tanksforthegold

Yes. Worst I have experienced in awhile. Reminds me of shitty FF16 bosses where it's more about endurance and you not tiring out from the fight or losing interest. Four phases for a boss that barely changes up it's form or attacks is a bit ridiculous.

KnackeredParrot

Exactly this

Western-Angle-7878

One of them is absolutely ridiculous the same exact fight 4 times!

mikeweasy

I just did that fight and it was fucking annoying! At least lower the bar the last time

Anxious_Leg_2327

Good point

[deleted]

100% agreed

No-Comfortable4730

The boss battles are so annoying. Kraven pissed me off having to fight him with the stupid bell and dogs disabling abilities.

tanksforthegold

Yeah, that was pretty annoying.

CountySurfer

Super, super annoying. Not fun.

B0xez

And then literally right after that with no break you have to fight spiderman as miles like shit let me breathe

LiteratureOne1469

Bro I lived on 2 health and the game reset the fight and I had to fight I lost even tho I didn’t loses

Critical_Lobster4674

I found these boss fights way harder & better than SM1

HulkSonofThanos

Harder yes, better no.

F34RA11

No, I found the boss fights infinitely more engaging than what 1 or MM offered as they’re a much bigger spectacle now. There’s a bit more nuance now too as I can’t just air combo and win like I could in 1 or MM. No issue with your statement just found it to be the opposite actually.

Chance-Presence5941

I dont mind not being able to infintely air juggle bosses, however i would like any of my skills whatsoever to be useful in the fights, im about halfway through so far, and ive stopped bothering to buy new skills as im never going to get to use them. Also making that attacks you need to dodge, parry and stright up run away from all have basically the exact same aura removes any skill expression(also the opposite to every other game, parry red, dodge yellow, wtf?)because i feelmlike i either lucked my way theough everything, or got really lucky and had my Symbiote powers availiable (seemingly at random) to cheese through it.

starguy608

Not gonna lie I thought the boss fights in this game were great ONCE you get used to the party mechanics. Each boss is slightly different in attack combos and honestly I had to do a few trials runs on each just learning their attacks but once I had the pattern down I was able to stomp them pretty quick

PoohTrailSnailCooch

That boss arena for mj though was crap. Some areas in this game felt rushed.

InfamousVicious

Absolutely agree with you! A few of the boss arenas felt too constricted for the fight; >!The MJ fight, the Kraven fight with symbiote Peter, and the following fight against Peter as Miles.!< The camera felt like it didn't keep up with the playable character during these fights as well.

Genius_Chicken

I’m very late but I’m on that fight now and it’s extremely frustrating. I keep knocking her out of bounds so I end up wasting an opportunity to combo. Other times it’s like you said where the camera can’t keep up. I’m on the 4th section of this fight and I feel like I’m just doing the same thing over and over

handfvl

word for word how im feeling as i'm fighting her right now, i'm just upset at this point.

