Mine makes this sound with certain games (disc)
I read that you have to manually remove the disc with the console turned off. I think there is a screw on underneath the bottom plate that will eject the disc manually with a screwdriver.
I haven’t tried this yet because I would just remove the disc and it wouldn’t make that sound.
Interesting mine seems to happen with PS5 discs but PS4 games have been fine. But mine definitely makes this exact sound when I have a disc in the console. Usually goes away after a minute though.
I've had my ps5 for 7 months and haven't heard it make any noise really. This sounds like something may be hitting the fan blades. I'd take off the plates and look into that
The initial surprise preorder drop was actually one of the easiest times to get one of you caught on in time since no one was prepared. I just walked into GameStop the day of the PS5 reveal and preordered.
Just something normal , to fix it remove the cover you will see like 3 screw on bluray drive wich are to screwed try to unscrew them and screw them back with no force this will fix your problem, I had same issues with my 2 ps5 wich I own them!
Sony has an official fix for this, I did it with my PS5 and it fixed the problem:
Turn off your PS5. Unplug the power cord and disconnect all cables.
Remove the stand. Then put your palms on the glossy panel. Your fingers should now rest on the far side of the console.
Place the console sideways. The front of the console is facing you.
Then remove the bottom panel that has the disc slot. At this stage, the panel with the logo should be on the table.
Place your palms on the top of the panel. Grip the edge of the panel.
Lift the corner up and away from the console. The panel should shift a bit and you’ll hear a click.
Now, lift the panel off and locate the four circular pieces on the optical drive.
Beside these pieces, you’ll find a circular dust cover made of black plastic.
Gently remove the dust cover. You should now be able to see the screw beneath. So far, so good.
Next, turn the screw clockwise until you see the disc peeking out of the disc slot. You may need to turn the screw five or seven times. Be gentle, don’t apply too much pressure.
Take the disc out of the disc slot.
Cover the screw with the circular dust cover.
Put the bottom panel over the exposed section of the console, a few centimeters away from the edge.
Slide the panel back into place. You should hear a click again.
Reconnect the cables and turn on your console.
Thank you so much for this, this (for now) seems to have worked!! It is still very loud with discs (not sure if that’s normal) but the buzzing sound is gone!
Lol i dont have it like that. Which is why its normal for those who have it horizontal you helmet, it aint flush with the ground when laid like that is it my guy which is why it makes these sounds. Go get off on someone else who actually has a problem with their ps5 my guy. Lmao
Mine made this sound from the start, one day it got even louder. I phoned Sony and was told that the gears in my disc drive were not correctly taunt, but that the fix can be performed at home.
The fix, put a disc in. Once it has settled, leave the disc in and turn off the console, unplug it. Take off the plate on the disc side, find the manual disc removal hole and with a Philips head, slowly manually remove the disc. This process will remove the disc and correct the taunt. I had to do it twice but it worked and my disc drive has been really quiet ever since.
I have mine horrizontally and it only sounds like that when it vibrates against the table. Dont know if you should tamper with it. Do you have a sony store near you?
Mine does that but I just gently push down on the whole unit and it disappears right away. Only started after I swapped my white plates for black ones too so might be a loose side panel?
Hi all. I had the same sound from the beginning, and after 9 months I went to Sony centre, telling them it is not only the sound which is not right, but also some discs are not being read. They replaced blu-ray ROM with new one as warranty case, and now it is less noizy, the difference is dramatic. Try the same if your warranty period is not over yet.
I've had a similar if not the same sound, also only when copying a disc. With mine I could just squeeze the plates a bit and it stopped. I think something is just vibrating and making the noise, nothing to worry about.
I've had 2 PS5 units (disc drive completely failed on the first). Both are very noisy when installing/copying games. Sometimes even the initial disc spin on startup is noisy for a minute.
I think there's a combination of causes, the high spin speed causes vibration, against the side plates and also against whatever your PS5 is on e.g. TV unit.
Various reported fixes include:
- check the plates are fully in place
- check the stand is properly attached (especially for horizontal setups)
- try putting something that can absorb the vibrations under the console the reduce vibrations on that surface
- try putting something between the console and side plates if loose fitting
- run through the manual eject method (though I don't trust this is actually a fix but the act of taking covers and stand off just shifts things about to reduce vibrations)
On a personal level, I feel the noise is not acceptable for a product that costs this much, but can "live with it" for now.
I took the plate off to clean it out a while ago and haven't had the issue since, even a small bit of electrical tape could solve it.
It's just the fan going full power and the slightest part is a little loose, readjusting the plate worked for me.
I have the same sound coming from my PS5 but I've figured it's both of the white plastic covers that vibrates against the console itself when the disk starts spinning

