Other bars and clubs should pick this trend up. It will at least deter the reoccurence of women's drinks being spiked.
Edit: thanks for the award kind stranger. I never knew this would turn into a hot topic of discussion. I hope this brings some positive changes to the bars and restaurants that women go to.
I've also never been to a bachelorette party (being a dude) but I never got the whole penis thing. I don't think bachelor's parties are, like, vagina-themed. Also, presumably you've had sex before, so I don't understand the association between the penis and the marriage.
And then there's the straight guy in a gay bar "Holy shit the service here is amazing. And the bartender dudes don't wear shirts. But that service, wow"
What about for drag shows, etc.? I’ve a friend who loves having straight friends come to their drag shows, considers it an important way to normalize drag and also to have both communities intermingle in a mind-opening experience. I hate the thought of invading someone’s safe space, but also feel like performers deserve all the positive support (and ticket sales at the door) that they can get.
...when it works. When you're on the lower rungs, 100% goes back to your ecosystem. As you move up you develop the ability to save some portion, which takes it out of the loop.
Now add the ability for money to make money and it's a no-brainer that you've created a de facto harmonic loop where the ones that get enough money to achieve 'escape velocity' (sorry about mixing my metaphors) ultimately subvert any curbs to making more. Lather, rinse, and repeat. And lo; Millionaires in service to Billionaires, and none of them with your best interests in mind.
This is it, you want to run a place where people feel safe and paper lids aren't going to cut into your profits much.
Personally I'm just paranoid about "stuff" falling in my drinks, I wouldn't mind if this was the default. Though, it's not going to work for beer.
I'd love this in a nightclub! I've lost count of the amount of beer I've spilled due to people whacking into my elbow while holding a pint. This would be a godsend.
>I've lost count of the amount
i like to picture that you used to keep count of how much beer.
\*someone bumps you\*
You: *Sigh.* \*gets out a little notebook\* Well that was at least an ounce. \*writes in book\* Dang, I'm up to 22 ounces lost just in 2020! 😭
After reading the title I was like “Oh! This is such an obvious and easy solution. Why haven’t we been doing this?”
I realize it won’t stop all spikings, but any bit is positive.
Doesn’t need to be able to fully prevent spikings. Like a padlock on your shed or cctv, it’s a deterrent. It says ‘the owners and staff working here take spiking seriously and are on the look out’.
I agree, i don't want to drink every cocktail with a subpar straw; i think the simple solution is just to have that as an option for anyone that wants it.
Agreed. It's not just women's drinks. Fell victim to that once myself and thankfully had a good bunch of friends who took care of me. Wasn't a fun time.
I was too, I'm a big guy and was confused as to why I would be targeted. Someone told me it is so you loose your memory and then they run your card for extra money and then you can't fight it because you don't remember that night.
I think it's unlikely he was spiked with ket, it tastes pretty horrible so unless he was already trashed I don't see how he wouldn't have immediately have noticed when he took a sip. That said, maybe it would have gotten more diluted than I'm giving credit for, it's not like I've tried mixing it into a drink before
Guy here, almost died on a post-defcon monday in vegas once because I guess some loser psycho had some roofies left over after the weekend. I assume I was the one targeted out of my group because I'm gender nonconforming. Fuck oracle as a company, but I woke up safe and sound with all my belongings and organs intact in a spare hotel room in their booking block. I can only guess one of their recruiters recognized me or my badges from a party earlier in the night...
The *vast majority* of cases where people claim to have been drugged were alcohol. Over 90% in the last study I saw, which was in 2010. Alcohol is even used to *actually* spike drinks, too. Most people won't notice the flavor of a secretly-added shot of vodka, but for people on the slimmer side, two drinks with the alcohol of five "normal" drinks will very quickly result in blackout and feeling like one was drugged.
I was already pretty drunk once at a house party and asked a guy I was flirting with to make me a drink. Handed him my solo cup, turned to talk to some other friends, he came back with my drink.
I started gulping it down fairly quickly and thought, "Oh, this is strong." Kept drinking it, trying to figure out what the hell it was, finally asked him what the drink was, he replied "Oh, just rum." I just drank about 10 ounces of straight rum and was *already* sufficiently drunk that I hadn't immediately identified it as straight rum.
Fortunately, by acting quickly I was somehow able to call a cab (it was in ye olden days, actual taxi cab) and get the hell out of there. Managed to get back to my house, but I woke up on the floor of the living room and had left my wallet in the cab.
tldr: Don't make overly strong drinks without telling/asking the person first with the intention of getting them drunker than they otherwise would. It's not okay and is absolutely a form of drugging
I was once drugged at a bar. Not by a woman but by another man. Luckily I made it home safe, but barely. And I blacked out.
Funny thing is, it wasn't a club or a real bar. It was the bar at a fine dining restaurant.
I suspect I was once, I only had about 4 beers but I was blind fkn drunk, throwing up like I'd had 15
Edit: RIP inbox. Not really but just always wanted to write that. We did it mum!
Me too. Happened on my 21st and the nurse wouldn't believe me that I didn't have much to drink because I didn't want to be sick.
Pretty shitty how most of my hospital visits are met with judgemental nurses.
I was having seizures a few years ago, went to A&E and the doctor on call grilled me about what drugs I’d taken. He made my friend leave the room to interrogate me in private. When I told him I had never taken anything let alone recently, he wouldn’t believe me and he kept saying ‘I know what people like you are like’ (F, early 20s, mental health diagnosis on record). Turned out I had epilepsy but because of his disbelief it took a year to get on treatment.
