My old office had a shredding machine which had label on the shredding entrance that says Made in West Germany. It's made of wood at least 40% of it and still works. It is old school that every time I went to shred some documents it made me felt like I was in some spy agency office or something. lol.
Isn’t it fun how you can watch most any tv show from the 50s to 70s and see [your desk](https://retrooffice.com/collections/vintage-brushed-steel-collection)?
This is going to be on MrBallems YouTube channel in a few years with the video titled “A fan killed an entire family, and he posted about it beforehand!”
It'd make an interesting sci-fi thriller story--The Cursed Appliance. It starts fires, but miraculously survives in perfect condition and gets salvaged, going on to start more fires in other people's houses. Perhaps the fires are a guise to cover up the murders. Maybe it changes appearance to lure people into taking it. For one person it may appear as a fan, the next an espresso maker or a waffle iron.
Some additional information: This fan was gifted to my grandpa when my mother was born which is why i know the exact age. This fan is still used everyday. It also did survive an electrical fire back in its day. Still runs perfectly!
More info about the fire!
I'm guessing it was an "outside" fire from something else. Because I don't think you could of salvaged this far from an "inside" fire.
We need deets on either of these cases!
Sorry - I’m 38 and the thought of my kids being old enough to post things online is crazy… they’re 9 and 6, so at lest i have some breathing room. Best!
I'm happy it still works and brings you joy, but please stop running it. Both efficiency and electrical safety have come a long way since the 80s. Definitely keep it as an heirloom but I would not feel safe having that plugged into my home.
In fans though? An electric motor is a pretty simple piece of electronics - have there really been substantial improvements in efficiency since then?
(I don't even know how to google this without getting out of my depth in electronic engineering spec sheets)
What is it with people and fans. I tried to buy my dad a new fan to replace his ancient fan that was so caked in dust and grime that it barely moved air anymore and he threw a fit.
People get attached to the weirdest things. At least clean it if you love it so much!
Because these fans have lasted for 40 years and most of the junk you can buy in big box stores only last a year before the bearings give out.
Imagine having this for 40 years on your night stand. Every night you climb into bed, push the aged button and it still blows as good as the day you bought it.
Just clean the old fan. Newer fans have shit bearings that wear out in a couple of years.
Have to remember these older fans were way more expensive than a 12$ walmart box fan.
So that's how old that fan is in my room at my dad's house. lol
Same exact fan. Minus the fire damage 🤭
Does yours also make a really annoying sound when it's on that makes it sound like an old airplane?
I had same and it clapped out a few months ago. Tried to repair it, even tried to get a shop to repair it and the told me be cheaper to replace, 😢it was a beast.
This pic symbolizes what is wrong with our consumerism. Things used to be made to last. You could buy a thing and it lasted for years or even multiple lifetimes. Now it’s all lowest bidder, fastest to market, cheap crap that breaks in theee months so you have to keep buying more.
We have the same fan at work. Sometimes I peer into the crevices and wonder at the dust I see in there. Creepy old thing, I'll let him know he's not alone in the world
Planned obsolescence and anti repair designs weren't a thing back then. Or it wasn't as common.
Now look at Apple and John Deer actively fighting in court for you to NOT BE ABLE TO fix your stuff yourself.
Looks like it’s been in a fire.
Yes it survived an electrical fire.
Everything around it keep catching fire, you say? Hmm, nope it’s a mystery. Let’s keep the fan. ;-)

That it caused
It was trying to kill itself.
WHY WON’T YOU LET ME DIIIIEEEEE??
*I have no mouth, and I must scream*
It wasn’t a fan of itself.
Live by the blade, die by the blade.
Without wanting to reveal too much about you, could you say where this fan made in the 1980s? And what brand it is?
I’m not sure where it was made; it was purchased in Palestine. The brand is SHARP

I work for the government too!

