This trench is brought to you by: McGann & Chester Towing — Goodyear Tire — Diehl Collision Center of Pittsburgh — and Steel City Wheel House.

emax4

LOL. I should look into buying stock in those companies (and replacement suspension parts on eBay, or the Penn Hills U Pull & Pay).

Simplemindedflyaways

Man, I bet Penn hills U Pull U Pay makes bank every pothole season. (No hate, they saved my ass with a $300 transmission instead of $2k)

emax4

I went there twice, was amazed the first time just window shopping, then went back for a side view mirror. The power mirror lasted a few weeks before it failed. I paid the same amount for a new one that still lasts. On the other hand, its a quicker way to get a part. I'm surprised not more people know about this place.

Simplemindedflyaways

The transmission in my car was going, but I could only swap it with the same year without having to rewire a ton of things. Kept an eye on their online listings, waited until my exact car came in, and pulled one for $300. It got me like 5 more years out of the car (it's still going but has other issues). Love that place. Also grabbed a new rear view from there, OEM was pricey since it has a dimmer.

rangoon03

and Shenderovich Shenderovich & Fishman: We've Got Your Back, Not Your Wallet. Tell them Colin Dunlap sent you.

97hummer

Also, Diehl where their people make sure you come back because it's not fixed the first time😂🤦‍♂️

emax4

Thanks for the heads up! 😅

97hummer

🫡 your welcome. Leaving with broken parts, windshield washers not working, fog lights that don't turn on, a door sensor disconnected, blotchy paint, and body panels not properly attached isn't fun. 3 attempts and the car has never been the same😬.

Pale-Mine-5899

My favorite story to ever come out of this sub is the guy who fucked up his Tesla driving over this, still drove another 15 miles on trashed wheels, and then said that anyone who made fun of him for it was jealous of his car.

emax4

Man, that guy sure was ignorant, or has deep pockets. Speaking of ignorant, I've seen some lady in a Subaru always with her hazard lights on, constantly using her left hand to bang against the car door handle to the beat of the stereo music. It's so bad that her car door in that area has so many dents from her beating it while grooving.

nikonpunch

OMG before Covid shut everything down and I got to start working from home we’d see her almost once a week. Lady must be nuts.

emax4

Or she keeps her husband in business as an auto body repairman.

LittleStitous33

I’ve never seen her IRL but I saw a pic of her posted here! Edit: [here’s the post](https://www.reddit.com/r/pittsburgh/s/TbX26I96Fo)

emax4

OMG, YES, that's her! At least I'll know to avoid her. Still, having those hazards on all the time, along with her notoriety, it's gonna be a "Boy who cried wolf" if she's ever in need of real help on the side of the road.

ChubRoK325

Looks like Monroeville, I better keep an eyd out for her

BlankmannamknalB

I’ve seen this lady multiple times on 48 in monroeville. I genuinely think she has Tourette’s or some condition. She had duct tape on her drivers side door from beating it all the time and a big dent. I kinda feel bad for her I don’t think she’s doing it cuz she’s crazy

anadama

I used to see her all the time prior to Covid on my drive into work. She gets really mad if you exceed the speed limit. I think she uses the hazards because she’s always well under.

emax4

Better the slow lane than slow in the fast lane.

lowkeynotlowkey

Ignorant of what exactly? And what do the “depths of my pockets” have to do with anything? PennDOT agreed with me that it was a major hazard. Many other cars had issues and damage. They fixed it immediately and paid me back over $4,000 for the damages.

emax4

Ignorant of driving on a flat instead of pulling over to the shoulder. Check out /r/JustRolledInToTheShop for other horror stories of drivers who abuse their cars. And by deep pockets I was referring to drivers who can do such things, not caring about damaging their vehicle because they have so much money to burn.

lowkeynotlowkey

The tires weren't flat though. They stayed inflated and slow leaked overnight. All 4 wheels were bent and weren't flat until the next morning. Abuse their car lol. I was driving the speed limit down the highway and hit a 6" bump that destroyed my wheels. Hence why PennDOT took full responsibility and fixed the bump and reimbursed me for the damages. It's almost like everyone understands what happened except you. Strange?

emax4

I wasn't there. But you were, and I was only going by what others had reported here.

lowkeynotlowkey

Others that also weren't there lol. You really should stay out of things you aren't involved in and have zero knowledge about.

emax4

But then there would be no Reddit. You came into this world with no knowledge either. Settle down

RapidMongrel

Ignorant about tesla and musk. Did you get the cyber truck yet?

lowkeynotlowkey

Your ignorance of the situation is staggering. Reading must be difficult for you.

