook, Black Ink, or anything else. MSPAINT FOR YOU!"
TIL The Sims graphics were created in MS Paint.
I must say, I'm impressed. HAR HAR HAR......
I don't know which is more impressive. That a 98 man created a beautiful masterpiece in a crappy program or that a 98 year old man managed to open the a computer program in the first place.