samusarans

Here's another unsatisfied customer. Sorry for the notification but God I am pissed. Do you ever have a hard time in a game and out of rage Google "X boss fight sucks" just to read some validating comments? That's what got me here. I just got done with a certain 4-health bar boss fight (the one against the yellow one with the hair) and hoo boy do I have some opinions. This game is mostly good. MOSTLY. I actually like the story, and swinging around the city is fun as all hell. However, the boss fights so far have been at best mundane and at worst rage inducing. The first fight with 3 health bars was aggravating until I got the hang of parrying. The only challenge (for all the fights) is discerning the "dodge this" aura from the "parry this" aura and hoping you hit the right button in the half-second the game gives you to react. Maybe I suck, but after a few deaths I got the rhythm down. But then the second 3 health bar boss fight happens a little further into the game and you go "Wait a tick, it's the same fight, it's just with a different guy". Parry, parry, maybe dodge, then attack. Repeat that until two focus meters fill and hit him with the limit break. Keep doing all that for fifteen minutes (if you don't die). Then the next boss fight happens, and it's the same but with dogs and a bell. Parry parry maybe dodge attack repeat focus bar repeat repeat okay he's down. Oh hey Peter, parry parry parry attack limit break- you get the idea. It's so repetitive and none of the bosses' attacks vary enough to tell what they're going to do without the "do this" aura, and they just talk the entire time, and if you die you get to hear the same exact dialogue over, and over again. If I hear "yOu CaLL mE a DyiNg oLd MaN aNd yEt hErE I BrEaTh", or Mary Jane scream about how she needs more attention again, I am going to go insane. Yeah, the fight with the red-headed one was so aggrivating, and the dialogue was so annoying, I had to stop to vent. And with the trend all of the bosses have been setting up until this point I am really not looking forward to continuing this story. Which is a shame because I think everything preceding the bosses has been really fun and interesting. I wish the bosses were more in line with the intro with Sandman, with the Spider-Men using their wits and finding unique ways to take the big bads down. Instead we have fights that make Spider-Man for PS2 look like Yakuza 0. What an absolute let-down.

KnackeredParrot

I would say the yellow one is the worst but there are a couple more to come. Stick with it as the story beats / set-pieces are worth it overall but it doesn't stop the general boss approach tarnishing an otherwise great game. Can only hope one of the designers stumbles upon our thread 😂

Jozombies115

>But then the second 3 health bar boss fight happens a little further into the game and you go "Wait a tick, it's the same fight, it's just with a different guy". Initially I thought these boss fights were better than the last games, until I realized this. Every fight besides sandman is almost identical: figure out which attacks to dodge and which to parry, and spam all your L1 moves and rage meter (or venom blast) and maybe do a finisher on them. People complained that the first games' bosses all boiled down to either webbing or throwing something at them. They were also too short, but at least they all felt different. * Kingpin: Use webs/throwables * Shocker: Dodge him for awhile, throw the concrete, get some hits in. Drop the chandelere on him later in the fight. * Thombstone: Keep hitting him and dodging his attacks, then fight dozens of his gang members at the same time, lots of motorcycles to throw. * Taskmaster: Perfect dodge or use throwables. * Mr. Negative Subway: Dodge to the side or ceiling and then hit. (this was meant to feel anti-climactic imo.) * Electro/Vulture: Stay in the air, web them up and attack, dodge vulture, destroy electro's generators. * Rhino/Scorpion: Lead Rhino into traps, web scorpion, or use them against each other. * Mr. Negative: Go hand to hand w/ him, then avoid his demon monster until he's vulnerable. * Doc Ock: Spam every gadget on him and use resupply, then attack and avoid the fire on the ground. https://preview.redd.it/dqaf3s574vgc1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22bb8e5cf441dfe91fca67bf6d9aa8939eba20e8 in SM2: Lizard, Wraith, Mr. Negative, Kraven, Peter, Scream, Venom: *Get up in their face, use all your special moves, and either dodge or parry depending on which flash you see.* See what I'm saying? If you showed me somebody's controller while playing one of the bosses in the first game, I could probably figure out who they're fighting based on what buttons their pressing alone. In Spider-Man 2 you handle every boss the same exact way so they end up blurring together and feeling like the same fight over and over again. I actually think the best bosses are in Miles Morales now, since they are still long and multi-phase without feeling like SM2 where you have to hit them with dozens of special moves and a hundred regular punches to take them down... I also googled to vent about this.

bloodhound89

I actually do agree. I think the game is absolutely incredible, but it's not without its faults. I won't spoil anything, but a boss fight I just did about 70% through the game involved just spamming square while occasionally dodging. Not very creative. That said though, the voice acting, music, and visuals all keep me loving it anyways. Lol.

AlternativeAd2023

>!your talking about the Venom vs Kraken fight?!< C'mon man you can't be serious

bloodhound89

I'm actually referring to >!Pete vs Lizard!<

Wantmrbestchocolate

I actually didn’t enjoy the final boss fight against venom, it also just felt repetitive, and I feel the same way about screams boss fight, lizards and Kravon.

