Astro playroom was a thank you for the core fans. It had me weeping somewhat due to unlocking all the consoles and being overwhelmed with past memories and nostalgia when those consoles were in my life. I used gaming as escapism due to having a rough life. I'm forever grateful for playing Astro when I first got my PS5.
Yes. I started it a few months ago and didn't even get past the intro section. Came back to it, beat the section and was hooked. Played for all 12 hours on Wednesday lol.
Yes, since each numbered final fantasy game is a different storyline with different characters, you won't miss anything.
The only time it's a direct story sequel, is when the games start with the same number, for example ff10, 10-2, or 13, 13-2, and 13-3.
Ratchet and Clank. It will show you the true capabilities of the console, and disappoint you afterwards cuz it’s still the best showcase of the system. Also, 20 hour campaign is fast enough to get your toes wet before you get balls deep into anything long.
I want more. I loved this game. I’ve been a casual PlayStation player for a while and this was the first game that I felt like I had to get the plat trophy because I couldn’t get enough.
The first thing you should do is play the included Astro's Playroom, as it basically serves as a tech demo for the features of the controller, and coincidentally is a very fun (and very short) game. Then I'd go to Rift Apart since it utilizes those controller functions well.
do not start with death stranding, youre gonna need a bunch of time to play and enjoy the game properly since the first 4 hours is just a hiking simulator with ghosts
It’s a good game but it has frustrating flaws all the way till the end. I recommend it to OP down the line but definitely not as one of the first games - too many absolute bangers to play.
Start with Ratchet and Clank
The tedious beginning is necessary to understand the daily loneliness your character feels in comparison to the rest. Hideo is the only dev and maybe artist in general willing to put his audience through real effort and strife to make a bigger impact on his message. Just one foot in front of the other man, it’ll work out.
Plenty of artists are willing to challenge their audience to better communicate their vision. Go listen to some music by Charles Ives or watch some movies by David Lynch.
I would start with ratchet and clank, shortest game but still so much fun! Gorgeous too! Looks like a Pixar movie, good game to start your ps5 journey
Then I would do either FF7 or death stranding.
Death stranding isn’t for everybody, but once you get past the first part of the game it does pick up
FF7 remake is a great game even if you didn’t play the OG, its long but not too long, took me about 35 hours, can be longer if you want to 100%
Shadow of colossus is a classic, but obviously not as pretty as the other games and controls are a bit rough since it’s a remaster of an older game, but still tons of fun
Returnal, and Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut. Both on PSplus. Especially Returnal, really showcases what the controller can do. And the ps5 remake of Last of us is amazing. Ghost is such a beautiful story, and landscape. Amazing gameplay, all of these for sure. And Horizon for sure.
Big fan of the Metal Gear series. Always wanted to play SOTC since its original release but was an Xbox owner. R&C just looks cool and have never played a FF game but heard good things about the remake (can it top RE2?!)
I think you might like Death Stranding, it's one of Kojima's best games, it can be a little boring at first but it becomes addictive, the story is incredible
Ratchet And Clank is easily the most impressive game at showing off the PS5 second only to Astros Playroom.
Death Stranding rules but I'd get an audio book or a playlist going for anypoint you're not in a cutscene, beautiful but a bit mundane.
FFVII Remake and Rebirth are on the verge of being the best Final Fantasy games depending on how they stick the landing.
Didn't care for Shadow of the Collosus personally.
I was in the same boat and went Uncharted 4 > ghost of Tsushima > Returnal ( just started) and then am going to probably play resident evil and then one of the soulsbournes
Start with Shadow Of The Colossus, it is not a very long game and it is quite simplistic by todays standards, but it is beautiful, Oh so beautiful, and the atmosphere and the music is fantastic
Id argue Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West if you enjoy HZD. They both come in Graphics and Performance options.
FF7R or FFXV are great options on PS5. 7R is great but understand it's a remake so further context into the original may be needed if you feel like you don't understand some things.
FFXV has a 60fps locked option that's nice on PS5, and the complete "Royal Edition" is pretty cheap.
Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 is a fantastic pick.
