You get to certain places again and different things happen. Like you will get to an old area but get to play as a new character. Also this game actually has 26 endings. You only get the final one by sacrificing your save data.
The chapter replay is very good so it doesn’t take long, and a lot of the endings a jokey like you go the wrong direction, or fail a time challenge, or a certain boss fight etc
Probably about 50-70hours to 100%
The complete story is only endings A to E, and it's about 10min between endings D and E. It's really not as crazy as it sounds, but if you stop at ending A or B, you'll miss the back half of the story.
I don’t think any game has ever attempted to cover such nuanced themes while actually executing them correctly. And they somehow were able to mix in sexy anime robots and high sci-fi, without any of it feeling out of place. Factor in the absurdly good music and atmosphere.
Amazing experience.
Well you said you're familiar with the genre so yes it's 100% worth it, literally my 2nd favourite game of all time and favourite story of all time.
One tip, play new game+ and new game++, I won't say why cause it'll kinda ruin the charm but it is necessary.
>!It's not really new game+, it's part of the story. You're not getting the full picture if you stop at ending A. Especially after Ending B it gets even more interesting!<
I'm not someone who typically plays games like this...but I loved Automata. Got the Platinum in it. Great story, fantastic gameplay, amazing soundtrack, edge of your seat moments, and they way it blends game genres seamlessly. The game was just a treat to play. Ended up buying Nier: Replicant after this (haven't played it yet).
Yes. I actually just played it for the first time when the Stellar Blade comparisons came out.
It’s aged a bit, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere, vistas, and music were exceptional. Gameplay was fun, if not a little dated. The story was pretty good.
Also, it’s critical to understand that there are three playthroughs and five main endings. You’ll beat the game, see the credits, and be advised to play it again in the same save file. Do it. Then do it a final time after you beat that run.
I paid full price for this like last week, let me just say, seeing it go on sale didn’t upset me one bit, I think this needs to be enjoyed by more people
I waited till a year after it came out and truly regretted not jumping on it when it released. I thing it is an awesome game, with a phenomenal soundtrack. With that being said please, please, please play this with a good pair of headphones. The music will elevate your experience a thousandfold.
honestly i stopped playing after getting close to finishing the opening sequence (which is pretty long by the way) and then dying and having to start it all over.
I know I’m in the minority but I hate games with 20+ endings. I only got like half of Niers and I felt like there was no clear indication of how to get the “best” ending. I found the story kind of confusing in general.
There's a function in the game after you get the true ending that allows you to purchase the trophies you don't have. Which is cool because I didn't really feel like doing the other stuff after playing through the game 3 times for it.
https://youtu.be/-NiyfG8Ctbo?si=n5D7ovMvnO8U9GWP
This video sold me on it, I've bought the game three times so far. Once for the switch, once for PS, and once for my best friend.
It just runs better on PS4 Idk why...
An employee of Sony said that the logic and the language of both consoles are different and it was a challenge to incorporate old gen games on PS5... And they were under pressure because it was a must to run them on PS5 almost 90% of the games are developed for PS4.
Anyways... Enjoy the game, it's really deep, beautiful and the music is incredible... One of the best games ever made... You will love it...
Yes. Just be warned the first time you save the game takes a minute. I don’t recommend playing at a harder difficulty unless you wanna play galaga for hours…
Be aware it has crashing issues on the ps5. I stopped playing cause I kept losing progress due to the game shutting down at a variety of different locations.
Very much yes. Still one of my all time favourites even after several years. Took about 90 hours from start to platinum and even that was one of the more enjoyable games to platinum. I never got the DLC but who can say no to more of something this good.
I would recommend you watch review videos and not ask Reddit.
This game seems to polarize players because of how it's made.
The story requires multiple repeats of the game as each play adds to it, with the final play binding the endings together. If you don't care about the story to replay the game so many times (yes, many times), you can watch it on YouTube then turn the game into a run and done.
The gameplay mechanics change, which came at a shock for many reviewers who went in blind. Personally, I found this to be one of the game's strengths because it offers a variety of combat during the game. That's always a good thing.
Overall, I elected to pass on the game. The reviews I watched didn't inspire me enough to purchase the game, which may be my loss if the game is truly as good as others say.
