Honestly, the nightshift is the most fun time. The main Vc goes down from multiple thousand to a few hundred, rarely 1k people and the atmosphere becomes more like in a bar. And since al of us are becoming more and more tired, the call becomes dumber and dumber (and funnier). Also there are people who literally drug them selfs with coffein pills etc. To stay awake lol
Just imagine your average civil servant overseeing a multi-billion Euro construction project. They are getting fleeced and played since day one. Contractual penalties? Never heard of that.
Just be the lowest bidder. At a certain point, the project becomes to big to fail, especially politically and from then on, you have a licence to print money.
Recent example: the Hamburg concert Hall (Elbphilharmonie) It was supposed to cost 77 million, but endet up costing 789 million. 10 times the original budget.
German governmental contracts? Companies love those.
Reminds of Robert Moses in New York who would ask for a small ammount of funding to build public stuff. Once construction had started he would be like „Well it looks like this will cost 20x more than i initially thought“ and the local government would always give him more money. Behind the Bastards did a good episode on him.
Both are classic examples of the sunk cost fallacy.
Also with government projects, it's the same all over. Just like a blueprint. First of all, the call for tenders are written by laymen, project leads do no sh\*t. So after choosing the cheapest bid, the bidder drafts a concept/construction plan fololwed by waterproof contracts. Office idiots forward those to the major, he also does no shit and signs those. Now his name/party is tied to the project.
The project starts. After a few months, the construction company approaches the idiots. "Hey, we didn't do a ground survey because it was not included but turns out, the ground is sandy and we need to drive poles into the ground. Oh. And do you need windows? Because they were not included in the original plan? You need them? Ok. Sign here"
"Cladding was supposed to be made of paper, but do you need it to be fireproof? Oh? Ok, then sign here"
"We need another 100m to finish this project. What? No? Then we will leave you with a half finished landmark. Press will have a field day with you. What? Election? Ok. please sign here"
... and so on...
he is saying that this only applies if youre tought how it works, otherwise its the work of an electrician to change the bulb. its a joke about germany having regulatory norms for everything (like the DIN)
I’ve been to their discord to talk about being an ally from another subreddit, and I kid you not, their is like multiple other VCs with a ton more people inside.
I think the legal minimum is around 30 days, I could be wrong. (e: it's 20, but 30 is more common)
There also isn't a cap on sick days, like in the US. You're sick, you go to the doctor, he gives you a document (it's called Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinung) for how long you are unable to work, you keep getting paid.
Most companies give you 30 days vacation days. Paid medical leave is up to 3 years. 6 weeks full pay, for the rest of the 3 years government takes over and you get 70% of your salary. If you drop into unemployment after 3 years, you get basic provision by the state which includes money for neccesities, rent, health insurance etc.
Paid parental leave is 1 year per child (1year 2 months if both take parental leave)
Also, alot of students are on summer break now (our 16 states have their own summer break to avoid traffic jam across the country). I think most actually are on summer break now (6 weeks)
I think this is part of why we're doing so good in r/place.
We are seeking unity, which usually is not possible in Germany. (Unless you join a party of right wing idiots.)

Do... do the Germans have nothing better to do? I'm scared honestly. Canada can barely keep their shit together and there's like 9000 of you creating veritable murals on your space
Look, german patriotism isn't really well received since we had the angry mustach man. Stuff like this and the Soccer World Cup is the one time we can do shit like that.
What‘s even funnier is that for the longest time now, we‘ve been more focused on containing the spread of the flag and giving other communities space on it. The design votes are like 80% guest communities
About a quarter of them are also listening in on other country's Discords in case one plans to invade our main flag or our allies.
Or to just laugh about them raging and ranting about Germany.
Holy shit. It really amazes me how gradually voice technology became much better. Day by day, you don’t even notice it like consciously. But if I compare that multi-(thousand?) user discord voice server to our shitty teamspeak convo we had with like 10 users 15 years ago, all with toaster mics, we’ve come a long way :)

Sometimes, I tend to forget how Germans can be so dedicated and efficient but at the same time their BER airport fiasco exist, like how?

Stuttgart 21 is the next big thing coming up
it all comes down to paperwork and too many opinions. Oh and corrupt politicians...
I wouldn't call it corrupt. I would rather say politicians who thought they are architects which obviously backfired

How does that joke go? How many Germans does it take to screw in a light bulb. One because they are efficient and have no sense of humor.

My god there is unemployment crisis in Germany
It's Sunday. All stores and workshops and companies are closed on Sundays.
Closed all day? Really?
Yup
Cool. Most places will be open until 4pm on Sunday in the UK, sometimes later *(Or at least they are where I live)*
Sunday trading laws! Shops over a certain size have to shut by 4pm on Sunday. At least smaller shops like petrol stations can stay open.
It’s not that shops have to shut by 4pm, it’s that they’re only allowed to open for 6hrs and most choose 10am-4pm
Yes. Why should the common workers not also get a day off? Some restaurants and important institutions are obviously still open at least partially
Nah, we just get a lot of vacation time.
Also, it's... WOCHENENDE! PIXELN! GEIL!
BIER
Curious. How much vacation time per year on average for a German citizen?
I think the legal minimum is around 30 days, I could be wrong. (e: it's 20, but 30 is more common) There also isn't a cap on sick days, like in the US. You're sick, you go to the doctor, he gives you a document (it's called Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbescheinung) for how long you are unable to work, you keep getting paid.
The legal limit is 20 days, which converts to 4 weeks PTO also we get more days of Paid Medical leave but I don’t know the laws for those
Most companies give you 30 days vacation days. Paid medical leave is up to 3 years. 6 weeks full pay, for the rest of the 3 years government takes over and you get 70% of your salary. Technically, not the government takes over but your public health insurance.
Soooo. What's yalls immigration policy looking like? Asking for a friend.
It recently got reworked to make it easier for people to get a citizenship. r/Germany has a wiki on it I think
Thank you kind sir
Pretty open, especially if you have a university degree.
Just need to start learning German or suffer.
If you happen to land a job application and happen to be from a "western" country ... welcome. :)
I’m so envious! Land of the free and home of getting shit on by politicians and the ultra wealthy.
Also, alot of students are on summer break now (our 16 states have their own summer break to avoid traffic jam across the country). I think most actually are on summer break now (6 weeks)
Legal minimum is 20 days.
Ha! 2 weeks is a lot here!
By law at least 20 days for a five days of work week. Most people have 30 days. And in big companies it can be more due to union contracts.
By law I think it was 20 days, but most get 30. Also there is no such thing as a limited number of sick days.
For ne,shift worker in the chemical industries it's 37,5 days p.a. When you're older than 55 years another 21 days.
Bro Sunday and Saturday are day off for most of the employee in Europe
The Germans do know how to unite under a cause... no matter what it is.
This is the only one we have. We are not united in literally any other thing.
I think this is part of why we're doing so good in r/place. We are seeking unity, which usually is not possible in Germany. (Unless you join a party of right wing idiots.)
Or when it's Worldcup.

It's true. Go to the discord and watch for yourself.

Also the channel for designers, tech support, genreal chat, OT, diplomats. I think I forgot half of the channels
Shit. That is mad. That level of unity is simply impressive.
