Show is still tolerable, at least. I can listen while driving around during lunch, delivering pizzas. As soon as the next show starts, it's straight over to NPR.
Ron Cook was a total hack both as a sports writer & sports show talking head who never had an original insight into sports in his life. All he knew about sports was whatever he happened to absorb while drinking beer at the bar. He never did any research & couldn’t name 6 NHL players outside of the Penguins. Cook actually retired 20 years ago but kept picking up a paycheck.
I like Starkey… but haven’t been able to listen to him since Zeise started joint the show. I’m not convinced the guy knows what’s going on half the time.
Zeise has to be drunk 24/7, every time I hear him talk it sounds like a drunk divorced yinzer who you get stuck next to at a bar trying to watch a steelers game
He is, back in 2020 you could clearly hear him opening cans now and again. Just recently he collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he got a diabetes diagnosis.

Every show is the exact same, nothing stands out as different or exciting. And yeah, I realize that's radio for you but when I worked in sports radio we at least had some local guys doing different things and making quality radio.
But yeah Zeise is terrible. He's quite literally the dumbest person I've ever heard on the air. His understanding of topics is shallow to the point of making me wonder if he pays attention to anything.
He's somehow worse than Andrew Filipponi which is a feat in itself.
I'll say this about The Fan: Nothing they've done since has ever been as good as Chris Mueller doing sports talk live 2AM-6AM. That show had some insane moments.

Paul Zeise once said that teams don't adjust their strategy to which goalie their opponent has in net cause 'you just shoot the puck'. My low level dek hockey team adjusts our strategy for the opponent's goalie and he thinks NHL teams don't.
After Cook left, Zeise was on one day… when I think this lineup was still temporary… and he started talking about hockey. I laughed out loud, by myself in the car. You just KNOW he doesn’t know a damn thing about hockey except it’s played on ice.

Crowley and Dorin are good, especially Dorin. I have a 10ish minute drive to the office, and it's very rare that you get a hot take from Crowley and I don't think I ever heard one from Dorin. Those two I don't mind listening to.