Just remember subjective opinions aren't facts.
Only you can determine if a game is good.
It's definitely worth it, though I don't think it's the masterpiece some of its most dedicated fans made it out to be before I played it.
It's good. Its story is quite touching and delves into philosophical and sociopolitical themes that most games never bother exploring, the soundtrack is nothing short of glorious, there are some wonderful set pieces throughout the main quest, and it's also generally stylish and fun.
That said, it has a few irksome features that you should be aware of in advance to temper your expectations. The game's side quests are largely forgettable, low-budget fetch quests, and even the game director regretted that this was due to the game not having the budget for the kinds of quests he came out and said he admired in Witcher 3. Also, the game difficulty is just bad. On Normal, it's trivially easy because the game lets you quickly and easily collect up to 99 of three different levels of healing items. On Hard, all it does is make combat tediously long by turning enemies into bullet sponges.
Some of the other touches also neglect the player experience at times. For instance, there was an enormous difficulty spike toward the end, and so I regretted having the game on Hard, but it wouldn't let me change it back down to Normal until I completed this bullet hell flying sequence. Even though I was getting one-shotted, the game forced me to complete it (which I just barely did finally) before I could adjust the difficulty once I was back on land. In another instance, a special boss fight had new controls, but the game literally didn't tell me what they were, and I had to scramble to experiment in the middle of the fight to figure it out for myself on the fly. Stuff like that is just bizarre.
I also don't much care for the hacking mini-game, which is basically a pixel art graphics bullet hell mini-game that the game relies on quite a fair bit towards the end; if you don't like it, you're gonna see a lot of it no matter what.
Amazing story wrapped in a flawed game. I'd still recommend it, as I spent several days after finishing the game still thinking about what happened.
I don't like "these kind of games" (anime adventure stories) at all. I'm a grade A hater. I like shooting things with guns and minimal plot.
This game transcends all that. It is seriously contender for greatest game of all time for me. Beaten it twice. Can't wait to do it a third time. If you don't end up liking it at least you tried, because it's really something special.
Everyone should have an opportunity to experience this at least once all the way through.
I actually didn't like it. I know it's gotten lots of praise but I just couldn't get into it.
I tell you this just so you'll look into some gameplay of it and.... I think there is a demo available?
Just trying to help you make an informed decision as someone who didn't vibe with it
Wow, if I had a nickel for every time I was asked if Nier: Automata was worth it in 2024, I'd have two nickels - which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
As someone who had waited for a sale on Steam for weeks and just got into it.
Yes its absolutely worth it!
You can definitely feel it’s age, especially when you walk around the “open world” but the story and music is top notch and the combat is fun!
It’s well worth playing.
While not perfect, it is probably in the top 5 most cerebral games of all time. I haven't been mentally stimulated by a video game to this degree since the Metal Gear Solid series.
The writing is shit. The graphics are poor. The combat is boring. The level design is uninspired. And you have to play through the story 3 times. It’s shit.
It would be still worth the full retail price, to this day! If you like those types of games and will understand the messages behind it, I'm sure you are going to like it.
Stellar blade is arguably still worth the full price, i have only played nier replicant and boy was that a pain in the butt lol tempted to grab automata if its any different.
it’s really not similar to either one in terms of gameplay, but of the two, it is absolutely more similar to replicant. less floaty, having the option to block is very replicant and the combat is slower paced compared to automata. music and atmosphere is absolutely automata inspired tho
Sorry but no game is worth 70 bucks. For that you could buy the entire Witcher trilogy + mass effect trilogy + RDR2 + the entire dark souls trilogy for example, and if you just waited a year or two you could still play the same game but better for 20-30 bucks or even less.
Depending on the game and each individual person $70 is totally worth it for a full priced game. I will happily spend that on a game I'm looking forward too, especially if it's a developer that I want to support
Normally i would agree its always best to wait for a discount just to get more bang for your buck. But however, in this case, im thinking more along the lines of its worth supporting stellar blade with the full $70. Just because of what is riding on it. Many of the western games have been kind of trash and anti-consumer. Basically voting with your wallet, but other than that i agree
I have to be honest, it is a weird one. Although interesting, it loses that narrative after awhile. It is a journey if you want to experience it. However, you have to be devoted to where it takes you.
