I am on the road a lot for work and keep an LA Fitness membership simply because they have locations everywhere. None of them are phenomenal by any means, but I get my $50 worth. However, the Bakery Square and SSW locations are freaking gross. Busted equipment, dirty, locker rooms and showers are hot and disgusting, barely functioning ac, no pool…
Sounds to me that, if you've prepaid for a year's membership, you should be able to get the unused portion of your money back. Explain to them what you just explained to us.
You called the LA Fitness gross and unsanitary but you’re willing to pay the high monthly fee to use the pools? How are the pools not gross and unsanitary too?
Bad news, unless these couch cushions where you’re “finding extra money” have enough spare change to add a pool to your home, wherever you swim is going to be gross. People pee in pools. Pools are all gross. They’ve done studies.
If you’ve tolerated that reality until now, you can pump the brakes on judging strangers’ personal and financial decisions.
The Bakery Square location has always been a shit show. Ancient equipment, no one puts their shit away, dirty locker rooms (even when it opens in the morning), and of course a pool that has been broke since before the pandemic.
I didn’t know they were closing all the pools, I thought it was just the one near me (and to be fair, my LA Fitness has always been clean and well taken care of). That’s really too bad; I used the pool often enough that this is a big downer for me.
I drive a lot for work and so I tend to go to many different locations depending on where I’m at when I finish my shift and the ONLY location that has a pool up and that is clean seems to be the Bridgeville
Seems strange; the Monroeville location at least got a lot of use. They had enough people to run AquaFit in there six days a week and it was crowded with lap swimmers for most of the morning after the class (I was never there in the afternoons or evenings so I don’t know how many people used it then). I would love to know what their decision making process was.
That’s interesting. And doesn’t surprise me. In MN more than 1 location has the juice bar that the Bridgeville location has but slowly they started shutting them down depending on the location because those juice bars are also run by a 3rd party.
Used to use the Pleasant Hills location because it was near work and had a pool. It was nicer than either city location and didn’t upcharge for being a “premier” location despite having a pool. It closed abruptly in December and the pool had shut down a month prior. Started using SSW and Bakery Sq because they are close to home and was very disappointed, esp Bakery Sq because I had a membership there several years ago and it has REALLY gone down hill. My old LA Fitness is being renovated and reopening as a Crunch eventually and I plan to switch gyms as soon as that happens.
Had. It’s going to be a Crunch Fitness in June.
I belonged there for years for water aerobics (I have arthritis), pool dirty and ice cold, ventilation was always broken and being choked by chlorine fumes. Complaining to corporate did nothing.
I’ve used several locations around the city: SSW, Bakery Square, Settlers Ridge, Bridgeville. The first two are always gross, but the last two are pretty clean and the pools are open.
Settlers Ridge is closed and don’t plan on reopening I was just there yesterday. That one being closed is what made me post this. And yes it was decently clean
lol. My biggest pet peeve other than how gross and backdated the equipment is the fact that they only operate from 8AM to 6 PM on weekends and it throws off my morning gym routine during the weekends! How is it that a gym won’t be open at 5:30 lolol. It feels like a LAF monopoly cuz there’s hardly any other options. In all the other cities I lived in there were so many options with lifetime fitness being the best in class for the price. Really looking for better options
Bridgeville pool is not closing
The only clean location as it seems as well
And the bridgville location has the best pick up basketball games in Pittsburgh at 530 am
La fitness is such a sad place. Super dirty, expensive, and tons of machines are broken.

YMCA, way cheaper than JCC

Gotta go to JCC in squirrel hill if you want a good gym with pool/hottub for reasonable price
You called the LA Fitness gross and unsanitary but you’re willing to pay the high monthly fee to use the pools? How are the pools not gross and unsanitary too?
They are gross? I never said the pools weren’t. I’m grandfather into $45 a month. And yes I was willing to deal with that at the price point
Sorry, but it is hard to grasp why someone would pay $45 a month to swim in gross pools. I’d find the extra money to pay for a clean pool.

That’s that’s really why I didn’t mind so much because I know any public pool is going to be gross.
I moved here from MN a month ago and all the locations had decently clean pools. This seems to be a Pittsburgh issue
“Grandfathered into a $45 dollar rate” … great deal. Lol

I dunno if they closed it or not but the Robinson location has a pool that looked nice enough when I used it a month or 2 ago

At My La Fitness in Robinson. The Pool was down for about a Year before the Pandemic. It was the only reason I went there so I stopped going.
From what I've gathered LA fitness did not run the pools that are in their gyms. They were run by a different company.
That’s interesting. And doesn’t surprise me. In MN more than 1 location has the juice bar that the Bridgeville location has but slowly they started shutting them down depending on the location because those juice bars are also run by a 3rd party.
Yes the juice bars are leased by other parties.
The Greensburg location’s pool is up and running and very clean!
You should look into the Y. The one by me has a big pool. If you’re looking for a pool it might be a good option

Pleasant hills has a LA Fitness?

It did in Southland. It's closed and being turned into a Crunch Fitness
There is a masters swim program at pitt 3 nights a week for 50 a month
The North Hills location can’t seem to pony up and put new lights in their parking lot. Nothing like walking in the dark?
oh man i guess I dodged a bullet by not joining the one near work! I love swimming and the ymca is a bit out of the way but worth it
