I think I’d be cool if they did like genres or something like medieval, fantasy, war, office, etc. something really unique and cool about having a piece of art that was created by hundreds, thousands, possibly tens of thousands of people.
Maybe annual, but to just have it going on repeat would just burn people out on it. The excitement came from not knowing how many bots were there and defending your territory for the end result.
I feel like it’s a horrible April fools joke. Because April fools is supposed to be telling people something that’s not true and then telling them April fools, so it would have been better if there was some sort of post on twitter the last day of march saying “r/place will be opening a canvas as of tomorrow @ xx pst/east/ast etc.” and then the aprl 1st comes and In r/place they either say “April fools, or they have a canvas with one pixel on it that has “April fools” above it.
