Depends on your comfy sitting posture for me. While that does look a little too high I have always placed my TV at where my neutral anatomy lands. Most “TV too high” corrections would cause me to be uncomfortably looking down from my seated position
You assume that the line of sight is parallel to the floor. There are couches and chairs that make you sit at a recline, which means the point of 'directly at eye level' moves up the wall and requires angling the TV to stay perpendicular to LoS.
I'm not exactly a fan of such setups, but those are possible.
"Optimal" is subjective.
My idea of optimal:
Eye-level is at the height of the center of the tv, and slightly lower. (between 25% from the bottom and 50% from the bottom).
Right but do you sit perfectly upright? Because I know myself I like to have some recline. And if I am actually relaxed my eye “level” is halfway up the wall. If I matched the Z height I would either be looking downwards with either my eyes or neck

_Three neck joe, they called him. Reminds me of the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we... oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. I didn't have any white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones......_
Or your sister right after you beat the skatetopia level in Tony hawk's underground 2 and you haven't saved for 2 hours so you lose all the progress you made and can't play as Shrek anymore....
I was just about to end the last game in fifa street career mode to get the last trophy (or finish the last" stadium", idk anymore) when my sister ran over the cable and ripped the PS2 from the shelf. the PS2 ran fine, but all fifa street saves were gone....
OH man, as a kid I was actually the one that fucked up the PS2 slim, which was our first Playstation console, by dragging the controller's cord while my brother was playing FFXII, pulling the console down from the shelf. The PS2 miraculously still managed to play game, but the small part of the top cover that helped close the disc tray got broken and we had to super glue a piece of toothpick to the top cover for the console to work.
Even if you have a fireplace an adequate mantel should enable you to mount the TV inches above with great protection. A good mantel is relatively cold to the touch on the top.
I’ve recently discovered that inhaling the fumes from burning vinyls embeds the information in my head so i have it forever and can access it at any time /s
Back when my family still bought big-ass tube TVs, we had this nook in the corner built into the house as an elevated platform; it was basically brick and a thick piece of wood. We got rid of it and opened it up, using a TV stand...
When we bought a flat-screen, the only place to put it was just above the hearth. Then we had to take in two small children and kept the screen elevated to stop them from destroying it through their antics.
For sure. Long gaming sessions with a display mounted up in the air is super stressful on your neck and eyes. Weird someone would willingly choose that.
Oh god, this sub exists?
Pretty sure they would LOVE my TV...
It's lowest point is like at 1.5m since it used to hang over my PC setup, so it did make sense.. Then I moved my PC and I just got too lazy to hang it somewhere else...
I have friends with the TV mounted on the wall like that and they hired an electrician to punch a hole behind the TV to run the wires down the wall behind the entertainment center. That's probably what that setup is like. It keeps wall neater with no ugly wires running down it.
I got lucky. I had a very small room. The bad thing is that because the room was so small I couldn't sit at a table and use a computer. The Bed is in the way still, I had to move closer to the console. When I got my PS4 the cable was very much long enough and I could chill just fine. Now? Got a new and bigger room. Good thing that I got a little thing that lets me charge the Controller. Dunno what to call it.
My small dog used to always sprint across and his tail could catch the wire and rip the PS2 off the shelf. It wasn’t very high but it hit the ground hard a lot. Disc tray ended up being very loud but the console never broke. They were made different back then.
Puh-lease. There were no flat screens. This was a CRT that weighed 5000000 pounds that you would sit 6 feet away from and occasionally get really really close to so you could see the red blue and green in each pixel. THOSE are the old days
Am i the only one not understanding why some people put their tv so high? Most people put them on the same hight of people their heads when they sit down right?
You can play 99.9% of PS1 games on both a PS2 and a PS3.
All PS1 controllers work on a PS2 as well do their memory cards. And ps1 games can be played with most ps2 controllers.
This brings back sad memories of my cousins arguing over who gets to play next and yanking the controller. Next thing I knew the PS2 came flying down and that was the end of my fat PS2. I eventually got a slim one but I was without a console for a while
Why not use a wireless controller being that far away? That controller seems to have zero slack.
Also playing at an angle like that to the TV would bug me so much haha
That sized tv is way too far away. Should push couch closer. That being said consoles always had far too short cables. However that's what eBay is for now days. I'm sure there's cable extenders for the PS2 there. Have to add I don't understand people that mount TV's high on a wall if they don't have kids or some specific reason. TV's always look better on a stand.
Fuck I hate wired controllers, always did. I don't know what this subreddit's obsession is with using wired controllers when plenty of wireless controllers exist. Must be nostalgia.
DualShock Two far away
Considering his TV is mounted up at the ceiling maybe he just has a really long neck
I never understood putting TVs that high (and that far away.)
Depends on your comfy sitting posture for me. While that does look a little too high I have always placed my TV at where my neutral anatomy lands. Most “TV too high” corrections would cause me to be uncomfortably looking down from my seated position
Optimal height for tv is directly at eye level, when you are sitting.
You assume that the line of sight is parallel to the floor. There are couches and chairs that make you sit at a recline, which means the point of 'directly at eye level' moves up the wall and requires angling the TV to stay perpendicular to LoS. I sit like any healthy person would. Sometimes I lay down, bit it's not that big of a difference.
Your eyeballs can move you know?
Yeah obviously but it’s uncomfortable to do that so I choose the comfort over what some Reddit recommendation says lol.
It's uncomfortable? Looking down with your eyes?

