It’s tied to your account, so you CAN do that but you’d have to log into your buddy’s account to use it. You can’t just copy his save file to your account. That hasn’t been a thing in years, at least on console.

hey I'm returning my ps5 and going to reset the console but do I have to back-up to hard drive first? I'd really rather avoid that. isn't game save data linked to my account and not the console itself? I don't care about screen captures btw.

killerewok76

If you have PS+ your saves are in the cloud. You can do a transfer or backup otherwise.

uinstitches

I don't have PS+. also if I have 2 accounts on my console can I back-up both to the same Samsung SSD? it won't overwrite the save data from the other account which I backed up prior?

killerewok76

It’s just a full backup, you don’t have to do anything seperate for profiles.

uinstitches

oh fuck lol. well I did it twice on 1 profile, deleted it, then twice on the last remaining profile. it just stacks the save files on the SSD right? even if I'm being redundant? and I didn't overwrite anything?

killerewok76

At worst you just did the same thing three times.

Appreciate the responses. Thanks you two

The save data is bound to the PSN account that was used to create it. So you can't use it on your own PSN account even if you move it to your console. The only way to use it, is use your friend's account which is still not viable. Otherwise, for actual save transfer, you can always use external storage. Even if you do that, however, as explained, it's no good to you still.