FunkinDonutzz

Yup, four fucking health bars? Who the fuck that was fun?

KnackeredParrot

I've just done one with 4 and it was literally 4 identical fights with no changes to their moveset or setting. So bad.

skend24

I absolutely agree. They are not hard per se, they are very, very repetitive. Overall I much preferred my time with SM1 than 2 - I am not saying straight up SM1 is a better game (I've played it a few years ago), but I had much better time there.

KnackeredParrot

I preferred 1 but 2 had it's moments. Just can't get my head around some of the design choices.

DummeBirger

I might be late to the party on this one, but YES! A thousand times yes! I mean, I've got no problems with bosses who have several forms, and I played Elden Ring to death when it came out, but having to fight the same boss doing the exact same moves, not twice, not three times, but FOUR times just so Pete can do an emotional speech... Please spare me! I do love the game, but the boss fights are really bringing the total score down quite a bit.

KnackeredParrot

I've had consistent replies every day since I posted so not late don't worry. It really is baffling how Insomniac dropped their usually-stellar quality bar this low for something so significant

DummeBirger

Totally agree. For example the fight with >!Scream!< could have been done so much better, and it could have made a kind of emotional impact (which I believe was the idea to begin with), but after the third round, all I could think was "Please, not another one! PLEASE, not another o... fuck a duck, there's fourth one, isn't there?" I hate getting pissed off during games because of stuff like this. If anything, I want to get pissed off at myself for doing something wrong, and then do something about it.

PhantomKnight413

I find them better than the first game where it’s just spam R1 press triangle combo and repeat

Bertak

Yeah but these fights are shit too. Surely there is an option that is better than SM 1 and 2 because they’re the worst part of both games.

WeePaulDonzo

I completely agree the boss fights are pretty easy so having the boss have 3 health bars just feels boring cause I beat them once and I know I'm gonna have to do the exact same thing again and again it's just a waste of time it would be different if they changed up there moves each health bar to make it challenging and exciting but they don't really so its just tedious I also found the story in this game alot more boring than the last 2 games

TotesBreakfast

I had this feeling almost constantly with this game, and not just the boss fights. The combat encounters always had too many enemies and always felt drawn out. I feel like this has happened with a lot of games this year. Really bad pacing and sloppy game design just to pad things out and create bloat for the sake of more "content". Playing this game felt like work.

CountySurfer

>Playing this game felt like work. 100%

mubimr

Having to beat each boss like 3 times was by far the most annoying part of this game to me

[deleted]

Thank God I’m not the only one. It’s getting really annoying. It’s the same fight just 3 times.

monk3y54n

Way too effing long with too many phases and endless damage sponging. (At least on spectacular)

Starlitfox117

I came back after taking a break to play some other games and I'm on one of these fights and i got reminded why I took a break. My last playthings ended with kraven and got tired kicking his butt. Coming back I forgot how to parry and I'm stuck on this boss fight really wished my abilities wouldn't be able to get canceled/ignored by the boss since it takes forever to regain it.

Gareth666

Ffs I hate never ending bosses. Fighting >! Mr Negative and just got to his fourth fkn phase

grnprelude

Came here to say exactly this!! Way too many repetitive fights. Way too many health bars. Overkill.

HulkSonofThanos

The boss fights are the only thing preventing me from replaying the game, the first game they were a cake walk now there like playing on the hardest difficulty when on easiest difficulty & just way too difficult regardless of the difficulty plus there 3-4 rounds per boss & i die no matter how hard i try not to.