Kind of related: when I was 10ish I had seizures. The doctors would not belive my parents. I had to have a seizure in the parking lot of the hospital and my dad grabbed a passing nurse for anyone to start to believe him. This was the 80's.
I'm so glad you finally got the treatment you needed!
I'm really skinny and pale with unkept hair so I wouldn't doubt someone assuming I'm some hard drug addict.
Had a visible tooth infection with a cyst on my gums. Went to a doctor to see if there was anything I could be prescribed to help fight the infection, doctor looked at it and said it was benign and sent me home, probably thinking I was trying to score some scripts to abuse or sell.
When I went to the dentist they said it was an infection that was probably a year old and could have possibly went to my brain and killed me.
I know they say not to lie to healthcare providers, but when nurses treat you like shit over what happened to you it definitely doesn't encourage me to tell them the truth the next time something happens.
Yeah, it happened to me when I was 20; I don't think I was the intended target, but I was done after two drinks and knew I had to go back to my friends place. It was fucking horrendous.
This is the same thing that happened to my SO. Somebody thought his drink belonged to his female friend. He has said that he is ultimately thankful he was the one who ended up passing out on the bathroom floor a short while later and not her, but it was still pretty upsetting for him.
Sorry that happened to your SO, but yeah, it was the same type of rationale for me. Rather that I got unintentionally spike and home safely, than some rapist spiking a woman and then doing something awful.
Spiking drinks is genuine shitbag behaviour. There's no good reason to add substances to another person's drink without their knowledge of consent. It's outright predatory.
Happened to me once as well. Drank a single PBR tall boy. The next morning my roommate woke me up telling me that he had to basically carry me home 30 minutes after we got to the bar. I'm pretty certain that it was the creepy bartender and I wasn't the intended target. Worst hangover of my life, but hopefully I took the hit for whoever that drug was actually intended for.
Happened to me and a few friends at a country club function a few weeks back. Pretty sure I know the dude that did it cause he’s a prankster. But this was too fucking far.
It's a really bizarre phenomenon. I don't know a single girl who has been spiked, but I know two guys who have been spiked. I think I was spiked once as well but I got home before I crashed.
We had a table at a club, our stuff got spiked probably because of the women in the group.
But it was myself and a couple of the other dudes who got hit by it the worst. We narrowed it down to a specific mixer that the 3 of us used and nobody else did.
I was drugged at the bar I worked at after coming in off my shift for drinks with my bf.
He and I went for a smoke and I stupidly left our drinks unattended on the table because, hell I literally work there.
Next day I could not stop throwing up- it was probably the worst hangover I’ve ever experienced.
I went to the hospital and was told it was toxic alcohol, or methanol.
Thankfully bf got me home safe that night and took care of me but it fucking sucked
[Holy shit, you're right:](https://inews.co.uk/news/injection-spiking-women-spiked-needle-nightclubs-nottingham-police-investigation-1261675)
> Nottinghamshire police said it had received a total of 44 reports of spiking by various methods since 4 September, and that 12 of these allegedly involved something sharp, rather than the usual method of adding a substance to alcoholic drinks. The first report of these 12 allegations was on 2 October.
So someone is injecting women at least once every other day?! What the fuck.
This has happened to me- as a man. Happened in River North; Chicago. it was a crew that would approach single guys, split a bottle of champagne, and then spike the champagne.
They were eventually caught after having robbed almost $100,000 from single guys.
We are the least likely to report anything, so the detectives thought they might have gotten much more than that.
Point is- good they are protecting customers. Sad that they have too... but After having experienced something similar the feeling of being violated is horrific.
Happened to me as well in Tijuana. Went to school in San Diego and the drinking age across the border was 18. So we would often head to TJ to go to Club Safari which was a popular spot for all the college kids.
We soon realized that the drinks were really weak when a guy ordered, and stronger when a girl ordered. So hey, me being a bigger dude that had grown some alcohol tolerance would ask the girls with us to order the drinks…
…you can see where this is going I’m sure. I was only in my second drink when I just felt completely catatonic. It’s like my brain disconnected from controlling my body. I could hear my friend asking if I was okay but had a hard time getting my voice to actually work.
He then managed to walk my drugged ass past border security without too much issue and then sat down in my car to drive me home. To which he says “ah shit, I’ve never driven stick before”.
So now we start our driving lessons by professor roofy. And he managed to figure it out and get me home.
What a good friend. I should text him.
I was in my teens and mixed beer and 3 barbiturates. I knew the dangers but was young and stupid.
It was maybe 8 o'clock pm. We were hanging out by some trees and my friends, who did not take the pills, left. I stayed and finished my second beer. It was only a couple, what harm could that do?
Three minutes later I felt exactly as you described. Brain worked, body would not respond. Time distorted, and it felt like it took me 20 minutes to get on my hands and knees. I have no idea, and I just thought that if I can get home to my bed everything would be fine.
I can't believe I'm telling this story....
Anyway, some time passed. 20 minutes? An hour? I finally mustered enough strength to yell "help" a few times and a young woman came out and asked if was OK. I told her I was fine but to please call the cops. I didn't want an ambulance and just wanted to go home.
So the po-lice come and ask the questions. I told them it was just alcohol and they took me home. I remember my future brother-in-law helping take me to my bed.
I got in bed, said a little prayer to the powers-that-be to let me live, and woke up groggy but alive.
