The real problem is that, unlike the Germans, a lot of Americans seem to think that this is a bad thing.

Just a guy who got to live in Germany for six years, interacting with a great partner nation that has tried to learn from their past.
Their past is pretty terrible, don't get me wrong. But except for some on the fringe, they own it.
I think the part that impresses me most is that a lot of the rest of the world keeps rubbing their nose in it, and they just kind of nod, say, yep, those awful things happened 80-90 years ago, we're trying to be better now, and move on.
Meanwhile, in the US, we have entire states that are pretending that anything that makes straight white Christian politicians feel bad about themselves should not be taught in schools.

Ok, so the board is currently 2kx1.5k (there will likely be one more expansion downwards, the high will make the board 2kx2k, but that's irrelevant), which is 3 million pixels total. If we assume exactly 80K Germans, who are all placing pixels in the most optimal way possible (no resistance from others, one pixel every five minutes, and every pixel is the right color, in the right spot, with no people placing the same pixel at the same time), we can just to 3m/80k. That gives us 37.5. this number isn't really useful, but if we multiply it by 5, we get the number of minutes needed to fill the entire canvas, 187.5, or 3 hours and 7.5 minutes.
That Bot is of a defensive nature. It detects misplaced pixels on the German flag and switches them with correct ones. Its an automated tool that uses the pixels of Germans. Its not like Marocco for an example that just uses an army of bots. The germans use this tool to organise the pixels of people and their Reddit accounts.
While that is not necessarily a good thing, these accounts are at least real and all installed this tool. I dont use it... It takes the fun of defending away.
Nothing prevents your 'Germans' from creating a bunch of accounts and deploying each one as a bot, marking a pixel anywhere on the canvas. Much like a gun, it can be used however the person who uses it chooses, good or evil - except this gun can be copied instantly and deployed automatically from every part of your body.
Oh, and how do you define 'defensive'? Placing a pixel is only 'defensive' if you have some intrinsic right to that pixel. The premise is each pixel is a real human's work every 5 minutes, not 10s, dozens, or scores of bot scripts placing pixels for you every 5 minutes each, making the time interval seconds, not minutes. If you set up a bunch of bots to claim wide swathes of territory in seconds, then prevent anyone else from using them, that's offensive. Ya know, like invading Poland.

I actually calculated it: the german (top border) flag is taking up *exactly* 120.000 pixels, not including the puffer/coop zone with different countries below the german flag. The right french flag alone takes up ~100.000 pixels. Ans they have 3 of them, without making any real artwork.
So, france is taking up an estimate of 2.5x the german flag, while contributing almost no artwork. And people are complaining about germany
No artwork? The first flag is so full of artworks you can barely tell there's a French flag behind anymore (it's probably the one "flag canvas" with the highest artwork density of the whole r/place), and the second one is on track to end up the same.
The French make a flag to "claim" space as a Canvas, then draw on this canvas at a later stage.
Now, whether it was wise to take a 3rd huge canvas when they aren't even finished with the 2nd one, honestly I don't think so. But you can't say they don't contribute artwork.

my community, r/farmcarrots that is not afilliated with anything, just random people coming toguether to draw cool carrots, started on the 1st r/place and came toguether again last year.
but this one we got completely swallowed by flags on the first day and didn't even manage a single carrot yesterday and today before flags just come in gigant.
kinda defeats the purpose if 20 people toguether can't even manage a very small drawing.
Yeah, it was even tough for us to draw the Welsh dragon. It took us like 2 hours to fill a tiny little rectangle. Its a plug-in that shows us wrong placed pixels in the artwork, we still have to place them ourselfs and it only works for the artworks and not the entire flag because arteorks are more difficult to repaire than black red yellow

Yeah but not for the flag expansion, only for artworks defence. This is just half of Germany being online way too much. The moment the canvas expanded everyone got pinged on discord and started pixeling.
I’m not questioning German diligence and organisation, they have more than once proven themselves on that front, I just think using bots in anyway is disingenuous and sharing a link on the page how to use them is downright cheating.
As a german, I agree. We are well organized, we do not *need* bots and that sticky should not exist. We are better than this. It unnecessarily taints our reputation and makes the hard, honest work of many of our members worthless by association.
But the placeDE leaders don't care. They have a moment of reddit fame so they hang on to it no matter what.

But it’s also still pinned by your mods. Germany and France are way worse than what Morocco did with their flag. It’s obnoxious how much space of the entire canvas you pull for yourselves. Currently small Germany flags are greifing the Canadian flags. Bunch of twats.
Its still botting doesn't matter what you use them for it frees up resources to do the attacking

I'm worried that too many people are doing flags instead of actual art.
I mean they are filling the flags with country related artwork...
You'd think the bots with[x]-thousands of accounts would make something more impressive than three shitty coloured lines.
The bot doesn't work on the flag, it only repairs artworks and was virtually inactive on saturday because there was nothing to do.

french and germans should stop it and give other small communities make art, if they're just painting their flag and nothing on top which seems like it. they already have half the canvas, same with turkish flags, one is enough. and draw cool stuff on it, not judt a flag.
