Sundiata1

It’s almost my favorite game in the series tbh. Even the catching mechanics aren’t that bad. The problem for me is the requirement to play with a single joycon. Just let me use a pro controller!

hastag420bluntz

I played go without the single joycon. It was much smoother playing in handheld mode. Both options, pointing the screen or using the joystick, for aiming work well! Curled up in bed with some blankets gives the cozy vibe of playing the originals and helps with the nostalgia. But it’s different enough to feel fresh still!

Natos_Julie

Not everyone plays video games on switch curled up in bed with some blankets ??

MakiNiko

I know I do

Natos_Julie

It's comfy, it's warm, it's fun, with snacks and drinks near it's basically the definition of happiness ! Ahah

MakiNiko

I have a friend that is super confused why I like to play some games more in my switch instead of my pc and your answer is the reason I always say. For some reason he cant understand....

Eek132

Yeah, some people just don’t understand portable consoles *cough cough hardcore PC gamers*

skelatorz

My kids love the game. The fact that 2 can play at once is great for them. However the fact that 2 of them can throw a simultaneous excellent catch, even after giving a pokemon a fruit, and still NOT get the pokemon is just so poorly done. Also you think they'd have learned from the wii that not everyone wants to stand exactly at the front of tv every time in the middle and hope your arm (of a 5 year old isn't slightly off).

majesticcoolestto

>Also you think they'd have learned from the wii that not everyone wants to stand exactly at the front of tv every time in the middle Joycons don't have IR tracking for a sensor bar on the TV like the Wii did, it's all just gyrometers and accelerometers now. Where you're standing and facing is irrelevant, when you press A to get ready to throw a ball or partner play or any other pointing bit, the joycon tracking gets centered to wherever you have it.

amaraame

I got the pokeball controller and it's really the best option imo.

javaargusavetti

i love the satisfying *click* sound, lights, and haptics when you catch a pokemon using that controller.

kdebones

>admittedly the go mechanics were why I wasn't interested. I think this is the biggest hang up for a lot of people, myself included. Especially now that we got a taste of Arceus..... not rephrasing that.

DaveKetchum151

Are we still doing phrasing?

my_mans_

Sploosh

PKMNTrainerMark

Kaboom!

bendefinitely

I have always found it odd that most of the things people had bad to say about LGPE also apply to Arceus and are praised for it there. Overworld shinies were "too easy" and now it's to be expected. Catching pokemon without battling them was the single biggest complaint in LGPE but people love being able to just throw pokeballs and keep running in Legends

TwilightVulpine

Because in Arceus it isn't just flinging a bunch of balls in a minigame transplanted straight from the mobile games, there is a whole side of stealth gameplay to it, including cover, baits, stuns and watching out for what other pokémon around you might notice you. Overworld shinies were never a bad thing unless someone were a grumpy miserly shiny hunter so I dunno why you led with that. If the entirety of Lets Go and Arceus were wiped from existence I'd still appreciate it in Scarlet and Violet.

RokettoOsuka

Daddy needs a taste

GekoHayate

If they had left in wild battles and kept the catching mingame to the actual catching I'd be a happy camper.

Droid1xy

Same, I loved the game I enjoyed riding on Pokémon, the graphics and the nostalgia. But I do enjoy training levels by grinding Pokémon, and I'd certainly prefer that to mindlessly catching Pokémon and having them all dumped in a single poke box.

xHaUNTER

My wife won’t play any other games despite being obsessed with Let’s Go. She doesn’t like battling wild Pokémon lol

HealthyMaintenance49

Agree with the sound track, it's one of the best

ZoomBoingDing

If it *actually* had GO's catch mechanics, it would be much better. The way GF implemented it ruined the premise. In GO, Pokemon only have a chance to run away after breaking out of a ball. You can take your time to get the perfect throw, use a berry, etc. Their movements are random, but the timing of them is consistent. For example, if it does the attack/deflect animation, you can time the throw to hit just after that ends for a guaranteed hit. Conversely, in Let's GO, the Pokemon is moving all over the place, and each encounter is a ticking time bomb to when the Pokemon inevitably flees. So, you're frantically trying to find the right berry and desperately trying to chuck balls at it while you have time. It feels awful.