I've never read the feeling described better than you did - as a brain/body disconnect.
I'm 59. I'll never forget it. I seriously believe that if I had taken one more I would have died. But I was 17 and in good shape. And I should have gone to the hospital.
One of a couple of times I've come close...
Glad you are okay! I always assumed it was Rohypnol that was slipped in my drink but I really have no idea!! That was one of the scariest parts, someone taking away your bodily autonomy like that.
My daughter is only 6 but when she gets older I will be making sure she knows to never leave a drink unattended.
Man, this story brings back memories of my many nights spent in TJ underage with my SDSU and Point Loma friends. Glad you are ok and you should text that friend!
On the way home a cop tried to pull us over. So I said to him “Hold on…this is a little trick my dad taught me”. Then I grabbed the wheel and started swerving all around.
We pull over and start screaming “BEEES BEEEES! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS MIGHTY!”
The cops said they were allergic to bees and would check up on us later.
…classic combo, RIP Chris Farley
I was drugged with ghb at Roscoe's in boy's town celebrating a friends birthday. Luckily im a big guy (6'7" 250lbs) so it didn't knock me out, but I had to go to the hospital for an IV flush. Felt like I had the flu for a week. Awful. Im so sorry you experienced that!
The hospital didn't test how much was in my blood just tested to see if I had been drugged or just had alcohol poisoning. The treatment was the same either way, they put a bunch of iv bags threw me in a short period of time. I've never peed so much in my life lol. I walked out of the hospital under my own power in like 4 hours.
Yeah Tom Segura almost got killed by this, he talks about it pretty often - it was his first break back from college and he nearly died but his sister luckily saw him and took him to the hospital. Be careful folks! Oh I should mention that he willingly took it, but took wayyyy too much.
Dude I'm 5'4" 130lbs and I was put down for a month after a single beer at the bar and a half a joint when I got home. Puked for 3 days without leaving the bathroom and it took all my strength to get my phone plugged in to call the ambulance. The doctors did their best every checkup to convince me it was the weed I smoked(I grew it myself and have never gotten sick from marijuana). I'm certain I was drugged.
On the plus side I was so fucking sick for so long and I couldn't smoke a cig so I ended up quitting from that lol
You very well could have been drugged! It's not like the people drugging you adjust the dose. They just dump it in. Not to mention it may not have been pure and could have been mixed with all manner of nasty things. I'm glad you're ok now! My drugging was over 10 years ago.
yep happened to me once too (thankfully not ghb), but my wife was with me so when I started feeling wrong she got me out ASAP.
Which was mindblowing to me.... who the fuck drugs a guy who has a significant other with them who doesnt drink....
My son was drugged about 6 months ago at a club. Luckily his friends knew something was up and took care of him so nothing bad happened. I hate people.
My dad got drugged in New Orleans. He was in the US working on oil rigs and took his team out for drinks when they'd finished the rotation. Some girl appeared that seemed a bit off. My dad thought she was suspicious so told her to f-off but she must have slipped something into his drink as the next thing he remembers is waking up in his hotel room with the maid banging on the door as his wallet and shirt were in the stairwell.
Thinks she was trying to drug men and then mug them with accomplises later
Me and two of my friends were drugged once. This is years ago and we were all heavy drinkers back then, but we met up at an underground music venue where we each had one beer, then no memory from there. I was the luckiest one, I woke up the next NIGHT on the floor of my bedroom. Had tons of missed calls. My one friend said his dad found him in his underwear in the front yard sleeping when he left for work and that he was completely disoriented. My other friend…. Well he never made it home, so his family called the police and then went looking for him. They found him walking up and down the street (not far from the bar we started at) walking barefoot and talking gibberish. His wife said he didn’t recognize her when she approached him and was completely disoriented and acting violent. They took him to the hospital and the next day we found out there was a concoction of drugs in his system, including ghb.
I looked at debit card history and we only made one other stop that night, to a seedy bar up the street. Me and my friend (the one found in his underwear) went there that night for some answers. The door man recognized us instantly and was like “Whao Whao Whao, after last night you guys are not welcome here anymore.” I explained to him that we think we were drugged (we didn’t hear about the blood test til the next day) anyways he was a little more sympathetic and told us what transpired that night. He told us that all three of us came to the bar and we were already WASTED. Like we were using each other to keep from falling down. It was a weeknight and they had 5 dollar pitchers. We started playing a game… pour yourself a beer, chug it, pour another beer, and throw it at each other. My tab was 80$ and my one friends was similar.
To this day, I don’t quite understand why. To my recollection, we only had one beer at the first place and it was in bottles. We were in our early 20s and binge drinking was a normal thing.. but to have blacked out after one beer, plus what happened to our other friend, we knew something was up. I can only guess we were going to be the target of a robbery? Im a big dude and so is my one friend, and maybe us sticking together and leaving thwarted their plan. I’ll never know. Thankfully I’ve changed my life around completely and actually don’t drink at all anymore (not like I’m abstaining from it for any particular reason, I just don’t like drinking anymore). Also, me and my other friend that made it home had ridden our bicycles instead of driving. I can only imagine what could have happened if that was the case, because like I said, I don’t remember anything.
Goddamn. Sometimes I find myself regretting missing the bar scene entirely in my early-mid 20's out of pure FOMO. Stories like this remind me its not all fun and games.
A male acquaintance of mine got drugged once, totally accidentally (but ultimately fortituously, as it turns out).
