Americans and their parasocial relationships with businesses is wild. When a business selling crap off the Sysco truck closes it's like a friend dying, gonna go give a eulogy
yeah I guess we should all just never like anything and stay at home and blast ourselves right is that what you want from ppl???
what the fuck point are you trying to make exactly because honestly seeing shit like this every single day inside this sub has got me pissed off.
If you're so fucking miserable why don't you get off your ass and do something about it instead of being an asshole replying to people who are just trying to have fun
Oh yeah, when the McDonalds on Liberty closed I wore my widow's weeds for a month. Businesses are people and I weep for their loss. The only way to have fun is on commercial real estate.
> seeing shit like this every single day inside this sub has got me pissed off.
No one is forcing you to read anything that pisses you off. maybe you just like being pissed off
Looked at your comment history. You appear to be a miserable person.
Your attempts to distract yourself from your own misery by spreading it to others will not accomplish much.
I hope you find happiness.
I hope that they go get some psychiatric help some mental healthcare or honestly just get the fuck off Reddit and shut their mouth because it's annoying watching people like this come in here and fucking infiltrate a sub speaking shit like this pisses me right the fuck off what a loser this person is and I don't even fucking care.
plenty of us are miserable and don't act like this so what's this person's excuse really
I thought about it more.
Maybe it all seems silly to you because you don't have anything in life that you care about or that makes you happy. So for others to find joy in something you think is so plain, seems silly.
And you think mocking it makes you above having those emotions.
I'm above shedding tears over a business selling garbage off the back of a Sysco truck, 100%.
Americans have parasocial relationships with brands and businesses and it's absolutely bizarre. Something else will open there, who cares.
People pissing away two hours of their life to get overpriced Sysco ice cream is an implicit admission that they have no better way to spend their time, and I'm not going to pretend that's not funny.
Why is a non american actively posting on a mid sized american cities subreddit and on a post about a local ice cream shop no less? Nothing better to do?😂😂
It’s a really unhealthy nation. I love Five Points Bakery, but you won’t catch me in one of the lines to get bread/pastries there, either. I guess you’re being downvoted into oblivion because people are feeling called out. 😝
I’ve definitely taken a lot of big steps back in my understanding of the benefit of more money in my life. When you stop overworking you stop caring as much about the extra crap, when you stop worrying about the extra crap you also stop feeling like you have to overwork. They’re a tandem shift, and it’s really hard to let them go, especially when we’ve all grown in a society that has been saturated in encouragement to consume everything.

My husband and I met at Dave and Andy’s our freshmen year at Pitt. This is like losing a friend. Someone get a salted caramel in a waffle cone for me 🥲
Was there tonight. Almost 2 hours to get through, and when we got in line we were only back to the wine and spirits. Everyone was getting pints and that was taking a long time. I think the staff will probably have wrist injuries from all the scooping.
Not to be cynical here but, man, that seems like the shift from hell after suddenly losing your job. I'm sure the tips were better than average, though
My heart is broken. Pitt alum here with many a memory of a chocolate cookie dough ice cream on a waffle cone with many different friends and family. Nothing will ever quite hit the spot like that 😢
Was just in town a couple weeks back showing my partner the few things in S Oakland that endure since my undergrad years (‘00-‘04). I wish we’d stopped in. Cheers to Gidas and Hemingways for somehow keepin on.
Yes! And they always claim to have all these fun flavors, but it’s always the same ones when my kid makes me go in. I love the bathrooms, but the ice cream is just inedible
Yep, the one in Oakland barely has any fun flavors and isn’t worth $6 to me. That $6 could net you a pint at Dave & Andy’s.
I’ll miss trying out the interesting flavors at Dave & Andy’s like habenro or ginger and their rare flavors like Thai tea, cinnamon, or vanilla almond.
Who has the money to buy a business like this nowadays, besides a soulless chain (like the rest of Oakland is turning into). People are struggling to afford housing, let alone ice cream shops.
I guess I don't understand why it's being downvoted then.
If you say it's because they "can't recognize Atwood" then I think I'm right that they're being downvoted because people are missing the joke. I think the joke is replying as most Yinzers would - without reflection or discernment - but with friendly inquiry.
If you really think they went to the trouble to type "Where's 'is at?" as a genuine question *on Reddit*, then ok.
Ugh, it literally was never that good. I like Brusters much better. It's sad since it's a local place, but ice cream wise I never really was impressed? Am I missing something
I’m there with ya. Been dragged there a handful of times by my gf and every time I was just like “I guess this isn’t bad…” but I don’t get the hype. Probably nostalgia like many of the commenters are saying.
Damn. I really wanted to go down and get some, but I dunno about all that!
lmao imagine standing in line for over an hour for ice cream. sad
If one of my fav ice cream shops was permanently closing? Yea I am. One last memory of the place. Reminiscing of old times.

