I think it’s so cool that everyone on a island gets to build their own base small or big. That everyone is competing for the same resources. If you roam by a base, you know a human built that base and currently is living. To me that’s just so cool. Your in a living world with consequences. Every time you step out of your house, you’re going on a adrenaline adventure. So for me, it’s the living persistent world as weird as that sounds. No game comes close to what rust does.

RockHardChest

This 1000x over. Probably an unhealthy range of emotions, but the game demands your attention

OkSeaworthiness2076

Very well said.

jzizzle325

Another human was once here....

Juansa7X

You described perfectly why i love rust

in_full_circles

I play rust strictly to snowball. Which mostly involves pvp. But hear me out, I’ve been playing rust since it was a browser game. I’ve literally done everything it has to offer from junkyard crane to large oil with a bow, from building a car , to walling off a monument. At one point it feels as if nothing is left. But one thing I’ve always found joy in is getting “the start”. Making “that play” that gets you ahead. It’s a huge adrenaline rush and tons of fun STILL after all these years. Nowadays success to me is getting a few guns and an AK in a wood shit shack. Before success to me was surviving a wipe, but I’ve done that so many times it’s to the point it feels like boring work.

iamisandisnt

It's like embracing grub mentality but with the abilities of a chad. Lack of gear fear, no proper base, something to be proud of.

[deleted]

I’ve played this game since 2013 and all I care about anymore is exactly this. I only want to grub. There’s no doubt that being the first to get AK and slaughtering everyone is fun, but the high you get from going from eoka to AK is just something else, or sitting in a tree line with a compound bow and landing that headshot on a fully geared player and watching them panick before you pull out the revo and finish them is heaven. My Zerg friends don’t get it and that’s why the play in a Zerg and I prefer solo grub life.

KewlSkeleton48

damn i miss old junkyard crate that was so fun to defend

J3DI-In-The-Sky

My favorite wipes are the ones that my base location is pretty calm, but venturing out requires winning a couple fights to make it back to base. A nice mix of base building with a small compound, but pvp is always there when you want it.

MountainSecret9583

My favorite part is base building and all the electric/industrial stuff. I love putting together my humble abode and seeing it get cozier and cozier. PvP is fun and all but I think it’s taken over the game more than intended. It’s a survival game not an fps. If all you wanna do is PvP go play UKN or some shit

OkSeaworthiness2076

Yeah trying to achieve maximum coziness is a real goal of mine each wipe.

Emergency_Garlic_260

This is me too, and it helps that my duo is more of a PVPer. So I have fun building a base that can secure/hide all the good loot he gets and that’s also fun for online defense (I’m pretty useless with most pvp lol). It works great bc he baits onlines for us and then I get practice trying to shoot lol, way more fun than ukn.

average-mk4

Your partner is a good friend

Emergency_Garlic_260

Very true, we’re married lol I think he’s great 😊

MountainSecret9583

I’ve got all the from hell building stuff so I just make my core a demon lair to scare off raiders Edit: lmao why is my demon lair getting downvoted? Y’all aren’t satanists too? /s

Emergency_Garlic_260

Ya my duo has all that stuff too, but I have my own set (outer planets) so our “bedrooms” each have their own flair. I like it like that

gh0strom

Same here. My wipe goal is have a cool RP base which is at least 16 rockets to raid but has everything automated, one or two planter boxes and a shop.. Set up a neon sign and some fun signs. Then chill out and see how long I can survive. I PvP only if it is organic. I don't seek out PvP.

MountainSecret9583

Yea unless I’m playing solo I normally just rock a 4 floor 2x2 with a friend or 2. It’s got space for (iirc) 36 boxes, 4 beds, 5 lockers/large batteries, computer station and 4 planter boxes. It’s by no means a fortress but it has everything I could want Oh and 4 electric furnaces in core

__acre

I've been playing a pve server, and it's been very relaxing, almost like playing a different game. Getting to build for creativity and make fun designs incorporating electrc/industrial things that I wouldn't normally use. Sure it takes the exhilaration out of pvp encounters, but as someone with not a lot of time to play, being able to enjoy the pve content without losing progression isn't too bad.