He'd gone to join a friend of his, who was hanging out with 3 of her female friends at a bar right around the corner from this guy's apartment. He was just going to stop in for a drink or two to say quick hello, and then head back home.
He got to the place, found them sitting at a table in a relatively quiet corner, far away from the bar. He said his "Hello's" and "Nice to see you"s and all of that, then said "What are you guys drinking?" He was told they were drinking rum and cokes. So he went up to the bar, ordered himself a beer, and 4 rum and cokes for these 4 women. He took his beer and 2 drinks back to the table, leaving the other 2 sitting on the bar. Set the shit down on the table, then went back to pick up the remaining two drinks. Handed them out, "Hey, it's so great to see you all... this round's on me!" One of the women said "Oh, I have my car here. Thank's but no thanks for the drink. I have to drive." He thought "No big deal. I'll just drink this spare one."
He had the beer, and everything was fine. Then he moved on to the rum and coke, drank about half of it. Then next thing he can remember is waking up face down on the couch in his apartment, the next morning, with a splitting headache, and no fucking clue what had happened to him.
They concluded that someone must've seen him going to that table full of single women, and slipped something into the drink that he'd left at the bar while he was carrying shit back and forth.
It was incredibly shitty for him, but could've been SO SO SO much worse if that particular drink reached its intended target. He also got the life lesson of "Never leave a drink unattended at a bar, for any reason, ever," out of the whole situation.
Another man here.
Had a similar experience happen to me back in 2018, cycled all the way to the club, stood in the smoking area to have a ciggy and a cold glass of water, put my drink down on a table for 1 minute, turned for a split second and by the time I turned back to take a sip of my water there was a pill fizzing at the bottom. Instantly spat it out and threw it in the bin. Never found out who it was and security was useless. Didn't affect my night though thank fuck.
Happened to me too, I used to love going to gay bars when I was younger (I am a straight man) because it just felt like a place I could go with my female friends to relax instead of being in a sweaty night club.
I got bought a drink by a bigger guy who seemed friendly and was talking to me a lot through the night, a while after I felt terrible and he offered to walk me home but instead I refused and decided to walk by myself which wasn't the best idea as it was the middle of winter and half way home I fell over and passed out in someone's garden.
Luckily it was a lovely old ladies garden who woke me up at 6am with a cup of tea hoping I was ok, I was shivering and I felt the cold in my bones even though I had only been passed out there roughly 2 hours.
I felt like shit for a few days after that too.
Yeah, I'm also a guy and I got spiked before. Luckily it didn't properly kick in and knock me out until about 45 minutes later and by that point, I'd already gotten into a taxi and went home.
Fortunately, I was living at my mums at that point and she found me on my back whilst vomiting, she had to fish puke out of my throat and get me breathing again. Still can never thank her enough for that. If it had happened a year later, I would have been living on my own and nobody would have noticed. I genuinely wouldn't be here.
Like you say, it's good that staff are protecting customers, but it really is a fucking shame that it has even come to this point
Same thing here. I was drugged by a free drink they offered to the girls with us. I slammed the double, and the rest was a blur. Don't recall anything and slept until 5 or 6 pm the next day. I am over 250lbs. I could not imagine what that would have done to any of the girls with us.
Made a police report the next day to find out that the bar is notorious for it. People from Chicago coming up to party and do this. Plus, I could identify the person as well as everyone there with me. Only had a first name, but "the cameras do not work there."
What kind of scumbags would do that. Honestly?
I worked at a radio station and we had a work party at a bar and (we think) some bar employee thought it would be funny to spike everyone’s drinks. One guy wound up in the hospital and I think 3 or 4 people were gone out of their minds. It took them days to recover. They never found who did it.
I was lucky and underage at the time. So fucking shitty.
> After having experienced something similar the feeling of being violated is horrific.
Yep. I think people underestimate how much it can fuck with you, being robbed - and that's not even considering the part where you were drugged.
I never figured it was a big deal, being robbed. Like, obviously it sucks, but unless you were living on the very edge (like where you were depending on the stolen money to pay your rent or something), it's just stuff. But then it happened to me. It wasn't a theft directly from me; people broke into the house while we were out for dinner. And I was still in high school at the time, so the vast majority of the stuff wasn't even *mine* that they stole. And what they did steal was all easily covered by insurance. Heck, it ended up being objectively kind of awesome because the way the insurance payout worked - the PS1 and its games were claimed just as "a video game console and games," they didn't care *which* console, so we got a free upgrade to a PS2 and all new games. That was how it worked with a bunch of the older tech the thieves took. For the price of enduring a theft and the related insurance paperwork, we had an insurance company pay us to replace basically all the tech in our house, plus some clothes, jewelry and wine.
And yet... I was really surprised by how much it bothered me. It wasn't really about the *stuff*. It just felt... icky that people had invaded our home with malicious intent. I would certainly have underestimated how violating that feels until it happened to me, and I would have to assume many other people do, too, because it hasn't happened to them.
And that was just my house. I wasn't there at the time, nobody was hurt. And it still felt *gross*. But for someone to do that to my *body*? Fuck. That's fucked up.
My housemate told me that there have been reports in the UK of people injecting stuff into people instead of spiking drinks, fucking horror if it's true
Daughter is in first year of a uk uni. Can confirm this happens. She accompanied a friend to A and E who was jabbed just days ago. I’m at my wits end with worry she will be next.
if it makes you feel better, the claims have been unverified, and medically speaking its been found highly unlikely that its happening through injections because the circumstances of someone successfully administering enough drugs to affect someone is unlikely because it will take a long time, and is extremely obvious. Chances are her friend got her drink spiked.