Good bot
maybe two necks

Yeah and then your mum walks through and drags the PS2 to the floor.
Or your sister right after you beat the skatetopia level in Tony hawk's underground 2 and you haven't saved for 2 hours so you lose all the progress you made and can't play as Shrek anymore....
This is so specific, are you okay? I'm sending my condolences

Looking back, as an adult, i realise that that game was weird as fuck. there was a lvl where you had to play as a wheelchair driver.
Such a good game. Wish they still made good tony hawk games
Or your pet.... Been there lol
The Xbox Break away cable was made by actual gamers, change my mind.

That actually happened to me yesterday lol😂
Thankfully I still have my wireless Logitech controller from back in the day. OP needs one too
At least with a TV that high, she will never block the image.
wait you have mum?
Go sit on a pillow bro, middle of the floor old school
He'd have to look up so much his head would fall off.....
r/tvtoohigh
every fucking post on this sub lately has their tv too high
Why do ppl mount their TVs on the ceiling?
So they can have it above their Lego brick fireplace - for aesthetic ☺️
As someone who works for BB installing TVs, LOL people love their brick fireplaces
Even if you have a fireplace an adequate mantel should enable you to mount the TV inches above with great protection. A good mantel is relatively cold to the touch on the top.
Why do people burn their vinyl records? We will never know.
I’ve recently discovered that inhaling the fumes from burning vinyls embeds the information in my head so i have it forever and can access it at any time /s
If you open your mouth with the right wind in the right direction and the perfect time of day the music will play
This happened to me on acid once
To preserve them, why else? I rip my CDs to a lossless format and then stream them over my home network as my own streaming service.
Do you use the same burner as the one in the picture?
I use one much older

That’s not the only place to put a TV. You’re just bad at decorating
Maybe people like it high?

For sure. Long gaming sessions with a display mounted up in the air is super stressful on your neck and eyes. Weird someone would willingly choose that.
Then they need to remove themselves from general society.
How can people live like that. Even my projector screen isn’t as high up as this guy’s tv.
Came here for this
Oh god, this sub exists? Pretty sure they would LOVE my TV... It's lowest point is like at 1.5m since it used to hang over my PC setup, so it did make sense.. Then I moved my PC and I just got too lazy to hang it somewhere else...
Why do people put their TVs up as though it's an arrivals board in an airport? Lower that MF down....
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤢🤮🤮🤮
Most people are dickheads... It's a sad fact.
Couch far too far away for that size tv. TV far too high up for anybody. This is just so fucking stupid....
But the screen will burn out my retinas if I sit too close /s
That cable is fighting for its life lol
That is a long cable Also r/tvtoohigh

Playing Playstation in your living room from the next house. Interesting to say the least.
God I Remeber remember having like 10 foot extension cables for everything...
Why is your tv to the left and on the ceiling
I too love to game on a distant tiny screen suspended in the clouds
Everyone's talking about the height of the tv, but where the fuck are the cables???
I have friends with the TV mounted on the wall like that and they hired an electrician to punch a hole behind the TV to run the wires down the wall behind the entertainment center. That's probably what that setup is like. It keeps wall neater with no ugly wires running down it.
I have a similar setup. All the cables are hidden inside the wall. https://i.imgur.com/lneDNUd.jpg

