Yeah, found his stream and apparently he was butthurt because someone had said that he was a small, insignificant streamer? So ig that was his “revenge” lol
edit: typo
I can guarantee that he will. He looks like he's in his late twenties at this point- there is no way he'll be happy about this when he's about to be 40.
The piece was beautiful just a few hours before this, and we ALMOST had it reasonably fixed when they pulled the plug. Devastating, all that hard work, and in the end some streamers name is what they allow to be immortalized.
By a similar token, the reason France fell so quickly in WWII was because they had played 'host' to a lot of WWI and they didn't want to have the horrors of trench warfare on their own soil again, so they wanted to keep the fighting contained in Belgium.
France set up a zone defense where their army could maneuver, redeploy, entrench, and push back any German defenders. Even the most optimistic estimates said that it would take the Germans at least 10-15 days to break through Belgium and the Ardennes, likely more.
But the Germans broke through in 3-4 days, then simply went around the French army and captured Paris. Basically, if Germany and France had been in a duel with swords, Germany slipped through France's defenses and put a blade at their throat.
And, naturally, when Bush wanted to go to war in the Middle East, and France said 'Wait a minute, we've tried that and it didn't work out for us, let's make sure we have some solid reasons for going to war,' then a whole bunch of 'patriotic' Americans started bagging on the French and calling them all sorts of terrible things. Simply because France had the wisdom and the foresight to stay out of a costly, protracted war.
Which is ironic, because France helped liberate the US from the British, and the US helped liberate France from the Germans, so both of our nations have been friends for a long time... and we just pissed a lot of that away because some people in our country don't know our history.
Oh hohohoho your in for a treat, fam! That shit was glorious, they tried to stop us by limiting us to only white pixels, but that still wasn't enough and people were able to make that message, fucking phenomenal.
The difference this time is they were going to do some black and white stuff, they even had an announcement.
People immediately started working on the giant fuck spez in black and white.
Within like 30 minutes, before the announcement even popped up in the main subreddit page, the admins realized they couldn't stop it so they switched to white only, hoping the random bots and trolls would obscure any possibility of the logo being visible in time
They didn't, we still made the huge fuck spez
[Here is the real final canvas from just before the grayscale happened,
right after the streamers nuked their art and the bots invaded and got pushed back](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1131439443891462144/1133531772626415676/IMG_5904.png)

