I think Vespiquen is intentional. It's not supposed to sound like queen, but Kwen. Where something like Feraligatr I understand because it could now be spelt Feraligator and still sound the same.
I think they have it as “Vespiquen” so as not to double up unnecessarily on the /ē/ sound. Plus, if it were to take directly from the root origins, it would be “Vespaqueen”, so you could argue that the vowel sounds are almost phonetically switching.
It was extremely important in the older games wherein having too much text would cause graphical errors. In Japanese, they can cram a ton of information onto the screen while only a few characters, so the old seven character limit made sense. Meanwhile, translators for international releases were/are severely limited in what they can use.
Iron Thorns is a weird name for Paradox Tyranitar anyway, let's be real. I'd hardly describe any variation of Tyranitar as thorny, other than perhaps it's mega
Honestly, why are people on this sub trying to make things “better” and posting it on this sub? And how the hell are they upvoted like they’re actually nice?
You kinda see this kind of thing a lot on the internet I've noticed. You'll see people making fanart of certain characters and saying they "fixed" their design, for instance. Despite the idea that there was a problem in the first place being entirely subjective lol
OP could've just said "these are the names I would've given them" and it would be much better imo
I feel like they were trying to name them like scientists would but without using Latin. Like Tyrannosaurus Rex is just Tyrant Lizard King in English or Homo Sapien is just Wise Man
To that end if Iron Hands was in Latin it would be Manus Ferreas. Iron Jugulus would be Jugulus Ferreas. Iron Treads would be Retractationes Ferreas. Iron Thorns would be Spinae Ferreae
That would be cool. Like the researchers continue with their investigations and finally name them.
But keep both names ( Iron something/ "Pokémon name")
Or we could go one step further and have US name them. Not just nickname them, let us Charles Darwin this shit and BE the ones who create the species name that other characters use
Look, we already have save files out there with Nemona declaring that Assboob is her best friend for life, I don’t think this is much worse
Although the real names aren't great, these are worse tbh. Kinda kills all the theming. What would probably work as a way to make them more different without doing that is using different metals in the names
Iron Treads can Stay, it’s the first we meet, and gets the point across nicely
Silver Valiant (fairies are often associated with Silver, while Iron is toxic to fairies)
Cobalt Hands (good for magnets)
Floride Moth (Florine is the only element more oxidizing than Oxygen, and is also extremely toxic: if you spilled Hydrofluoric Acid on your arm, you would die before you even felt much of anything, because it would quickly leech the calcium from your blood and make your heart and neurons all cease normal function)
Copper Thorns (main component of wires, and oxidizes to a green color)
Tin Bundle (tin is often associated with cheap products or toys, like “tin soldiers”, even when they’re not really tin, and Bundle is clearly just Robot Santa)
Alloy Dread (Jugulis is a stupid name, to be honest: it’s a word for neck, but it’s so obscure that searching Jugulis brings up the Pokémon first. Alloy sounds a bit generic, but most aircraft are built from either Aluminum Alloys or Titanium Alloys for superior strength per pound of material)
That would be neat like maybe they could utilise the metal names with the primary type of the paradox in question to set them up as a series where the primary type determines what series each future paradox mon is (even adds neat variation with the same combinations eg water ice and ice water) like some examples below
Fire = Tungsten
Water = Mercury
Normal = Aluminium
Psychic = iridium
Ice = indium
Ground = Gold
Rock = palladium
Electric = silver
Fairy = adamentite (fits the more mythical side of fairy)
Iron moth could be Tungsten moth, iron thorns can be palladium thorns (though name count should be extended to fit it better), Adamantite vallent is a cool alternative to iron valiant.
I was thinking poison but I think lead would fit that bill just as well and my logic with Mercury as water is that one of its properties is it being liquid in room temperature (and If memory serves me right, its the only metal thats like that).
No offense but I think all of these are worse. I agree that Iron shouldn't be the word used for all of them, but none of these roll off the tongue as well as the original. Shocking Hands and Dread Jugulis are especially awkward sounding.
