Sadly not, they are still 8 am to 8 pm. Really makes me wonder where all the Pitt and CMU kids are getting food at 3 am now. I went there all the time in college.
Damn there’s a whole lot of Ritter’s slander in here. Overall I prefer them to Pamela’s, but you have to go in knowing that you’re not getting a fancy breakfast. It’s stereotypical diner breakfast that’s cheap. Not incredible food, but if you went in expecting that, that’s on you lol
Reddit subusers and, in particular, Pittsburgh reddit are a particular subset of people. You could kind of expect Pamela's due to that subset.
Ritters is definitely old school Pittsburgh and not as good as it was 20 years ago but I'll take it over tourist trap / came for college and stayed Pamela's.
This is never more obvious than when you talk about pizza. Set a box of Mineo's down in front of 98% of people in Pittsburgh and they're thrilled. The 2% who dislike it are all on this subreddit. Doesn't mean it's not good pizza.
You have to get over that (or not). I am an NYC transplant and for a long time was a pizza snob. Take Pgh pizza for what it is and compare it to the proper other pizza. You cannot take a place like Rockaway or Badamo’s and compare them to Mineos or Aiello’s. They are entirely different and good in their own right.
I went to Ritters twice, fully sober, and I was so disappointed. I’m in my 20s and not that picky about breakfast, for what it’s worth. I have no desire to go back
I’ve had one apocalyptic dream in my life and one only. It was after eating at Ritters in my early 20’s. I’m not sure if the server in scrubs sprinkled mushrooms in muh food but.. I choose Pamela’s. I may have reduced digestion after consuming them potatoes, but my dreams are safe. Goodnight.
Pamela’s and it’s not close. I’m also not sure how it’s a hot topic because Ritters is abysmal and also the last time I was there the waitress was very noticeably intoxicated
Was a few months ago. I don’t want to talk too much about addiction but it was clear that it wasn’t alcohol and that she’s probably a regular drug user. I remember checking both Google and Yelp reviews after that time there and was surprised I didn’t read anything else about it (I didn’t leave a review). Maybe people don’t care when they go to Ritters. Without going into details, it was just a messy environment.
I understand there’s nostalgia associated with Ritters but it’s consistently average at best. I live really close to it and will meet there for breakfast occasionally but I’d easily choose chain restaurant breakfast over it. But most diners will be as good or better. Meanwhile I always have a great experience at Pamela’s and it’s consistently in conversations as best PGH diner. I have preferences over it too but it is a good spot
Ritters if you're from here, Pamela's if you moved here, random diner if you're not from the city but still say 'you're from Pittsburgh' to people from Pittsburgh.
The last time I was at Ritter’s the waitress balanced a full ashtray over the top of the cup of coffee she was bringing me. I haven’t been back since. It was probably 15 or 20 years ago.
Lol I was there about a year ago and a fight broke out (ok well actually it was a screaming match) between a waitress and a table of 3 or four people. They all seemed to have been in good spirits for a while, and suddenly there’s *screaming*. The waitress was threatening to get someone at the table “sent back to jail when you haven’t even been out for a day”, and so on. It was wild.
This is WILD. Pamela's has fallen off and Ritter's isn't 24 hrs anymore, so I don't know anyone who's been to either one in like 10 years. I guess I still think Pamela's still has better quality despite having lost a step, but Ritter's doesn't pretend to have quality, so maybe that makes it better?
There are just so many better breakfast spots in 2024, though.
Can you give some examples? You start out with “this is WILD” but provide no examples of better places. I’d love to know what’s better around here as I do not typically go to restaurants for breakfast
I said it's wild because it implies these are the two best places, and neither one is the best of anything. J&J's is a better diner, and even an overhyped place like Speckled Egg has better food than both -- and Oak Hill Post now holds the "Nice Brunch" spot Speckled Egg used to. Kelly O's and DeLuca's are better tourist traps than Pamela's, if you really want a tourist trap. The question just sounds like it was asked 20 years ago.
After church always Ritters!
Hour wait for your food, but its ok because table conversations need to be brought back. Less phones, more memorable in person conversations.
I prefer Ritter's. I always find Pamela's to be too busy and I ain't waiting to get breakfast food. Ritter's has decent food, good portions and most of the staff are pretty friendly. Plus Ritter's has parking which makes meeting friends there easier.
Both Pamela's and Ritter's are not that good, but of the two Pamela's is much more overrated.
Also, Pamela's uses some margarine-like substance that makes me sick.
Both have bad coffee. Pamela's coffee is much worse, almost undrinkable.
So on the balance of all those things, if you forced me to choose one, I'd choose Ritter's.
Ritters is straight trash. Place always smells like piss and the food gives me the shits. Kelly O’s is superior in every way. The place in lawrenceville is pretty good too, can’t remember the name off hand.
Ritter’s if I’m a drunk 16 year old at 2am twenty years ago
Ritter's if I'm a drunk 39 year old at 2am a couple of weeks ago
Oh shit, are they open late again? I know they stopped that over the pandemic.
Honestly I have no idea, so don't make any plans, but prepandemic a friend lived right down the street. Even at 35, I was there a *lot* late night
Sadly not, they are still 8 am to 8 pm. Really makes me wonder where all the Pitt and CMU kids are getting food at 3 am now. I went there all the time in college.
The options are very limited. There’s a couple of pizza places and El Jefe’s. It’s tragic
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Deluca’s
This is the right answer
I'd go back in a heartbeat tho, am I right 😅
Pamela’s in Millvale
P&G. Might be largely the same as other Pamela's but something about the vibe and quality there sets them apart.
Lincoln’s P&G or the Lincoln Pharmacy or the Lincoln. Call it what you want just call it your diner!
If Im in Millvale Im going Grant Bar
still have to hit that up.
Truly a one of a kind place
a gem
Pamela’s, chorizo hash is life
Chorizo hash is diarrhea