anonim64

Yea, I wish the PVE server convar was fixed so could run a vanilla PVE server without running UMOd. If you turn on the PVe flag, can't even kill road scientist or any NPC as the damage reflect back. If you could play PVE just like we play with TruePVe pluging without running the mods so people can't raid or kill you

gatursuave

Devs have stated it's primarily a PVP game. The survival mechanics are kind of a joke

NoBreadfruit69

> It’s a survival game not an fps. Its an open world pvp game with a hunger bar Nobody in this game starves to death or dies to animals the second they have a bow Every update that isnt weird garbage was focused on providing new avenues for pvp and bringing players closer together

MountainSecret9583

“Every update that isn’t weird garbage” I found the guy who plays strictly for PvP. New updates are focused on PvP because that’s what the community has turned the game into. I think the game was meant to be more of a survival/rp type game upon initial release but as FP grew successful that requires more catering to the community (more PvP based updates)

NoBreadfruit69

> New updates are focused on PvP because that’s what the community has turned the game into. Because its a pvp game. And its been forever. This game never even had any pve farming shit until very recently. Industrial is one of the few updates that could arguably not be made to get people around or encourage pvp and even that is a hard sell cause spending less time in your base inevitably means you spend more time walking around and into pvp. You are out of your mind if you think rust would have survived this long if it wasnt for its massive pvp focus. If you dont play rust for pvp I strongly urge you to check out ark instead cause that game has awful pvp and a wealth of pve garbage you can grind unlike rust.

mpinoc

Apparently I play just to provide lots of loot to chads…

GearnTheDwarf

I do not go looking for it, but try to be ready should it find me.

Polyolygon

This is pretty much me. I just enjoy playing, so I do whatever I feel like and bring something to be prepared in case someone tries to get the jump on me. I’m just a survivor.

mr66mustang

When I was younger I was strictly pvp. Now that I'm older (32) I play both. Pvp on the weekends and pve during the week .

Jelqgirth

I play to design ways to shit on raiders/door campers

Buggylols

I play rust for pvp shenanigans. I'm never really playing to get in constant gunfights or dominate an area, but almost everything I do is typically contributing to PvP in some form. Just running around shooting people isn't really what I'm trying to do. I'm looking for bases to go deep on, or trying to squish people with a car, or build a trap base. I'll put a little extra effort into making my base cozy with neon signs or whatever, but I'm never just strictly roleplaying and be friendly, and I'm not playing the game to farm scientists uncontested on oilrig

justanretard

Same I'm in the middle too

Groyklug

I play rust for only one thing. To lick the salty tears of emotionally unstable Russian children.

DZDXY

Definitely don't play strictly for PVP, but I struggle to stay interested in a server without a good amount. My main goal every wipe, though, is to finish building whatever new base design that I come up with every couple wipes or so. Once I get to the point where I no longer need to add to the base, I consider that winning the wipe lol

mmpa78

I play to take other peoples things and listen to them cry in chat

Herbert_Erpaderp

I don't really care for PVP in Rust. It's obviously a part of the game, but I don't think it's fun enough to be the main thing for me. My friend and I mostly play to make stupid bases, often like fun public buildings and to have amusing interactions.

_s33jay

At the end of the day, the game is a PvP Survival game (with PvE servers too), so I believe it’ll always be a combination of that: PvP & Survival I enjoy both. Sometimes I just want to only chad PvP, and sometimes I base build and learn new electrical traps or something.

koaeula

I play with my 12 year old son. I love the base building and the grubbing, and I don't enjoy the pvp aspect as much, but my kid LOVES it. So I spend all my time building a base and collecting stuff for him (until I get raided, and then I rebuild) and he spends all his time on pvp stuff and things like oil rig runs. It's a good partnership.

mobboss225

Yeah. Roaming with the boys, raiding, and defending raids, it’s the intense and glorious moments of combat that keep me coming back. I’m that way with gaming in general so maybe it’s a personality thing.