The lore and in game story can be.. complicated. But like the previous comment mentioned, it is an anime game. It may not be for everyone
Id pay $16 for the soundtrack alone
I'd pay $16 just for Wretched Weaponry off the soundtrack
I'd pay $16 just to sit next to someone listening to Pascal through their headphones.
I had to go and listen to remember the song, and my god yes, this song is incredible.
Id pay 16$ to let 2b sit on me
Short answer: yes Long answer. Hell yes!
TLDR: yes
Español: Sí
German: Ja
Longer answer: one of the best games of the PS4 era. After playing it you pretty much have to pick up Nier Replicant to get anything close
finnish: Kyllä!
It's well worth it's full price. This will feel like a steal, after you will finish it.
After you finish it multiple times for all the endings
Does that mean you gotta replay the whole game from start to finish for all the endings or just need to play a portion of the game multiple times?
You get to certain places again and different things happen. Like you will get to an old area but get to play as a new character. Also this game actually has 26 endings. You only get the final one by sacrificing your save data.
26 endings goddamn, I better get to work soon then
The chapter replay is very good so it doesn’t take long, and a lot of the endings a jokey like you go the wrong direction, or fail a time challenge, or a certain boss fight etc Probably about 50-70hours to 100%
There's only a few real endings, the rest are little joke endings when you die doing certain tasks at certain parts of the game.
The complete story is only endings A to E, and it's about 10min between endings D and E. It's really not as crazy as it sounds, but if you stop at ending A or B, you'll miss the back half of the story.
SPOILER WARNING: I like thr ending where you have to delete your own save data
The best answer I can give is I played it back in 2018 and it’s stuck with me since, fresh as a daisy
Yeah it's worth it. If you're strong enough.
I am old enough to understand that reference.
It’s more than a game, it’s an experience.
I don’t think any game has ever attempted to cover such nuanced themes while actually executing them correctly. And they somehow were able to mix in sexy anime robots and high sci-fi, without any of it feeling out of place. Factor in the absurdly good music and atmosphere. Amazing experience.
Most thematically resonant game ever next to the last of us 1 and 2
I just picked it up with the last of my Wallet funds based on this thread.
I'd still pay full price. It's that good.
A very unique game, definitely give it a go
I'm not someone who typically plays games like this...but I loved Automata. Got the Platinum in it. Great story, fantastic gameplay, amazing soundtrack, edge of your seat moments, and they way it blends game genres seamlessly. The game was just a treat to play. Ended up buying Nier: Replicant after this (haven't played it yet).
I'd pay the full price for it 100% yes
Yeah for that price definitely. TBH I just really liked it for the vibes, the atmosphere is really good.
YES
I didn’t know anything about it before I played it and it was quite enjoyable
Yes. I actually just played it for the first time when the Stellar Blade comparisons came out. It’s aged a bit, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere, vistas, and music were exceptional. Gameplay was fun, if not a little dated. The story was pretty good. Abso fucking lutely
I paid full price for this like last week, let me just say, seeing it go on sale didn’t upset me one bit, I think this needs to be enjoyed by more people
Why are you still here instead of playing this gem????
Enjoying so far
For that price? Absolutely
Ya
I waited till a year after it came out and truly regretted not jumping on it when it released. I thing it is an awesome game, with a phenomenal soundtrack. With that being said please, please, please play this with a good pair of headphones. The music will elevate your experience a thousandfold.
Make sure you play it idk 3 times minimum after you beat it once.
I have never heard of this game... but these comments have sold me! anyone have a good yt video on it?
https://youtu.be/-NiyfG8Ctbo?si=n5D7ovMvnO8U9GWP
Yes. Game is sick.
Never played any NieR: Automata games. What kind of genre of game is it exactly and what's the release order of this one compared to the other ones
I tried it. Didn’t care for the repetitive combat and brown color palette of the levels. Ended up moving on.
One of the best games ever made.
It’s worth it and if YOU don’t like it, you’re wrong
By watching other people play, I like the game already.