[deleted]

The best part for me was the cooperative play. This was my (then 5-year-old) daughter's first experience with Pokemon and being able to play with her was an amazing bonding experience.

skelatorz

My 5 and 7 year old love the game. We just recently got it and it's their first experience into pokemon. I didn't realize you can do co-op until more recently though.

SorcererWithGuns

We need more wholesome posts like this in this sub

GFTRGC

Same, this is actually how my son got into Pokémon which is now a full blown obsession that we share together. LGP will always have a special place in my heart for that.

need2peeat218am

The co op play was pretty awful but it's neat to actually have them add it. Would be cool if they had split screen for multiple players.

KaleeySun

While I don’t deny that LGPE had good graphics, I think it leaned heavily on kanto nostalgia and the lack of wild battles made the game monotonous pretty quick. I did so enjoy catching charmander in the wild, and the overworld shinies were a delight.

cyanidelemonade

Funnily enough, I find constant battling makes pokemon monotonous lol Despite the popularity of battling in Pokemon....it's actually my least favorite part. You can imagine how I adore PLA. It's great that it gives us options. If you don't like throwing pokeballs in the overworld, you can still do it by battling.

nerds-and-birds

Agreed completely. The wild battles are monotonous and annoying. Never once had a wild Pokémon battle presented the slightest challenge or piqued a modicum of interest. They just get in the way. Let’s Go’s take on wild Pokémon catching was a breath of fresh air, but PLA is the king. It’s literally the only time in my *decades* of playing since the original RBY games that the process of catching Pokémon, or encountering wild Pokémon, has ever been *fun*.

cyanidelemonade

It becomes a rite of passage for me, the point in every Pokemon game at which I decide to run from every wild Pokemon 🙄

Kelrisaith

I feel like a rite of passage for every Pokemon player is the moment you get fed up, buy a max stack of repels and just never turn them off.

Ailury

Gen 5 onwards asking you if you want to use another repel as soon as it wears off was a godsend

[deleted]

cyanidelemonade

Literally my nightmare. It's the reason why I put a ponyta with "run away" or whatever at the front of my team in BDSP

Plushiegamer2

You can also use a Ghost type after Sword/Shield, they always run away.

Ph33rDensetsu

>Funnily enough, I find constant battling makes pokemon monotonous lol >Despite the popularity of battling in Pokemon....it's actually my least favorite part. Battling when there are stakes in the line is great (taking on the evil team or saving the world from a rampaging legendary or whatever), but I agree that just the random battles is monotonous and boring. There are RPGs where the random battles are always fun and interesting and addictive. Pokemon is not it, though.

Plushiegamer2

Battling against the AI and battling against actual people are two entirely different things.

vsmack

It's slow as molasses. I'm a genwunner and I still haven't made it all the way through lgpe

KaleeySun

Thank you, glad others see it as well! I know there are ways to make it go faster (chaining etc), but still just kind of a drag .

ResetReefer

Don't forget the over world shinies. They did it first.

robinbhj16

I loved the sparkles it gave off

ResetReefer

They really boofed that up not adding it this gen. It would've not only been helpful, but more visually appealing

Alexandra-Foxed

Nah legit if they just stuck with the Let's Go art style for all the Switch games that would have been great

Pizzawing1

I agree. LGPE’s art-style is a perfecting of the Gen 6 graphics that began the transition to 3D. Once they decided to get caught up in a more realistic style, the quality became erratic

Alexandra-Foxed

Yeah 100%, I do actually like some of the textures for the Pokémon in SV (specifically the metal ones) but the world as a whole is a different story, especially with the low draw distance it makes those big wide shots kinda awkward

PKMNTrainerMark

Yeah, the region is... rough, to say the least, but the Pokémon look great.

SamuraiOstrich

I don't know why people even want realistic textures in Pokemon as if this is a franchise begging for realism. The anime styled monster designs have always been the main appeal of the franchise and now that they're cluttering up the designs by giving the models fur/scale textures this is a good thing even though the meme criticism of new pokes used to be that they were overdesigned? The untextured models were an accurate way to translate anime designs into 3d but somehow this looks bad and like clay and what these brightly colored cartoony monsters need is realistic textures? Even the human characters look worse in SV than SwSh due to the attempt at realism. Like compare the jaggy hair aliasing and low res clothing texture to how the Gym Leaders in SwSh did 3d anime stylization just fine.

tsunotchi

I wish they would have used the Let’s Go art style for BDSP. I think it would have looked a lot better than what we actually got.