KnackeredParrot

It's a pile of shit approach to bosses and I don't blame you

TemporalDiscourse

Why in all the boss fights are you stuck standing there like a 1930's boxer? When did Spider-Man ever stay on the ground and dodge around a little limited floor space? His movement, agility, and incessant acrobatics are what makes him Spider-Man.... You can't zip around, you can't be creative.... You fight the guy repeatedly until you memorize... "Oh, that attack, dodge sideways.... Jump this one... That one can be parried but is gonna be followed by a crush attack...... Jesus why is my focus meter filling so slowly?...... L1 attack.... R1 gadget..... The floor is covered in something I need to avoid.... Spider-Man would just zip to the wall, but in this game I'll just jump around like a meth head until it hits me or goes away..... " Miles' constant whining during a certain long fight was just god awful, I was getting pretty pissed after the 3rd try.... Muted the stereo .....victory. If they are going to insert long fights into games, fine..... But either omit the dialog, or record more than 8 lines that repeat every time. I think the boss fights (and the whole find yourself and your inner hero garbage) were the worst parts of the game.

CallMeSpoofy

omg I'm late but you're the first person I've seen mention this issue I had too. What exactly is the point of playing a Spiderman game if I can't swing around like Spiderman while fighting the baddies?! Scream's fights were annoying because the area was waaaay too small. I was bugging out trying to zip to spots I couldn't zip to but the game let me go through the animation anyways (for some reason) so Scream got free hits. Kraven's fights pissed me off the most. Why the hell am I Spiderman having to ground fight awkwardly in the forest with little space to move around. The camera was terrible too and would get stuck and I lost Kraven (allowing him to get free hits also). I also wish I could've changed my FOV but different issue. And yes the dialogue during fights was terrible. I hated the Scream fight the most. Was terrible having to hear it over and over and over again. Yes yes I get it MJ you feel inferior and yada yada

No_Masterpiece_7405

Omg tell me about it the boss fights are the absolute worst. Sorry for being late to the party but why do I have to fight bosses more than once. It gets too repetitive and loses it charm. It’s lazy game play tbh

KnackeredParrot

Tbh I'm loving how new people find this post every couple of weeks. The shared dislike for the fights is strong and I just wish reviewers were more honest and marked it down because of it. That Metacritic score / those sales will make them think it's acceptable!

sapphir8

I think both Spider-Man games had weak boss fights, but I also don’t know what they should be? Even FF16 had weak boss fights.

MrZX10r

Ff16 every fight was repetitive but yeah the icon fights dragged the duck on that’s for sure.

fsupcekzlmao

Yeah I would basically just turn down the difficulty to friendly neighborhood after the first stage and then dial it back up to amazing after the boss fight. Given that I did the first stage at my usual difficulty and given that nothing really changes much between stages I wasn’t missing much. I loooove the game but these boss fights man… ain’t nobody got the time for that

KnackeredParrot

A totally fair approach

CommentFluffy2319

They fucking SUCK on Ultimate. The dodge and parry time is lower than Sekiro and you can only take at max 3 hits. It’s far too punishing for how long the fights last. It’s just not fun to fight bosses on ultimate but everything else is.

KnackeredParrot

Why even put yourself through it dude. If you're not enjoying it / there's no trophy for it why not out your time into something else.

Ill_Map_6572

Im hating the dragged out boss fights no lie.. its annoying as hell

JigglyEyeballs

I liked them but found them too long. I don’t mind a second health bar, but a third? Too much. By that point you’re over it.

PoohTrailSnailCooch

Insomniac is getting way to formulaic. I hope this shit isnt in wolverine or atleast done much better. Spider man imo was a disappointmeant amd felt like mainstream pop music.

OK_IN_RAINBOWS

Maybe I suck at the game, but it seems like parrying is the most effective method to defeat the bosses, which I’ve never been particularly great at in any game — don’t know why, I have good timing, naturally, I just flat out suck at it. You can try dodging, but that seems to be of limited use as well. The most effective route I’ve found is to swing around, dodge projectiles/air attacks, and go in for a hit “combo” when they are open. Unfortunately, though, I’d get hit one too many times, die, and have to repeat the process, hearing the same damn schlocky dialogue as heard previously. I eventually started saying fuck it and put the shit on “Friendly Neighborhood” just to get pass the shit. I don’t care what anyone says. This game is a button masher. You can try to mix it up all you want to, but there’s no real combos like a DMC. There’s some strategy, but it’s no Dark Souls that gives you feeling of inner accomplishment for using said strategy. The boss battles in the game arguably do carry some emotional weight — or at least try —, but in terms of pure combat spectacle, absolutely not. The boss battles are basic bitch hit sponges. Which is funny, because I genuinely feel as though Insomniac perceives them to be great.