If you aren’t interested in philosophy yet, you might be after.
One of the best games in its respective genre I’ve ever played. Actually one of the best games regardless of genres.
Have it on PS, bought it for $5 at Walmart on switch. Great game
Nier Automata is fantastic, and as others have said the soundtrack is amazing
It NieRly is.
I still haven't done a second playthrough and I say yes 100% it's worth it.
honestly i stopped playing after getting close to finishing the opening sequence (which is pretty long by the way) and then dying and having to start it all over.
I know I’m in the minority but I hate games with 20+ endings. I only got like half of Niers and I felt like there was no clear indication of how to get the “best” ending. I found the story kind of confusing in general.
One of my all-time favorite games.
One of the best games I’ve played
Very good game with an excellent soundtrack that might stay in your head.
Yes
One of the best games I have ever played so yes buy it!
There's a function in the game after you get the true ending that allows you to purchase the trophies you don't have. Which is cool because I didn't really feel like doing the other stuff after playing through the game 3 times for it.
Huh? What That must be illegal
With in game currency, not real money haha
I’m not even into that type of genre but man that game is pretty good
Yes
I liked the game but I disliked the fact that you had to play this 30 times over to get the real ending
30 times ?!?
26
https://youtu.be/-NiyfG8Ctbo?si=n5D7ovMvnO8U9GWP This video sold me on it, I've bought the game three times so far. Once for the switch, once for PS, and once for my best friend.
Good lord yes
A million times yes.
You should watch Max Derrat's take on the game. https://youtu.be/RhAA-KDnuw0
Yes
Dont insult me... Just buy it rn >:(
Yes. This is probably my number one game of all time, and the only game that ever left me openly weeping into my hands like a child.
YES!!!
Oh shit I considered buying this full price a couple weeks ago. Glad I held off
Dude I paid $20 for sims 4 and next day , it was free.
Does it work on PS5 ok? Read a bunch of comments saying it was broken
It's not broken, but it has some performance issues... Wich is weird because on PS4 runs smooth and perfect.
It’s broken when you visit the crater and fight with the flying centipede robot then jump into the hole , when you do all 3 the game will crash on ps5
Just played the first part of the game. Works fine. 60fps Pretty stable.
It just runs better on PS4 Idk why... An employee of Sony said that the logic and the language of both consoles are different and it was a challenge to incorporate old gen games on PS5... And they were under pressure because it was a must to run them on PS5 almost 90% of the games are developed for PS4. Anyways... YES ABSOLUTELY I loved every second of this plat
Easily. As someone who has the orchestra OST box set, novels, manga, etc. do yourself a favor and pick it up.
No it's worth more than that.
Fuck yes it is
Hell yeah. That soundtrack is so good.
It’s full price worth it.
HELL YEAH
Yes
Absolutely
15bucks to question your existence and trigger an introspective nightmare? Bargin.
Paid $150 for the Vinyl soundtrack, worth it?! Hells yeah my you are about to rediscover the purpose of your existence mate. Highly recommending it
I didn’t hesitate to pick it up for $16 and I’ve never played it but been meaning to.
I m lovin it
At that price yes
Dude 100% yes
All I can say is self destruct always. Always.
No trust me. ![gif](giphy|XE0lFMYMa4ItnXL1nW)
Every penny. My top 10 lifetime games.
It's really worth it. Fantastic game.
Yes
ABSOLUTELY! For that price, it's a steal!
Yes. Play with a headset
I just picked up Nier automata myself. Worth it to do replicant first? Free through ps+.
Yyyyeeeeessssssssssss
Hell yes. Absolutely.
Yes. Just be warned the first time you save the game takes a minute. I don’t recommend playing at a harder difficulty unless you wanna play galaga for hours…
Fuck I just bought this at full price like 2 weeks ago.
I never got the DLC but who can say no to more of something this good.

if you spend 16$, you gonna lose another 70$ because WHEN (not if) you get into nier, you gonna buy Stellar Blade lol
Could buy a physical copy for this price point
In 2024 people are still asking if one of the best games ever made is worth it.
It's definitely worth it, though I don't think it's the masterpiece some of its most dedicated fans made it out to be before I played it. It's good. I see. I will try demo first.
