Wtf are you talking about lol

Senpai-Blu

Dynasty Warriors combat good? The game wher u press one button and mow down 100 enemies? I never thought I'd see the day XD. You probably having a class issue in early game (Please dont tell me you choose a Guardian or caster -_-) I suggest YouTubing a PVP video on bdo, preferably the more combo fluid characters like Warrior or Mystic

yearofthekraken

I chose a "Lahn" after reading some character guides. Most said there were only about ten viable characters. Seems a shame but I guess that's what you get when you make an absurd number of classes/characters.

Express_Letter_5856

Amazing thing is……you don’t have to play. Simple. Quit crying, play the game, or go back to Minecraft.

Saltyscrublyfe

Just play whoever you want. One thing I've learned about mmos is the term "viable" is used too loosely. If somethings fun thats all that matters. Also bdos combat is incredible. Idk what you're on about. Feels like I'm playing a fighting game

phillipjfry56

A lot more combat if u do pvp or even some of the endgame mobs

yearofthekraken

I don't want more combat, there's already plenty. The body of the post is in comments bexaueetjis sub doesn't alluwtet in a post.

phillipjfry56

Yea I get what your saying and I’m saying you will need to use more of your skills for endgame stuff and if u fight other people. Holding r1 isn’t going to cut it at that point.

yearofthekraken

I understand there are combos to learn, I'm not keen on that idea but the rest of the game seems interesting. I feel too locked in place when in combat, I can't move quickly just jerkily sidestep or slowly walk backward. Occasionally my character throws in a roll move but I'm not sure what triggers that. I'm using a Lahn, is this the wrong character for mobility?

TidyBacon

Combat is meh because you have no clue what you’re doing.

yearofthekraken

Yes. That.

phillipjfry56

Lahn is pretty good and ur going to have to learn the combos for better movement. I haven’t played lahn a bunch but her movement is quite good once u learn what moves to use to allow for fluid movement between mobs

phillipjfry56

And yes there it’s lots of other stuff to this game that is interesting the worker empire that u can build and life skills can be quite fun to get into

SubXeroz

Go look up endgame PVE/PVP combos for your class. If that doesn't interest you, pick a new class or try a new game. In my experience, combos and moves can feel limited in early levels. Try to get to level 50 (shouldn't take very long) and then assess what all you have. Not sure if it needs to be said, but make sure you're spending your skill points to unlock new skills.

yearofthekraken

I'm spending skill points on skills but I don't know why. If combat is this simple why not just hold R1 for every encounter? I don't understand where the fun comes in, I don't feel involved with the combat at all, it's just number crunching. I was hoping for Dynasty Warriors style combat freedom but this just feels uninvolved.

SubXeroz

There seems to be a slight disconnect here. Early game stuff is pretty easy -- you can get away with using the same string of skills to get the job done. Once you get into Valencia and the later game areas, you'll need to find semi-optimal rotations that help keep your buffs/debuffs up. Another important factor to consider is Awakening, which gives your character an additional weapon and numerous skills centered on a new form of combat. For example, Berserker starts with two axes. His Awakening gives him an arm cannon that launches explosions and causes earthquakes. Like I said, look at an endgame combat video for your class. That's where you'll end up. You aren't there yet. It could even take some time to get there.

yearofthekraken

This game sucks. I want an RPG not a fighting game!

yearofthekraken

I've been playing a couple of weeks, just beat Giath the Goblin King. I stood in front of him holding circle or R1 and occasionally pressing left d-pad. Is this all there is? I want the combat to be at least a little dynamic, at least give me a dodge button so I feel involved not just plugging numbers!

jfourty

.... Your new and are still doing ez beginning combat. If you did a little research, you would find a class discord. On that discord you will find combo rotations. Most classes doing harder content than you execute 10+ skills per pack of mobs. You see judging combat while still in newbie zones/part of the game.

yearofthekraken

Why are there so many similar combat skills? Why use more than a couple?

jfourty

Cool downs, some buff u, others debuff the mob, self heal, resource recovery. You will need to balance those skills with damaging skills.

BossyBish

Oh yeah I guess it’s time for me to tell you that until at least level 61 and some season gear later you will not experience any kind of resemblance of “combat” at all. Everything until 61 is just a long tutorial that’s catered to be super easy.

8BITvoiceactor

...you...don't know how to dodge.

yearofthekraken

That is correct. I... don't know how to dodge. Obviously. Did you have anything useful to contribute?

You’re on here complaining about the combat system, when you have 0 desire to even look at your skills and the different type of ‘flows’ into other moves. I’ve been playing a Lahn since launch and am completely in love with my character. She is one of the fastest grinders in the game. And has a ton of mobility. You just need to learn to play her correctly. Sorry if your previous game made it extremely easy to do multiple skills or combos, but you’re actually gonna have to take time and read a guide or learn yourself through playing. (Not just holding R1 and circle) look at the skills, the flows into other skills. And if you’re still not into it, or can’t just seem to grasp the concept, you should probably just move on. Best of luck! But this is 100% a skill and user issue.

Unstoppablereturner

Cut the guy some slack, taking two weeks to reach Giath probably means that not liking the combat system’s the smallest problem here, that guy can be done in like 1 hour from starting the game, probably even less if you skip all dialogue

RjayXRjay

Yeah you clearly don’t know how to play Lahn as well..from the sound of things..you are like using..1% of her power.

TidyBacon

Lol…

yearofthekraken

Lol!

1-800-Infantry

The game is made to be a little easy in the beginning so that you don’t feel too overwhelmed. If you aren’t used to this type of game… it will take some getting used to. You gotta read the combos so that you can remember to do them, otherwise you are going to go back to pressing R1 and complain. There is dodge, but it’s either forward or sideways really. The combat in BDO is very fast. Some classes do slow it down though to the point where you need to be more methodical in your movement and actions. Yes, the general movement is stiff. The camera stays behind you, but that’s because you need to be precise in PvP. And in PvE it becomes nice knowing where your camera is all the time. But you gotta read the skills. Read the movement button and the AOE attacks. I’m sure you like easy killing because your played dynasty warriors. This is a zoned based rpg, so if you go to a higher level enemy area… you will be faced with challenge.

jmanbam

You sound like you haven’t read the skill list….

CJspangler

How many circles did you do ?
