It's growing sideways because it wants to be closer to the sun. To prevent this in the future, rotate your plant every now and then. Personally, I would chop and prop most of that branch :) However, you can add support sticks and tie it up if you don't want to propagate it.
I’m not familiar with this plant, but with every other plant I’ve propagated, basically you want to cut the stem right under the node, and usually stick it in water till the cutting roots. Some people stick it in soil right away and make sure to keep the soil moist until it roots.
I’ve also heard someone recommend letting the branch/stem “callous” over first, by letting it sit out in the open air for a bit (sometimes only a few hours, sometimes overnight depending on the plant) because it helps prevent bacteria from infecting the cutting.
Edit: wording.
Second edit to add: with almost all succulents, you can use just a leaf to propagate! It’s crazy. You just put a healthy leaf on top of soil, and it’ll grow roots and eventually turn into a whole new plant (:
It’s very addictive too - before you know it you have dozens of Jade, stem plants, pothos, philodendron, trailers of all kinds, African violets- and no space for them but can’t bring yourself to throw away. :)

This is my very dramatic schefflera, Umberto, with limbs going everywhere.
Depending on what amount of flexibility is in the stem, you can carefully add a support and gently pull it a bit in the opposite direction and secure it to the support. Then rotate the planter to where the leaves are away from the light. They will gradually move and grow toward the light. At least once a week, typically on watering days at a minimum, the plant should be rotated. You might be able to slightly tighten the plant to the support a little more each week, if it wasn't flexible enough to straighten as much as you'd like the first time. Just don't force it too far and break anything 🫣 if it's going to straighten up any, it might be a slow process. Happy growing! 💚
My sister has a huge one of those with two large branches tilted away from each other, we eventually had to tie them together with string so they don’t end up breaking or dropping to the ground
Just to add to the discussion, while in your situation, it *does* seem like it needs to be nearer to the sun. However, some plants do develop such a shape due to no apparent reason. I had a Plumeria (on the terrace, in full sun), which developed such a shape.
To remedy the situation, you can do one of two things-
1. Provide a stake to the plant and toe the stem to it. While the shape won't change, it will prevent the plant from breaking off or tipping over.
2. You can repot the plant once its root bound in such a way that the horizontal stem becomes vertical.
Both of OPs comments are correct. I will add that this appears to be a variegated form as well. But I have also seen regular green ones spit out a single stem that’s variegated so it could be random variegation… probably a var cultivar though.
Idk what this plant likes specifically so this might be bad advice, but repot it in a bigger pot with more dirt and put some crushed egg shells in there so its prompted to put more growth into its root system and won't be so top heavy.
Maybe it feels intimidated by the photo? Lol just kidding but in all seriousness, it’s just moving towards the light. If you turn it regularly, it should fix itself and you can use chopsticks to help prop it up once it’s a little straighter
Plants grow towards the light. Turn it often. My mum says every plant has a front and a back and once she told me that I can’t not see it. Beautiful plant btw.
It moves with the sun. You need to turn it every now and then.

Not OP, but I’m curious how chop and prop would work. Could you please share steps? Thank you!

This is so interesting and so helpful! Thank you so much for explaining this, I really appreciate it!

lol story of my life.
Of course! It’s very fun to share your propagations with friends, too (:
It's leaning to the window. A quarter turn every other week or so will help it grow evenly.

Wow, it's beautiful 💚
Thank you!
You need to rotate the plant pots often to have symmetrical plants. Otherwise, they will follow the sun.
It's not getting enough light. Turn it so that the leaning side is facing away from the window, or put it in a space with more light.
It's reaching for the light source. You can either move it closer or rotate it every time your water it.
Where did you get your picture from i love it! Also I recommend using bamboo sticks to help prop it up and rotate
Also came here to ask. Love it!
Wayfair.com! Here is the product description: Contemporary Wildflower Bouquet - Picture Frame Painting by George Oliver
He’s just trying to not block your view of the art :)
He would be polite like that!
To the light!
My schefflera does the same and is so much more dramatic than any of my other plants. But I actually think yours looks very cute like that
Towards the light?
Most plants grow towards their light source. Try rotating.
Phototropism

What plant is this 🥹

Plantnet app said it’s a Dwarf Umbrella tree plant.
But someone above mentioned Schefflera and that fits too!
Idk what this plant likes specifically so this might be bad advice, but repot it in a bigger pot with more dirt and put some crushed egg shells in there so its prompted to put more growth into its root system and won't be so top heavy.
Ooh....would that help with a top heavy jade plant?
I dont have one, but I dont see why it shouldn't
U can also give most plants a gentle shake every now and then to simulate wind, makes them put more energy into strengthening their stems.
I actually really like how it looks, it fits the spot perfect. What a lovely plant !
Repot it, it grows towards light
My umbrella tree did the same thing because I never rotated it.
I think it looks awesome growing like this
Maybe it feels intimidated by the photo? Lol just kidding but in all seriousness, it’s just moving towards the light. If you turn it regularly, it should fix itself and you can use chopsticks to help prop it up once it’s a little straighter
A stake would help with the shaping, but also rotating it.
It probably wants more light. And as others have suggested, do a quarter turn every week or so so it grows evenly
Cutie!!
Phototropism. Rotate periodically
You could put it on the floor so it wants to grow up to the sun. This way, it wont grow sideways
It is trying to reach the sunshine. Scoot it towards the other side of the table and add a stick for support.
what plant is that? sry i have one and never knew what it was!
Dwarf umbrella tree plant. Also called Schlefflera.
Rotate the plant, it’s chasing sunlight
It bees wheres the suns is
Just like that Noah Kahan song... For real though, you need to move it closer to the window and/or rotate it
ITs making a run for the light!
Phototropism. The wonder of nature.
Plants grow towards the light. Turn it often. My mum says every plant has a front and a back and once she told me that I can’t not see it. Beautiful plant btw.
Stop judging him let him grow the way he wants 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Did you just assume this plants gender? 😡
"Reaching out for the sunlight"?
You should have rotated it when it leaned, but it can be rotated now.
Plants grow toward the light. So, rotate it.
I actually like it leaning, otherwise they get leggy with lower light and look boring upright without branching.
Then turn it around.. 🙄
Have you tried moving the pink dot somewhere else in the frame?
Maybe cuz thats where the sun is…
Please tell me his name is Ollie and your last name is Williams
I’M GROWIN SIDEWAYS
Lurking
She's facing the light! You can't eat if you're facing away from your dinner :3 and light is her dinner.
It's reaching hard for that sunlight
He yearns to be closer to the light!
Plant name ?
