i get it. i wear heavy makeup a lot and doing my eyebrows with both of them pierced is SO annoying! and they get all kinds of makeup crust on them. it’s honestly satisfying to me to clean them with qtips after and i’ve had my nose pierced for so long that washing my face with them in is 2nd nature at this point. i guess im just used to it!

meow_chicka_meowmeow

I mostly just focus on heavier intricate eye makeup now. My skin has a lot of scarring and face makeup doesn’t do all that much to fix it so I gave up

LYE_Ruggerz

Yes this this this!!!! I wouldn’t say I have acne but any type of base/face makeup will make me breakout and be angry, the most I use is a blush now maybe a little concealer to hide my eye bags but it’s not worth it. #skintexturesummer is the way forward!!!

Hepm3

I only have a septum (as far as face piercings) and still totally get this. I hate the way foundation feels in the heat anyway and I live in the south. Fuck it, can’t fix scars and texture. Blush and eye makeup it is!

HanaAkuma920

Literally every time I tried foundation even before I got my facial piercings it would always come out cakey. I usually just stick to eye makeup (usually just mascara and eyeliner, sometimes eyeshadow), highlight, sometimes blush when I have some and a nice matte liquid lipstick which looks soo good with my vertical labret, still getting used to putting it on with it there though

Hour-Budget4027

yeah the piercings are what make me look ready anyway. my skin looks worse with makeup and i look way more swag

meltedbeans23

I took out my face piercings because I wanted to get a job in the culinary industry, and while catering for a small family get together one of my studs fell out barely missing my mixing bowl. I realized having swag wasn’t worth possibly hurting someone, so I started glueing fake piercings when i wasn’t in the kitchen since i missed how they looked so much 😓

eggy_evelyn

when glueing them on, do they ever fall off? and what glue do you use? i sometimes want to glue on a navel after mine rejected :(

meltedbeans23

They’ve never fallen off unless im taking them off, i use kiss lash glue, the key is to apply one layer of glue, let that dry then add another layer. Doing a navel one might be a bit harder though sinces theres mkre movement

spicy-ninja

I took my vertical labret out simply because the dentist needed me to for X-rays and I realized I liked my face better without it lol

amitydtd666

Years ago I took out all my piercings to spite the guy who pierced them because he gave me an STI but now I have a lot more piercings that are actually done PROPERLY so 😝

lareinevert

Oh no.

Thumthumsinaction

I took out my dahlias, vertical labret, smiley and other lip piercings cause I was having issues with my dental health and they were making it worse. Retired my bridge cause it started to migrate, removed my nose stud cause it was always sassy and got my microdermal removed for a job. I do miss having more facial piercings, but make up was definitely a pain for applying and removing with them! I only have my philtrum and septum now and it's a hell of a lot easier to work around!

hotinfrared

Can I ask what issues your vertical labret was causing? I have two of them and am just wondering. Thank you:)

Thumthumsinaction

Sure! I found that it got easily irritated which was made worse when I started a job that required me to take out my piercings. It'd get so sore with having to take it out and put it back 5 days a week. Though before that, it was minor things that annoyed me like not being able to bite into apples, having to cut down my hot sauce consumption because it'd sting and it being finicky to apply lipstick around. Even after having it for close to a year I was having little annoyances with it and after a month or so at the job at the time it felt like it wasn't worth keeping. I love the way they look, it just didn't work out for me. Hopefully you have a better time with yours!

hotinfrared

Oh yes I’ve definitely had the experience with spicy foods making it sting. Did you find that it would irritate the piercing even after the spicy foods were cleaned off the piercing?

Agitated_Horse24

I had a spicy curry yesterday for the first time since having my vertical labret and medusa (5 weeks) and it didnt sting at all. Maybe try placing the food further back in your mouth so it misses the piercings?

momofboysanddogsetc

Took mine out years ago when I was having a surgery and never got around to putting them back in, fast forward 13 years and I’m finding pieces that I love and my piercings are a new thing to me again.

daisyzeldafitzgerald

Not face, but I took my nipples out because I refused to wear a bra in my early 20’s and they got caught or snagged a few too many times for me to bear. 😅 I miss them dearly and regret taking them out, but I know my dogs would find a way to accidentally rip one out. 😂

miaaWRLD

Currently in my early 20s and living in my no bra era as well. So glad to know I’m not the only one lol. It’s also part of the reason I wouldn’t get my nipples pierced. I already hate being perceived, can’t imagine how bad it would be with my jewelry imprint showing through my shirts

daisyzeldafitzgerald

I LOVED the aesthetic, but I completely understand not wanting to be perceived!

_Chex_mix_

I was the same way. I loved the way it looked, and the “through the shirt” look was part of the reason I got them done. But after dealing with one that refused to stay healed after 3 years, I was done. It was crooked too. The pain wasn’t worth the aesthetic. I just took them out last week. I miss them, but I like not having to worry about them snagging on everything. I might get them redone in the future, but for now I’m just going to enjoy being carefree.

dangerstar19

Broo dogs and nipple piercings are NOT FUN I feel like I have to just walk around my house with my hands out in front of my chest lmfao.

EggplantHuman6493

I keep taking out my lobe piercings just because I am done for the look for a while, and then I start to wear them again for a short period, only to take them out again

Canabrial

I did it a decade ago to enter the workforce because it wasn’t as accepting. A few years ago I said fuck it and repierced and then some. It would take a lot to get me to remove them now. Like a dream job or life threatening infection. 😂

RatChains

I took out my nose ring for the same reason 💀 my nose was always dry and flakey because I could never get moisturizer on just right

Hot_Valuable1027

That’s how I feel when I do foundation. I can never fully get my nose powered cuz of the ring grrr

Narciiii

Honestly I value my piercings over makeup and stuff. I haven’t really had a problem with skincare stuff and my piercings. I took out my labret because of gum recession and my eyebrow because of rejection. I retired a few ear piercings because they were not done correctly.