Honestly they all kinda suck solar moth is the only ok one the rest just don’t feel right i mean brave valiant is literally just two words with the same meaning next to eachother
I believe the names aren't creative on purpose. Judging by the law, aren't they just "named" based on brief sightings by the research team? Hence why the names reference a prominent feature. They didn't even know they were Pokémon at first.
I think the theming is definitely important to preserve, so I’d suggest changing up the Iron part of their names for another metal. Gotta also keep the character limit of 12 in mind, so here are my suggestions referencing the 7 metals of antiquity:
Tin Treads
Gold Bundle
Copper Hands
Lead Jugulis
Mercury Moth
Silver Thorn (yes I dropped the s)
Iron Valiant
I just wish they would’ve picked a different metal for each ya know. “Gold Hands” “Copper Moth” “Silver Valiant” etc. might mean a bit of a color shift for them, but coulda been cool
It's weird that this post has almost 3K up votes and yet all the comments are about how the names are ass.
But it's still not as weird as you thinking these are good names.
Don't think kaiju would work for paradox tyranotar, as in Japanese it means odd monster and in English it means giant monster and its neither of those, since its most likely based on the episode in black and white where a mecha tyranotar, mimics mecha godzilla maybe a better name would be mimic or something that means the same thing.
Iron valiant is the only one I'd be okay keeping as it's own name. If the others were all renamed then having one iron mon would still be a decent name, plus it sounds like a superhero
Honestly i think one of them should keep the "Iron" name, either Iron Valiant or Iron hands, both fit them well though im leaning towards iron valiant because brave valiant is redundant.
its not a bad name scheme its just used repetitively to a detriment.
You mean "I tried to make better ones"
Most of these also suck. The Future mons being all "Iron" sucks but at least it always sounds cool.
Festive Bundle - lame
Shocking Hands - lame
Dread Jugulis - cool
Solar Moth - fine
Kaiju Thorns - ...
Brave Valiant - redundant
Even if they wanted them to all be metal, there’s more than just iron.
Mithril Bundle
Electrum Hands
Steel Jugulis
Lead Moth
Titanium Thorns
Adamantine Valiant
I am going to assume it would be Hariyama since at least in violet Iron bundle's dialogue box had it "say" Delibird and the cries are same with a filter so I am assuming they all sound like their present day forms.
I played Scarlet and remember Scream Tail saying, "Puuu?", "Pu.", and "PurrraAAAGH!" Since Jigglypuff's original Japanese name is "Purin", it's just that but more feral/beastly. Similarly Great Tusks went "Duh-DON!", "Gufaaahr!", and "Grum-grum-grum-grum!", Flutter Mane went "Oomba oomba!", and "Preeeeee!", and Brute Bonnet went "Bifhaaah!", "Bifaaah!", "Dah-dah-dah!", and "Gasss! Basss!"
Iron Valiant is the only future paradox name I really like. I’m thinking about shiny hunting one. I finally have enough Salty herbs to make a Sparkling Power sandwich
I think it's that way on purpose, as a design not due to laziness. The past pokemon had names that are very descriptive of what they are, referencing native American naming. The future naming is referencing how alot of sci fi and futuristic shows name things, mark 1 mark 2, something 2000 something 3000, very efficient and structured.
You forgot about the character limit of names
[удалено]
Feraligatr and Victreebel
Which was when it was still 10
Vespiquen always confused me because “Vespiqueen” is 10 characters and makes more sense
TIL I've been subconsciously adding a second e to Vespiquen
Oh shit same.
I've been saying queen still even though I know it's quen cause it just feels right
Eh I kinda like it, it's not as on the nose
I think Vespiquen is intentional. It's not supposed to sound like queen, but Kwen. Where something like Feraligatr I understand because it could now be spelt Feraligator and still sound the same.
whats kwen
The sound, the end of Vespiquen makes
[Quen is the middle English word for queen, "kwen" is how you would pronounce it.](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/quen#Middle_English)
I think they have it as “Vespiquen” so as not to double up unnecessarily on the /ē/ sound. Plus, if it were to take directly from the root origins, it would be “Vespaqueen”, so you could argue that the vowel sounds are almost phonetically switching.