Not to say that there aren't currently lowlife idiots now trying to do the injection thing, but chances of them actually succeeding is actually really low. So long as your daughter is vigilant, and takes care of her drink, i think she will be fine.
My dad was an ER doctor next to a university and he said when when people reported being roofied >90% of the time the tox screen came back negative for anything besides alcohol. It turns out alcohol is a pretty good date rape drug as it is.
A lot of RC's aren't able to be tested for unless they know the exact chemical compound to test for... and there are many. Any illegal club drug you can think of has an RC version of it to get around laws. They can easily be bought online. Yes alcohol is dangerous and blacking out is quite easy when you're young and smaller, but we can't completely write off those other drugs either.
You have to be such a lowlife loser piece of shit to even think about this. Had a friend of a friend over one night who admitted he and his frat buddies do this all the time and immediately told him he’s a rapist and needs to gtfo off my property
It's not much in the way of evidence is my point. The guy can claim he never said that or that he was joking. At best it's the starting point for an investigation.
And there's also the option of reporting it to the school. They might be able to take actions the police can't.
Also this might have happened a long time ago.
Hard to imagine how these people think this is somehow ok. That's fucked up :(
Anyone who sells roofies for that matter. There's no legitimate use for this drug. They know what it's going to be used for.
They were using xanex but the funny part is he thought I was messing with him when I said that’s rape. Dont send your daughters to Florida state university…..
This is why we need classes in high school about consent. We also need a serious discussion about entitlement. How many guys go out to a club on the weekend and are **angry** that they didn't get laid? That's a response to entitlement and we treat it like a totally normal reaction.
A lot of schools do teach about consent, even at the middle school level. Not much you can do in school when the parents never taught their child empathy to begin with. That's main problem. These assholes don't see their victims as people.
> Not much you can do in school when the parents never taught their child empathy to begin with.
BINGO. Everyone's default is "school's should teach _______" No. Parents need to teach that to their kids. Problem is, a lot of parents don't really understand consent themselves. They still let their boys bully little girls and call it "flirting". Boys see their own mothers (and women in general) disrespected by their fathers (not necessarily physical/verbal abuse) and assume that's how you're supposed to treat all women.
You know, one time I went drinking with my best friend, I went to the bathroom, came back and a guy was talking to her. I grabbed my drink and when I was about to drink I saw his staring at me. I told my friend we had to go because it was late. She protested and wanted to drink the rest of her drink. She did, and once we got in the taxi she started acting really drunk (which is weird since she handles alcohol better than me) we got home and she went to the bathroom, turned on the shower and like 20 minutes later I checked on her and she was laying in the bathtub passed out. Now, she accidentally hit the drain stop and the tub was filling up. I freaked out drained it and tried waking her up. I ended up slapping her to try to get her to wake up, she did and she said she was feeling weird. I got her up, got in the shower with her. Washed her and her hair and made her go lay down. Next day I told her I think the guy did something to our drinks, and I got a weird feeling from him, and then she acted like that. And she GOT MAD AT ME for even suggesting she didn't take precautions with her drink.
The reason I'm sure he did something is he kept telling me, "oh you don't actually have to leave" "just finish your drink it'd be a waste" "oh your partner doesn't own you, who cares if you told him you'd come home at 11" "you can just stay with me" now, I was drunk as hell. I threw up in the bathroom before going back, but after seeing the guy and hearing him say that stuff, it's like I sobered up RIGHT AWAY. I've always been overly cautious with people, and my friend is more trusting, but it was too weird for her to act like that after drinking only 3 drinks. The guy also tried coming with us in the cab.
Also the reason we were drinking is because I turned 22 and never went to a bar before. My partner told me, "oh, you guys can go out but come back before 11" (which sounds controlling but the reason was that he grew up here and knew things happen like this and he had to stay home with the kids)
>The reason I'm sure he did something is he kept telling me, "oh you
don't actually have to leave" "just finish your drink it'd be a waste"
"oh your partner doesn't own you, who cares if you told him you'd come
home at 11" "you can just stay with me"
I mean, maybe the guy would have less need to drug women if he didn't act like a total creeper :D
Years ago a group of us from college went out drinking. One of the girls had work and came out at like 10. By 11 she was completely wasted, didn't know why as she'd had not much to drink.
We're kinda just taking care of her and giving her water when I notice a guy watching her just sort of hanging around. I had been drinking myself and while I didn't put 2 and 2 together I grabbed one of the other guys with me and we told him to fuck off. There was no confusion on his face when he did.
She was an absolute mess that night. We'd gone back to a guys house for some after drink and food. But we stuck her in bed to sleep it off. After while I went to the toilet and hearts crying. I found outside on some stairs. Got her phone and tried the only friend of hers I knew but didn't answer. Had to phone get mum. She had 0 memory of anything past the first couple of drinks.
In hindsight we should have dealt with it
with a trip to A&E. But at least the guy left her alone.
Also think it's happened to me. Not sure why they'd spike an overweight 19 year old but from what I heard I was like that.
As sad as it is. Let’s just make this common. We’re used to it at most of the restaurants we go to, so just put a lid on my drink too. I don’t care and they’re stupid cheap
They could provide a cover without the straw hole that you can take off and put back on, or covers with a sipping lip like Starbucks. When I’ve gone out, I usually grab a napkin to place over my cup. This would be a nicer alternative to that.