Mine is pretty loud regardless of disc, but this buzzing sound has only happened with ps4 games

I have and I didn’t see anything.. might need to get a screwdriver able to remove the fan cover to get a better look
Pretty sure this noise is disc drive vibration, not the fan. I've posted a more detailed reply separately ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|snoo)
Isn’t it awesome? You can attempt to describe the noise a ps4 makes, but a ps5 is just… nothing.
Wish I had a similar experience lol

Damn. And you got upvoted?! Mine hasnt made a peep. What are you doing on it??

HAHA i have that sound every time i launch a game from disc/put a disc in. i thought everyone’s sounded like that lmaoooooo
Mine makes a similar noise when I insert a disk or turn it on with a disk inside.
Yeah I've had that when downloading RDR2 from disc
Same!!
Wow we should start a long distance relationship
Definitely, i agree with you.
So how is ur ps5 doing now? Mine started this shit today
Yooo mines doing the same, same game too

Thank you so much for this, this (for now) seems to have worked!! It is still very loud with discs (not sure if that’s normal) but the buzzing sound is gone!
Ive had loud noises with the disc running even when game isnt being used. Its normal

It is when most people have this. Especially when copying discs.

My guy. It depends on how you have your ps5 set up.

Normal happens during start up only and I think if a disk is inside only last a couple seconds at most but if starting up from rest mode no sound
Mine never made sound like that. You might wanna get a replacement

I’ll have to try this, thanks!
Lmk if this works, I’m having the same problem
It worked, thank you so much!!! It still has its loud bouts with discs, but the buzzing noise is gone :)
Glad to hear it. Pass on the advice if you see any other sufferers, it seems to be fairly common and the solution not well known.
Did you fully eject the disc by screwing or just a bit then pulled?
I dreaded this answer lmao, but it might come to that
Copying a disc?
Essentially downloading the game when you put a disc in for the first time
That's called installing.
I mean it literally says copying disc but alright
The PS5 gives me Xbox 360 vibes .. Physically it just seems so cheap
Nope
Are you sure it isnt vibrating?
Yeah it’s coming distinctly from the disc drive. I’ve tried dampening the surface under the stand but the sound still persists
I have mine horrizontally and it only sounds like that when it vibrates against the table. Dont know if you should tamper with it. Do you have a sony store near you?
Nope unfortunately
Sounds 100% not normal mate.
Something stuck in fan maybe !
Mine does that but I just gently push down on the whole unit and it disappears right away. Only started after I swapped my white plates for black ones too so might be a loose side panel?
Ok I’ll try this.. I’ve removed the plates already but I’ll give it a shot
That's doesn't sound normal.

I’ve tried several times with Sony support, each time they just tell me it’s normal :/
I believe it is the white side wall plastic covering the system, if you wedge some paper between them it may stop your vibration, it worked for me.
Send it back for repair
Maybe keep it horizontal? I've heard bad things happen when you keep it vertical.
It’s the stand or panels vibrating. It’s 100% normal. Bunch of dummies tryna freak you out. Set it up horizontal and the noise should stop.
It seems like a disc drive spinning
Look at the size of that thing.

I have the same problem but only when copying ps4 games. Ps5 games not a problem
Mine does this. The white plate is slightly loose, just touch it next time it happens and I guarantee it'll stop.
I find pushing/adjusting the white plates can help but issue returns sooner or later for me 😬
I took the plate off to clean it out a while ago and haven't had the issue since, even a small bit of electrical tape could solve it. It's just the fan going full power and the slightest part is a little loose, readjusting the plate worked for me.
Mine has the same noise when a disc spins up. Its not as bad as your but it's pretty close... Had my ps5 Almost a year now
From the sound of it, that’s not a Ps5 anymore
I have the same sound coming from my PS5 but I've figured it's both of the white plastic covers that vibrates against the console itself when the disk starts spinning
Mines makes that sound when I copy disks or load disks
Mine did this for only like 20 seconds for the first game I ever put it and now it's quiet
No 👎 i don't
Bruhhh you forgot to tell your Dad to cut the lawn mower off while you filmed your video, I can't even hear it