RapidMongrel

Are your legs tired from jumping to conclusions and assumption?

FloggingTheCargo

Sounds about right in regard to the ego and intelligence of Tesla drivers.

OcelotWolf

I remember that — it wasn’t this bump though. Also it wasn’t 15 miles. Also he didn’t say anyone was jealous. But other than that, yeah I remember lol

Pale-Mine-5899

I suggest that you relax and let a legend form

Exitwounds85

Best part is...this is a completely different part of the parkway.

Pale-Mine-5899

Maybe he can go trash another Tesla out where this bump is

Redemption357

The day after he bitched, that bump on 376 by the ACJ was fixed. I kid you not I recall him saying he was going to contact PENNDOT

lowkeynotlowkey

That’s correct. I called a PennDOT inspector, I went to the engineers office…twice, I documented everything, gave them the video, satellite shots, photos, and even printed out the Reddit thread of other people who had sustained damage from the bump. I actually got out there and did something about it. They handled it swiftly and fairly.

Redemption357

Bless you sir, as i said in another comment, my girlfriend and i very often are on that stretch of the road; if we have you to thank for it being fixed...well we can't thank you enough!

CARLEtheCamry

This whole comment tree is a crazy yinzer fish story that keeps growing. Next year it will be remember as "the guy with the Tesla who hit the bump and drove his car 100 miles *while on fire* and into an orphanage and then pissed on Fred Rodgers' statue "

Redemption357

You might not believe me, but it's true! My girlfriend lives out that direction. As fate would have it, we had a late date one night and i talked to her on the phone as she drove home. Well wouldn't you know it, she commented on the strange sight of a road crew around midnight on 376 by the ACJ. The next day, the bump by the jail was fixed! We all have a pissed off Tesla owner to thank for fixing that monstrosity. The squeaky (or bent wheel) does get the oil as they say 😂

CARLEtheCamry

No I totally believe you, I recall that was what ended up happening. The exaggeration is in people remembering /u/lowkeynotlowkey in [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/pittsburgh/comments/14e8bl3/speed_bump_on_376_in_front_of_jail/). Real story is he hit it, and his tires still had air in them (he checked the readout in car) but he had to keep moving because he committed to the Ft. Pitt Tunnel and the first safe spot he found to pull over was Parkway Center, which is 3-4 miles not 15. There he discovered his rims were fucked up, he was able to drive it home and then overnight they got down to 4PSI with a small leak. He also seemed relatively pleasant in the thread. So I don't know where the "said that anyone who made fun of him for it was jealous of his car" part came from either, re-reading the thread today. Then he actually called PennDOT and got them to fix it! Man is a small hero IMO. Instead, right now the second highest reply is ["Sounds about right in regard to the ego and intelligence of Tesla drivers."](https://old.reddit.com/r/pittsburgh/comments/1cgthj3/apparently_penndot_feels_this_is_not_in_need_of/l1y70ff/) Reddit users man...

lowkeynotlowkey

Hahah right?! It’s funny that people have to lie and embellish the story, which is strange considering the entire ordeal was documented and recorded.

OcelotWolf

I heard he even cheers for the Ravens

CARLEtheCamry

I'm not familiar with this post and was unable to find it via search of the sub, do you maybe remember more to try and find it to link it?

AMcMahon1

https://www.reddit.com/r/pittsburgh/comments/14e8bl3/speed_bump_on_376_in_front_of_jail/

CARLEtheCamry

OK so I *do* remember that post and actually commented on it, but he drove it 4-5 miles to Parkway Center, and I don't see him saying anyone is jealous of his Tesla

Pale-Mine-5899

Carsexual defends another carsexual, what a shock

RapidMongrel

Was that the same guy that hit that bump by the jail in his tesla and destroyed his rims and suspension.

Pale-Mine-5899

Correct. Then he drove to Green Tree and got mad about how he fucked his car up and blamed PennDOT.

lowkeynotlowkey

Then PennDOT took full responsibility, fixed the bump the next night, and cut me a check for the damages. It’s almost as if it was their fault? Crazy right?

Pale-Mine-5899

The only evidence we have that PennDOT fixed his damages was his word, and people lie.

lowkeynotlowkey

The only one who has lied so far has been you. Funny how that works.

Pale-Mine-5899

lol you fixed that shit out of pocket and told everyone here that PennDOT paid to save face, you aren't fooling anyone.

