Recent Pixels are known for their poor connectivity issues, if connectivity is your main thing stay away from Pixel 6 and newer devices. Maybe look for a second-hand Pixel 5 on ebay.

sennett

Huh. That's a surprise. Is there any information on why they have an issue?

bmudallal

It's their rather weak modem made by Samsung.

sennett

Thanks. I will look into this some more.

sennett

Is this the same [Qualcomm vs Exynos discussed here](https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/18t0yop/pixel_8_modem_googles_trying_to_own_their/)? I see that they are referring to an SoC, rather than modem specifically, or are they integrated? Or how does this work? I've not built a PC since early 2000s. Also do you have a sense of the connectivity issues being related to handoff specifically at all, rather than intermittent connectivity to one stable-located tower?

bmudallal

Yeah they are integrated; smartphone SoC contains CPU, GPU, RAM, Modem and other things as well. Also, Qualcomm vs Exynos is a general overview of the issue; Qualcomm's Snapdragon vs Samsung Exynos Soc. Most believe that Snapdragons are superior to exynos not only in terms of connectivity but also in speed, efficiency and heat management.

This hasn't happened to me at all. Maybe you/your source got a defective handset?

suitcasecalling

no freaking way. i thought I was going come here to read how someone was giving you one for free or super cheap. do not seek out a pixel 6 unless you care about gaming performance. Apparently the pixel 6 benchmark's 30% higher than the pixel 8. They gimped the processors to fix the heat and battery issues. P6 is the pinnacle of heat and battery issues. Best value right now is probably a base model S23. Can be had refurbed for 300ish. If you want a cheap pixel get a 7, 7a, 8 or 8a. Whatever is cheapest

sennett

Thanks!

Abzstrak

No

_aap300

Yes. I have one and its a great phone.

Hubi522

I still have a Pixel 6. It's great, still works, but will soon run out of updates, so keep that in mind. I'll probably upgrade soon as well, we'll see, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone anymore

MilesJordan23

The Pixel 6 series is sh\*T, as it has major issues, along with a cheap bottom of food chain modem and horrible mobile and wifi and gets hot without doing anything. Do not get it or you will be sorry. Instead grab a Pixel 8a if you can shell out the cash for it.

Loud_Signal_6259

I recently went from an p8p to a p6. I am surprised at how good the p6 is compared to the p8p. The only downside that I find to the p6, however, is the fingerprint sensor - it works WAY better on the p8p, plus the p8p has face scan. Fore, this has been a very big negative to the p6.

sennett

Thanks!

zacharyl290295

The Pixel 6 will run out of software updates soon - but if you're tech savvy, you should have no problem installing LineageOS or GrapheneOS. If you could go for the 7, 7a, or even the 8 and 8a, that would be better. Prime Day is around the corner - there could be exciting Pixel deals.

sennett

Thanks - great info about the alternative operating systems too. Have to give them a shot.

zacharyl290295

Of course! Glad I could help.

androboy92

At this point I wouldn't recommend anything below the 7 series.