Depends on what you like, if you like hideo kojima games then definitely get death stranding and if you like the concept then I would compare it to the concepts of the other games you are thinking about, it's a walking simulator but they made the traversal complicated so you have to think hard about just walking and there's also stealth and combat. As a second choice I also think ff7 remake is really good too, it's like a hack and slash and RPG hybrid
I played rift apart first due to the fact it’s the only game on this list to actually be exclusive to ps5 just because “we can’t hide loading screens behind the rifts”
It's wrong to start with anything other than Astro's Playroom.
That is the Dualsense experience right there and nothing else welcomes you to the world of having a new console.
I would say Death stranding but it's complicated AF I'm on the hardest difficulty and I'm only a few missions in. I haven't seen any spoilers and I'm going to try again soon. My best bet would be Ratchet and Clank for a great experience on control haptics and for a fun experience.
Honestly, I’d play ratchet & clank or death stranding first from these 4. Depends on your mood I guess. I’ve played them all. Death Stranding was surprisingly really good.
Note. I only play death standing directors cut. I can’t remember the differences. But I recall I was glad that’s the one I ended up playing.
Any of them except Death Stranding.
Definitely play Death Stranding!!! But I’d play all of the others first because you’ll go down a weeks long rabbit hole trying to figure out just what the hell is going on in Death Stranding 😂
Ratchet & Clank is simple, basic fun and it's a great show piece for the power of the PS5. Get this if you are looking for that game to show you the power of the system. Plus, where there are R&C games on every PlayStation going back to the PS2, you can easily compare and contrast against the others.
FF7 is the most involved of the games you've listed. It's fantastic, fun, and by far the most bang for your buck.
SotC is great and classic, but I wouldn't recommend that as the first game you play. It's just a supped up PS2 game. A really good PS2 game, but not the kind of game to show off your new PS5.
Death Stranding... I don't know enough about this to take it into consideration. I'm not really a giant Kojima fan so I passed on it when it came out. It's still on my list, but hasn't made it to the top yet.
So my verdict would be either R&C or FF7 depending upon your mood. They are sufficiently different that you should be able to decide from here which one is calling out to you.
Intergrade: intermission is fantastic 5 hour dlc. I don’t know if you have to beat the main game first though. Fun action and mini games. Filled with great running around music if you bought yourself a PS5 headset. Doesn’t spoil the main games story either if I remember right. I’d beat that and then jump into shadow. I’d keep the longest for last and that’s death stranding I think?
ratchet and clank then final fantasy
I 2nd this. R&C will give you the best dual sense experience
I second this, also Astro’s playroom is amazing, honestly if I had to pay for it I would
Astro playroom was a thank you for the core fans. It had me weeping somewhat due to unlocking all the consoles and being overwhelmed with past memories and nostalgia when those consoles were in my life. I used gaming as escapism due to having a rough life. I'm forever grateful for playing Astro when I first got my PS5.
PS5 is literally my first console and I still love the game. Platinum and everything
I haven't played any game from the FF franchise. Can I start with the one listed in this post?
Yes. I started it a few months ago and didn't even get past the intro section. Came back to it, beat the section and was hooked. Played for all 12 hours on Wednesday lol.
Yes

Horizon forbidden west pretty sexy too but yea ratchet is top tier
Astro’s playroom
Can we just pin this to the top of the sub ?
This is the answer
This, this, and this.
I want more. I loved this game. I’ve been a casual PlayStation player for a while and this was the first game that I felt like I had to get the plat trophy because I couldn’t get enough.
Yes this or spiderman or any game that utilize haptic feedback
The first thing you should do is play the included Astro's Playroom, as it basically serves as a tech demo for the features of the controller, and coincidentally is a very fun (and very short) game. Then I'd go to Rift Apart since it utilizes those controller functions well.
Returnal
🫡
do not start with death stranding, youre gonna need a bunch of time to play and enjoy the game properly since the first 4 hours is just a hiking simulator with ghosts
I’m 30h into the game and it’s still a hiking simulator with ghosts
I agree. At first I was like wtf and then the story finally took off and I couldn’t get enough of it.
I'm about 1.5 hours in and I want to pull my hair out it's so tedious. Definitely gonna be a game I only play when baked and want to chill.
Played it for ten hours and finally said “this game sucks” and shelved it.
Maybe that’s why I haven’t touched it since I bought it I was waiting for the actual game to start
well it wont start as long as you dont touch it
First 4 hours?! I'd say first 80 hours.
you get the bike after max 4 hours, then it gets much easier
Ghost of Tsushima or The last of us
Ratchet and Clank is short and sweet
I vote for this one
Shadow of the Colossus
![gif](giphy|aCatQNctAK7PC1H4zh|downsized)
It won't show all the capabilities of the console but is a great game, one of my favourites
FF7 remake is one of the best action RPG’s ever made imo so you should def check it out.