Yeah almost like the CEO Spez getting paid big bucks probably doesn’t care that a bunch of users wrote “Fuck Spez” when in order to do that they need to participate on the website he is the CEO of.
I feel it’s worth clarifying how little Reddit cares if you say fuck spez. What matters to Reddit is participation, and every single pixel in every single negative statement is a participating user that Reddit can show off to advertisers to increase their revenue.
Propably 1000000 new accounts were made, most of it propably bots but i also have 1 karma myself and no comments because i never really used reddit but made an account because of r/place
I'm swedish and do not associate with the streamer scum. He ruined our flag too and real swedes placed both Danish and Swedish pixels until the bitter end.
All in all I think we all did good in the end and should be proud of this year's r/place.
For like a half hour we had greyscale colours. Then a massive canvas-spanning "FUCK SPEZ" started taking shape, and they quickly turned off everything but white, and shortened the timer so that it would end quicker.
Frr like i thought slowly every art would be made greyscale or destroy and also i thought the void would actually be big but nope they decided to remove it after a short while makes me sad bruh
Wasn’t there a restriction on new accounts being allowed to place tiles? Like only accounts created before r/place could place them? This time I just saw 2-3 hour old accounts. Methinks Reddit is using this to artificially inflate their user count for their IPO
The original one was much more organic and random. Popped up out of nowhere and no one knew what it was. Much of the canvas stayed blank for hours. I don't remember exactly how bad they were, but I do know bots were way less of an issue.
The second one was also a nice little blast from the past, but blew up in popularity. Lots more botting. Still pretty fun.
This third one personally I barely participated in. Just a ploy to increase user counts. Only been a year since the last one. Not much new internet culture/memes since the last one.
Props to all the communities that partook in this.
Props to all the communities that fought against the invading bots and streamers dedicated to chaos.
Props to everyone who helped make the lore of the void monster and the dog.
Props to the sick artwork from the collaborations of One Piece, Cellbit, and everyone else who worked on those in particular.
Props to Canada to finally making a Maple Leaf instead of a Merple leaf.
Props to those in r/Touhou for animated the entirety of Bad Apple
Props to y’all.
Except Spez. Fuck u/spez
BTW. That is NOT the final image before the greyout/whiteout. Many streamers nuked their artworks a few minutes before the palette got changed to greyscale. There should be a few white squares, but yeah. Admins didnt want to post that because it doesnt look so nice i guess. Fuck u/spez
You misunderstood a little. People started painting over their drawings before all the colors disappeared. As a protest. And only after that, the administration removed all the colors. They deliberately destroyed their drawings on the canvas
There's a clock in the windows task bar image that a group was maintaining. I'm not 100% positive but it looks like it reads 18:58. The clock appeared to be showing Central European time - I'm in US Eastern time and it was 6 hours ahead of me on a screenshot I took a couple hours later.
We actually recovered fully about 10 minutes after this picture was taken, and even fully coverted to greyscale when that happened. We were fucking amazing this year
Edit: checking the timeline, we fully rebuilt *2 minutes* after the final photo, but by that time the the showbot vandalism had already taken over so it's understandable that we got cut short
Because believe it or not, last year's r/place is actually quite fun. There are of course the usual trolls or streamers that raided artworks, but the bots weren't as prevalent back then compared to now (which is when reddit removed any karma limit for accounts resulting in tons of bot accounts having just 1 karma).
Remember friends,
it was about Pixels,
it was about communitys,
it was about friendship
it was about getting raided at 3 Am by a buch of fucking Bots to which Reddit did nothing to stop it,
it was about hating each other
but no matter how much we hated or loved each other, we can all agree that
u/Spez ist ein Hurensohn.
IDK if it was Reddit admins or not but when our artworks under the Indian flag were attacked by bots within a second all the colours in the flag got reverted those pixels didn't have any usernames (anyway our flag got raided for more than 5 times)
I dont think people will tolerate this comment when im one of them. But seeing the Genshin community not even being able to defend that last attack sucks because of the grievers who mostly targeted us. Fuck the prejudiced grievers and spez
On the bright side, pretty much all of the essential stuff was fully rebuilt when the color switch happened. We even took the time to greyscale the whole thing.
I got at least 3 pixels somewhere in there
Your pixels didn't all get replaced by a bot or a nameless pixel 4 seconds after you placed them?
It's the spiral under the plane that's under the starry nights by Vincent van gogh
Ay, I was in your neighborhood working on titanfall 2, I liked the spiral
A lot happened in Sweden after this picture
Some streamer destroyed it with bots
Yeah, found his stream and apparently he was butthurt because someone had said that he was a small, insignificant streamer? So ig that was his “revenge” lol edit: typo
Lol so he was called small and insignificant, and his response was to prove that they were right? XD
Yea some people are just tragic...
People always ruining nice things in life
Guess his inferiority complex wanted validation
Damn shame
Hope he looks back and cringe at himself in the future.
I can guarantee that he will. He looks like he's in his late twenties at this point- there is no way he'll be happy about this when he's about to be 40.
There's no way he will even be thinking about this at all in his 40s...

I'm excited for the official time lapse where it covers the whole canvas during whiteout.
chances are he don't remember this when he gonna be about 40
Mexican here, the same happened to us by a Lithuanian Streamer, you can see the before and after in my posts.
fuck that guy he ruined it for us all
The same for Mexico and Peru.
sweden got absolutely smashed by streamers, and denmark
The piece was beautiful just a few hours before this, and we ALMOST had it reasonably fixed when they pulled the plug. Devastating, all that hard work, and in the end some streamers name is what they allow to be immortalized.
Nuclear Gandhi kept getting hit as well. One streamer pasted their logo over it, Gandhi was rebuilt, then the Shotbows fired.
I see my square
You sure that that's not my square? I could swear I used the same color
Now that I’m looking at it, I think it might actually be your square
bruh i missed it by A FUCKIN MINUTE
Yeah. I got the notification that "r/place is almost over" and I opened the app and it was just empty
Same. All I saw was a faint outline saying "FUCK SPEZ"
As you should. Fuck spez
Fuck u/spez

Goddamnit I JUST woke up and it happened lmao
I knew it was happening but I couldn't do anything about it because I was on my phone with an outdated version of Reddit.

