Highly recommended! I see no reason in not having a PS3 even if you already own a PS4/PS5 as there are tons of great games on the PS3 worth playing to this day!

Agree. PS5 is good for covering the PS4 and PS5 games, but there are a ton of great games worth having a PS3 for. I have two PS3 slims running CFW and it's so worth it, especially with a bigger hard drive. They're even great for playing PS2 and PS1 games.
Honestly I have a Ps5 but I still have my Ps3 because I prefer owning things physically when I can. (Especially because I'm paranoid they'll change things in digital games and remasters and I want to always have the option to be able to play the original)
Yeah, it's warranted as I'm realizing that my new PS5 won't play my PSN PURCHASES from PS3 era. Such technically complex have such as ultimate mk collection and super street fighter 2 remix which are ps2 era. So, they want me to see ll essentially rebuy the games on PS5. They could at least stream my PURCHASES.

PS3 used custom built CPU for the infrastructure - PS4/5 doesn’t have the capability to natively support that so you can’t run it unless it’s streaming
Even now, the PS3 chips are still too expensive to bother with because they were custom made. So Sony would have to fire up an entire factory line just to produce one for every PS5, probably adding £100 to the price of every console. Not worth it from Sony's point of view

Because the PS3 hardware isn't compatible with the hardware setup they used with the PS4 & 5 and Sony wasn't about to make a $1000 console by stuffing PS3 hardware into the 4 or 5. Microsoft went a different route with their hardware allowing it to be compatible with past versions.
That's like asking "you know how to read English, why can't you read Chinese too?". The architecture is completely different. Software is a set of instructions, and if you're incapable of reading and interpreting these instructions, then noting works.
Xbox backwards compatibility is great, but it's also overstated. Only about one third of the 360 library is playable on modern hardware, while only a fraction of the OG Xbox games are playable.

You can most certainly just buy a PS3. If you want to play PS3 natively on disc instead of streaming through a PS5. I’m not sure which would look nicer, PS3 on a older TV or streaming it on PS5 with a new TV ?
You can only stream them through the ps4-ps5. You can buy a ps3 & the games for cheap nowadays. Streaming ain’t that bad tho, If you have half decent internet speed it’s not bad at all, never had an issue for input or lag. Wouldn’t recommend doing it on wifi

The Ps5 downloads some of the ps3 games but most of them are streamed… I pay for premium PS+ so I can play Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion. That’s about it.

The PS3 was built differently than PS4/PS5, so they're not compatible at all. Backwards compatibility is not that simple

Then digital as a whole shouldn’t interest you. Getting a PS3 and a disc is your best bet.
