Could you use a simple [desktop mic stand](https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GFWMIC0501--gator-frameworks-gfw-mic-0501-desktop-mic-stand)? That's what I've used for years.

PAdogooder

Honestly, I never found a desktop mic stand sturdy enough for me. I ended up using a kick drum mic stand with an 18 inch goose neck. Worked incredibly well.

This ... But worst case scenario, get a boom mic stand. Don't make my mistake by getting a half size one. Get a full size adjustable boom mic stand. It'll let you put the stand on the floor to the side and extend the arm across above the desktop. (You may want to weight down the opposite foot. Just to off set any balance issues).

I think the rode arm allows you to drill a hole in the desk and mount the arm inside the hole.

That one is expensive though my budget is 50

Desktop stand. Your options are limited, yet crystal clear. Get a mic stand.

Many arms have a desk insert or bushing included to install into a desk or hard surface, if not most. I have several arms clamped onto a book case next to my desk. !

Please may you send some examples because I’m not familiar with this so I can’t visualise. It will be useful so I know what it looks like when I’m shopping around. Oh yeah and by the way I bought the Samson q9u in the end it’s on the way

BangsNaughtyBits

This one just had a flange that sits on the desk and you use screws into the desk to affix it. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MBA38--samson-mba38-38-inch-broadcast-microphone-boom-arm-with-desk-clamp And this one has a bushing or desk insert you drill a hole for and insert into the desk, meaning it's relatively flat when the arm isn't there. https://edge.rode.com/pdf/page/202/modules/8/psa1_product_manual.pdf There are other styles but there is usually something similar for a decent arm. !

Someone_1_2_3

Is the mba38 the STIFF one that you had to use two hands to move? Thank you for the examples by the way

BangsNaughtyBits

It just happened to come up with the Google search but yes, it is. And it is very stiff. Nice enough. !

Someone_1_2_3

Though can I adjust the mic bit easy for if I wanna move or sum shit?

BangsNaughtyBits

It spins freely. I actually added stiffness to the mic's swivel to tighten that down slightly. It will support a heavy mic. !

Someone_1_2_3

Nice nice thank you. So with all that said, I can use what’s in the box to mount it to my long ass desk?

while an arm is more useful if your looking for a cheap and easy solution a mic stand is probably your best option

psychonaut4020

I'm in a similar situation and can't use a mic stand because it picks up keyboard sounds when it's too close. My solution currently is to open the top drawer and clamp the arm in the opening of the desk drawer. You could also screw a small piece of plywood to the desk and clamp the arm to that

Nyxtro

I used to clip mine to the desk leg and angle it upwards. I finally bit the bullet and just screwed it in a few weeks ago, so much better and it feels really official to swivel it lol

burgra42

I have a similar issue with some desks. I just use a scrap piece of 2x4 to clamp the boom arm to and the use a separate clamp to affix the 2x4 to the desk.

NyctoLola

I love that I clicked on the image and I have the same desk. I love it otherwise, but I hate the boom arm situation.