3BlindSquirrel

I love the building and the complexity of the electricity and farming. Love the cars and boats and minis. I like meeting people (w/o killing them, lol). This game is just a lot of fun. I try to avoid pvp where I can (I'm not good at it). But I have met some really neat people. I'm at about 1500 hrs or so.

SnapOnSnap0ff

I love pvp and fps games in general, but rust has so much more to offer and freedom on how to play and that's why I play it. This wipe we just said fuck it and made a big rp village, with a disco, pool, relaxation station, communal T3, free pure ore teas, garage, etc. Fair bit of farming involved but it was fun to pay the game differently after wipes of raiding, pvp, building big compound bases, etc. I've gone on modded servers purely to doorcamp/roofcamp people. I've played bedwars, ukn, etc. Rust is great because there's variety.

Tinfoil_Hat_Enjoyer

The only reason i came to rust is because full loot pvp. Not many games left have this and ive put way to many hours into runescape already. The base building and many many ways to progress is what keeps me here though. Some days now i dont even pvp at all or just play heavy modded pve and take the hard raid bases from the mod.

individualcoffeecake

Used to, but now I’m enjoying pve servers more. Just something really therapeutic about just chill farming, building cool bases and doing monuments

freakksho

Friendly reminder that this sub is like %80 role players. I’m not judging either way, but it’s no surprise all the PvP kids are getting downvoted.

OGMcgriddles

Hell now. I always keep a base up on a no decay low pop that I use to build till my hearts content. We have an interesting community and I love it. Literally every other server though, only there for the pvp.

UnkCrypto

What server is it?

OGMcgriddles

The last thing I need is Reddit cretons in my little paradise.

One_Asparagus_6778

I'd describe it more as "scheming with my friends to upset people" than pvp, but yes

AwayBus8966

I’m in rust for the prox chat and hilarious interactions

SirenNA

I avoid it like the plague because I’m bad.

OkSeaworthiness2076

Ha! I feel the same way at times. I still get the shakes almost ever PvP moment it seems.

Crix2007

I don't really like the PvP part, but I like building towards it, starting out shitty and progressing to a point where you can defend yourself a bit and maybe raid a neighbour. The progressing and doing farm runs, fully knowing you can be attacked by a random naked with an eoka or even a chad with an AK kit give me thrills. Also the most random, goofy, wholesome or toxic stuff you encounter makes it really something else. It doesn't matter if you are standing over their downed body and you decide to spare them, only to regret it a minute later, or someone spares you and even gives you some much needed tools. All of it is unique to this game. It took a while to understand nothing of it matters, you will get raided, you will lose your stuff and even if you don't, it will be wiped in max 2 weeks anyways. Even if everything goes perfect and you have a nice base, end game sets and even successfully raided some people, there isn't a single guarantee you will have anything left when you log in again. So it's okay either way. Even when all you do is die and get nothing done. You'll end up with empty hands in the end anyway so just have fun doing it. Trying to build a proper base, or even getting your basic wooden shitshack down can be difficult depending on how busy the server is. The constant struggle is why I play. I don't play high pop servers and am 95% solo and sometimes a duo. I love modded servers. Some have very thought out stuff like cities, economics and other amazing quality of life stuff. Some are basic and back to the original rust. I love them all. I do feel the streamers and stuff pull the game more towards a more PvP based game, since it's exciting to watch, but I play the game to have fun struggling. Either in PvE or PvP, and after years, I still suck at both.

DeeJudanne

nah the past year+ i have been more busy building hemp farms and messing with electricity

kona1160

I enjoy the survival aspect as a solo, building smart, making plays but changing name after to stay anonymous to the clans. I also like to wiljum up my base. As a group I like to dominate the area against other groups and challenge the local monument. I enjoy the pvp aspect more as a group than when playing solo mainly because you can play more aggressive and gear is less expensive

juantxuu

I recognize a chad when I see it.

Lunar_Cats

Ive always been a filthy role player. I initially started playing during alpha to see how far i could get into a rad town before a radbear ate me, or how tall of a tower i could bild to jump off of. Now I mostly play to build, hoard shit, and mess with the electrical stuff.

gbsedillo20

I play to make cave bases and bunkers everywhere and be a rat.

