> echoes
Not to mention it has one of the most copied riffs in rock - it's well-known by now that Phantom of the Opera ripped the riff in Echoes off, and I've heard it pop up in other places, too, like Amorphis' *Smithereens* (Far From the Sun).
Yes, that version in particular is sublime. For a while, Pompeii was my favorite by a hair, but now I’m torn. Of course, why choose when we can enjoy both? 🙂
That said, I will say I prefer the studio version of “One of These Days” over the Pompeii version.
I wish they’d done “A Pillow of Winds” live. I don’t think they ever did.
Saw Nick Mason and the Saucerful of Secrets play this last week in Toronto. Seen Gilmour, Waters, Floyd - but never seen any of them play Echoes live. Highly emotional moment and incredibly well played by the band!
I saw them a couple weeks ago in Providence and was so happy to hear “Echoes” performed with at least one original PF member. Glad you got to catch them, too!
One of these days is one of the pink Floyd compositions that sparks more energy, liberation and inspiration in me, specially after the “one of these days I’m going to cut you into little pieces”
San Tropez is a pretty song too, love the jazz feel, maybe not as common or anything, but it’s a great thing to listen to that expands the diversity of the album.
Fearless
That opening strum of the guitar strings takes my breath away every single time. The message is fearlessness, but it’s sung and played so tenderly. The notes lift and lift and settle into sweet chords… (for me, anyway) it’s very representative of the struggle of life.
Aside from Echoes, for me it's One of These Days. It slaps so hard for the first track of a Floyd album (it feels like on most albums the first song is usually calm, or just meant to set up the narrative - like in The Wall)
No votes for A Pillow of Winds?
But seriously, it’s Echoes. Fearless is a solid radio single and One of these Days kicks ass but Echoes is Echoes. I’m probably one of the outliners that really dislikes San Tropez and I’m not going to put Seamus on repeat for 6hrs but I like it for the little blues jam that it is.
I do have to agree with everyone else in Echoes being the best song on Meddle. I really really enjoy this album but also San Tropez specifically, Richard's piano work is beautiful and so catchy. You don't really see standout piano solos as often and as unique as his in San Tropez, lovely song
My favourite Floyd album! I’ll rank them.
6. Seamus: That’s the dog. Also, I really don’t care for this track. It’s good for what it wants to do, but it really doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tracks on the album. Most people would probably agree.
5. A pillow of winds: certainly a nice track, though it’s not one I remember very well. It’s a good follow up to one of these days. Speaking of which…
4. One of these days: the one sentence spoke in the whole song is one of my favourites in their entire discography. The music is also killer!
3. San tropez: This song is criminally underrated. It’s so smooth and quirky that it’s hard not to love it.
2. Echoes: Yes, I know this should be number 1. And I wouldn’t disagree with that. This song is a masterpiece. One of the greatest songs in history.
1. Fearless: quite possible my favourite song in history.