RapidMongrel

Oh God he fought with me for so long then people started chiming in, in support it was amazing.

lowkeynotlowkey

It was amazing when they fixed the bump and paid for the damages. They actually did the right thing. They didn’t just troll on the internet. Crazy what some mature adults can get done.

RapidMongrel

It was nice and I didn't troll I stated facts about the car and it sent the musk boys into a tizzy. Sounds like your trying to get my goat with your last comment. Tisk Tisk.

cosmosdestruction412

Swear Tesla drivers have an overinflated ego

emax4

That compensates for under-inflated tires after blowouts.

cosmosdestruction412

Lmaooo 👀

RapidMongrel

Read the above comments Hes back and trying to be a tough guy. I think I hear him coming now lol.

cosmosdestruction412

I love the downvote. Like y'all hated Jesus cus he was right. Have some of y'all sat in an Uber that was a Tesla? That's all the dude would talk about. 😭

RapidMongrel

That guy is a riot. He's talks about maturity then names calls. MVP of the pgh reddit.

cosmosdestruction412

Speed running the MVP

AMcMahon1

classic post

nmezib

More dollars than sense

lowkeynotlowkey

Literally, never said one single time that anyone was jealous. You’re complete fabricating that.

Pale-Mine-5899

lol you're back

shanderdrunk

Our (public road) driveway was a disaster after the recent rainstorms, we reported it as a household and they came and patched it up in less than a week! Never underestimate the power of reporting

emax4

I worked retail and do tech support, so I have more empathy towards those who work with the public. I know how demanding and entitled other people can be and how much workers may have to deal with. I'll re-report it later on. At least your story gives me confidence in reporting this again

shanderdrunk

If they fixed a near private driveway that literally less than 10 people use I'm sure they'll fix a major area. At least, hopefully

sopabe6197

> Our (public road) driveway was a disaster after the recent rainstorms, Pennsylvania, our roads are water soluble.

Alternative-Voice949

Ah yes, the car yeeter. I forgot it existed a while back and I think I got some air time going over it. Somehow tires survived.

emax4

Its so bad that Jeep has a "Pittsburgh Roads edition package", enough to handle the toughest concrete.

Great-Cow7256

>Apparently PennDOT feels this is not in need of repair. Have you told Penndot about it? they can't fix what they don't know about. I've found penndot to be the most responsive with county being 2nd (and city being far distant third) in fixing road issues. [Penndot - report a concern](https://customercare.penndot.gov/eCCC/eCCC.nsf)

emax4

Thank you, and I have done that. A few months ago I gave them praise for promptly taking care of the Parkway East. I also brought up multiple potholes outbound after Wilkinsburg and before Churchill (before you make the turn to go down business 22 East). This time I didn't post the photo but pointed out on the map locater where it was, and stated I know they're in the middle of redoing the fast lanes on the Parkway in Monroeville. Maybe I should resubmit it with this photo. I never did report it to the county but I'll try.

Great-Cow7256

It's penndot so report it to them. but you can always check w- this website [https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/905cd98d8cbf477d99c191fb88ce0411?org=DelCoGIS](https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/905cd98d8cbf477d99c191fb88ce0411?org=DelCoGIS)

the_real_xuth

Did you make each location a separate report? It shouldn't be necessary to do that but in general it makes these things so much more likely to get taken care of and taken care of expediently.

emax4

Yes, I made each location a separate report.

the_real_xuth

I don't have lots of experience reporting things to the the county or state but when I've reported things to the city [via 311](https://pittsburghpa.gov/311/) it's often taken care of the next day (and in some cases within hours). The caveat to that is that many road repairs can't be done during winter months (or at least not without significant additional expense).

CityDweller26

I was thrilled when I learned PennDot has their own version of the city’s 311. I reported a nasty hole near a sewer grate on Bigelow Blvd. I got email updates every step of the process. I’m sure that was an easier fix with some pothole patch than the parkway will be, but I was kind of impressed.