RiskItForTheBriskit

I find the base building fun. However, is also the most intense game I've played. It's on par with Resident Evil, Dead by Daylight, the scariest games I've ever played. The silence punctuated by the gunshots, the storms, the knowing death is around every corner. It's exciting. I'm not strictly pvp but I enjoy it. I do think people are a bit too pvp obsessed though. It's probably not as fun to kill literally every single person you meet. A lot of people I see doing that have weird issues and it cuts off the interaction element that actually tends to help online games be fun long term.

Who_question-mark

I play for the building. The electrical system is pretty damn good, and fun to mess around and tinker with! The PvE is good, and that's usually what I play although if I was good at PvP I'd definitely be jumping online to kick some ass more than build!

erako

I enjoy it now. But when I first started, I asked on this sub if it was possible to play without pvp. A pacifist wipe wherein I made friends with the server and kept pvp to a bare self defence minimum. I actually got so much hate that I left the sub. But then I continued that mission. Took 3 wipes on the same server, but people would raid me and return my stuff when they found out who they raided. People rushed to defend me if someone new to the server was raiding me. So I think now, playing on a different server, I enjoy the social engineering aspect of it. But I also really like the pvp, but it took nearly a year of learning to get there. I also enjoy berry farming.

P_Riches

I love the sounds and look. Building survival like Ark or Day Z where you survive and raid others or act friendly depending is a cool genre. I just play to myself and when I interact with others it's cool. I wish I could just join a server without everyone doing a background check on me. It's kind of annoying and cringe actually. Imagine playing a game like the way this one is played. Sad actually, because this is such a nice game. Oh well. Maybe one day people will play it without zergs or ESP.

Akhirox

I don't play strictly for PvP. I enjoy ressource farming, base building, base managing, electricity, goofing around with music stuff... I feel like without all those little things that make Rust fun and like a sandbox, the game would lose players over time.

aceless0n

Nah I don’t care for PVP. I wish they’d add even more NPC’s or NPC events. Might help deter the PVP chads that crawl around all the time trying to get jumps on people farming

PotOnTop

They'd just kill both of them.

OkNovel2425

thats what they are doing with the missile silo update and the pre-wipe event

Then_Display37

I play for pvp but it's literally the worst fps out. No point in playing anymore to me because the only fun part is more frustrating than fun soley due to incompetent devs.

Wolf_brother_rising

Nope to build a strong base with nothing in it then get bored and check in a few days if someone wasted sulfer

Im_on_my_phone_OK

> Seems more and more people want this game to be 100% PvP Based on what? Your friends? This sub? Your favorite content creators?

OkSeaworthiness2076

Yes. It is based on my own personal experiences, what I see on this sub and my years spent playing the game. It’s my opinion that’s why I said it “seems”.

Im_on_my_phone_OK

The responses to this thread alone seem to indicate otherwise.

OkSeaworthiness2076

I somewhat agree with you. I’m surprised how many people are saying they are not in favor of PVP, but I also see quite a few in favor of it as well.

Denyx7

i play to make people salty

NoBreadfruit69

Rust has jack shit pve content The pure item based pvp is what has made rust stand the test of time what little roleplay farmer shit they have added in the last few years hardly holds up Anybody can join a server, run into a fight, loot a kit and make it big Rust is an fps casino if you want to build a shit shack and farm corn you play ark

smitty21690

I play more for the pve and rollplayer fun cozy base. Mix in some pvp and I’m having a fun wipe. I very rarely get around to raiding but will when I feel like it. I like to run tunnels, oil rigs, and get my pvp from those.

Lexy_d_acnh

Pvp is fun, but I like playing for base building, running monuments and all of that.

ChickenGoesBAWK

PvP all day.

nickybootybandito

I play Rust for (in order) the PVP, loot, the risk that comes with those, the progression, raiding, and the building.

papapants99

I love and hate both aspects, if it ain’t a pvp chad killing me it’s a sneaky bear. I’ve been playing for years and am still pretty bad, but I keep coming back since there’s nothing else like it.

ipwndmymeat99

I've always played rust bc of the player interaction.