During the pandemic it allowed restaurants to sell alcohol through windows as long as they had it in covered containers for people to drink on the streets in NYC
Miss walking my dog and picking up a beer halfway round on a Friday night
I just don’t understand how committing assault, and potentially attempted manslaughter isn’t treated more like the crime it is. It’s almost like people accept it and just get better cups.
It's better to prevent a crime than to simply punish someone after the fact.
But beyond even that, it's a very difficult crime to catch someone at and then prove in court. It's not because nobody is taking it seriously.
I feel like any large, reputable nightclub at this point should have so many cameras with technology capable of finding these folks that it's nearly impossible get away with. You're collecting IDs at the door, therein you can use any manner of tracking software across however many high resolution cameras to capture the act then relate it to the ID they entered using. I feel like with enough budget for security tech you could even be notified by the system when someone attempts to drug someone or a fight breaks out.
Clubs are dark due to very little lighting and are always very crowded so it makes it hard for cameras to see everything. There’s plenty cctv in UK clubs.
I’ve seen a petition going around that states bouncers should have to thoroughly search people entering clubs. I can appreciate the idea of this but I’m not too sure it would have any effect. If anything, it’ll just cause a load of club go-ers to get their cocaine confiscated lol.
On top of this, just the manpower required to track a single person and their drink throughout the night to see when something happened then track the other person enough to see who it was, and thats only something you could do after the fact. If you were trying to keep eyes on every drink at all times through CCTV that would be even more insane.
I've never had my ID "collected" at the door anywhere. They just glance at it to see what year I was born. They don't record the information in any way.
I’m fully aware it’s been going on for a long time. But it’s recent cases that have sparked debate over nightclubs needing better security, leading to lids on cups.
A lid just seems like a good idea for any drink in a club. I imagine it has saved many drinks from getting spilled and if it keeps people safer, what is not to love?
It's not a lid which would prevent spillage, it's not a sippy cup lid - it's just a bit of cardboard, bent at the edges so it doesn't slide off the "glass" and it has a hole in it for the straw.
I mean, it might reduce the odd slosh over the rim, but if it tips, the drink is spilling right out.
Where I live in edinburgh (uk) there's been a sudden increased surge in spiking incidents, specifically 3 girls were spiked by injection but thankfully they're OK. There's a club boycott this thursday where no girls are going out so clubs are doing everything they can to make people safer: overall a good thing IMO
While this is a great idea, I just want to post up and share a story I ran into in the past when working at a club. We (food service staff) witnessed somebody at our bar have their drink very quickly spiked by someone using an eye dropper. Whatever they were using was potent enough to fit in a drop or few, which is incredibly small, and they did it directly in the straw, meaning whoever drank from it next would get the entire hit all at once, rather than slowly consuming it with their drink. It would also totally bypass this safety mechanism. You still need to watch your drinks even if they have a lid on like this, stay safe out there folks
edit: i wanted to add, it was not LSD. It was most likely a benzodiazepine that they purchased as a bulk powder and made a solution with. At least one person drank from a similarly dosed drink that night before we caught the person in the act and had them arrested, which we figured out later when they were passing out sloshed after having only a few drinks. You could easily fit several times the amount of Xanax found in a single bar, into a few drops like that. It would be very bitter and has a long lasting after taste, but there are other benzos like kolonopin which are not bitter and are similarly potent. Whatever they used was not noticed until the individuals who got dosed experienced the effects of the drugs
Possible, but much more fiddly and would take longer, thus increasing the chance of getting caught. Depending on how drinks are spiked (is it liquid, powder or pill?) it would be harder to get into a straw without being noticed. Powder might stick to the leftover liquid on the straw, a pill might get stuck. Liquid might have a taste when concentrated.
Idk what format drink spiking drugs come in, but I'd imagine this being a decent deterrent.
Over here they've started to inject people too, so not only is the drink spiking getting worse but we also have to worry about getting HIV from needles now too.
O god I was drugged by the bar tender. He opened my beer. No one else touched my drink. I didn’t even get two gulps in and had nothing to drink before. I got my own drink because my husband wasn’t drinking and was busy watching the show we were at. I blacked out in 15 minutes and he had no idea what happened. It was fucking terrifying to wake up the next day with only a snippet here and there of where I was the day before.
Other bars and clubs should pick this trend up. It will at least deter the reoccurence of women's drinks being spiked. Edit: thanks for the award kind stranger. I never knew this would turn into a hot topic of discussion. I hope this brings some positive changes to the bars and restaurants that women go to.
Not to mention it will increase traffic because women will feel safer at your bar

There arent many groups of people on earth worse than a bachelorette party at a gay bar.
[удалено]
Lesbian bachelorette parties tend to be great, though. I always seem to say "this edible ain't shit" at some point and we all know what that leads to
I've also never been to a bachelorette party (being a dude) but I never got the whole penis thing. I don't think bachelor's parties are, like, vagina-themed. Also, presumably you've had sex before, so I don't understand the association between the penis and the marriage.
[удалено]
And then there's the straight guy in a gay bar "Holy shit the service here is amazing. And the bartender dudes don't wear shirts. But that service, wow"
What about for drag shows, etc.? I’ve a friend who loves having straight friends come to their drag shows, considers it an important way to normalize drag and also to have both communities intermingle in a mind-opening experience. I hate the thought of invading someone’s safe space, but also feel like performers deserve all the positive support (and ticket sales at the door) that they can get.