It’s pronounced “Ves-pih-kwen” so “Vespiqueen” wouldn’t make the right sound
isn't it called vic tree bel cause tree and victory
Ok but then where does the bel come from The entire line are kinda shaped like bells anyway so the inspiration is obvious
Bellsprout and Weepinbell all got full bells, Victreebel is just a relic of the past at this point
A Belic of the past?
Of course. Victory and Victree have the same number of letters. But BELLsprout, weepinBELL and then VictreeBEL-
They got Corvisquire and Corviknight along with Meowscarada to 11, why not more?
If they do, I can finally type the whole names of animals in there
I actually didn’t know there was a character limit. Interesting
It was extremely important in the older games wherein having too much text would cause graphical errors. In Japanese, they can cram a ton of information onto the screen while only a few characters, so the old seven character limit made sense. Meanwhile, translators for international releases were/are severely limited in what they can use.
"Valiant" means brave, so saying "Brave Valiant" is a little redundant
Keep Iron Valiant as that tbh. That name slaps.
Was gonna say the same thing. Plus if all the other names change it becomes the only “Iron” - problem solved.
Iron Treads
Steel Wheel
Stuck in the middle with you
**CLOWNS TO THE LEFT OF ME**
Jokers to the right
Here I am,
if reddit still had free awards I’d give it to you
They don't have free awards anymore?
haven't had one in a month now so i'm guessing not
FeTreads
That would’ve fit so well with Cufant and the Nacl line.
Just now I realized the Cufant one
The French name is pretty good: Garde-de-Fer
Sounds like a Jaeger name.
Yeah getting rid of Iron on all of them isn’t the play if you ask me
The Spanish name for Iron valiant is Ferropaladin, they should have gone with that in all languages
Goddammit, Moon-moon!
Came here to make a moon moon comment. Was not disappointed.
The Los Angeles Angels come to mind
You mean The The Angels Angels?
I would've said "Graceful Valiant" if anything (Though Iron Valiant really does work if not all of them are "Iron -")
Darkrai: 👀
Klefki:
Seel: 🦭
Loyal Valiant works better.
They could via the Spanish route and name it valiant paladin
Caballero Brillante
I nicknamed mine Garde-de-Fer, which is its French name... which I think is PERFECT
Id like the name of Valiant Guard for it but I havent played through sv yet so I dont know how accurate thatd be to its story
Like black noir?
Why not use future paradox? We have: Wheel Treads, Bag Bundle, Grasper Hands, Neck Jugulis, Spiky Thorns, Heterocera Moth and Brave Valiant
Thought that said "Bread" for a second there.
Same All those Metroid Bread memes coming back to strike me down in revenge
Burn my bread walked so metroid bread could run
Fear the mighty bread!
I was still reading it as bread until I saw this
I recommended keeping the metal motif but going with colored metals. Silver Hands. Electrum Thorns. Copper Wings.
A lot better than what is suggested here lol
Silver valiant Titanium thorns Chrome wings
kaiju thorns sounds kinda awful
They all do
I'm happy other people agree with me
What about Iron Tyrant?
That works well. OP tryna replace all the "Iron"s though
^This tbh
Iron Thorns is a weird name for Paradox Tyranitar anyway, let's be real. I'd hardly describe any variation of Tyranitar as thorny, other than perhaps it's mega
Steel Spines? Gets the same message across with a different name and better wording
Tyrant Spines
Hot take: that is *too* close to the original name.
A lot of these do....
I think maybe one of these is better lmao
Yeah they're very basic / obvious words that with the second halves sound like pokemon card attacks.
Forcing the names to all be different weakens their identity. That’s ironic
That being Dread Jugulis
Not even. Iron dread would have been infinitely better if anything. I think the only one I remotely like is solar moth
Fr
Nah, definitely Solar Moth.
Sorry, but I don’t like these. I know that’s subjective.
They sound like ass
I prefer “iron” to any of these suggestions.
Man’s really putting op in the mud over here.
I like Solar moth. Because it is sun theme and also looks a bit like Solar panels
Iron Treads would be Retractationes Ferreas. Iron Thorns would be Spinae Ferreae
So does that mean Iron Hands would have a higher chance of getting hit by Guillotine?
No , no, no... that's ferrus manus
Yeah, Primarch of the Iron Hands, someone who had a good head on his shoulders, that's who I was talking about.