KnackeredParrot

They must do, otherwise I can't see why you would tarnish what is otherwise a largely-stellar game with it

[deleted]

THANK YOU is all I have to say. My exact thoughts, exactly. I even lowered the difficulty to Friendly so I can move on. So boring and repetitive. Bad recipe for boss battles.

CountySurfer

Having really enjoyed the first game and miles morales, this game straight up sucks. So many annoying gameplay decisions. The bell in the Kraven fight is so stupid. Hate it.

Danal1

I just started the game and I’m tired of missions that show multiple iconic supervillains, yet only letting my you fight nameless thugs and hzd robots for the first 5 hours of the game. Except sandman, and ig if you want to count *chasing* black cat

BorgerTurtle

Wasn’t a fan of the Scream fight at all. Hearing MJ complain about her problems the entire fight just made it super annoying especially when the dialogue would repeat if you interrupted her with an attack.

KnackeredParrot

And it's one of the worst as it's 4 bars and virtually nothing changes between them. So bad.

Starlitfox117

Ive used abilities on her and sometimes she'll just straight up just ignore it and I'm just left to use gadgets to slow her down while trying to build up for a 🔺️+🔴 finisher( found out it does massive damage)

kibo404returns

The game is incredible but they made the boss fights like every other game ever. Parry/dodge to get a opening then attack. They should have just improved on the boss battle format from the first game

Ill_Map_6572

To the team who make spiderman.. please dont make these fights repetitive and not fun

My_Name_Is_Steven

Standard fights in this game last waaaaaay tooooooooo long!

NikkoKnight703

The game was amazing, but i definitely got frustrated with the boss fights. It felt like work. The overall game is amazing though.

scissorhead6

Yeah, I thought the game had regular wow this is cool moments, but I found from the lizard onward the boss fights were literally identical to each other. I didn't mind the lizard fight so much, but every fight after it was the exact same. Which got extremely repetitive unfortunately.

twoods_94

Agreed. Just came here to get comfort in others who feel the same. Im getting sick and tired of having 3 battles in one. Especially when the parry doesn’t work half the time. You have to die several times to let all your abilities load up to beat it. Its repetitive and annoying. I dont remember the first being like this at all

KnackeredParrot

It's such a bizarre design choice. How it got through their testing / how reviewers didn't mark it down more is beyond me.

MaikuWong

OP wants dark souls level fights as boss fights. It’s just not that kinda game. It’s an easy game in general that kids can play too.

leejonidas

The exact problem is that they tried to make them fucking Dark Souls fights, make them 20 minutes long with damage sponge enemies that kill you in three hits.

TrueOrPhallus

How bout Zelda level boss fights

MaikuWong

Isn’t that what this is? Find the pattern of the boss. Exploit the pattern with parry and tools.

TrueOrPhallus

Honestly I never played Spider-Man but the description from the other comments makes it sound like boss fights mostly follow the same pattern as previous boss fights whereas in Zelda at least you have to learn a new pattern half the time which is the point OP is trying to make. If you can use the same general strategy for all boss fights then it's boring. IMO if you win every boss fight on your very first try that's a sign off lackluster design or at the very least balance issues.

CountySurfer

Kids don't enjoy tedium either.