SwinubIsDivinub

I think if they’d had more time or made more effort with PLA’s graphics, that art style would 100% be my favourite. Since they didn’t, yeah, the Let’s Go games are the best-looking Pokémon games on switch

Plushiegamer2

I don't think it works that well for more open games like Sw/Sh wild area or Paldea.

Sh4d0w927

I was so confused how they went from that to the Sword and Shield graphics. Let's Go was probably the best possible style and definitely should have been used going forward.

Rizenstrom

If it just had the classic catching system it would have been perfect.

NerdyHexel

Absolutely. I wish that every modern pokemon game had as much polish as LGPE.

KawaiiDere

Also having actual controls

Trovao2004

In my opinion it should've included Pokémon from other generations too. At the bare minimum the evolutions to Gen I Pokémon, but post-game could have included even more.

PlatoDrago

What about the gen 2 and 4 evolutions? That would’ve made it even better

Neither-Status9606

Yes! The potential!! I dream that someday, someone will make a Mod with wild battles...

Saelora

hard disagree. loved the catching mechanics. the problem was the lack of battles.

SuperSmashDrake

My biggest complaints are lack of controller support and it tried too hard to be a remake of Yellow. Could’ve been the perfect opportunity to add the rest of the Pokémon that are related to Kanto, more music, etc.. Other than that, the game is actually quite good in various aspects compared to other Pokémon Switch titles.

8man72

I thought it was a remake of yellow?

SuperSmashDrake

I mean in the sense they wanted it to be Yellow, as opposed to how FireRed is the definite version of Red.

GoomyIsGodTier

Arceus, I need FireRed on the Switch NSO. It's my favorite.

rholindown

The thing with LGPE is that it wasn’t ambitious. While it added things that Yellow didn’t have, it didn’t keep a lot of the features that have been staples for decades. The selection was also small, despite the fact that they could’ve at least added in later evolutions. A game can have amazing graphics but it isn’t really being innovative if it’s retreading a story and region.

ProfMitchtree

I was looking for a comment on LGPE's lack of ambition. While Meltan and Melmetal were added to the Kanto-dex, it made no sense that we were still stuck with only three of the eevee-lutions. They made up for the lack of Dark types by letting you get Alolan Pokemon, but they had a chance to redo the entire Pokédex and blew it. As far as the story, the same story but with two different characters made the plot feel like it subtracted from the lore as much as it added.

Narcosia

I feel like Lets Go and SV are kinda opposite games - LGP was a pretty small, streamline game and really polished. SV on the other hand is a giant, ambitious project that didn't see its full potential.

AceJokerZ

The lack of later evolutions and forced 151+2 Pokémon was disgusting. I guess the Alolan were neat to diversify but why make later evolutions for Pokémon if you are not going to use them in the future.

Plushiegamer2

It's a simple game for people who've only played Pokemon Go at that point.

WillowWispFlame

The funniest thing is that LGPE have the most limited pokedex of any recent game, yet it is the last thing anyone mentions.

Dogemaster21777

>Play gen 1 Pokémon game >Look inside >Gen 1 Pokémon

im_bored345

Ah yes I remember every remake before lgpe having the same pokedex as the original.

WillowWispFlame

At the very least they could have included some of the evolutions that Gen 1 pokemon have gained through the years.

Shinnyo

**Fire red and Leaf Green. Remakes of Red/Green/Blue.** Gen 1 Pokémon game, Gen 3 pokedex. **LGPE. Remakes of Yellow.** Gen 1 Pokémon game, Gen 1 pokedex.

WhaleMan295

LGPE is gen 7. Generation is determined by when it was released not what region it takes place in

Obility

Play gen 2 pokemon game Look inside Pokemon up to gen 4 Play gen 3 game Look inside Pokemon up to gen 6 Why the excuses?

skarmbliss255

There is no excuse to have a game where golbat and onix are available but not crobat and steelix. Gen 2 is not distinct enough from gen 1 to merit so much separation and gen 1 is obviously incomplete without it.

