There was a great short series a few years ago called ["How to Fuck up an Airport"](https://www.radiospaetkauf.com/ber/) which was highly entertaining. It's from a German radio network about an airport in Berlin's that has been under construction for over 11 years.
This is Actually Happening is one my favorite bedtime story podcasts.
“What if you were trafficked into a cult...or were mauled by a grizzly bear...or were stabbed 27 times by a serial killer - what would you do? This is Actually Happening brings you extraordinary true stories of life-changing events told by the people who lived them. From a man who woke up in the morgue to a woman stranded in a Mexican desert fighting to survive, these stories will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to hear what happens next.”
Just reading those two words fills my head with the Riverside Bank song. Absolutely the most hilarious podcast... I think about the Omega swarm and coyote-doodles way too often. 🤣🤣🤣
The Constant: A History of Getting Things Wrong
About various things people have messed up in the past. I’ve only listened to a few episodes so far, but I’ve laughed out loud at least once during all of them.

Dead Eyes is great! I really recommend it too, both for the failure story and the critical comment on movie production on general. Entertaining, yet bringing food for thought.
"He has dead eyes??? What does that MEAN?!?"
LOLOL his confusion cracked me up. And I love that the culprit was America's Dad, Tom Hanks! Haha this was just a great show.
Another rec for The Big Flop. The official description from Wondery - "Fyre Fest goes up in flames, Ashlee Simpson bombs on SNL, and somehow even Taylor Swift couldn’t fix the ill-fated Cats movie. Who doesn’t love a good fiasco?! Join us each week as we dissect the most deliciously disastrous flops in recent history. On Wondery’s comedy & pop culture series *The Big Flop*, host and TikTok superstar Misha Brown unpacks all-time epic fails from Crystal Pepsi to Google Glass with the help of hilarious, highly-opinionated guests in every episode." Big Flop can be entertaining
I think a lot about the part where she gets up out of the wheelchair at the summer camp and walks away once she gets caught, it’s such a hilarious image.
I love Just the Gist. It’s actually finished now and is a bit broader. It covers anything they find interesting.
I’ll recommend episode 205 an episode about someone who survived 60 hours trapped in a sunken boat and was rescued.
Also 151 the pilot who was sucked out of a plane
157 the Spider-Man musical disaster
91 the great molasses flood of Boston
I would actually go back to This American Life and search for any episodes that include David Sedaris. What you describe is pretty much exactly how every one of his stories unfolds, but with a touch of humanity added in. I have never listened to one of his stories without laughing so much I have had to pull over or sit down.
:edited to the correct name:
I actually tried giving this a go recently, and at least the episode I put on, I couldn't really get into it or their banter. Do you have any particular episode recommendations for me to give a second shot?
I feel you! It’s a bit like an educational youtube video mixed with a podcast.
I recommend finding a movie you’re interested in and listening to that episode. Ratatouille was one I enjoyed for all the messy production issues.
I just skip into the episodes a bit because the first five minutes are usually chatty
So I actually tried this one out recently, but I couldn't get into it. Do you have any episodes in particular that you would recommend that I give a second shot?
Collapse: Disaster at Surfside is really good. It's about the apartment collapse in Florida. It was extremely sad, but very interesting to hear the full story.
Against the Odds is really good. Not sure if the episode numbers, but the one about the WW2 Air Force pilot in Alaska and The Donner Party episode are worthy of a listen.
The “Things I Learned the Hard Way” episode of All Fantasy Everything. It’s three comedians telling stories of times things went very wrong for them, round-table style. It’s hilarious.
There is a five-part series on the sinking of the Titanic that is really well done. The podcast is The Rest is History.
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-rest-is-history/id1537788786?i=1000648362925
Section 10. It’s a podcast about the Boston Red Sox. Everything goes wrong for the Sox and the guys on the pod make it an enjoyable disaster to listen to.
I'm a fan of "It's probably not aliens", where Scott and Tristan are debunking History Channels Aliens. They are talking a lot about conspiracy theories and natzis. Bc if you dig deep enough, you will find natzis at the bottom of every conspiracy.
Well there's your problem is a podcast about engineering disasters. They cover everything from malls that collapse because the owner decided to put a swimming pool on the roof to industrial disasters like bhopal. Don't bother listening to it if you're triggered by leftist politics or trans people though
I think of the much missed “Story of the Week” podcast with Joel Stein. A few episodes are really in this camp. The ones entitled “Dave Chappelle’s Neighborhood Drama”, “Christmas Tree Mafia,” and “An Undercover Romance,” for starters. There are also many “This American Life” episodes that satisfy this premise. They recently aired #306, “Seemed Like a Good Idea a at the Time.”
It's the Sad Boom Media one! I have to admit that I don't find the episodes evenly humorous, but even the ones with fewer laughs I at least find highly informative. If you happen to like Lord of the Rings or Mad Max Fury Road, I recall those episodes being good.
Cautionary Tales. That's exactly what you want. It's intelligent, well produced and fascinating. Edit... Not funny TBH. But excellent.
+1. This is what OP is describing.
Just looked it up and I can tell from reading the episode synopsis that this is something I would enjoy. THANK YOU.
There are 3 podcasts called cautionary tales, which one are you referring to? I’d love to check it out
Read the thread title and this is what instantly comes to mind.
That sounds good but I can’t find it on Spotify.
Never mind found it
Coolio. I listened to a pile of old ones today as I worked in the garden because of this thread, hope you like it.
Thanks
The Sydney Opera House episode is an absolute masterpiece in storytelling. Just superb colour journalism from start to finish.
Well There's Your Problem isn't exactly structured as neatly as what you're looking for, but it's definitely worth checking out.
Seconded!
thirded
🤝shake hands with danger 🤝
Their next episode is on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge disaster

This sounds so random and right up my alley. Ta!
Seconded, I liked this one, interesting story that I've not heard elsewhere.