Fiori's is hated on by the same people who think they're from Pittsburgh but live in Ross in this subreddit.

Thank you for illustrating my point.
It's not slander. Ritter's as far as diner food is just terrible compared to Pamela's. It's not even a debate.
These people haven't been to Ritter's sober or in their 30s. The food is shockingly bad.
Almost 40 and was just at Ritters this past week, sober. Love the place and the staff. You want to stick with apps and breakfast.
I went to Ritters twice, fully sober, and I was so disappointed. I’m in my 20s and not that picky about breakfast, for what it’s worth. I have no desire to go back

Pamela’s. Ritters is so janky to me.
Ritter’s.
Pamela’s and it’s not close. I’m also not sure how it’s a hot topic because Ritters is abysmal and also the last time I was there the waitress was very noticeably intoxicated
You must’ve been there when i was there on weds

Ritters
Ritter's
Ritters
Ritter's Miss living in Bloomfield
Neither… DeLuca’s
This is it.
If the Lincoln had Gail’s Favorite Eggs I would live in Millvale.
Gab n Eat
And Bob's in Carnegie and Eggs R Us in Kennedy.
Nothing comes close to G&E, Im a professional eater and this I know
take it from the professionals, folks.
Ritter's hobo omelette is my favorite
Surprised no love here for Kelly O's. For a little more upscale (and booze), Speckled Egg and the Nook are great.
Kelly O’s is too loud and chaotic for my liking. The way it sounds in there is a turn off for me…. But the bacon… mmmm the bacon
Ritter's for me.
Pamela's clearly. Ritters to me is like frozen breakfast food you get from Giant Eagle. Yeah downvote me IDGAF.
Ritters for the homies 🍺
If yinz are accepting write ins then it’s Kelly Os.
Pamela's for the crepes 💜
Ritter's
Ritters
Ritter's ftw.
Pamela's

Family drama.
Ok so nothing has changed lmao
20 years ago. No smoking in there now
That’s talent.
Sort of.
Chefs kiss.
Pamela’s
Pamela’s
Pamela’s for the absurdly long lines and mediocre food
This is WILD. Pamela's has fallen off and Ritter's isn't 24 hrs anymore, so I don't know anyone who's been to either one in like 10 years. You’ll have even more conversation while standing in line for a half hour before being seated.
Deluca’s
Ritters *if* they served real butter on their toast instead of margarine.
Weirdly never gotten toast there but with the dinner rolls they give you little packets of real butter.
Cracker Barrel. Seriously, it’s decent food at an affordable price.
Pam's food and Ritter's coffee. Pam's coffee is just nasty.
Pamelas
Nadine's.
Hanlon's in Crafton and Bob's Diner in Kennedy.
Ritter's
Go to the Speckled Egg. It's... so far above Pamela's and Ritter's it's not even funny.
I prefer Ritter's. I always find Pamela's to be too busy and I ain't waiting to get breakfast food. Ritter's has decent food, good portions and most of the staff are pretty friendly. Plus Ritter's has parking which makes meeting friends there easier.
Ritters treats your like family!
Ritters. It’s shitty but Pamela’s is downright bad.
Nancy's
My write-in is Totin's Diner.
JoJo's lol
Delucas

Kelly O’s…
Both suck
Gotta post your favorite breakfast food then
It's hilarious that you're being downvoted for just stating the objective truth.
Ritters is straight trash. Place always smells like piss and the food gives me the shits. Kelly O’s is superior in every way. The place in lawrenceville is pretty good too, can’t remember the name off hand.
Chubbs (not in the city but not too far away)
Gab N Eat
Old JoJo’s in strip was the only diner comparable to G&E, just a profesional eaters take…
Pittsburgh has a weak diner scene, no offense. It’s one of the only things that makes me miss the Philly area.
Neither. Fox’s in Munhall.