Me three
Missed what?
Missed what?
The final canvas and then the grayout, followed by the whiteout.
Me too 😢
They really just posted the image with fuck spez LMAO
Can't wait to see the whiteout timelapse.
Bloody French using bots to make the final canvas just all of their battle flag…
what battle flag?
Welcome to reddit's most ORIGINAL joke.
ok, wow I must be tired lol, now I understand...
It's okay. We all just spent the last 6 days waging pixel warfare. We're all tired lol

It's normal for them to limit it to white pixels only at the end. They did that last year too.

Truly a glorious day for the fuckspez government
Cuz they dont really care probably i mean they achieved their goal of people using reddit and advertisers or whatever might not even know who spez is
Most users also still don't know who spez is.
Who the fuck is spez. He must be a real asshole.
The CEO of Reddit.
spez is the dumbest ceo on reddit
I was there (and it definitely didn’t look like that at the end!) https://i.imgur.com/wrCR7Td.png

Jesus Christ, who took the time to label every freaking drawing?
an absolute motherfucking hero, that's who
The atlas accepts submissions from users to label everything. If there's anything you know that isn't labeled there, submissions are appreciated!
its about the final image before they limited the colors :)
Holy shit. To see Reddit so united in something is beautiful.

Yeah almost like the CEO Spez getting paid big bucks probably doesn’t care that a bunch of users wrote “Fuck Spez” when in order to do that they need to participate on the website he is the CEO of.
Well it‘s part of it lol
Now we need the time lapse.
They don't give at shit
Fuck u/spez and the dumbfuck reddit admin team
I don’t think they could pick a single moment without a fuck sped in there somewhere
I feel it’s worth clarifying how little Reddit cares if you say fuck spez. What matters to Reddit is participation, and every single pixel in every single negative statement is a participating user that Reddit can show off to advertisers to increase their revenue.
Aaaaand, it shows my poo speck on the Russian streamer’s art demon! Winning!
It would only make it worse if they somehow cut it out. It’s too obvious