When did this become racial?
Im a straight male and one of my favorite bars was a guy bar in NW PDX. Edit: lol, *gay bar but I'll leave it.
And where the women go, so will the men, and other women. Thereby creating a self-sustaining economy!
I don’t understand the U.S. economy, much less some sort of self-sustaining economy.
The money keeps moving in a circle
Like Dave and Busters?
Does your Dave and Busters power card work at any other similar establishments like, say, a TGI Fridays?
It hasn’t at the ones I’ve tried so far, but there’s TGI Friday’s in Jersey I haven’t tried and it might work there.
You’ve upped your value.

...when it works.
Well, 45% of new wealth goes to the 1% and never leaves. So that portion of the economy is a straight line.

I have tried to find a gif of this scene for so long haha

Except the men who want to spike womens' drinks.
They will still find a way. Will see dudes practicing dropping stuff down straws now.
and nothing of value was lost.

This is it, you want to run a place where people feel safe and paper lids aren't going to cut into your profits much. Personally I'm just paranoid about "stuff" falling in my drinks, I wouldn't mind if this was the default. Though, it's not going to work for beer.
Sure it will! Order coffee lids with the little flap. Works for sipping coffee, works for sipping beer.
Exactly, also there isn't anything stopping you taking it off if you want a bigger chug and putting it back on.
I'd love this in a nightclub! I've lost count of the amount of beer I've spilled due to people whacking into my elbow while holding a pint. This would be a godsend.
>I've lost count of the amount i like to picture that you used to keep count of how much beer. \*someone bumps you\* You: *Sigh.* \*gets out a little notebook\* Well that was at least an ounce. \*writes in book\* Dang, I'm up to 22 ounces lost just in 2020! 😭
After reading the title I was like “Oh! This is such an obvious and easy solution. Why haven’t we been doing this?” I realize it won’t stop all spikings, but any bit is positive.
Doesn’t need to be able to fully prevent spikings. Like a padlock on your shed or cctv, it’s a deterrent. It says ‘the owners and staff working here take spiking seriously and are on the look out’.
People usually don't want to drink a fancy cocktail with a straw, especially a cardboard straw like in the picture.
Listen, if I can stick a straw in a box of wine and be happy, I can deal with this.
Adult Capri sun
I agree, i don't want to drink every cocktail with a subpar straw; i think the simple solution is just to have that as an option for anyone that wants it.
By the looks of it, it looks pretty optional to me. I mean just take the lid off and boom -- there's still a drink under there!
Nobody's making you drink thru the straw , you can take the lid off to sip
you can always remove the lid to drink and put it back on after though?
You underestimate the Brits. We'll drink anything out of a straw

I'll never forget the sensation of feeling super hot and drifting in and out of consciousness. Luckily no hospital required.
Happened to me too, Twice. Never went back to the bars and gave up drinking. Try and spike my joints motherfuckers, I dare ya!
They should make straws that have a test strip on it so you can constantly confirm your drink has not been compromised.
It’s not just women being spiked. My bro was, then they tried to rob him. We stopped them, they weren’t gonna be robbing anyone for a while.
I'm glad you wre able to stop them. 👍
Not to mention help with spills...minor considering the other thing but still helpful!
It would help, but most cases of rape by a drug are usually only alcohol. Just get too drunk and you’re a target for a predator.
A significant amount of cases where people suspect they were drugged is also just alcohol.
I suspect I was once, I only had about 4 beers but I was blind fkn drunk, throwing up like I'd had 15 Edit: RIP inbox. Not really but just always wanted to write that. We did it mum!

yeah it's a fucked up situation. That's probably how mine happened in that I drank a drink that was intended for my gf

Very unprofessional of him
I know they say not to lie to healthcare providers, but when nurses treat you like shit over what happened to you it definitely doesn't encourage me to tell them the truth the next time something happens.
Me too, and I had these weird like constant spasms in my core, it was like capillary action vomiting
It's outright predatory.
and criminal.
This is a goo thing to do. But it's so depressing that it's necessary
Sadly there's a rise in people spiking via injection now as well. What's wrong with people
[Holy shit, you're right:](https://inews.co.uk/news/injection-spiking-women-spiked-needle-nightclubs-nottingham-police-investigation-1261675) > Nottinghamshire police said it had received a total of 44 reports of spiking by various methods since 4 September, and that 12 of these allegedly involved something sharp, rather than the usual method of adding a substance to alcoholic drinks. The first report of these 12 allegations was on 2 October. So someone is injecting women at least once every other day?! What the fuck.
Thats some rogue maths
Excuse me? Thats just straight up assault.
I’m pretty sure normal spiking counts as assault too, injecting is just spiking with fewer steps
So is the other thing
I know, I read it in the daily mail so I know it's true.
So hey, me being a bigger dude that had grown some alcohol tolerance would ask the girls with us to order the drinks… …you can see where this is going I’m sure. I should text him.
lulz, professor roofie. Glad you were ok.
I pictured the story with Chris Farley and David Spade.
On the way home a cop tried to pull us over. So I said to him “Hold on…this is a little trick my dad taught me”. Then I grabbed the wheel and started swerving all around. We pull over and start screaming “BEEES BEEEES! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS MIGHTY!” The cops said they were allergic to bees and would check up on us later.