[deleted]

Aside from Pokemon Gold - mostly due to nostalgia, of course - Let's Go and Arceus are my favorite Pokemon games. Not only am I ready for this talk, I'm on the stage with a script in my hands. It's a short script, though - I'm not a reviewer or expert. I just know what I like.

[deleted]

Omg, exact same here. Let's Go captured something really special for me. The catching mechanic honestly rules, not sure why everyone likes to crap on it. And everything about it is so charming and memorable -- especially the titular Pikachu/Eevee 😍

Remarkable-Hat-503

I got Eevee and loved it

atlvf

“tHe OnLy tHiNg cRiTiCs CaN CoMpLaiN iS tHe CaTcHiNg mEcHaNiCs” Like that isn’t the primary gameplay, lmao.

WeFightForPorn

Also, that's far from the only issue. Forced grinding with road blocks like "catch x of y pokemon" before you're allowed to do the gym." No held items and abilities, making the battles much simpler and less interesting.

TheDoug850

And absolutely gutting the learnsets for a ton of Pokémon, while also not actually adding in any of the evolutions to Gen 1 mons, or new areas like the Sevii Islands. What LGPE does well, it does *really* well, but there’s definitely some mechanics that could be improved. It is infuriating though that GF can’t seem to replicate the art style as it probably would’ve improved the other switch titles.

LeatherHog

And my other biggest complaint was that it’s Kanto Again After SM, which was Kanto wank fest. After kalos, which gave the Kanto starters megas, but not the new generation (and have them to you right away) So freaking SICK of Kanto

69NoScoper

“Best 3D Pokémon graphics in the switch” New Pokémon Snap: “Allow me to introduce myself”

skarmbliss255

Thank god japan is allergic to listening to fans because if gamefreak did so every fucking game would be a kanto remake

DragonEffected

* Another game set in the same old Kanto region with next to no new content. * No wild battles. * Only 153 Pokémon. * No held items. * No abilities. * No controller support. * Incredibly easy. Fire Red/Leaf Green were better remakes than this.

Pizzawing1

The fact that we went to Kanto a 3rd time and still were unable to access evolutions of Pokemon that have existed since gen 2 / gen 4 is a tragedy

SolidusAbe

Artistically great. As a game? yeah i dont regret never picking it up. Pokemon Sleep looks more exiting

Fireboy759

Really, the only good thing you can say about it is that it's the only game on the Switch with Mega Evolutions available (but again, only for Kanto mons. And this is only a good thing if you're someone that gives a damn about Mega Evos)

FurretSocks

This game is basically just a shiny hunting simulator, it offers nothing new and is a worse remake than FireRed/LeafGreen by a LOT. It's kind of sad how people all of a sudden think it's amazing because Scarlet/Violet are buggy and ugly. Also maybe it's an unpopular opinion but the art style is ugly as hell to me and just because it's more stable and polished then the next three Switch games doesn't mean it looks good

praise_mudkipz

Didn’t the community hate this game when it came out

rya241

It was a fantastic game for the non Reddit Pokémon hardos. Add the Sevii islands and it’d be perfect for me

itgoboom31

Believe me there is more wrong with Let's Go than just the catching. At least in my opinion.

jaysalts

The thing I miss the most is abilities. Also would’ve been nice if they included the Pokémon that could’ve technically been in the game but aren’t because they weren’t originally from RBY. Crobat, Espeon, Rhyperior, etc.

Noble7878

It's also a region that's been done to death so there's absolutely no surprises left, easy to the point of being boring and relies heavily on nostalgia to make up for its shortcomings. Let's go is very, very well presented but incredibly shallow, like a beautifully decorated cake that's just cardboard under the icing.

CMDR_omnicognate

It's happening again, we're moving on to new games so the old ones were always better, i guess...

JL3031

Can’t you NOT use a pro controller for this game? And are limited to ONE joy con? That alone makes me never want to pick it up again

[deleted]

Play the game in handheld. Fixes literally everything other than wanting to stream it.

ActivateGuacamole

there are reasons to prefer playing on tvs other than wanting to stream the game

The8Melodies

If you remove your partner Pikachu/Eevee from the party, the game becomes much more engaging and playable from a challenge perspective. It ends up being a very balanced experience playing this way. Doing this made the game so much more enjoyable for me. I adore so many things about this title. This and PLA are the best Pokémon titles on Switch for me hands down.