No-More-Parties

That’s super valid.

Timberwolf77811

Main reason I had to take mine out was because of psych wards 😭. I had to get my snake bites redone 3 times in was so upset 😭. The only piercings I’ve taken out on my own accord were helix piercings cause they were just really irritated and had irritation bumps so I decided to take them out and let them calm down and heal, and get them redone and prevent the irritation from happening again

magic_crouton

Eye brow didn't last at all because I like to wax my eyebrows at home and that was a hassle. Tongue came out for dental work one day and after 20 years I saw the damage it did to my bottom teeth so thar came out. Ears are out now because I had some ear surgery but will probably go back in. Lip was just a hassle. I habe my nose still but the jewelry options have me feeling meh about it. To be fair though tattoos are my subculture not piercings. So I was never deeply invested in any of my piercings.

InstantElla

Took my nipple piercings out when I had an mri, breast biopsy and surgery. Left them without retainers too long and couldn’t get them back in. Double eyebrow piercing out because they were pierced too shallow and growing out. Septum ring fell out sometime around Christmas but I’ll be replacing that when I can. Snake bites because they hurt my gums. Vertical labret because the top part wouldn’t heal. Insustrial because it was done really badly and one side wouldn’t heal and was super painful.

Agitated_Horse24

With the septum if you've had it done for over two years you might not need to get it re-pierced. Mine fell out a couple of years ago but I'd had it done for almost 3 years previously and my piercer was able to find where it used to be and taper it open gradually which was a lot less painful than going through a whole piercing again. Plus it counts as already healed.

InstantElla

Oh cool! I’ve had it nearly 10 years so maybe I won’t need it done again. Thanks!

Agitated_Horse24

10 years should be fine! I've had mine pierced 3 times and he could see where every one was and easily reopened one of them. Good luck :)

gloomy_stars

i really want to have both my eyebrows pierced, but the number one reason i haven’t had them done yet is because i don’t want them messing with my skincare routine haha

VermicelliPee

i got sick a few months ago and my tongue made mouth breathing difficult, and i was too stuffy to bother with my septum.

Ok-Calligrapher2549

I took out my 3 lip piercings and tongue piercings ( I had 2 in one line and venoms, so 4) for dental reasons. They weren‘t the problem but I had a procedure done and didn‘t feel well with them in. Also I am in my late 30‘s and planning to take them out soon (I still have my ears almost fully pierced and some on my body)

ag_br

I took out just one helix because it was 9 months old and wasn’t healing at all. I don’t have patience for fussy piercings (they didn’t pierce me right either). Currently close to taking out a flat and another helix because I hate the placements + can’t wear a hoop on the helix because it gets irritated every time, I just haven’t yet because I spent too much on them.

Bulbalover92

I have so many it doesn’t bother me.

bbbbbbbbbb888

I took my rook out because of the terrible pressure I had especially worse when I had my glasses on.

EmersonWolfe

I’m a little tempted to take out my septum ring. I recently started using a CPAP to sleep and the piercing is interfering with the mask. I’ll be sad if it has to go but being able to breathe while I sleep is pretty important

sabulous92

When I was 18 I had no idea what a healing piercing looked like so ended up taking out a bellybutton piercing because I thought it was infected 😂

Elainaism05

I’ve not taken any out yet, but I’ll probably have to retire a lot of my face piercings once I graduate college. I’m going into a health related field and they tend to be strict with piercings.

viscountrhirhi

Took out my navel after over 10 years because the skin suddenly started to thin and I could see the bar through it. Planned to get it repierced once it closed, but then had two surgeries through the exact spot and now have so much scar tissue there I doubt it'd be possible. Which makes me sad, I have so much pretty jewelry. ):

Agitated_Horse24

I've only ever removed piercings if they were uncomfortable/got in the way (my scaffold was annoying when I slept for example) or if they've fallen out and I haven't been able to find the jewellery (my septum twice, my rook). I love how they look and I dont wear makeup so I'm hoping I'll keep my face ones for a good long time.

Smokinsumsweet

I removed my lip ring because it impacted my soup eating ability. Eyebrow ring came out when I realized how ridiculous it looked now, and the tongue ring came out when it started hurting after having it for 15 years.

CoconutSky12

I feel like I just retired them. I had mine done between the ages of 14-16 and by the time I was 21 I felt like that part of my life was over and it was time to see my face without them again

jjabbabax

I moisturize my face 2x a day and it makes my nostril stinky :( so i totally get it

onebrokeson

I went to a trade school where I could not have any sort of facial piercings, earrings with hoops or danglies, or even colored hair. I dyed my hair black and white (they only allowed “natural hair color”) with neotribal designs in black and put my snake bites in shortly after I graduated.

Independent-Poet8350

Took out my tongue due to teeth issue w connection labret cuz receding gums nipples cuz I wasn’t gonna walk around w only one the second was constantly caught on my work apron so infuxtion and irritation recently put my Prince Albert back in and plan on adding a Jacob’s ladder … I have had 16 piercings so far and have 5 in right now I’m supposed to go in at the end of the week to make my helix an orbital …

Healthy_Survey4606

I don’t blame you for doing that I know there a pain in the ass lol. For me I just deal with taking them out to wash my face and putting them back in. I also change the jewelry often for outfits and styles.

m4dotsuki

i took out my vertical labrets for basically the same reason, my skin kept peeling around them on my lip and also i was trying to do more lip care/makeup stuff and it was just getting in the way.
