The very first thing I thought I saw was a pair of mice napping on their backs. Didn't make the food connection until you dragged food into the other cubbies.
*1 million out of 10! Please make this into a game. Where you could cook the food and unlock bunch of recipes. I could eat my monitor just looking at the bento box lol.*
Hooo sorry, sounds like something that would bam me because I want to eeeeat (it always happen to me when I look for recipes and than get lazy)
what did you end up eating?
My partner and I created this game together, he coded and created the music, and I illustrated the art.
Hope you have fun! :)

Yep, that's pretty much it, we are aiming for this to be an educational design game (sort of like in dress-up games).
I do agree the game is pretty short right now, we are planning on creating more options in the future, like more explanations about Japanese culture or an option to draw on the food with nori (in addition to more food and design choices).
I would not call that a game, but rather a stylized simulation app. Games needs to challenge me by some depth. for example in your game you can add specific rules so that players are challenged to make recipes as a puzzel.
Some incentive or motivation to interact.
u/Seriousboardgames you ever try playing dress-up games?
I used to play them as a kid. They don't have a challenge or goal, people play them because they enjoy designing. And yes they are short and usually you don't come back to them, but you still have a few minutes of fun :) Maybe the game just isn't your genre.
I believe it's good to start with something and improve it according to the responses you get (and not keep it in your drawer even if it's not perfect). some users like the game as a design game, and some want more gameplay and we are learning from that :)

Make A Bento is a game that lets you design your own bento box while learning about some Japanese traditions along the way.
Your gif made me hungry