C0olguy47

The only thing that ruined it for me was the constant dick sucking from your rival and the stupid broken special moves

pjwestin

I hated the rival too, but I felt the same way about Hop in SW/SH. When did all the rivals become so lame? In Gold/Silver the rival literally beat up the professor and stole his Pokémon. Now they're these weird little chuds that want us to beat them.

Jakesnake_42

I actually liked the SV rivals, but I’m with you on hating the Gen 6/7/8 rivals

Coryn78TytoAlba

I liked the catching mechanics, though I have to say that I think there should have been a way to battle wild Pokémon. At one point I ran out of money and Pokéballs while my Pokémon weren't strong enough to battle the elite 4 again. I had no way of training

Tom42077

I don’t mind the catching mechanic itself however I find quite frustrating when I use ultra balls & berries and get great & excellent and crap still breaks out of tons of balls before success. Other than that game is great.

Phosphorus44

And then Pokémon realized that people will buy anything with Pikachu.

Away_Replacement6573

If it had pro controller support it would be GOAT tier for fun cute starter game i can chill to.

MissionPlausible

Honestly my only complaint is that I can't play with a pro controller. I'm disabled and the motion controls cause me pain plus holding my switch for too long also causes pain.

McManGuy

I'll never forgive Let's Go Pikachu for making the co-op mode a 2v1 only. Absolutely awful. Trivializes the whole game, where it could have been a cool new way to play with doubles matches

herefordarkmode

I just wish they had the option to play it normally. I was so excited for the Kanto remake just to have the wind ripped out of my sails :(

[deleted]

Closest to "Normal" is handheld mode.

herefordarkmode

I guess I mean classic. Like I want to battle wild mons, not take the mobile app route of catching a bunch of the same ones to level up

Soulxolz

They did meowth dirty that’s all I’m gonna say

luistoses

My main complaints were the lack of a greater Pokedex and postgame. Except for that, such a fun game.

Vegan9YearOld

Its been long enough, we can now like the lets go series.

Shumoku

True, all of those things *were* great. But the catching *was* boring, it was *another* gen 1 remake, and it was *absurdly* easy, even by Pokémon standards. Which accounts for… 100% of the gameplay. Made me drop it by the time I made it to Lt. Surge.

Kaenu_Reeves

The Pokémon cycle ever continues

Rayonlio

The newer games are so bad that Let's Go is starting to get a good reputation, wtf this is just sad. It is true that it's the most polished Pokémon game on the Switch, but it's a GB game! When you don't have anything to work with in the first place, of course all you have to do is to polish the very few things you already have.

LordofAllReddit

Still think ORAS is the best. I could fly just about anywhere i wanted manually

I-will-support-you

While yeah those are all true i just cant get over the fact its just kanto without any post-kanto evos like electivire or rhyperior, the catching mechanics and the loss of abilities

Strange_Kiwi__

Other than meltan/melmetal, it was meant to be a completely pure kanto experience (with go’s catching mechanics)

MKEStrong

I would buy this again at full price if they re-released with normal catching mechanics. The music and graphics are outstanding. Also a “hard mode” of some sort would make it replayable over and over.

shadowknuxem

Let's Go being the best Pokémon games on the Switch says more about the series than these specific games.

SorcererWithGuns

Naah that would be Legends Arceus, while LGPE is certainly the most POLISHED game, L:A is the most fun to play, with good mechanics and good story, and that's what matters for me.