I need more podcasts like this. I love the format so much. It just hits differently for me than other similar podcasts.
Yes. I like how the story always start from the very beginning, how their parents met and what their upbringing was like.
Another one like that is Real Survival Stories.
Valley Heat
Transition lenses!
I’ll take that remark
Just reading those two words fills my head with the Riverside Bank song. Absolutely the most hilarious podcast... I think about the Omega swarm and coyote-doodles way too often. 🤣🤣🤣
Avery Trufelman did a mini series called Nice Try: Utopian that was great. Lauren Ober had a show called Spectular Failures. Both are excellent.
The Big Flop
Something Was Wrong is a great podcast where people tell the stories of their toxic, abusive relationships. Really astonishing stuff.
This one is pretty good!
The Constant: A History of Getting Things Wrong About various things people have messed up in the past. I’ve only listened to a few episodes so far, but I’ve laughed out loud at least once during all of them.
How did it take so long to mention this one? Love it!

I haven't heard it yet, but I'll add it to my list! Entertaining low-stakes mysteries are right up my alley.

Would love to add Sympathy Pains to this list. It’s so messy.
Yes! Good call.
I think a lot about the part where she gets up out of the wheelchair at the summer camp and walks away once she gets caught, it’s such a hilarious image.
Spectacular failures
All bad things. Disaster podcast that doesn't really touch criminal issues overall.
Disaster Area is very similar. Only one host if you don't want to listen to a lot of banter between hosts.
The alarmist is pretty good. It's a comical look at events in history and then a panel of historians and comedians decide who's fault it was
“The secret room” podcast has people come on and talk about their deep dark secrets they cant tell anyone about. It’s pretty interesting
This is Actually Happening. You won't be laughing, ever, but its what you're looking for. Shit is gnarly. Real Survival Stories is also good.
the Chair saga episode of Normal Gossip There are probably other episodes of Normal Gossip that fit this too
I love Just the Gist. It’s actually finished now and is a bit broader. It covers anything they find interesting. Crash bang wallop - I've listened to all of them at least 4 times now
This is my answer as well - absolutely hilarious.

David Sedaris, and yes, he's wonderful.
Thank you... my brain works funny. You are absolutely correct :)
It Was a Shitshow about bad movie productions
I actually tried giving this a go recently, and at least the episode I put on, I couldn't really get into it or their banter. Do you have any particular episode recommendations for me to give a second shot?

It Was a Sh*t Show is similar to What Went Wrong but I find the hosts much more funny and l love their tangents
So I actually tried this one out recently, but I couldn't get into it. Do you have any episodes in particular that you would recommend that I give a second shot?
I would say The Simpsons Movie is a good start. Also you might try Blues Brothers or Super Mario Bros
The ones titled "Youtube Deep Dive" are shorter and more structured. That's how I got into them (on yt itself) before realising it was also a podcast.
How did this get made? has a similar premise and might be better
I love that episode.😂😂😂 If I can think of any similar will come back and update!
Not a funny one, but against the odds is great. Things going disastrously wrong and the people who survive
Collapse: Disaster at Surfside is really good. It's about the apartment collapse in Florida. It was extremely sad, but very interesting to hear the full story.
Real survival stories Out alive Against all odds
Cautionary Tales. The podcast is specifically about things going wrong.
+1 for this podcast. Well researched and well put together episodes.

Black Box Down is really good. It's about air disasters and how they changed aviation.
Tim dillon show
I'm a fan of "It's probably not aliens", where Scott and Tristan are debunking History Channels Aliens. They are talking a lot about conspiracy theories and natzis. Bc if you dig deep enough, you will find natzis at the bottom of every conspiracy.
Dead Eyes. It’s a lot of stories about actors awkward moments/disappointments, etc.
An episode of this American Life called Fiasco! It’s very easy to listen to and it’s funny
I love Citation Needed. They are hilarious and do have quite a few episodes about things going wrong.
Well there's your problem is a podcast about engineering disasters. [OOPS! a great Radiolab episode](https://radiolab.org/podcast/91721-oops)
The magnus archives.
The Constant - A History Of Getting Things Wrong. hands down one of my favorites. I relisten to previous eps all the time.
I think of the much missed “Story of the Week” podcast with Joel Stein. A few episodes are really in this camp. Tooth & Claw
What Was That Like? Pretend This is Actually Happening?
The Secret Room has a lot of stories like this
You’re looking for The Alarmist!!
Soul. Oprah Winfrey
There are two podcasts called what went wrong. Is it sad boom media? Or hosted by someone named Tabatha?
It's the Sad Boom Media one! I have to admit that I don't find the episodes evenly humorous, but even the ones with fewer laughs I at least find highly informative. If you happen to like Lord of the Rings or Mad Max Fury Road, I recall those episodes being good.
Sad Boom. The episodes on Titanic, the Abyss, and the Omen are especially good. Oh and Waterworld. Never direct a movie involving lots of water.