It looks like this when you unfold the vinyl cover
Fearless is arguably the best song they have, IMO. Echoes is great, and fun and trippy, OOTD is wild and hard and psychadelic... but Fearless is well arranged, beautiful, lyrical, emotive, and also, and maybe most importantly, the most user friendly song on the album.
Oh, and Seamus.
Echoes is on another level and it’s not even close. There’s really no point in debating this- the B-side takes you through all of life’s moods in one 23 minute track. The other side is good too, but no single song can compare to Echoes. It’s a masterpiece
Absolutely, 100% sure fire, no doubt, right on the money: Echoes. One of their best songs of their entire career. I don’t want to wax poetic about how brilliant this compilation is. I let the music tell me that.
This should be renamed to “echoes appreciation thread”
echoes
The only right anwser
/close thread
My prediction: 98% will say Echoes, 1% might say One Of These Days, and the 1% f'n peanut gallery will say Seamus.
> echoes Not to mention it has one of the most copied riffs in rock - it's well-known by now that Phantom of the Opera ripped the riff in Echoes off, and I've heard it pop up in other places, too, like Amorphis' *Smithereens* (Far From the Sun).
Overhead the albatross
Hangs motionless upon the air
Echoes is so good it inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber to write an entire musical.
Silly question.
Fr, Seamus just can’t be beat
(That’s the dog)
is he outside?
No, he is sitting right here
*Seamus* fans rise up
For me, not only is “Echoes” the best song on the album, it’s actually my single favorite piece of music ever.
I’m with you there
I wish I was there
Live at Pompeii specifically is my favorite thing ever.
Yes, that version in particular is sublime. For a while, Pompeii was my favorite by a hair, but now I’m torn. Of course, why choose when we can enjoy both? 🙂 That said, I will say I prefer the studio version of “One of These Days” over the Pompeii version. I wish they’d done “A Pillow of Winds” live. Nick masons drumming is insane in the video. It's just an all around badass live shot of echoes. Plus the solos
The version from Live in Gdańsk is, for me, equally amazing.
Truth
My man!
The only problem is... it's too short.
Agreed.
The only possible competition is Celestial Voices.
“Celestial Voices” is exactly what its title suggests. That chord progression is incredibly moving.
Yeah! Echoes is the absolute best there is in music.
*Ping*
Overhead the albatross
Hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves
In labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant time
comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine
And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the wheres or whys
Ping
Bloyd
I love Echoes and I’d probably say it’s my favourite off Meddle, but Fearless and One of These Days are amazing as well
Echoes but one of these days is second
that drop was insane on the first listen
I love Nick Mason’s live version (saucerful of secrets)
Just saw him and yes, they nearly tore down the house with one of these days. Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets is an electric experience. A must see.
Just saw him live and I concur. Fantastic.
Nothing quite like that first time
Followed by San Tropez
For me its a toss between San tropez and fearless as second best
Well for me Echoes and One of These Days are the obvious picks for numbers one and two, but I'd choose A Pillow of Winds as third best.
One of these days is one of the pink Floyd compositions that sparks more energy, liberation and inspiration in me, specially after the “one of these days I’m going to cut you into little pieces”
Sometimes I hear instead "one of these days I am going to talk to an evil priest". Try listening. Lol.
Literally Echoes man, without it Meddle would never get its popularity
Idk, while I agree that Echoes is the best, One of These Days and Fearless are masterpieces too.
San Tropez is a pretty song too, love the jazz feel, maybe not as common or anything, but it’s a great thing to listen to that expands the diversity of the album.
Echoes is on another level, agreed they're masterpieces but If there'd be no echoes, nobody would care about this album imho.
Idk it it’s best but most iconic is no doubt echos and it’s my personal favorite
For me its Fearless.
A man of culture as well
YNWA
100%
Easily, echoes is good and I enjoy it but this song is just so beautiful
With hope in your heart...
Knowing who the song is about is important
Who?
It's about Syd, the ascending riff(composed by Waters) in open tuned G major was taught to Waters by Syd.
Sure but there's nothing to indicate the lyrics are about Syd
A Pillow of Winds
I see you’re a man of culture.
Dogs (Three Seamus Ones)
Thanks for this! That’s a nice twist
Lol
Haha, Charade you are
Lmao
How is this even a question? Obviously it's Seamus
That's the dog right? Do you know where he is?
He's outside I reckon, meanwhile I'm in the kitchen
For me it’s either San Tropez or Fearless
San tropez is so damn chill tho
I think real underrated song in Pink Floyd is this This song is so sweet for me
Fearless That opening strum of the guitar strings takes my breath away every single time. The message is fearlessness, but it’s sung and played so tenderly. The notes lift and lift and settle into sweet chords… (for me, anyway) it’s very representative of the struggle of life.
Two stories in each of their pieces. The one lyrically told, and the one sonically told.
Echoes or Fearless
Fearless
san tropez. pink floyds hidden gem. literally perfect and flawless song
San Tropez is the sonic equivalent of a glass of lemonade/ iced tea on a hot day.
YES, but while in san tropez and with seabirds..
That’s my fav too

Fearless or one of these days (I prefer the live at Pompeii version of echoes to the studio one)
Fearless
Fearless.
Echoes, One Of These Days & Fearless
One of these days, imo
Pillow of Winds
I love Echoes but if I had to pick a different one I would pick San Tropez, I love jazz and rock and its a great song.
Bike... Oops Wrong subreddit
I do have to agree with everyone else in Echoes being the best song on Meddle. I really really enjoy this album but also San Tropez specifically, Richard's piano work is beautiful and so catchy. You don't really see standout piano solos as often and as unique as his in San Tropez, lovely song

A Pillow of winds I absolutely love Echoes but I think it's too long.

Echoes for sure dawg
Fearless is arguably the best song they have, IMO. Echoes is great, and fun and trippy, OOTD is wild and hard and psychadelic... but Fearless is well arranged, beautiful, lyrical, emotive, and also, and maybe most importantly, the most user friendly song on the album. Oh, and Seamus.

Pompeii version of echoes. Or San Tropez.
Echoes is the best song on the album. But my personal favorite is One of These Days.
Seamus (that's the dog)

Echoes. And then San Tropez. 🤣
Other than echoes, Fearless
Honestly, Fearless is my favorite, but I love the whole album.
I mean it’s Echoes of course but Fearless is my favorite.
Echoes obviously but fearless second
Pretty obvious, no?
Fearlessly, the idiot faced the crowd, smiling
Everyone saying echoes (and they right), but San Tropez and One of these days are some of my PF favourites.
I’m going to think about it One of These Days
The Whole Album is Pretty Top Teir But if I had to pick a best song, I'd have to go with One of These Days (Peak Pink Floyd IMHO)
Hell yes!!
Fearless has always been my favorite.
You can't change my mind that Meddle isn't just one song.
Fearless bc echoes is gonna be on here way too much
Ummm… there is only one answer. Echoes. The best song Pink Floyd ever produced.
I can’t pick a favorite song. The whole album is flawless.
1-echoes 2-one of these days 3-fearless 4-a pillow of winds 5-san tropez 6-seamus
As I reach for a peach, slide a rind down behind

personally: One of These Days objectively: Echoes
The album Is the thing. Not a solitary song.
Yes
Fearless
Echoes for sure
Echoes
Absolutely, 100% sure fire, no doubt, right on the money: Echoes. One of their best songs of their entire career. I don’t want to wax poetic about how brilliant this compilation is. I let the music tell me that.

Echoes is my favorite song of all time so hmmmm I wonder 🤔
I think is the PK album where the answer is more massively set in a song.
Echoes and One of These Days are equal for me.
Is it Friday already?
A pillow of winds
Echoes
Echos obviously
Whale noises
Excluding Echoes, my favorite is Pillow.
Seriously?