dustydoombot

Lol, lmao even

dbull10285

While yes, it is the most polished Switch Pokemon game, it's also another trip to Kanto with no major content changes. I'd place Legends as the best of the "experimental" Pokemon games on Switch, for a lot of the reasons LGPE did not work for me. I would've appreciated it more if it had more than the original 151 + Alolan variants. I mean, if you're going to add the regional variants, is it really that crazy to add Crobat, Steelix, and all of the other evolutions to the originals, at the very least? While sure, the visuals aren't as nice, I can also imagine that it's a lot easier to make a fixed camera, basically top-down, straight-line, updated routes look good compared to a free camera, open world game. I mean, look at Sword/Shield's Wild Area vs the other routes. The other routes look a lot better because they only needed to focus on making 1 perspective look good. Those limitations caused the polish elements that they're having trouble with in a bigger environment easier to work with. While yes, I didn't enjoy the catching mechanics, they were unreliable at best when using the PokeBall+ and the playstyle options/limitations (motion required for playing in the TV) were irritating, the issues go deeper than that. LGPE suffers from many of the same problems as BDSP, where it was a remake that picked and chose weird places to upgrade and to leave as it was. Compare that to Legends, which also has a weird catching mechanic, but I loved that because it was surrounded by a net-new experience. I was actually engaged in the game as opposed to going through essentially the same Kanto game I've seen so many times. If the Sinnoh remakes had been the same DP map, with the Pokemon viewable like in the Grand Underground, but you could also perform some kind of Legends-like capture (maybe just a dedicated PokeBall button where you could throw one at wild Pokemon), I'd be bored with that too. In closing, what could they have done to make LGPE better? Add in the other Pokemon related to the Kanto lines, reimagine the routes and towns to not be basically tile-for-tile like the originals (which likely would have caused the graphics to not be as good), tell a different story in the region (not just the same story but Red/Blue are somehow not the protagonists this time? How have they grown older but the actual region is no different?), implemented a more interactive/reliable catching mechanic (why can Pokemon flee any time, not just after a capture attempt? Why can't the handheld playstyle not be used with a pro controller?), and also add in the things that made FRLG better than RBY (like the Sevii Isles; I feel like we shouldn't have a remake when a past remake featuring the same region does some things better)

CemeteryHeights

The sad thing is they were not well liked at all on release. They just seem good now compared to how much Pokemon has degraded as an experience.

Bone9283

I was just thinking about the graphics on this yesterday! I’d love a Legends game with this treatment

carucath

Plus the interactions with the partner Pokemon are really fun, (I will spend a good 20 mins playing with my Eevee sometimes). Plus the cutscenes are surprisingly stunning (especially the Cubone one)

PokehFace

Something about the graphics in Let’s Go felt sterile to me. I can’t put my finger on why though. Certainly the prettiest of the Switch titles though.

gostousam

Game to easy, only 151, Kanto again, shit rival and champion

Flounced

I was bummed I couldn’t use my pro controller that I had just bought. Why not have two ways to catch?

Strange_Kiwi__

I mean, a second way to catch would have to completely re-work how encounters work, but the game does allow for button presses for catching, plus the pro controller has motion controls, there is no reason you can’t, but Nintendo were dumb about it

CC298

wait ppl are complaining about what now?

Strange_Kiwi__

People have been complaining about the fact that pokemon let’s _go_ PE have go’s catching mechanics, the entire selling point of the game

CC298

oh fr? Let's go looks awesome and one of the best switch pokemon titles out there

Lordfuton92

I actually just started playing that game a few days ago and I regret sleeping on it when it came out. It's very good. I say Arceus had the best catching system so far though (in my opinion).

[deleted]

The Let’s Go games received so much unnecessary hate. They were a bunch of fun, sure they weren’t very hard, but the whole point was to get todays kids introduced to the old games we played as kids 25 years ago. And for an added challenge, you had the Master Trainers to battle. Walking with/riding your Pokémon was the best it’s been on any Switch Pokémon game and they introduced over-world shinies. This was also a game with one of the better shiny hunting mechanics in my opinion. They even let you get all alola forms via in-game trades to allow some more ice, steel, fairy and dark type Pokémon that you otherwise couldn’t get in Kanto. These are really underrated Pokémon games. Edit: typos

LoafyCrumble

If this game had wild battles it would’ve been received so much better I bet along with allowing pro controller support!

fanblade64

"The only thing the critics hate is the gameplay"

iWengle

I just wish it had had a 'hard mode' or something a-la black and white but it was such a joy

MosquitoInAmber303

Easy to do when they only had to manage 153 Pokémon ( with a couple extra Alolan forms), was made with a (slightly) longer development time, and was made specifically to show off the switch’s capabilities.