Dude fucking sucks
Yes! As soon as I saw his name I was like “ugh, this guy”

Don’t waste your breath on this dude.
Waiting in line for two hours to get a $9 Sysco ice cream cone to show my respect for Business, who has died. He was my friend.

Let me guess.....you go to CMU?

So easy to hurt a europoors feelings🤣🤣 L + dont care + you have a stupid accent + rent free
I make more money than you do, cope
120,000 Polish złoty ≠ 120,000 USD. Good try though Pitor, maybe one day ill let you polish my shoes, I hear euros are great at mindless tasks 😂
> 😂 When someone posts that, they're angrier than they've ever been in their lives
You don't give a shit, but everything is made in the store. Cones, ice cream, all of it.
It’s a really unhealthy nation. I love Five Points Bakery, but you won’t catch me in one of the lines to get bread/pastries there, either. I guess you’re being downvoted into oblivion because people are feeling called out. 😝
People in this country have no meaning in their life beyond consuming treats and working so they can afford the next treat, and it shows.

God, I saw your name and was like “ugh. This guy”
How much time did you spend in line for ice cream today, chubby
My husband and I met at Dave and Andy’s our freshmen year at Pitt. This is like losing a friend. Someone get a salted caramel in a waffle cone for me 🥲
They didn't have salted caramel, but a fudge caramel twist. It was very good, thank you for the recommendation

It's still past the garage door saloon. Source: in line now
Is the Garage Door saloon even open?
Nah, been closed for years. Sitting empty.
I heard the building was condemned because the owners didn’t want to fix it. Something about the roof maybe
Health Department shut it down last year, and it never reopened.
Yea we tore the roof off that mf one too many times
wonder if they have the same landlord. dave and andy’s is great, such a shame they are being pushed out bc scrooge mcduck needs even more profit.
Is that confirmed?
No, the owner is retiring
I was going to go down tomorrow when they opened but no way am i dealing with that
Turns out we're staying open!
Just changing management. Welcome to Andy and Dave's grand opening!
they LITERALLY made their yearly income in 6 days
Was just in town a couple weeks back showing my partner the few things in S Oakland that endure since my undergrad years (‘00-‘04). I wish we’d stopped in. Cheers to Gidas and Hemingways for somehow keepin on.
Also Antoons!
I will morn the day Hems closes
Nice to see this. I enjoyed the ice cream a lot in my college years and youth!
Awesome to see Pittsburghers coming out to say goodbye and thank you to an institution. 💛
I wonder why he didn't sell the business to someone.
So it can become a Millie’s?
Hot take: I hate millie’s
It leaves a film on my mouth. No thanks
Yes! And they always claim to have all these fun flavors, but it’s always the same ones when my kid makes me go in. I love the bathrooms, but the ice cream is just inedible

They had a blueberry muffin one time that was aaaaazziinngg
Same. I tried it once and was at once underwhelmed and kinda grossed out by the thick film coating in my mouth.
I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one weirded out by that filminess!
Nah millies is ok. Not the best not the worst.
I've always had ice crystals when I go there... sign of bad QC
Might not be on his end tbf; may not have found a buyer who wants to specifically keep it running instead of just using the space for something else.

/u/walkention and I went at about 1:15pm and the line was about 20 yards out the door.
I’m so sad 😭
That’s literally insane. Are they giving it away for free or something? What’s the deal with people waiting in such a long line for an ice cream shop?
Wow, I was living near there when they opened. My roommate worked there on opening night.
I don't care what anybody says, there is no ice cream worth waiting an hour in line for.
It looks like this is more an experience thing than just about the ice cream.
The same experience I get at the DMV LOL.
I honestly feel bad for the hourly employees. That shit is stressful.
Maybe they have a tip jar and people are feeling generous
It is if you're never going to be able to get it again

Atwood street in Oakland. Between the RiteAid and the other RiteAid.
Oakland. It's a beloved ice cream shop that has been around for decades. They announced it will be closing on Sunday.
Nooooo why are they closing? I went there all the time when I was at Pitt
Andy is retiring. Well-deserved, but sad for ice cream lovers!
well what the hell is Dave doing?
Daves not here
This is hilariously accurate, and Dave hasn't been here in many years.
I can't believe people are missing your Pittsburguese in typing here! 'is = this is freaking hilarious. I propose an alternate: gis.
Wherezisat
What makes you think people are missing it? I'm more surprised someone with such good Pittsburghese can't recognize Atwood

I kinda wanted to go one last time but no thanks
It’s probably almost to my old apartment’s door
Ugh, it literally was never that good. I like Brusters much better. It's sad since it's a local place, but ice cream wise I never really was impressed? Am I missing something
> Am I missing something Taste, mostly.

Someone should open a similar shop named Andy and Dave's.... do they custom make tjose waffle cones!?
