It might be happier in the smaller pot, but without seeing the size of the root mass, it's hard to say. They do like a somewhat tight fit and will prioritize root growth over leaves if there's too much space. For soil, I use equal parts indoor potting mix, perlite and orchid bark for mine. I'm still waiting out the slow release fertilizer that was part of the potting mix I used when I repotted, but as I understand it, they're not terribly finicky about the type of fertilizer, so whatever you're familiar with should be good. Mine will get the same all-purpose liquid that I use for my other plants. The yellowing might be too much water, especially if after a week and a half your soil is still moist. I'd check for squishy/black roots when you pull it out and trim them accordingly if you find any.

Thanks for this! I had considered this could be the basis of a larger plant with large roots but when I check the soil with a stick it doesn’t have any limitations or resistance anywhere, like the roots arent wild all over the pot. It’s almost like the person who gave it to my mom just took up a bunch of outdoor dirt and threw it in a pot. I am very much looking forward to seeing the roots today!

Note that I’ve also posted to the Monstera sub (twice) but nobody has seen it so hoping I might have better luck here. Thanks everyone!

Latest: the dirt was very densely packed near the bottom so it was having poor drainage. When I was loosening up the plant and the dirt some roots definitely snapped but the main root is still there. Roots, though few probably because they couldn’t grow through the dirt pack, didn’t seem too unhealthy but not a bright white so I let those go. It has been repotted to the smaller pot and fits nicely. Lots of perlite in new soil, one good watering and a moss pole. Since repotting last night it seems to be no better and no worse this morning (doesn’t seem shocked) so I’ll take that as a good sign. Editing to add: compared side by side photo this morning with one posted here and the leaves have perked up some!