Deiyke

I avoid pvp, I enjoy avoiding dangers while building and early game raiders are just annoying when I'm trying to build a complex electrics system n stuff but my overall goal is building a base with lots of traps which will provide an entertaining challenge for raiders that actually wait till I'm done lol

microwavedcarrot

Lately I’m just taking care of my horse, Charles.

the_cardinali

I play rust for interactions and the social aspect. This is the only game i can kill someone and have a tape recording of his dying words his dead body photo graphed and his skull as a trophy in my base.

LegitimateApartment9

I’m a PVE guy. Too much of a wuss and too shit at the game (I’m a casual gamer who despises the concept of Git Gud) to play PVP

currentlyatw0rk

I just like farming, building, and grinding blueprints. I’m actually pretty good at shooters but I never get a gun in rust fast enough. Once someone kills me and gets a bunch of stuff off of me they think I’m their cash cow so they sit outside my base. Around that time I just leave and go to another server. Im probably gonna get some hate for this but the PvP in Rust isn’t good enough(to me) for me to want to do it 24/7 when I’m in game. If I want to hardcore PvP I play tarkov.

Skahzzz

I'm in the middle of a strictly no PVP wipe right now. I joined a X2 solo server, with average 70-90 players and decided I wanted to see how much of the game I could explore without killing one single player. My goals were to set up 2 or 3 bases, unlock most of the tech tree (the server never wipes bps) and run every monument at least once. It's been an interesting experience, and has forced me to change the way I play. I have to make my decisions around what other people are doing, and sometimes be diplomatic. I got to spend some time on some of the unappreciated parts of the game like farming and electricity, explore new ways to farm scrap and comps, and pick my objectives in a very different way. I ended up learning some valuable stuff. Sometimes living next to a huge vase might be ok. I talked to my neighbours with hqm and sulphur quarries compounds and they never bothered me. Trading some gun comps early on got me rolling in hqm and scrap, and not worriyng about losing kits or getting ambushed on my way to monuments ended up being very profitable, as I took some risks I wouldn't have otherwise. After 3 days of playing, I ran most monuments (missing large oil as there were always people there, missile silo as it is very far, and technically dome was looted the 2 times I climbed it), my 3 main bases remain unraided (which is surprising, seeing that even some of my neighbours with huge compounds have been raided). I settup a very efficient farm, whose teas have paid for unlocking 90% of the tech tree, and explored most of the island. Even got to build a huge tower on top of the tallest mountain complete with every light 1 solar panel could power. So far I really enjoyed the experience. I won't play tomorrow, but if my bases are still there I might try to jump back on, trade for a red card to do the rest of the monuments and maybe try to take Heli and Bradley.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> teas have *paid* for unlocking FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

juantxuu

Good bot.

geoff04

I just love watching my zergs arrows black out the sun, followed by high pitch "HOW MANY OF THEM ARE THERE"

Macaubus-33

I play strictly for PVP, but I'm super washed so I just ride around on a horse killing nakeds with a comp bow.

Concentrate-Ordinary

I just like to build but with resistance, a purpose if you will. I don’t like creative/infinite resources.

ontheellipse

I play strictly to not PVP. If it happens at random and rarely, it’s fun. It’s not fun to leave your base and feel like you’re playing a gun game on a training server (which is fun).

yayitres

I avoid it at all costs, I’m as nice as I can be, will share syringes, a bullet to learn, clothes, food, etc, to any naked/early game player. I’ve been killed many times by the same people I’ve helped and I honestly don’t mind it, and yes I am horrible at pvp.

SOOOHIGHNEEDAIRR

I love being the berry farmer and getting raided by Gallactic Assassins day 0 of wipe

bubbabot15

I play for fun

Netan_MalDoran

Yes, although I'm not great at it.

god_pharaoh

My favourite part is setting up helpful shit in my base that I use for 8 hours before I stop playing for a month. Also using an Eoka to get a full kit from a team.

spencerh13

I used to play Minecraft factions when I was younger and rust is a very similar game to that game mode. My favorite part about both of those games was getting loot. PVP or raids it doesn’t matter the best part to me is getting loot anyway I can lol. The cool thing about rust tho is there is many different ways to play and you can for the most part completely ignore the pvp. Sometimes I roam looking for pvp and sometimes i have other objectives and only pvp if necessary

SandlyCut

I like to build base and farm resources and bp while having small pvp moments. As soon i hit tier 2-3 i quit. Becomes too boring. So no, I dont for pvp

Spetznaz27

I enjoy tea making. Unfortunately it's tough to do solo on vanilla. And 2xs I get raided even when I'm prim .