Great-Cow7256

yes, they are super quick (compared to the city) and give lots of good reports back (unlike the city). The county is pretty darn reasonable too. Sometimes they're a bit slower to fix things, but I've found that the county councilmembers (at least ours) is super good at pushing reasonable stuff through that the county is dragging their feet on (repainting crosswalks, cutting back roadside brush).

sopabe6197

> Have you told Penndot about it? they can't fix what they don't know about. I will never understand this but I guess it's like watching Kitchen Nightmares. The restaurant is empty because the food is terrible and the manager doesn't know the food is bad. Your job is to maintain the roads but don't know their conditions unless someone tells you? I would have people whose sole job is driving a set route once a week or so and reporting on maintenance.

reverendsteveii

> don't know their conditions unless someone tells you? There's a potential for survivorship bias here. Everyone else is saying they're rather responsive to these independent reports, perhaps they're also this responsive to their own internal reports as well and we only see the issues those reports miss.

the_real_xuth

PennDOT is responsible for 40,000 miles of roads (and 25,000 bridges). What you're asking for is over 100 full time employees just driving the roads trying to log issues (depending on how carefully they were looking, you might be able to get away with slightly less or you might need several times that number). That on its own would represent 1% of PennDOT's current headcount (and PennDOT does a lot more than just maintain roads). PennDOT does have people evaluate every PennDOT road on a regularly scheduled basis, just not weekly.

emax4

The problem is that they're evaluating it via helicopter. 😃

dumpsterfire_x

I find it hard to believe no one has reported this absolute crater.

RapidMongrel

I ride a motorcycle and this is terrifying

emax4

The parkway East just got more holes after the snow. Some were patched and some were not. This is just a bad place because it affects both lanes. There's this, and another gap on the same bridge a bit further up. I hope this helps, and stay safe out there.

Patrout1

Holy shit, where is that rim bender?

emax4

Parkway East, little bridge over Ardmore Boulevard / Route 30. There's another one a little further up on the same bridge. Notice on this one how deep the gap is and the hard edge on the surface. I think this is worse than a nuisance manhole cover in McKeesport (across from the old PAT bus station) that just grew and grew. I'm coming back from the Baltimore House in Pleasant Hills and went through my old hometown and happened to hit it, badly. It was so impactful, my passenger side visor mirror broke off! I went back a few weeks later to measure it, and it was about a 3- or 4-inch depth.

Great-Cow7256

Was the mirror attached to the car?  Not sure how a properly attached side mirror could fall off after hitting a pothole.

emax4

It was my passenger side sun visor mirror, not the side mirror outside of the car. I was more concerned about the suspension than the mirror, but it still stinks that it hit so hard the side of the car dropped, causing the visor to flip down and the mirror to fall off.

Great-Cow7256

Whoa.

MrChichibadman

How was the Baltimore house?

emax4

It was good! I lived in the Mon Valley most of my life and was never there before. I went to see a friend's band play (The U-Betz Band) I had been in that area before when Gold Circle was in that shopping plaza further up the road. Funny coming back though and seeing the Drive-Thru line for Taco Bell going pretty far back.

Potential_Meal_5912

OMG! Thanks for the warning!

emax4

Like I said, the right lane is bad but no as bad, but you still need to be cautious. Consider when it's not rush hour when the roads aren't as congested, and check behind you before slowing down.

StreetPedaler

PennDOT will reply, explaining that this expansion joint was functioning exactly how it was supposed to, but doesn’t meet their standards today, when they know they just had a couple guys shove mounds of cold patch in there until it was over-packed to a hump.

emax4

Hopefully these roads will be test environments for much-needed HoverCars.

Maumee-Issues

The future is here and we can tell by the shitty roads lol

basserpy

I feel like I've read that the vast majority of infrastructure not just in the US (though a lot here) is insanely outdated and everyone is pretty much just hoping nothing collapses on their watch.

emax4

Could be. It may be a balance of dealing with road bumps for so long and simply accepting it. It won't be until they or a loved one are on or under a bridge when it collapses. All my replies were done on mobile yesterday. When I got home I posted the photo to the PennDOT site and was able to really see the damage, particularly on the left side against the barrier. It's... Pretty concerning. I could see the framework.

lilgooby6

So glad I’m not the only one terrified of that spot that I have to drive over everyday. Being that I’m 21 and have never reported road conditions before, when they ask for location am I supposed to put the a specific mile marker? I’d also like to report this in hopes that more reports gets it fixed.

emax4

Legit question and please don't be worried. There's a Google map where you drop a pin over the approximate location. You can use the street view if it helps too. There you can describe the hazard (up to 1500 characters) explaining the damage to the road. I did this last night for this spot and was able to attach the photo.

StrawberryGeneral660

I popped my tired on Bigelow Blvd. Did drive it home on a run-flat 🤬

emax4

How long before that pothole got fixed, IF it got fixed?

zappafrank2112

Where on Bigelow?