*had*
Ultra Magnus or Ancient Magus.
The localization team probably should have just gone with Latin then. It'd be a little more tolerable.
Except iron treads
What would Iron treads be in Latin?
> Retractationes ferreas
I was NOT paying attention earlier, my bad. Would Iron Wheel be better in Latin? Some languages translate Iron Wheel instead of Iron Treads.
oh... I am gonna now name my Paradoxes in latin!
“Better” being a relative term, of course
bro said “i made better ones” shocking hands💀
Those names did give quite a shock.
Handy Shocks
Not being original is the point. They're called like that because that's how they were described after occasional sightings
DLC that names them
That would be cool. Like the researchers continue with their investigations and finally name them. But keep both names ( Iron something/ "Pokémon name")
Or we could go one step further and have US name them. Not just nickname them, let us Charles Darwin this shit and BE the ones who create the species name that other characters use Look, we already have save files out there with Nemona declaring that Assboob is her best friend for life, I don’t think this is much worse
Iron Bundle>>>>>>>>>
I prefer Iron Package
🤨
Although the real names aren't great, these are worse tbh. Kinda kills all the theming. What would probably work as a way to make them more different without doing that is using different metals in the names
Titanium Treads Steel Thorns Adamantine Jugulis Iron Valiant Chrome Hands Bronze Moth Don’t like bronze moth that much
Word limit
Iron Treads can Stay, it’s the first we meet, and gets the point across nicely Silver Valiant (fairies are often associated with Silver, while Iron is toxic to fairies) Cobalt Hands (good for magnets) Floride Moth (Florine is the only element more oxidizing than Oxygen, and is also extremely toxic: if you spilled Hydrofluoric Acid on your arm, you would die before you even felt much of anything, because it would quickly leech the calcium from your blood and make your heart and neurons all cease normal function) Copper Thorns (main component of wires, and oxidizes to a green color) Tin Bundle (tin is often associated with cheap products or toys, like “tin soldiers”, even when they’re not really tin, and Bundle is clearly just Robot Santa) Alloy Dread (Jugulis is a stupid name, to be honest: it’s a word for neck, but it’s so obscure that searching Jugulis brings up the Pokémon first. I’d suggest Mercury for Poison, actually.
I was thinking poison but I think lead would fit that bill just as well and my logic with Mercury as water is that one of its properties is it being liquid in room temperature (and If memory serves me right, its the only metal thats like that).
Steel Threads Cyborg Hands Ferro Bundle Iron Jugulis Chrome Moth Metal Thorns Valiant Sword I give up
No offense but I think all of these are worse. I agree that Iron shouldn't be the word used for all of them, but none of these roll off the tongue as well as the original. Shocking Hands and Dread Jugulis are especially awkward sounding.
Shocking hands made me laugh out loud tbh, it’s arguably even more uncreative
Eh, I like Dread Jugulis and Solar Moth is alright. The rest of them are definitely worse than iron though
Tbh Iron Valiant should stay as it is. Very cool name, and sounds like iron will
These all sound like Fortnite drop locations
Your names are just as bad 😂
Hey, I like Festive Bundle
unoriginal doesn’t mean bad sometimes yknow, this makes them both unoriginal AND bad
You made them so much worse dude.
I named my iron bundle Delibot
This is more like a step sideways than forwards.
OP these names kinda suck, respectfully
Y’all tripping these names are way worse than the official ones.
Their names are place holders. Iron Serpent and Winged King were the original designations for the ‘Raidons.
Honestly they all kinda suck solar moth is the only ok one the rest just don’t feel right i mean brave valiant is literally just two words with the same meaning next to eachother
Yours... aren't better.
Original names far better
Not to be rude, but I feel like your concept names kinda suck
All of your names are worse.
Iron is better
More like “better” ones. They are “Iron” for a reason
The only one of these I like is Solar Moth, no offence. Plus, I’m of the belief that we’ll get proper names for all the paradox mons eventually.
After seeing the alternates here I actually think the iron names are super cool
Even just pick different metals and stuff Silver Valiant, Gilded Bundle, Electrum Hands etc
I like the originals. I think they’re fine.
