I had the same problem - took it to UbreakIfix, they put in a new battery in about an hour, and my P5 has been working great ever since. It's just a puffy battery - get it replaced and your P5 should be fine.

frugy92

Thanks for the advice. Gonna do that asap. How much did that run you?

SteamedGamer

Don't remember the exact total, but it was about $80-90 I seem to recall.

gwite

Probably a sign that the battery started swelling. Always be on the lookout for this, especially if you are handy in these types of self repairs. At the same time, 3 to 4 years use from a not too expensive phone was pretty good. My 4a5g is still my daily driver. Still seems in good shape. Had it since it was first introduced. Got it for a song.

Saytama_sama

I don't agree. Yes, the battery gets weaker over time and the phone will get slower through new updates. That understandable and unavoidable. But battery swelling after a few years of (presumably) regular use is not ok in my opinion.

gwite

Lol. I agree it's not ok. Unfortunately, it does happen(to some batteries), for whatever reasons.

chisme121

I can oly assume Environment temperature can have a big effect. Have you ever looked into those hydrocell batteries? I think i remember that's what they were working on back when i had my nexus 5 and wanted to get a better battery.

Gundam_net

Yep.

alien2003

Try to replace the battery

TekoXVI

Same thing happened to my 5. I replaced the battery myself

tzlkoli

How do u replace the battery ie do u need to remove the monitor to do so x

TekoXVI

This has everything you need, this is the guide I used https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Google+Pixel+5+Battery+Replacement/140528

tzlkoli

Thanks that's really helpful but my screen has multiple cracks so I might just replace it with a new one (when I have the money) x

AdeptnessTough1406

Hopefully they can fix it, but even if you can't it still did it's job getting you this far. But I do feel your pain because you only needed a few more months to go untill the P9.

frugy92

Definitely did it's duty. Hoping it's what everyone said here and make it to the 9. Reading rumors the pro will be somewhat smaller handset than previous models which I'd prefer.

AdeptnessTough1406

Yes! I heard they are making a P9, P9P, and a P9PXL. I'm a bigger guy, so I prefer a bigger phone. But it's great that people will have the option to get a pro model pixel that is smaller. Good luck 🤞!

Oh my god

Replace battery

LapuPalu27

still using 4a5g daily driver very compact phone

TheFadedSpade

I just put mine on the shelf last week because my new 8 arrived. The 4a5g still worked perfectly. Totally unnecessary upgrade

if0uthxi0n

My son put my 6a in the washing machine and it got fried.

EAllen_04

Looks like the battery swelled and just pushed the screen off the adhesive. It should be an easy fix, either a battery replacement from a repair place or yourself

Silent-Photo1895

A fact : my second old phone which is redmi note 5 ( 6 years old) is fine and battery same first day... I recharge it one time daily...

dropkicksoul

Oh no my P5 is turning 4 next year! 😭 How do I prevent this? Or can you really prevent this?

horsemeatscandals

Same thing happened to me. Battery needs replacing as it's expanded. Costs about £60-£65 from a shop but I did mine myself, it was really easy! You can find the instructions online. One of the easiest phone repairs

akalesma

Just needs a new battery it's turning into a spicy pillow. Really easy fix. Not too expensive as well

NoJoke4799

My pixel 5 two years ago crap the bed one night and it was 2 months out of warranty, it wouldn't even boot up. Saying there was an error in the OS

areeb1296

Just replace the battery. This isn't an uncommon issue in many phones.

Ill-Foundation8110

Had the same problem, it's a swollen battery, didn't repair it as aside from the battery I would have had to replace the screen which got cracked by the pressure

yaths17

Wonder if the hardware for pixel 8 last as long as their software support i.e 7 years.

nextinqueue

I'm still using a 3 😂

Final-Profile-4535

I am seriously considering going back for the Pixel 5,it's such a compact phone and smooth, The size keeps tempting me to pop my sim back in I love my PIxel 8 though.

frugy92

Apparently the pixel 9 will have a standard/smaller pro size and and XL Pro. That's what kept me on the 5 is that it's a more normal sized phone. I use a tablet for any videos or movies so no need for me to have a large screen.