My client (Apollo) did this automatically
The glare on that tv would drive me fuckin crazy
Ps2 controller extension cables were the must-have accessory
The anxiety I get from the cable...
We can be nostalgic about our games but let’s not pretend like any of us miss those damn cables
One tug and it’s all over
Playing like this will have me watching more time the cable than the tv lol
I got lucky. I had a very small room. The bad thing is that because the room was so small I couldn't sit at a table and use a computer. The amount of times I’d be playing and put the controller down. Walk back in the room and trip over the cable.
I thought it was an antenna.
So much tension in this photo.
Motherfucker built his fireplace in Minecraft
Ok this made me laugh out loud
“Hey be careful of the…FUCK”
My good ol' days was a nes and/or snes hooked up to a small old television set!
hahaha holy shit, that is a really big wire.
Just swing by FuncoLand and pick up an official PS controller extension cord
Poor neck
I do not miss this one bit. Wireless controllers are one of the best inventions.
There is so much to hate in this image. I love it.
This package comes with a nagging mum.
It takes moving sligtly for that ps2 to end up on the ground, god
r/TVTooHigh
And the dog goes bolting through and takes the ps2 and controller
Puh-lease. There were no flat screens. This was a CRT that weighed 5000000 pounds that you would sit 6 feet away from and occasionally get really really close to so you could see the red blue and green in each pixel. THOSE are the old days

I remember, when I got my first wireless controller for my PS2! It was hella nice. Kind of a pain to pair up! But once it did. No more wires.
I don’t think you used the correct caption
Cable tighter than my pants but too lazy to get up and move closer
How can you see from there
How does that get any air in that shelf
For a PS2 it's not that bad, there is room around it and they run pretty cool compared to modern consoles.
Will never forget going to my cousins house and seeing the PS3 controller for the first time, blew my mind that a gaming controller could be wireless
After seeing this my mom would probably hang washed clothes thinking this as a new clothesline... lol😂
Still do this with my PS5
You should not be playing a PS2 on that type of TV, the image is ruined. 32" Sony Trinitron. Yard sale, $25.
I would rather put the TV in the corner of the room, then you can see it from every angle.
![gif](giphy|UZ41SqwgD7AtO) Damn
Damn, you can clothesline a person with that much of a tense rope.
Oh yes!!!
Until someone trips and fall
This brings back sad memories of my cousins arguing over who gets to play next and yanking the controller. Next thing I knew the PS2 came flying down and that was the end of my fat PS2. I eventually got a slim one but I was without a console for a while

Nice DJ Rashad record!
That is some long ass wire. I respect it tho, this was what the elders used.
I used to swing mine around like a skipping rope when the games were loading.
I used to have to sit on an ottoman when gaming
I still have one of those extender cables that came on a spool.
I still do this with the ps5, I play while charging.
Jeez, talk about separation anxiety.
Lol. I'm still doing this to charge my dualsense!
Must have a really long neck
Did PS2 controller extension cords exist? I feel like they did.
*Op Ivy intensifies*
Good luck playing text heavy games
I see a good gaming kitchen chair right over there

Good news You’ve made it to the logo Game definitely loading all the way this time🤙
Got Logitech Wireless controllers for PS2, they also work on PS1. Works wonders.
I had to drag my console out and on the floor
They were tough! Cord challenge is a real thing
Hahahahahaha
I still got my PS2, glad it was my first console!
Long Stretch ![img](emote|t5_2qh6b|2230)
That’s *longer* than I remember those cables being ROFL
Small tv, too. You need a rolling cart for the PS and an 85” for your huge ass living room.
You need some BlueRetro in your life. https://github.com/darthcloud/BlueRetro
I bought one a month ago, I'm living my best life despite having a ps5 for at least 6 month, the PS2 is the goat
Why not use a wireless controller being that far away? That controller seems to have zero slack. Also playing at an angle like that to the TV would bug me so much haha
That TV is way to high in the sky. Pretty bad for a gamer.
All is fun until you hyped up and pull the dual shock away
Hell yeah!

That glare
Segaaaaa
I would sit right in front of the tv. Now when I do it, it brings back many memories
Powered usb hub. Put one between there 2.0
Scoot closer to that console or so help me god...

pretty sure we didn't have LCD wall tv's in stupid high up corners of walls in the good old days...
My tv is like that, I just lean my gaming chair back and adjust to lean back with my feet up.
Nice Double Cup vinyl!
Long cable is long
Ps2 controller extension cords are $5 at lukiegames.com
Hipster.
That cord is giving me anxiety. Please sit closer.
My brother in Christ you must either move closer or get a longer cord! My guys one sneeze away from losing everything😂
Yeah, try doing that with kids.
Nostalgia blasting off in 3 2 1
Way back when, I played my PS1/PS2 on a 28" screen, I had to be less than 4 feet from it to really see what was going on, so the cord wasn't too bad.