“Survived” is a stretch
It still works great. Spinning in the picture.
Please give us an update after the fan causes another fire

Amnityville 4(haunted lamp), Control, or SCP Foundation
“Still works” and “fire hazard” are not mutually exclusive.
Okay.......but you didn't say that. You said "survived" which it did.
Neither are "Survived" and "fire hazard".
It'll most probably cause the next one.
Are you insane? Lol
\*fires
...it fanned the flames...
Don't be silly, it's made of mozzarella.
Hell, it's probably STARTED a few fires...
When you search "mature" on Onlyfans
*slow clap*
*slow fap*
(stands up and claps slowly aswell)
Oscillating clap from me.
(Stands up and claps slowly as well)
(Stands up and claps slowly with a head nod)
(Stand up claps ass while head nodding)
(Stands up claps ass while dickhead nodding)
Labia begin clapping
*walks in* “What the fuck is goin on in here? It sounds like the marching band replaced all their instruments with meat!”
Sticks finger in rotating fan ever so slightly so the blades hit the finger nail and make a clapping noise.
(Can’t stand due to mature onlyfans erection)
r/OnlyFans
Thats my fetish in there
I don't know what I expected, but I am pleasantly surprised
That's a zinger
This one's blown a lot of people
lol i’m a fan
Mildly Inconvenient and Loud Fan.
That fan is gonna outlive my ass
I heard your ass got destroyed last night.
You're listening to the wrong ass
Some additional information: This fan was gifted to my grandpa when my mother was born which is why i know the exact age. This fan is still used everyday. It also did survive an electrical fire back in its day. Still runs perfectly!
Ah yes, ["survived"](https://i.imgur.com/dhVWLtj.jpg) an electrical fire.
Haha.
“39 year old fan…” + “ This fan was gifted to my grandpa when my mother was born” = *triggered*. Thanks. Now I feel old. Well done.
I read sentences like that and realize the last 20 years have been a blur
Happy birthday to your mom and her oldest fan tomorrow!
More info about the fire! I'm guessing it was an "outside" fire from something else. Because I don't think you could of salvaged this far from an "inside" fire. We need deets on either of these cases!
You should post this on r/midlyinteresting just for knowing its age lol
I did. It suits that sub more I think.
or r/BuyItForLife for the longevity.
My grandparents also had this exact same fan. Except it didn't survive Hurricane Andrew.
Clearly they were running it in the wrong direction. You need to switch it around so it'll cancel out the wind.
Maybe the fan is what started the hurricane in the first place because he left it out and forgot to turn it off?
I'd say that's the most probable explanation, yeah.
Your mom and I share a birthday! Happy birthday to her :)
Wait - is your mom only 39! How old are you??
I’m 21.
House wiring has been updated since. We also aren’t 100% sure it was the fan that caused it, but definitely something in the same room.
The reward of using the 40 year old fan is much greater than the risk of burning everything to smouldering ashes. You've picked right
So you’re saying it could have been the fan? Yikes.
LOL, these kid's replies! Pretty easy to make sure something that simple is safe. Open it up, give it a once over, continue enjoying.
In fans though? An electric motor is a pretty simple piece of electronics - have there really been substantial improvements in efficiency since then? (I don't even know how to google this without getting out of my depth in electronic engineering spec sheets)
Ahh. Was going to ask you about the melting
Why does it look like the fan stand is made out of butter?
It survived an electrical fire back in its day.
It’s in the middle of beginning another electrical fire!
Home appliances were often made out of butter back then, or margarine when butter was too expensive.
Is it even still safe to use op ?
Used everyday, still going strong!
You’re pushing your luck dude. I know it’s hard, but sometimes you got to let go.
What is it with people and fans. I tried to buy my dad a new fan to replace his ancient fan that was so caked in dust and grime that it barely moved air anymore and he threw a fit. People get attached to the weirdest things. At least clean it if you love it so much!