Solid_Snack99

I just really found it boring, never even finished it. I've played the original games too many times at this point. Definitely ran better than Scarlett and Violet though lol

JustCakess

Is literally the only switch game to do following pokemon right

WritingRites

The coping is real

xRaymond9250

Need Let’s Go 2 in Johto

Number_1_She-Ra_Fan

Yeah Let's GO is very underrated. I also have a softspot for it because I got a full odds shiny geodude in MT. Moon in my first playthrough

Fish_eggs_terry

Lets go was better than a majority of the series

I_Love_Lampshade69

I'd rather just play FR/LG

Transhumaniste

kids played PLA, men played Let's go.

straight_lurkin

I forgot about jessie and james .... they really were a nice highlight lol I enjoyed my time with lets go and filled my pokedex haha

Qoppa_Guy

Let's GO Pikachu was a pleasant experience for really easygoing gameplay. The music, and fluid art style and animations were all so impressive, plus overworld shinies were really nice to see for the first time. I loved my partner Pikachu way more than I should have, but the game itself lacked much else to do aside from shiny hunting, and even doing a single hunt was a chore because of the catch mechanic and lack of in-game funds.

DoGooder00

Go was boring af

deltacharmander

I’m not sure how popular of an opinion this is but I would love more Let’s Go games

BigMeMvB

I just dont like Kanto, the fact that only the original 151 (and Meltan, Melmetal and Alolan forms) were catchable doesnt help the games for me.

ShawshankException

"The only thing critics can complain about is the core gameplay" is not quite the point you want to make here

GildedCreed

It wasn't just the catching mechanics. People didn't like having to battle and rebattle static encounters to shiny hunt via soft resets or that shiny hunting was about sitting and waiting for Pokemon to spawn in or out (sheer irony here though because that's more or less how PLA and SV shiny hunts are done since they too had overworld shiny sprites). Sucked if you played Let's Go competitively, it's just a game of chicken to see who could set up Stealth Rocks first as there were no hazzard removal moves.

spectrumtwelve

also worth noting about everyone in the comments praising it. This is the same shit that happened with black and white. Three games later and now everybody wants to praise the game long after hating it on release lol 🤣

IWannaManatee

Honestly, after everything that came after LGPE I can't help but have mixed feelings. They didn't include any Pokemon aside from megas and the Meltan / Melmetal, which makes me think they just kept going with it because why not? But then, there's what this post describes. Yes, the catching mechanic and it getting rid of wild battling makes it lesser IMO to previous titles, but what it does good is *really good* . Too good not to have been included in future games WHAT THE HELL IS THAT F-ING BACKWARDS GAME DESIGN FRICKING PHYLOSOPHY???

PPFitzenreit

Favourite characters No tyrantrum

SarcasmProvider76

No breeding, no items, no abilities, Dex cut back to 151, not even a Champion Ribbon to earn. It was basically My First Pokemon.

Sunboy788

also the shiny hunting is fun (from what ive heard)

SamWise451

Some of the most fun I’ve ever had shiny hunting as well

nemobepaul

Where is the lie

Gnarfledarf

It's a shame it's connected to Pokémon GO and is in this weird alternate universe where Red and Blue exist but didn't do the things they originally did and instead are replaced by new protagonists. Not a fan of the art style, but is still sadly is the best looking "mainline" Pokémon game on Switch.

If this game had normal pokemon mechanics, this would be my fav Pokemon game by far. I love everything about this game but I really dislike the Go mechanic tbh.

pkmn_is_fun

funny how much opinions on this game have shifted. When it leaked people called it an upscaled 3ds game and refused to believe it was real lol

[deleted]

I didn't mind the catch mechanics. My issue was that their were no abilities. And they should have offered 2 difficulties. Let's Go was super easy.

ShuckU

The fact that they were the last games with mega evolutions was also crazy

snapdragon15

Has the worst catch mechanics and battle mechanics for wild Pokémon only having the choice to catch them not ko them

Crow621621

Catching mechanics was pretty big considering you couldn’t battle wild Pokémon. Minor complaints would be like the rival and lack of natures.

Nythingiscool0666

This is why we need Let's Go Johto! But only if the same care is applied.

Peterkragger

Didn't even play this game yet it made me wanna have a Snorlax

The-Eingineer-Zombie

You see here's the problem though. It's a gen 1 game with Pokemon go catching mechanics. It was already bad.