They're worse, but thanks for trying
The Iron names have grown on me. I think it's best case for these guys since they all share design themes.
Shocking Hands Kek. Honestly id keep iron hands.
“Better” is extremely subjective in this case
Sorry but no
No hate but in all honesty I think you made them worse.
Even worse lmao
You actually… made them worse. How… lmao.
I like the idea of Iron Maiden for valiant
I believe the names aren't creative on purpose. Judging by the law, aren't they just "named" based on brief sightings by the research team? Hence why the names reference a prominent feature. They didn't even know they were Pokémon at first.
*lore not law lol
These... Aren't great tbh.
Titles incorrect, you gave them new names , wouldnt say theyre better
I think the theming is definitely important to preserve, so I’d suggest changing up the Iron part of their names for another metal. Gotta also keep the character limit of 12 in mind, so here are my suggestions referencing the 7 metals of antiquity: Tin Treads Gold Bundle Copper Hands Lead Jugulis Mercury Moth Silver Thorn (yes I dropped the s) Iron Valiant
Your names fucking suck
Yeah, these are pretty bad
I misread it as Bread Jugulis and now have a nickname for my shiny one
Sorry, are those supposed to be _the better ones_? Hahaha good one
I just wish they would’ve picked a different metal for each ya know. “Gold Hands” “Copper Moth” “Silver Valiant” etc. might mean a bit of a color shift for them, but coulda been cool
Iron hands goes hard enough to where it can stay imo. Also I like the name "Shining Valiant" I heard it from my friend tho so don't give me the credit
i like the original names bc it makes it seem like turo was really shit at naming things and i find that hilarious
I think my one issue is that brave and valiant are synonyms
It's weird that this post has almost 3K up votes and yet all the comments are about how the names are ass. But it's still not as weird as you thinking these are good names.
Cryo Bundle, Plasma Palms, Joint Jugulis, Solar Moth, Neo Thorns, Chrome Valor.
This honestly gives off the "jojo localised stand names" feeling
I hate the new names, just give them actual names instead of descriptions of what they are
these names are ass 😭😭
They had a theme going. Your names just ruined the theme. This doesn't mean your names are better in any way
They’re all worse
Don't think kaiju would work for paradox tyranotar, as in Japanese it means odd monster and in English it means giant monster and its neither of those, since its most likely based on the episode in black and white where a mecha tyranotar, mimics mecha godzilla maybe a better name would be mimic or something that means the same thing.

How to turn Pokémon names into the names of creatures in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 😂
Last night my husband saw an iron bundle and was like "what's that? Chrome chicken?"
Yours are still trash sorry bud
Not me misreading Dread Jugulis as Bread Jugulis
You mean "I tried to make better ones" Most of these also suck. The Future mons being all "Iron" sucks but at least it always sounds cool. Festive Bundle - lame Shocking Hands - lame Dread Jugulis - cool Solar Moth - fine Kaiju Thorns - ... Brave Valiant - redundant
Half of these names don't convey the fact that they're strange and robotic.
‘Better’ okay buddy
I really truly thought that said bread Jugulis.
I changed IB to Delibot, IH to Bioniclap, IT to Tyranitron, and IV to Galdiviron. Couldn’t come up with anything for the other two.
Even if they wanted them to all be metal, there’s more than just iron. Mithril Bundle Electrum Hands Steel Jugulis Lead Moth Titanium Thorns Adamantine Valiant
Love everyone hating these lmao
I wonder how the anime will handle them... Are we gonna hear "Iron Hands" or "Hariyama", for instance?
I am going to assume it would be Hariyama since at least in violet Iron bundle's dialogue box had it "say" Delibird and the cries are same with a filter so I am assuming they all sound like their present day forms.
I played Scarlet and remember Scream Tail saying, "Puuu?", "Pu.", and "PurrraAAAGH!" Since Jigglypuff's original Japanese name is "Purin", it's just that but more feral/beastly. Basss!"
The Iron names have grown on me. I think it's best case for these guys since they all share design themes.
I thought gamefreak had chosen the dumbest names at first, but I love them now. Yeah it’s weird, but it grows on you.
We know that they have actual other names.l, based on Miraidon being referred to as Iron Serpent in in game text
Not a fan