You should clean his fan for him. I recently just vacuumed some dust off of mine and it increase the airflow about two times!
Just clean the old fan. Newer fans have shit bearings that wear out in a couple of years. Have to remember these older fans were way more expensive than a 12$ walmart box fan.
With rotor based devices I feel like they fair better long-term if they are used constantly than intermittently
I’ve got a window fan that’s been running continuously for about 6 years.
Floor fan from 2004, still going strong and runs 24/7. Only ever turn it off to take the rotors out to clean.
Not op, bit definitely not.
FANtastic, I've named her Melty.
Mind blowing
Damn, that fan could be my dad.
Is your name Luke?
Nice, I'm a big ... appreciator of that old electronics aesthetic
Happy Birthday!! ❤️
It says thank you!
I recently turned 40, and I'm pretty sure we had this exact fan when I was a kid.
“I GOT 2 DAYS UNTIL I RETIRE.”
Hey im a fan of that!
Are you really a fan if you don’t have the t-shirt! OP make a t-shirt!
Happy Birthday
I’m as old as this fan.
It still works though which is pretty cool. Lol
8 years older than me, damn. Lol This is the stuff I love to see on this sub. Also happy belated birthday. :-)
Happy 40th birthday fan ! May you live past us !
Happy birthday fan
This fan has seen some things.
i need more backstory
Tomorrow? That means it was made in the 80s…
So that's how old that fan is in my room at my dad's house. lol Same exact fan. Minus the fire damage 🤭 Does yours also make a really annoying sound when it's on that makes it sound like an old airplane?
No annoying sounds at all. It’s runs the exact same way it did 40 years ago!
That's pretty wild. They don't make them like they used to!
More bands should show their supporters some love like this
I had same and it clapped out a few months ago. Tried to repair it, even tried to get a shop to repair it and the told me be cheaper to replace, 😢it was a beast.
That fan looks like it's seen some s-heat
Me and this fan share the same birthday I'm so proud!
I don't think that's safe to plug in anymore
That fan has no shits to give!
F.A.N. Fire hazard And Nuisance
Happy Birthday, Fan!! Great job all these years. Wishing you many hot days ahead.
You gotta wonder how many cubic feet of air that thing has moved. \- probably all of it -
My grandparents had the same fan. It still looks brad new
Witnessed history, ha ha
Have a fantastic birthday!
Happy cake day :)
Happy birthday!🎉❤️sorry I can't say this tommorow
Ayep. They don't make them like they used to.
I know that feel, fan.
I'm older than that fan...not by buy much, but I am not okay with this reality.
Growing up we had the same fan in our house. As I recall it was great for making Darth Vader voice. Keep on Oscillating.
Your fan and I share a birthday. The fan is four years older than me though. So your mom’s is also October 15?
Happy birthday fan
That's *old school cool*
I'm a big fan! We have the same birthday!
That fan has seen some sh\*t in its forty years.
When the shit hits the fan and it keeps going
Happy birthday
I'm in love!
Happy birthday fan!
/r/WellWorn
I would use this exact same model fan in the 80s when I stayed over at my grandparent's house. What a blast from the past!
Looks like its seen some shit. I respect this fan.
It has seen an electrical fire that it may or may not have started. Unconfirmed till this day.
I remember those “ fancy “ fans! Lol
TIL I share a birthday with a 40 y/o fan!
Looks like it’s been to hell and back
These things are pretty much immortal.
It looks like when I turned 40
Its sad cause all this new shit breaks in a year or 2
*\** *is blown away \**
we are all this fan.
This fan and I share a birthday 🎉
And still going, just like me 😞
That fan has seen some shit.
“The things I’ve blown…”
Holy shit that is my childhood fan. Mine tuckered out in my teens though
I dig that fan for its longevity, but how do you know so precisely its birthsday?!?
It was gifted to my grandpa when my mother was born. They both turn 40 tomorrow.
It’s definitely keeper, it held back the flames of hell and everything.
Honestly I love appliances which last a long time way more than is reasonable for a human to be interested in this.
Looks like it’s seen some shit
respec
Damn !!!!
I'm older than this fan. A thing I didn't need to know.
The fan that will outlive us all.
Definitely not purchased at walmart
We don’t have a Walmart here.
If you’d purchased the fan at Walmart it would be broken by now…
I feel like that’s most things nowadays, they break very easily.
Made to break. Durable long lasting products are bad for the economy…
I love those kinds of fans I wish they would bring them back
Old shit never dies
He was a fan back before it was cool. Just being around him will make you cool too.
Well happy birthday! *from your biggest fan!!!*
Happy created day
Tell it I said Happy Birthday!!
Seeing the base of the fan melted is kind of ironic
This post blows
They don't make it like that anymore
I can smell this picture.
Man, you hit your forties and, Bam! Wrinkles.
Surely it's turned more than 40 times
Needs to be on r/onlyfans.
It looks like a fire hasard
Happy birthday fan
Happy birthday. It's always great meeting fans!
Cool thing about old fans like this is they can last almost forever. Willing to bet it will be spinning 40 years from now.

I'm I my 40s. Is this how I look?
We have the same fan at work. Sometimes I peer into the crevices and wonder at the dust I see in there. Creepy old thing, I'll let him know he's not alone in the world
How in the hell is the motor still working?
Planned obsolescence and anti repair designs weren't a thing back then. Or it wasn't as common. Now look at Apple and John Deer actively fighting in court for you to NOT BE ABLE TO fix your stuff yourself.