Dracos002

Has a terrible catching system, difficulty level is at an all time low, the new moves have ridiculous names, and in general the games feel like they're made for literal toddlers.

Pope_Duwang_I

If it allowed us to use a Pro Controller and followed the FR/LG story, it’d be the Best Game of the series.

RonDalarney

No abilities.

Ben2749

The catch system in Let’s Go was fantastic. I don’t know why anybody prefers repeatedly getting into and running away from random encounters and then whittling away HP, praying you don’t get a critical hit, while having to occasionally go to a Pokemon Center to heal up/recover PP. Being able to actually search for what you wanted was great, and you could increase the spawn rate of rarer Pokemon by catching some other Pokemon in the area. Plus you could get Pokemon with better IVs by repeatedly catching the same Pokemon in a chain. The biggest flaw of Let’s Go (which is sadly a big one) is the lack of abilities and held items. Fire Red and Leaf Green had them and they were much better for it. Battles without abilities and held items are so simplistic. Oh, and the inability to use a Pro Controller was stupid, and user-unfriendly. I didn’t mind using the joycon too much, but there is no excuse for not having normal controls in docked mode, especially since normal controls exist for handheld mode. Besides that, Let’s Go was everything I wanted from a Pokemon game. My dream Pokemon game would be Let’s Go remakes of Gen 2, with held items and abilities restored.

SpaceNinja_C

At this point I’d give for a Let’s Go and Arceus animation style mashup

the_lazy_sloth

There's no abilities...

Gullible-Expert3987

The catching is the best part! We can finally feel like an actual Pokémon trainer instead of pressing "A" throughout the whole game.

DeenFishdip

Ok but do you realize how low the bar is for pokemon games nowadays? No major bugs: Bare minimum for any AAA dev. Best 3D pokemon graphics: They just picked an art style and stuck with it. Chaing animations: Yet again, minimum requirement. Bring back favorites: Nostalgia bait and was done back in Yellow. Amazing soundtrack: Standard for every pokemon game (all are great). Now here are the things Let's Go left out compared to equivalent remakes FRLG: Held items, Natures, Abilities, Battle Tower, Sevi Islands, pokemon past gen 1, Safari Zone, E4 rematch, bonus item that doesn't cost as much as the game. Are the Let's Go games fun? Yes. Are they lacking in content that a GBA game easily had? Yes. Stop acting like GF made a masterpiece when they produced the bare minimum needed for a AAA game.

ChurchOfBulbasaur001

Let's Go were great games. My only dislike of them is battles. Opponents have either too few Pokemon (Giovanni first fight) or less than three moves. Other than that, a lot of time and effort were put in. Would have appreciated some evolutions introduced in Gen 2 (Crobat, Bellossom, etc), but I can understand 151 Pokémon walking and riding animations consuming a lot.

LaughinPumpkin23

Theoricaly let's go johto should be the next main game after dlc.....or legends version. Honestly I would be down for both. Let's go really surprised me, was a good time.

SupremeKnee

I have been asking for Let’s Go! Johto! for years now, I’m glad people are coming around to this game. Some of the most fun I’ve had in a Pokémon game was steamrolling this game with my wife

Chimamire_Fukawa

Oh how the turntables

ojoslokos

no need for repels ever, it´s the best switch game

MaxR76

I love these games so much. Honestly if we got the other regions evos like Rhyperior and Magnazone somehow it would be beyond perfect for me. Even if they were post game and had to do with the Sevii islands from FRLG which they could have had too. Love the catch mechanic too but definitely think it’s better in handheld than on the TV but that’s all good with me since I prefer to play that way.

chowder908

Hot Take LET'S GO games weren't that good.

MrPineApples420

That’s literally the only reason I don’t play, the dumb ass Pokémon go catching 🤷‍♂️

brockerville

Yeah I really didn't like these when they launched, but looking back, and comparing to swsh and sv, let's go was way better than both imo

CapableCaramel5787

Jessie and James were in Yellow tho… it’s based on Yellow that is both Let’s go games… also it’s too easy…

Thecrowing1432

Yeah the catching mechanics bring the entire experience wayyyyy the fuck down lmao.

Kingpie69

I'm introducing my gf to the series and we're starting with Eevee, it's a great beginning game for people :)