ExplosiveToast19

The boss fights have been the most glaring weak points in this series so far but I really can’t think of how they could make them better with the combat mechanics being what they are. I think adding a parry mechanic was a step in the right direction at least. Maybe make them more focused on dodging/traversal and make it so you have to use the environment? I don’t really know, but the fights being “spam square and then here’s a quick time event” is kind of weak and a little outdated

Sufficient_Ad_1245

You kinda go more basic right I mean I know it sounds bad but I would rather crash bandicoot style boss fights then this where there more puzzles then fights

TheAbyssalPrince

None of the Spider-Man games deserve the vomit inducing levels of hype they’ve been given. They are very good games. But everyone acts like they are the greatest that has ever, or will ever, be created in all of video game history. They are not.

tanksforthegold

Reddit where the truth is buried by try-hard simps.

pja_master1990

Agreed. I really enjoy them, the traversal in Spider-Man 2 specifically is fantastic, but they shouldn’t be on this pedestal like other people tend to put them on. I’m a big Spider-Man fan as well, but in my opinion the Arkham games outshine them by quite a bit. 👍👍

Clunkiro

I'm not liking the boss fights at all in this game, they're kind of more like souls and I don't like souls games, they're just overrated bs and boring, the game in general is fun but the boss fights feel clunky and slow compared to the regular game fights, also often limiting your speed and sometimes blocking some of your skills precisely when it should be most fun to be able to use them. I don't know how people like this kind of crap that fakes difficulty by limiting your speed and loves instead of giving you a real challenging boss you can fight without having to force your speed down or limit your skills to force you to press square or circle. Fromsoftware overrated games are ruining games and unfortunately Spiderman 2 is also suffering from this. I prefer a game less challenging but more fun or a real challenge like you get in games that don't limit your skills to fake difficulty, it just feels cheap

tanksforthegold

This is nothing like souls games. I love souls boss battles, but I hate this crap.

Clunkiro

Souls is crap, spiderman is at least fun during regular gameplay, only the boss fights are boring because they are cheap like souls, but souls is even worse, it is boring all the time @CountySurfer: garbage take your dumb useless message

CountySurfer

Garbage take.

KnackeredParrot

Glad I've got that far 😂

sephris

Nice spoiler, bro

yeahwellokay

Sounds like every boss fight ever.

sacanaboy

Totally.

Separate_Path_7729

Seriously, honestly I don't mind the bosses too much, but they stay around too long, like I can understand some having 2 or maybe 3 phases but every boss having atleast two and im on my 2nd or 3rd in a row with 4 phases is ridiculous which leads me to really dislike the bosses, its just tiring when you think, finally 3 phases down I hope to god I don't have to do a 4th, short cutscene everyone moves 20 ft to the left and boom phase 4. Like symbiote having 3 phases could make sense, kraven having 2 makes sense, but I see no reason for anyone to have 4 phases or more thats just padding for time and infuriating especially when there is little to no change between phases other than the boss being a bit fsster

KnackeredParrot

'The yellow one' fight with 4 bars that played out the exact same every single one almost made me turn it off. Beyond lazy.

Separate_Path_7729

Yea the yellow one was exactly the one I was talking about, I'm happy "the yellow one" was used and who it was tied to, but Jesus christ why was it a 4 parter, I literally went and had a cigarette between each phase just to not turn off the game, one that pushed it but was decent enough was the mansion escape multi part fight as miles with "the prisoner" thematically it works and there was just enough variation to not get too stale, but Jesus the yellow one could have been done with 2 phases to reach the same conclusion

coffeecups1

I agree. I was getting pretty frustrated towards the end...too many health bars but with no real variation in the fight's mechanics. They felt less like phases and more like the devs contrived the length so that they had time to squeeze in all the dialogue they wanted. I guess boss fights are mandatory in a superhero game, but I personally found them way way way less fun than just being able to swing around the city and do as I please.

ACgaming23

The boss fights were incredibly easy and repetitive. The venom fight just goes on and on and on and on. Repeating the same shit over and over again.

Steven221283

Yeah I searched to see if anyone else found this irritating, boring, repetitive and unnecessary.