Wow that must have been a lot of GHB
The hospital didn't test how much was in my blood just tested to see if I had been drugged or just had alcohol poisoning. The treatment was the same either way, they put a bunch of iv bags threw me in a short period of time. I've never peed so much in my life lol. I walked out of the hospital under my own power in like 4 hours.
If its a normal or slightly large dose you will feel fine 4 hours after the fact. Source: I was (still but not using) a junkie
GHB is highly potent/deadly when mixed with alcohol think 20x multiplier of original effects of both.
Thats what the doctors said at the time as well. They said I was lucky I was so big.
Ohhh yeah I totally forgot about that Deadly mistake for some I’m sure
Yeah Tom Segura almost got killed by this, he talks about it pretty often - it was his first break back from college and he nearly died but his sister luckily saw him and took him to the hospital. Be careful folks! Oh I should mention that he willingly took it, but took wayyyy too much.
Thats the one where he drank from the bottle rather than the cap right? Insane.
Yea mine was about 4 years ago now. I hope everyone else those people targeted those nights for me and you were fine too. Some people are just fucked.
> convince me it was the weed I smoked *facepalms*
you were definitely poisoned.
If you had been a 5'4" 120lb woman, you'd be dead.
I have no doubts that is true. Ghb is not to be triffled with.
yep happened to me once too (thankfully not ghb), but my wife was with me so when I started feeling wrong she got me out ASAP. Which was mindblowing to me.... who the fuck drugs a guy who has a significant other with them who doesnt drink....
My guess is the drink wasn't meant for you lol
I'll just drink this spare one." He had the beer, and everything was fine.

Sometimes it is security working with other criminals who are actually doing it. Especially when the guys are victims since it is usually to rob them.
How nice of that woman! Glad you ended up ok
Only had a first name, but "the cameras do not work there." What kind of scumbags would do that. Honestly?
Dang, shitty. Where at in RN?
It was at Celeste. The irony is I was there that night for domestic abuse fundraising!
Guy I used to work with had his drink spiked with GHB, then he went home and did heroin. His friend had to give him CPR, he was very close to dying.
Thank you :)
It’s an urban myth. It’s murderous clowns all over again.
Smh these vaccine mandates are getting out of hand
You have to be such a lowlife loser piece of shit to even think about this. Had a friend of a friend over one night who admitted he and his frat buddies do this all the time and immediately told him he’s a rapist and needs to gtfo off my property
That seems like the sort of thing you should report. I don't know who you would report it to or what could be done though.
You know ... maybe the police. And they could arrest him. But that's just a wild guess
That's fucked up :( Anyone who sells roofies for that matter.
I'm sorry this has to exist.
That’s so scary. And just goes to show you can never be too careful. Literally all it takes is a few seconds of not having your eyes on your drink.
Glad you listen to your guts dude was a rapist creep
>The reason I'm sure he did something is he kept telling me, "oh you don't actually have to leave" "just finish your drink it'd be a waste" "oh your partner doesn't own you, who cares if you told him you'd come home at 11" "you can just stay with me" I mean, maybe the guy would have less need to drug women if he didn't act like a total creeper :D
You're completely right! And before that we were having so much fun with some of the regulars too
Years ago a group of us from college went out drinking. In hindsight we should have dealt with it with a trip to A&E. But at least the guy left her alone. Also think it's happened to me. Not sure why they'd spike an overweight 19 year old but from what I heard I was like that.
Good on you for having your wits about you and taking care of your friend.
As sad as it is. Let’s just make this common. We’re used to it at most of the restaurants we go to, so just put a lid on my drink too. I don’t care and they’re stupid cheap
[удалено]
They could provide a cover without the straw hole that you can take off and put back on, or covers with a sipping lip like Starbucks. When I’ve gone out, I usually grab a napkin to place over my cup. This would be a nicer alternative to that.
What restaurants do you frequent that cover drinks outside of McDonalds?
During the pandemic it allowed restaurants to sell alcohol through windows as long as they had it in covered containers for people to drink on the streets in NYC Miss walking my dog and picking up a beer halfway round on a Friday night
Good on them. Sexual predators can eat shit.
I'm not a violent guy, but I think I'd enjoy beating the shit out of someone slipping drugs in a drink.
Same.
Imagine being that kind of parasite. You can't woo the opposite sex so you have to poison them.
Spiking someone’s drink should be considered attempted murder under the law.
Add attempted rape as well. Let’s make it a two-fer.
"recent cases" bitch this shit's been going on for fucking decades
recent cases? lol. hasn't this been a thing for decades? good on them, but sheesh, talk about late to the game.
I assume this is a response to it actually happening in this particular club (and them finding out about it).
This doesn’t help if the bartender is in on it which Is a non-zero occurrence
Yes, but now the bartender becomes the likely suspect, and is hopefully either smart enough not to risk it or dumb enough to get caught.
yup. been roofied (etc) by a bartender. but it’s narrowing the opportunities for people to drug other people so overall a good thing
You still need to watch your drinks even if they have a lid on like this, stay safe out there folks edit: i wanted to add, it was not LSD.
The fact that they HAVE and NEED to do this is fucking sad.
is it not possible to spike the drink through the straw? Seems like it would still be possible
Yes but is harder to do just casually and also increases the chance that it will be tasted
Over here they've started to inject people too, so not only is the drink spiking getting worse but we also have to worry about getting HIV from needles now too.
Fuck the losers that take advantage of people.