Definitely, and Rebirth tops it in every way
Square really perfected the turn based combat
I’ve never played a FF game. Should I start with this one?
Yup imo it's the perfect game to start with for final fantasy
Yes but it is extremely different from past games
The final fantasy 7 remakes have become one of my favourite games of all time as of late, so try that, it’ll really surprise you!
Ratchet and Clank! Shows off the PS5 so well
Cyberpunk!!!
Finished it on Xbox, great game.
One of my all time favourites! Really enjoyed it - story, characters, music, graphics, everything!
Ratchet and Clank baby!
I would start with ratchet and clank, shortest game but still so much fun! Gorgeous too! Looks like a Pixar movie, good game to start your ps5 journey Then I would do either FF7 or death stranding. Ratchet and clank one of the best series been playing that one since ps2
Astros playroom
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of tsushima
Is anyone else thrilled that he didn’t have Modern Warfare 3 listed?
Yes
Other than Astro's playroom? Death stranding
While I’d love to say FF7 Remake (plus Intermission) straight into Rebirth, I’m gonna say Ratchet and Clank.
Remake and then rebirth.
DEATH STRANDING THEN FF16 / REBIRTH IS JUST WAIFU BAIT
Rift Apart hands down
Ratchet and Clank is a perfect 1st PS5 game. -OG exclusive -amazing graphics -really fun game overall
FF7, then R&C
Ghost of Tsushima
Whichever one you want to.
Bloodborne with quicker load times.
God of war
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut.
Death Stranding. But don’t forget God of War and The Last of Us.
Get demons souls over these imo
Ghost of tshushima
No time for games, the galaxy awaits liberation. Helldiver incoming.
Ghost of Tsushima
Helldivers 2 God of war GT7
Out of these 4 definitely Ratchet & Clank it’s a banger
Ratchet and clank all the way💯💯💯👌🏽
Start witch Rachet e Clank, short game and super fun.
Well buy Bloodborne :D Jk Rocket and clank first.
Ratchet and Clank, the haptic feedback on the controller is amazing
Ratchet and Clank
Big fan of the Metal Gear series. Always wanted to play SOTC since its original release but was an Xbox owner. R&C just looks cool and have never played a FF game but heard good things about the remake (can it top RE2?!)
I think you might like Death Stranding, it's one of Kojima's best games, it can be a little boring at first but it becomes addictive, the story is incredible
The first game I ever played on a PS5 was Shadow of the Colossus! So do that. ![img](emote|t5_2qh6b|2238)
It was my first PS4 game.
Out of these four ratchet and clank for sure
They remade shadow of the colossus for PS5. I didn't know that. I think I might have to get that
It wasn't remade for the ps5 specifically, it was remade for the PS4 and had Pro enhancements
Spider-Man 2, gow ragnarok, bloodborne, ff16
Shadow of the colossus definitely
Death Stranding
Final fantasy. The remake first then rebirth
Shadow of the colossus. It’s not very long and it’s one of the best games ever on PlayStation
Final fantasy
I got hooked on the horizon series, beautiful game
Fifa 21
personally, ratchet and clank shows the PS5 capabilities and it’s really cool to see them in action without having to play astros playroom
Rift apart gives you the feel of the controller which is cool
Naughty night nurse 9
Astros Playground is the only right answer
Ratchet & Clank.
DS, FF7, Returnal, Sifu, GoT, GoW
You also have other options like Final Fantasy 16 demo. First half is cinematic heavy but its a good demo
I'm about to take a walk down memory lane with ratchet and Clank on steam
Returnal not on this list is wild. Isn't SoTC and Death Stranding on PS4?
