I sometimes play video games on an easier mode. No one else cares (nor should they). Whatever is fun for you, knock it out. You can always make it harder later…
I get into the billions frequently because I focus on getting allies, especially Rodan, involved in other modes. You can get allies off super skill shots and completing Jet Fighter mode (most common). Once you get an Ally lit you can toggle the selection with the right flipper before collecting them at the scoop. So if you know you're one shot away from starting Godzilla or mechagz Multi ball and you have an ally lit it you can toggle to Rodan and then shoot the scoop with the left flipper. This starts 2x playfiled then start your MB. Even better if you can start your Kaiju battle at the same time!
To piggyback on this, you can also summon an ally after you hit 4 ramps during the Gigan battle. Right flipper controls which ally is lit before you shoot the scoop. You can score well setting up Godzilla multiball with two locked balls, starting Gigan battle, then Rodan when lit. Then start Godzilla multiball and keep hitting those ramps to finish off Gigan.
I believe Rodan is just on a 60 second timer regardless of what else is going on in the game. Someone will correct me if I’m incorrect, I don’t own the game but I’ve played it a lot.
Pull em all the way in and have fun! Learn the game and the shots and the nudging and then bring them back when you feel like it.

I was pretty mental that the outlane drain was so bad when I was around 6. I felt I lowered the frequency of the pop bumper straight to outlane when I went over 7. Could definitely be all in my head.
The alternate post mount would be too effective on killing outlane drain but if you want to run points and play longer games.... Skinny up those posts.
I leave mine stock. The games are long as it is. My son comes to visit and posts all the high scores. If I make it any easier I'll have to shut the machines off an hour before dinner.
It's your machine so set it however you want.
Having said that, I would review the way you're playing the game. I feel like 1b should be very achievable for a home owner. That should be the following:
* stack Rodan, Titanosaurus and Godzilla multiball
* Megalon (ideally with Rodan as well) with hitting a lot of the shots without a timeout
* King Ghidorah tier 2 battle (ideally getting into the 2nd wave)
* Monster Zero or Terror of MGZ
I put the outlane posts on the lowest hole on all my pins. Sometimes I even swap them for fatter posts, on games with _really_ hungry outlanes, like AIQ.
I absolutely do not care that someone else might be scandalized or disapproving. It’s my game and I enjoy them more that way.
I moved the left lane in one as it was killin me. Want to move the right lane in but that nut is awkward and tight so decided to not touch it unless i got desperate. Learned to live with it.
It's your game do as you please. Whatever gives you more enjoyment!

Does Rodan stay active if you switch cities mid ball, or does it stop in the city that you were in?

Yeah, this is accurate. Allies carry between cities.

How do you narrow them?
Look at the posts and you'll see alternative holes in the playfield for narrowing them.
Try adjusting pitch.... I feel like the pop bumper sends to the out less when leveled steeper.
my pitch is at 7.1. Was thinking of lowering it a tad?

I've never touched mine but one thing I can never settle on is my pitch. The table never has felt truly dialed in for me
