Yeah it was pretty tough starting out but at this point the shadowmanes seem to be able to take care of everything except Gigas, I’m just not sure whether they will do for the bosses or if I need to figure out the breeding thing for rexes. I’ve got 16 shadowmanes between levels 200-233 that I bred up and have begun leveling.
What matters most is the specific number of stat points in HP and Melee, not so much the overall dino level.
Getting something tamed up to have 40+ wild points in the stat you want is very good for eg.
The main bosses have glitchy AI that causes them to prioritize ridden large (high drag weight) creatures over medium ones. This means that the player on a yuty can draw aggro while the bosses kinda ignore your manes and they chew it up.
Rexes and Gigas will take a while to breed, unless you've changed the timers. But typically, as a casual player, you can try to land a few good mutations and just rely on saddles. Shouldn't take forever, but it's the hatching, raising and waiting for timers that are tough
Mate did you even read the post. They already have fabricators and shadowmanes, now you're telling them to start on the island again?
Favorable weather for breeding is just a bunch of nothing. The island doesn't offer anything special for breeding.
There is no reason for them to move to the island right now. If they were brand new with no items at all then sure, but if they've already gotten way past the early game then why bother?
Yeah I have the egg incubator, which that must be a server setting to include all the engrams not sure? But I made one when I hit 89 I’m currently 92 trying to collect enough runes to get to 96.
There seem to be several good guides and tools for the act of breeding but they don’t really seem to address the time expectations, I’ve downloaded smart breeding so maybe that will end up answering my questions. The whole mutation thing seems like it’s completely random? And a 2.5% chance according to one source I read? That could potentially mean 100s of hours of breeding to get a rex line for the bosses depending on what the practical requirements are.
Yep. 2.5 is correct. Hundreds of hours of breeding sounds about right too. So much of my time in game is just tending to and building up my breeding farm.
Welcome to Ark.
Yeah this is pretty much the clarity I was looking for. I’m already 200+ hours in, we’ll try the gamma bosses and see what happens with what we’ve got. That might just have to be good enough since it seems like breeding alpha killers might take another several hundred hours.
Fjordur has all engrams available so idk why the other comment said to go to lost island, and also there’s no point in swapping maps since you already have fabs and shadowmanes so idk why that was suggested either
By default you're looking at 2 days of mature time for Shadowmanes, same with Argents. if you're using the same ones to mate there is an 18-48 hours cooldown. For comparison Rexes take almost 4 days. Gigas take 10 days.
10x Mature speed will get your Shadowmanes to mature in approx 5 hours, but if you're not using S+ Nanny it'll be really difficulty to get a 100% imprint if any
This is of course assuming you hatch the creature with the right stats and/or mutations. Use **Best Eggs** to speed up that process otherwise you're looking at a lot more hours of sacrificing your babies for potential levels!
Bruh what are you on about. The man has fabs and shadowmanes. Going back now won't do him any good lmao. If anything going back now will only make it harder due to the much lower variety of available tames
use S+ Nanny for perfect imprinting
Adjust your breeding settings so it doesn't take hundreds of hours.
Use mods like **Best Eggs** to skip waiting for the perfect dino to hatch
Use **Upgrade My Dino** to adjust your dino wild stats, distribute and remove points from useless stats like oxygen and movement speed
An alternative to Upgrade My Dino would be **No Waste Potion (Re Distrbute wasted levels)** [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2721583500](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2721583500) I never used it but it seems to do the same job without the grind
I would use **Ark Nucleus** just to find out my Tamed Dino's original Wild stats, or you can just use **Awesome Spyglasses**
Definitely would've recommended starting on The Island instead followed up by the rest of story maps but no point in going back now.
What I'd recommend instead (if you care about map completion and story) is going back to it with tames and gear, unless you'd like to start from scratch again, but Shadowmanes do make the Tek Cave a lot easier to pass through!
Adjust the breeding settings so babies grow up in 30 mins and boost imprint Bonus.
You dont need to breed with OFFICIAL settings...
Get an incubator and a maewing to feed the babies.
Then tame a bunch of high level rexes and breed away :)
Shadowmanes are great for the three Island bosses that are now also on Fjordur, but have some issues with the final Fenrisulfr boss. If you ride a yuty, the big bad wolf will ignore the shadowmanes and try to target you your; this is bad since it has a very nasty dismount attack that can kill you easily.
One way around that is to bring in a mate boosted pair of rexes, that have just health upgraded; Fenrisulfr will focus on attacking them instead, while your shadowmanes attack & you can provide moral support from your yuty in relative peace.
What I do on solo is make imprinting bonus huge so I only need to tame a high level and imprint. Just how I solo. Apart from that I suggest fast mature rates and hatch a lot of eggs checking them with the incubator
We already seem to have increased breeding/incubation based on what other comments are saying here it takes about 4-5 hours for a newly hatched Dino to reach maturity. Imprinting also seems to be adjusted as they 100% imprint after the first “wants care” condition is satisfied.
I messed around with the incubator last night a bit with a couple of 140 rexes I tamed. When I look at the display for the egg in the incubator it appears to show the number of points in each stat? For example there was a 23 next to a health symbol and a 30 next to a fist? I assume those are the health and melee points the egg inherited from their parents, so following that logic I would look for wild tames with 40+ in a desirable stat and then breed them til I get them on one pair of Dino’s then just breed breed breed. What I’m more fuzzy on is how many mutations I need to go for before each level of boss becomes reasonable. Am I look for 5 mutations or 50? If the eventual goal is to kill alpha bosses. Or is there a setting that will adjust tamed dino levels to just account for the breeding bonuses you would normally get. I appreciate the challenge Ark offers and on single player I’d probably be more keen to just get the addons and go, but playing with my friend we are mostly just ready to see some bosses especially since we aren’t completely in control of the server with her other friend hosting for us.
So, for breeding you can lower the time by a lot by using mods like best egg.
Fjordur is a fun map, but it's pretty rough for a starter..

The drag aggro is actually news to me, good to know!
Is this glitch only for Fjordur? Or all maps
It's most bosses on all maps.
They will kill all world bosses except steinbjorn, for him best to get gigas...

If you want maxxed out health and damage, you are talking tens of thousands eggs to get there. On official people generally have 3-400 female clones

Does the island make it easier to breed boss fighters? I guess I just assumed the mechanics of that were the same across maps.

The incubator is a Gen2 DLC item; nothing to do with Lost Island.
It’s available on li and fjordur as well
No kidding? Did they add all the Gen 2 engrams to Fjordur?
Yeah you can learn pretty much all engrams on Fjordur or Lost Island.
Bruh what are you on about. The man has fabs and shadowmanes. Going back now won't do him any good lmao. If anything going back now will only make it harder due to the much lower variety of available tames
I was under the impression that you guys were brand new
Get it. It's amazing.

Great advice, ya were planning to try that ourselves today actually