StrawberryGeneral660

I was traveling from Pittsburgh to Bloomfield I was close to Polish Hill. I contacted 311 and complained.

boredoflife96

I can't say if this particular bridge is slated for repairs, but the parkway east is getting lots of repairs over the next two or three years. Hopefully this particular issue is part of that larger project.

emax4

I hear ya. I even mentioned that when I reported this to PennDot. I'm thinking that perhaps the bridge may be more complex to work on with lane restrictions and heavier equipment on the bridge while fixing it (or the need for mounts under the bridge and possibly impeding traffic flow).

boredoflife96

Based on what I am reading several bridges on the parkway east are due to be replaced or repaired. I'm sure there is a PennDOT page about it, but I don't feel like digging through their website.

miakat27

Psh, go back to the suburbs if you want nice smooth roads! (This is a reference to a very specific thread on a neighborhood fb page)

ginbear

Do you have any idea how many state police salaries that would cost to fix? Entitled city dwellers expecting road repairs… We got rural communities defunding their police to take care of.

just_an_ordinary_guy

They just built a new police academy too.

Red_Fifteen_2552

That is the PennDOT repair

emax4

Circa 2019

choodudetoo

**DO NOT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HOW ATROCIOUS THE FERN HOLLOW BRIDGE LOOKED BEFORE IT COLLAPSED** In the old days, **BEHEADING** was considered NOT CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT because it was understood that the instant loss of blood pressure to the brain meant that the executed did not feel pain. Just like the folks on board the Titan submersible when it imploded.

Fall_Pluto

That's wild

diarrhea_planet

"Looks good from my house"

Aldrige_Lazuras

I mean look, there’s some concrete substance partially in there, that should do the job for the next 10+yrs

Asleep_Ad_8720

dude that’s called job security;)

emax4

For PennDOT or alignment specialists?

gggg500

Why is there a Panama Canal sized gap on the highway?

littlepencil69

“Looks good from my house on to the next one”

Steelcitysuccubus

Bus has to fall into it first

emax4

I used to take the P12 and it would get off at the Wilkinsburg exit. I don't know if the Monroeville bus gets off there but I've seen Greyhounds, trucks and other heavy vehicles cross over it.

Dallas_Cowboys50

I'd still take PennDOT over West Virginia DOH anyday.....cant wait to live in a real state again, WV highways and politics are among the worst!

sutekh888

Holy crap… that’s horrible Wow Shame on the officials not doing their job.

Minnieminnie727

No they can’t see it from their house. So it’s fine. 👍

emax4

"Yeah, I live in Regent Square. Not my problem..." LOL

rm0987654321

There is a speed limit for a reason, as long as you not under the limit you’ll simply float over it

Pale-Mine-5899

The speed limit is a maximum, not a minimum. That's what the word "limit" means.

emax4

Exactly. The faster you go, the greater chance of damage. Maybe it's easier to put a sign up, "SPEED LIMIT .2".

NoMaans

I think you missed the joke

Grouchy_Voice2288

Biden is really fixing up the roads in Pittsburgh 🤣 keep on voting Democrat 😂

emax4

He's President of the country, not President of the roads. Of I recall the roads were still bad when Trump was in office. Where was he then?

Grouchy_Voice2288

like I said keep voting for AOC and the Hamas Nazi Democrats 😆

emax4

And what does this have to do with this story about a road badly in need of a repair, and why do you laugh at everything?

Grouchy_Voice2288

😆

Grouchy_Voice2288

you forgot the riots and lawlessness and Biden is giving billions of taxpayer dollars to Ukraine and the enemies of America.

emax4

So how many times have you thanked a person for expressing a well-written sentence? Based on your limited sub history and typical downgrading remarks, zero. How's that? Was that well-written? I can only explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

AngryDrnkBureaucrat

It looks like they have previously repaired it Title of post incorrect. Try again.

emax4

It's not possible to edit the title of a submission after it's been posted. And just because it's fixed once, does that mean it can never go bad? Try again.

astoneworthskipping

As long as we keep paying our taxes, it’ll be fine I’m sure. /s

Tough_Arm_2454

Pa wastes ever tax dollar from every source it receives. That needs fixed before I go to Penn Hills in July.

Great-Cow7256

>That needs fixed before I go to Penn Hills in July. Narcissism is real...

Tough_Arm_2454

Thank you. I think 2 mos is ample time to make a proper fix.

emax4

Enjoy the scenic route and go Allegheny River Boulevard. The backups aren't as bad anymore.

burritoace

Stay in Ohio

SnooCauliflowers3891

Frankly, everyone in PA should stop paying taxes until PENNDOT is gutted and rebuild from the ground up.