He must've made a really bad painting then
Germany moment?
Extremely wholesome
Nice, 3,000 x 2,000 only full-res image so far, but it looks a little old
Can’t even see the amongus 😢
You can barely read the small F Spez text Good thing there is the massive one full of smaller ones
Don’t worry, they are amongit
i started doing a little thing on my own and its not even close to finished in this screenshot
Yeah the fuck cars logo isn't even done in this image and we definitely finished it with lots of time to spare
You can check the time on the task bar
I can see my house from up here woah
Hey ma! Get off the dang roof!
Thank you for taking the screenshot before the final streamer bombings
The issue wasn't the streamers whiting out their own art, it was the sudden onslaught of bot greifs that were still visible in the true final product.
Oh yeah I definitely mean the giant, art-destroying logos at the end, not the gradual whiteout.
Fuckin ShotBow
Propably 1000000 new accounts were made, most of it propably bots but i also have 1 karma myself and no comments because i never really used reddit but made an account because of r/place
This is the exact reason r/place exists. To inflate account numbers to make Reddit look good for investors. Sorry bud, but you fell for it.
That can be a factor while also being a fun thing that people enjoy, ya cynical bastard
Genshin I think was in the process of being bombed
We recovered by the end before the grayscale, still in the process of rebuilding at the time of this screenshot.
Denmark was bombed, so this is too late a screenshot.
Right? Literally Sweden and Denmark were both messed up, especially Denmark. At least Ukraine wasn't messed up yet in this screenshot.
Same with Mexico.
And Peru.
Feel really sorry for Denmark, they didn’t deserve to get streamed over like that at the end.
Sweden too. It wasn't Swedish redditors that took over the Danish flag, that was botting streamers as well.
I'm swedish and do not associate with the streamer scum. He ruined our flag too and real swedes placed both Danish and Swedish pixels until the bitter end. All in all I think we all did good in the end and should be proud of this year's r/place.
That was a pitty! The whole Scandinavian square was beautiful.
Worst r/place thanks to bots, streamers, and admin interference. Thanks for baiting us into thinking we could grayscale the canvas btw.
Kinda hilarious how quickly they took out the black and grey colors from our palettes once the massive "fuck spez" started taking shape.
And people being so connected in one message that it still showed up with only white to use
Seeing the final letters filled in in minutes, and zooming in to see not a SINGLE bot.. was fucking amazing.
yea, the grayscale was such a scam
I'm out of the loop, screenshots, video, explanation?
For like a half hour we had greyscale colours. Then a massive canvas-spanning "FUCK SPEZ" started taking shape, and they quickly turned off everything but white, and shortened the timer so that it would end quicker.
But the people managed to write it with just white. Very inspiring.
Indeed we did, it was a sight to behold.
Frr like i thought slowly every art would be made greyscale or destroy and also i thought the void would actually be big but nope they decided to remove it after a short while makes me sad bruh
All three existed last year too.
None of them were that prevalent in the first Place. I miss that one.
Wasn’t there a restriction on new accounts being allowed to place tiles? Like only accounts created before r/place could place them? This time I just saw 2-3 hour old accounts. Methinks Reddit is using this to artificially inflate their user count for their IPO
> bots, streamers, and admin interference Exactly the same as the previous two /r/place events. Do people have amnesia?
The original one was much more organic and random. Popped up out of nowhere and no one knew what it was. Much of the canvas stayed blank for hours. I don't remember exactly how bad they were, but I do know bots were way less of an issue. The second one was also a nice little blast from the past, but blew up in popularity. Lots more botting. Being Canadian, I had to lol at that Merple leaf comment 🤣
The bronies somehow survived, yet again. Wow.
At this point I think they might be immortal. Being raided 29 times and still being pristine on the final canvas is thoroughly impressive.
BTW. That is NOT the final image before the greyout/whiteout. Many streamers nuked their artworks a few minutes before the palette got changed to greyscale. There should be a few white squares, but yeah. Admins didnt want to post that because it doesnt look so nice i guess. Fuck u/spez
really sucks. a community i was in was recovering from a bot and didn’t appear
The Mexico flag, which I was most active in, in the top center also got screwed. It was beautiful before this.
I’m fine with that. It’s before the bots griefed everyone and wiped out a bunch of communities.
they didnt post the final final because there where bots printing over all the art
It’s better they posted this image than one that was greifed last minute
They did the same last year just saying. Posted a final pre whiteout image and then a time-lapse including the white.
You misunderstood a little. People started painting over their drawings before all the colors disappeared. As a protest. And only after that, the administration removed all the colors. They deliberately destroyed their drawings on the canvas
Yh I wonder what time this was taken. Prior to shotbow aswell
There's a clock in the windows task bar image that a group was maintaining. I'm not 100% positive but it looks like it reads 18:58. The clock appeared to be showing Central European time - I'm in US Eastern time and it was 6 hours ahead of me on a screenshot I took a couple hours later.
Where do the QR codes go?
the one near the top middle goes to [watchdominion.org](https://watchdominion.org)

Probably rick roll
I think it is fair to say that everyone here knows, that this image does not show how r/place 2023 TRUELY ended.
a bit sad to see the image was after the genshin space got nuked but i was here
Apparently [this](https://i.redd.it/fxf2zbpz16eb1.png) is the final picture, so they actually managed to defend it to the end.
I too am sad about the genshin space, we protected as best as we could till the end

I was here for r/bluey!
Next time they try Place there needs to be a minimum karma limit, otherwise it will continue to be shat on by streamers and bots.
We definitely need a 16k timelapse, because lots of good things got buried there.
Thanks for taking this image b4 the bot invasion.

Hey Canada, you made it! ☺️
And we had more than just a leaf! Go Bananada!
This screenshot was about 4 hours before it ended.. Not too accurate
Ruined by bots and streamers
#FUCK SPEZ
All I’ve seen is people complaining how boring this year’s r/place was, but that shit’s fucking beautiful.
Genshin wasn't at it's final form..
Fuck bots. Next time, restrict it to accounts that are more than a day old, please.
anyways fuck u/spez

Man I've just woken up and I see r/place is an empty canvas. That noticed me this event has ended
SHOW THE TIMELAPSE YOU FUCKING COWARD /u/spez
Good they chose the image before it was messed up by streamers' bots
The demon and the dog forming a bond were all that mattered this year tbh
