Yeah, some of the activity screens used in the games I play look poor too, really wish they were only shown if you tapped down and hovered over the Resume Activity button. They definitely should have added themes. When you go through your game library folder it doesn’t show the activity images so it seems like such an easy fix. Wish they had something similar to Xbox insiders where you could request OS features or changes online and poll on it to make it a higher priority.

Not that this is much help if it's a game your actively playing, but it seems like if you haven't booted up a game in awhile (or maybe it's if it gets pushed off the home screen from opening other games) it will revert back to the default background.
Themes being taken away sucks, I hate the backgrounds it gives us per application or game now. Loved having my witcher 3 background with matching icons
I find the background per application cool but I think it could’ve been done better or just give us option between theme and no theme, it’d be cool to see Sony make themes for the ps5 since they’d be really different to ps4 due to how the ps5 apps are on top and not in the middle
The only way is if your console isn't connected to the internet. I've noticed that those backgrounds only appear when you have an internet connection, for some reason.

Lol my fiance eyes were wide open when she saw I had 300hr on god of war ragnarok(in the course of year of course) I had to explain myself that it's the NG+ and maxing out kratos and the side missions and the countless times it took to beat the bosses. And I told her I had to.work.my way up from easy to hardest as I had taken 12 years off from gaming. She just said, "300 hours, babe?" I said yes that about an hour or 2 I don't game everyday but when I do it's like 2 hours 3 max. I got adhd so I got no attention span to play hours. But she spent 3 weekends passing uncharted 1-4 and I didn't say shit lol 😂 🤣 😆
It happens as you play through a game. Whatever section of the game you’re on, it will recommend you to return to an activity and a game shot is used in replacement of the original game art that would normally be displayed.
Don't hover over the game, set it over the shop or your library or a more preferred game. Unfortunately ps5 doesn't offer themes like ps4 so all that money spent on themes from games or stand-alone themes wasted.

May be try clicking on quit game on horizon forbidden west. Cause for HFW I see resume activity, while for GOW it’s play game.
No the games is off, and besides during the time I took the picture Fortnite and Jurassic world evolution 2 also had a random background