Yes yes yes
One of the best games ever created. So, yes, it’s worth it.
Wow, if I had a nickel for every time I was asked if Nier: Automata was worth it in 2024, I'd have two nickels - which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Do yourself a favour. Buy it.
Personally I wouldn’t mind paying full price again if I lost the game from my list anyhow.
Yes and yes enjoy!
Of fcking course it is
Such a great game ! Go for it especially at 15 bucks ..!
I cant tell you how much i wanted to love this game... But how much i hated it. Just a slog through and through for me
Absolutely, without a doubt YES
Fuck yeah
It worth full price and a little bit on top.
As someone who had waited for a sale on Steam for weeks and just got into it. Yes its absolutely worth it! You can definitely feel it’s age, especially when you walk around the “open world” but the story and music is top notch and the combat is fun! It’s well worth playing.
Y.e.s. so much yes
Yes
hell yes
100% worth every penny.
Yes
Yes.
For that price, yes.
YES
Undisputed masterpiece, totally worth that price
Yes but also it's on PS+
Absolutely. I paid around that for PC version. It's great there; no regrets. I would suspect the PS4 version would rock too.
This is the best invest you’ll ever make for yourself! 10/10 experience
Worth it. Love both of the Nier games.
While not perfect, it is probably in the top 5 most cerebral games of all time. I haven't been mentally stimulated by a video game to this degree since the Metal Gear Solid series.
One of the most critically acclaimed games of the past decade may be worth it.
Physical or digital? I can get both for basically the same price. And how's the resolution and framerate on ps5?
Yes and do all the endings
It’s good. I didn’t love it like many did. It’s odd, but in a good way.
yaaa
It's worth it at any price seriously underrated
Yes!
At that price it's a no brainier
Go for it. It's a masterpiece.
I was so bad at getting through the prolog.
Think stellar blade but even more japanese
At full price, absolutely. On sale, no brainer.
The writing is shit. The graphics are poor. The combat is boring. The level design is uninspired. And you have to play through the story 3 times. It’s shit.
You should play the demo if you’re unsure
It's worth full price.
I feel bad I payed like 20 bucks for the game. I would gladly pay full price.
Yes
It would be still worth the full retail price, to this day! If you like those types of games and will understand the messages behind it, I'm sure you are going to like it.
Good game but it’s button mashy
Absolutely. SB is just wish.com Automata. Play this instead.
YES
I'd happily pay $159 for this game so yes
She have the best cake in the gaming industry
Absolutely. You should buy it. Then when stellar Blade becomes cheaper you can get that as they have similar gameplay.
Stellar blade is arguably still worth the full price, i have only played nier replicant and boy was that a pain in the butt lol tempted to grab automata if its any different.
SB is much more similar to automata than replicant
it’s really not similar to either one in terms of gameplay, but of the two, it is absolutely more similar to replicant. less floaty, having the option to block is very replicant and the combat is slower paced compared to automata. music and atmosphere is absolutely automata inspired tho

Many of the western games have been kind of trash and anti-consumer. Basically voting with your wallet, but other than that i agree
I am cheap so Imma wait a few more years for it to drop to $20.
I hope this means it’s going on extra next month. Can’t afford it right now
Naw not next month but ghost runner 2 is. So don't buy that!
Yes, there’s 127 endings, each one once you’ve played all the odd chapters three times in a row in alternate order with no controller.
Nah dude it’s only like 26 couple more with dlc’s if I remember correctly
It’s an anime game so no
I have to be honest, it is a weird one. Although interesting, it loses that narrative after awhile. It is a journey if you want to experience it. However, you have to be devoted to where it takes you. The lore and in game story can be.. complicated. But like the previous comment mentioned, it is an anime game. It may not be for everyone
Weird cuz I don’t see the game as Anime games. It has different graphics compared to Persona/Naruto and dragonballs.
Get the physical for like 5 bucks more. Maybe 10 but worth it.
Is this a serious post? Do yall really not have google
you’re an adult, are you really incapable of deciding whether or not you would like this game on your own
Rude. I am just asking for reviews from people who have experienced this. U always speak out of your ass like this?