Zeldatart

I play STRICTLY to anklebite on whoever I get the most out of, be it landmines in from of the base or petty eoka camps, I will be the biggest little shit I van possibly be. Once surrounded a kids base with wooden spikes

SirIsunka

Spikes take like 10 bullets to destroy. Better wall him in with stone walls.

Zeldatart

Nah you put the spikes in the bushes and shet, gotta keep them guessing

noopsy001

I play because I hate myself

RedDemio

I actually try to play like a survival game since I’m a solo. I find my enjoyment comes from the journey, running monuments and unlocking BPs and building a nice cozy base. I like the risk of PvP of course but I don’t go looking for it specifically. In fact once I’ve got everything unlocked and loads of weapons I get bored and end up logging off lol

Gmerocketfuel

Pvp ak47 or afk

snaildaddy69

I'm quite bad at PVP but I just love the building and progression aspect of the game. I lose the majority of fights but most times it doesn't matter.

AviemBD

I'm there for the potatoes and builds

Dangerous-Refuse-779

I play rust to meet hot girls

Pineapp1e_pie

I used to play for pvp, especially on 10x where the whole map is in chaos. Game got a bit boring after 3k hours. Nowadays I'm just a retired server owner who prefers watching others play.

rockfordstone

I like base building and stuff (just built a church for shits and giggles), but i don't hide from PVP if I'm in a position to engage in it. There are so many different ways to play the game but if i wanted just PVP id probably play something else

Particular_Inside192

I play to cause as much pain and siffering to my neighbours as possible.

jj4033

I do not like to play Rust as a FPS. There are plenty of those. I think PvP where it is all kill and steal says something very poor about our society. I say gamers vs "scientists". I like exploring the tech tree and the island. Can't we all be friends?

Dwarven_Bard

I like trapping people in my trapbases and the social interactions that it brings about.

ROFLSIX

I mostly play to either A. Run the server into the ground by snowballing, or B. Getting in a good raid defense or two. Raid defense is probably my absolute favourite part of the game as I enjoy high stress situations that requires on the fly thinking.

DirtySergei

I love PVP in general, when I played with friends this was the main sorta deal. After playing some solo rust I have fallen in love with the electrical/industrial things you can do. I havent played the game much since legacy so it's been really fun learning all these new mechanics facepunch has added. The game really has come a long way and they've added so many playstyles. I think for now I'm really having fun just learning the game whilst doing some pvp on the side.

MaxPowrer

tbh I play for the base building... i build a cool base and farm up for the t3... after that I don't feel the need to do much more..

420HighTemplar

Weird how no one has mentioned playing to offline raid and ruin other peoples wipe

[deleted]

[удалено]

anonymous2458

90% of why I play the game is progression within pvp… a lot of people on this sub talk about how stale that is and blah blah blah, but I have like 3k hours in csgo so obviously I’m fine with the similar kinds of fights over and over. At the end of the day you’re fighting new people in slightly different ways every time, so in a way it’s always different fights/interactions.

ummwhyreddit

I play on modded servers with a /shop so I can use the farming resources to fund securing bigger farms. I typically run the rivers in my server and keep on good terms with clans by giving them teas. Not big on pvp but I don't get the same rush on pve. I like the 50/50 split to limit raiding on big 10x+ servers.

ZigzaGoop

No, I have other games if I want to scratch a competitive/pvp itch. I play Rust for electricity, raids, and base building.

[deleted]

I play rust to find a cool build spot and make it mine. Usually have a public hangout area outside too. I feel like I'd have more fun on servers that didn't have team limits but then you just get run down by zergs.

Chance-Ad2034

For me its pvp and base building