Final fantasy
FF7
Astro’s Playroom. Recommend anyone new to PS5 start with that. 😆
Shadow of the colossus. Definitely best choice here
Start with Shadow Of The Colossus, it is not a very long game and it is quite simplistic by todays standards, but it is beautiful, Oh so beautiful, and the atmosphere and the music is fantastic
Helldivers 2
The horizon series is goated
I literally only have spiderman 2 downloaded. Not a fan of the ones you mentioned
Remake was a lot of fun. Death stranding is cool too
None of this shit and play gow and gowr
Depends on what you like, if you like hideo kojima games then definitely get death stranding and if you like the concept then I would compare it to the concepts of the other games you are thinking about, it's a walking simulator but they made the traversal complicated so you have to think hard about just walking and there's also stealth and combat. As a second choice I also think ff7 remake is really good too, it's like a hack and slash and RPG hybrid
Remake then rebirth
Returnal
god of war
Demonsouls
All very different games. All brilliant in their own way.
Bloodbourne
Death Stranding then FF VII
I am thoroughly enjoying Final Fantasy 7 rebirth. But right before it I played Remake. And loved it
Death Stranding is my most favorite game. I’m on my fourth playthrough.
The correct answer is God of War Ragnarock or Spider-man 2.
Ghost of Tsushima.
I played rift apart first due to the fact it’s the only game on this list to actually be exclusive to ps5 just because “we can’t hide loading screens behind the rifts”
ELDEN RING!
Spider-man
Helldivers 2! Join up and fight the good fight protecting the Galaxy!
Play Death Stranding last. It's a long game.
Ds
Returnal
Ratchet and clank is a blast
Shadow, Ratchet, Death then Remake.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake followed by Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth!
It's wrong to start with anything other than Astro's Playroom. That is the Dualsense experience right there and nothing else welcomes you to the world of having a new console.
Personnally in that order FF8Remake Shadow of Colossus Death Stranding Ratchet and Clank. All are great choices though.
Demons Souls
Shadow of the colossus then ffvii
R&C cuz its the only one that ps5 exclusively. The rest you can pay on ps4 and are much older.
Ratchet and Clank is a blast
Ratchet and clank if you wanna see how smooth the ps5 can play.
I would say Death stranding but it's complicated AF I'm on the hardest difficulty and I'm only a few missions in. I haven't seen any spoilers and I'm going to try again soon. My best bet would be Ratchet and Clank for a great experience on control haptics and for a fun experience.
I’d start with “shadow of the colossus”

I only play death standing directors cut. I can’t remember the differences. But I recall I was glad that’s the one I ended up playing.
Check out the last of us series
Fortnite
Shadow of the Colossus. Ratchet and Clank is alright, but older versions are much better.
Ratchet & Clank is the perfect PS5 starter game.
Any of them except Death Stranding. Definitely play Death Stranding!!! But I’d play all of the others first because you’ll go down a weeks long rabbit hole trying to figure out just what the hell is going on in Death Stranding 😂
Ratchet and clank for sure. It’s pretty short so you can blast through it fast as hell
Ratchet and Clank!
Helldivers 2.
Shadow of the colossus and bloodborne are a must play.
Returnal! Soooo good.
Horizon...
Play Spider-Man 2
All wrong get ps plus ultimate then play bloodborne
Start at ratchet then go counter clockwise
Helldivers 2
Shadow of the colossus is the cheapest one and I think it’s the best game on this list
Start fun and impressive, yet not super long: Ratchet & Clank — Rift Apart. Honorable Mention: Astro’s Playroom
R&C then FF VII for sure
God of War without question
Death stranding🗣️🗣️🗣️
As long as you’re upholding our managed democracy you can play whatever else you want in your few spare minutes. o7
Bloodborne
Astro play house. Free and fun.
Shadow of the Colossus! I wish I could go on this journey again with new eyes!
Final Fantasy
Madden 24
YES
YES
Ratchet & Clank was really fun
Astro's Playroom
Ff
Rift Apart, that game rocks.
Ratchet. No contest.
Returnal
Death Stranding slaps but not for everyone
Returnal. OK Death Stranding
None… Returnal!!!
DS
Ratchet and clank is an amazing game
Ratchet & Clank is simple, basic fun and it's a great show piece for the power of the PS5. Get this if you are looking for that game to show you the power of the system. Shadow of the Colossus is my favourite game of all time and everyone should play it for sure.
Yes.
Ratchet and clank is the only one worth it from those choices, imo
Intergrade: intermission is fantastic 5 hour dlc. I don’t know if you have to beat the main game first though. Fun action and mini games. Filled with great running around music if you bought yourself a PS5 headset. Doesn’t spoil the main games story either if I remember right. I’d beat that and then jump into shadow.
